Laura Branigan - Did Madonna steal her career?

If not, which bitch did?

Because that's your DL shit-for-brains logic. Janet? Cyndi? Kylie?

Madonna stole the career of every white female singer better than her since 1985.

Nah, she and Madonna occupied separate spheres. The quality of the songs she was offered had dipped by the 90's, but if she hadn't died so young she might have come back with an album of covers.

I miss her fabulous voice. Her hits have held up very well.

The quality of music went down across the board, R2. Madge merely accelerated this state of affairs.

by Anonymousreply 3December 31, 2017 7:29 PM

Laura had both a far greater voice tan and a far more pathetic stage appearance/manner than Madge. She was a singer and Madge was THE star. I highly doubt that one affected the other in any notable manner.

That person who had two hits stole her career. I forget her name.

by Anonymousreply 5December 31, 2017 7:39 PM

Yeah, R5 that's the bitch. And Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 6December 31, 2017 7:42 PM

Did she take her self-control as well?

by Anonymousreply 7December 31, 2017 8:13 PM

No. Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, and Pat Benatar stole her career.

by Anonymousreply 8December 31, 2017 11:15 PM

Taylor Dayne did!

The material wasn’t there for Laura Branigan.

Melissa Manchester had better material—but didn’t extend past the 1980s.

I think some of this has to do with chooses our stars. That it is more manipulated and controlled than we realize.

Madonna’s staying power is much due to her being a spectacle. Her career isn’t her music. Her career is her. Madonna.

Madonna stole Blondie's career. Branigan was a differrent genre.

by Anonymousreply 11December 31, 2017 11:55 PM

Do you mean Debbie Harry? She was around for quite some time before Madonna strolled into the limelight.

by Anonymousreply 12December 31, 2017 11:58 PM

Laura Branigan was my first concert.

by Anonymousreply 13January 1, 2018 12:01 AM

Did you have a good time, R13?

by Anonymousreply 14January 1, 2018 12:17 AM

Laura Branigan was awesome in concert. She didn't need spectacle--the voice!

by Anonymousreply 15January 3, 2018 2:01 AM

R13, she was my first concert, too! 1984. I was 13.

by Anonymousreply 16January 3, 2018 2:12 AM

R11, Blondie is a group!

by Anonymousreply 17January 3, 2018 2:16 AM

Copycat!

by Anonymousreply 18January 3, 2018 2:18 AM

Laura had an Irene Cara kind of career and Taylor Dayne and Jody Watley took their spots for the second half of the 80s.

by Anonymousreply 19January 3, 2018 2:21 AM

There was no real career to steal. Both of her big hits were covers of hits which had already blown up in Italy and in Europe.

by Anonymousreply 20January 3, 2018 2:29 AM

No , Madonna was better
