Tai & Corey: Black Gay Power Couple

Does anyone watch and follow them? Do you know who they are?

They have been together for 10 years and married for 9. They met when they were 23 or 24 and are now 33 or 34. Both come from VERY, VERY, religious backgrounds and are gay and married... at a time when it wasn't popular at all for two Black men to be together, let alone married . LOL! What has really changed? Now, how odd are they?

Tai, (the smaller one), is a hairstylist, makeup artist, and owns his own salon. Corey,(the larger one), is a singer songwriter. Tai started his YouTube channel to make some extra income, to give them both more exposure, and to be an example for other Black gay married couples. We always see the White married, and/or interracial gay couples, but rarely do we see the minority married gay couples. More! More! More, diversity!

They're just an average young couple trying to make their way in life BUT they come from very religious backgrounds and are BLACK, GAY, MARRIED, and PROUD!!!! The YT channel started as simple recap of reality shows and current events but now they are revealing more of themselves and their life together.

What do you think of them?

@R5; How many married gay couples do you know? How many Black married gay couples do you know? These are two men, two Black men, who have chosen to unite as one and build a life together. Taking into account how conservative the Black community generally is they are exceptions. Tai, even tells the story about how he hasn't spoken to his grandmother in 10 years because she has disowned him because of his lifestyle versus her religious convictions. That's very tough especially since the Black community is generally very family oriented.

[quote]In what way does this constitute a "power couple"?

They were one of the first, if not the first, gay married Black couples on YouTube. I guess people thought of them as a power couple because they seemed to have everything a middle class black couple would want. They were married--not living together. Tai had his own successful business--Tai was a hairstylist with his own business and Corey was a singer. They had a beautiful apartment. They owned a Jaguar and/or a Mercedes Benz.... They just came across as a nice gay couple.

But, there were problems. Although Corey and Tai married for 10 years, they were sexually incompatible. Tai was verse (but more of a bottom) and Corey was 100% a bottom. Corey resented Tai and his "success." Corey struggled with building a music career and Tai always had money coming in--even though he was very supportive of Corey.

They divorced because of Corey's cheating and Tai met a guy who was stalking them (following their YouTube page) and made a play for Tai. Tai thought that this guy Mike Heard was the one. A man that would love him and take care of him. But, he quickly discovered, (after closing his salon in NJ and moving to Atlanta) that Mike was simply a user. But, he still tried to make a go of the relationship. They were together for about a year. Tai then again sold everything and moved back to NJ about a year ago but dropped off of the YouTube map about 7 or 8 months ago. A lot of people were wondering about what happened to him because he talked openly about his struggles with depression. And now, he's dead. He apparently killed himself yesterday.

I did notice his absence on Youtube these last few months...its so sad that he was struggling mentally. Apparently he didn't have a good support system to hold him up, despite being so well liked. This is one is going to send shockwaves through the community

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 37November 3, 2019 3:17 PM

You’re vile r37

by Anonymousreply 38November 3, 2019 3:32 PM

Actually R37 brings up a valid point which has been largely ignored. That is Tai in the amateur porn video. It caused quite a scandal at the time.

Tai made amateur porn movies, solos, and, at least one or possibly two scenes for Rawrods, Thugboy or Cocoboyz, the studios owned by Flavaworks. It’s foolish to pretend it doesn’t exist and wasn’t part of his biography and personality.

It’s very obvious that Tai, like many others who perform in porn, had many mental health issues, you can tell just listening to some of his videos or reading some tweets. I don’t know were Corey and Tai ever a “happy” couple, at least in a traditional sense. Was Corey happy that Tai was performing in scenes and constantly talking about sex and seeking hookups on Twitter? I don’t know. But I do know it’s disingenuous to hold Tai up as a role model. He was good looking, very nice body, very sexual, and, an excellent stylist. But he was also very, very troubled. I wish Tai eternal peace and comfort.

by Anonymousreply 40November 3, 2019 4:54 PM

I hope this makes sense, but a part of me still believes that Tai never wanted to kill himself. He was more of a drama queen, to me. A lot of his actions and reactions seemed as if they were written for some kind of bad made for television movie. He just seemed to have this never dying thirst for attention and when he didn't get it he would throw a tantrum like a child. Maybe that's part of the mental illness.

Anyway, I just always had the impression that he wanted to be a star. A superstar! He wanted the adoration of a celebrity.

Well I dont think we are necessarily holding him up as a role model. He was likable on Youtube, that's really all. I won't judge him for doing porn, it is what it is. He was in a sexually incompatible marriage for that long, no wonder he turned into a wild whore.

Not just gay men. I've seen so many of these black wannabe "Wendy Williams" talk show hosts pop out of nowhere on YouTube. These people all want to be famous and have no talent. Sometimes access to technology just isn't a good thing. I think that is why YouTube changed its monetizing rules because so much garbage was just being uploaded. Now, many of these worthless wannabes (they would be more productive if they just got a job) are begging people to sign up for Patreon or begging for money through a cashapp

Well, you go to the gym for a reason and that primary reason isn't necessarily for health. Tai liked the attention that his body brought him. The same with doing porn. It brought him attention. That clip at R40 is pretty hot.

[quote]Now, many of these worthless wannabes (they would be more productive if they just got a job) are begging people to sign up for Patreon or begging for money through a cashapp

Yeah but these are same methods Instahoes use to pay their bills. If the person doing this is hot, masculine , showing dick/ass then people don't care if they use Onlyfans, Patreon etc and they are praised for making content available. But let some queen do it and they are a worthless wannabe.

by Anonymousreply 51November 5, 2019 2:19 AM

[quote]But let some queen do it and they are a worthless wannabe.

And, most of them are. I wouldn't include Tai in that though. I may not have fully liked his content--he did a lot of reality show reviews interspersed with other subjects, but he was pretty creative and had an entertaining personality. I'm a YouTube junkie. Between that, my regular work, DL, and avoidance of the gym, I don't watch any regular television. But, I'm always looking at YouTube content (especially content by gay black men) from a creative, marketing, and a "feasibility to grow into something bigger", type of eye and perspective. You have to start somewhere! I believe that today's technology really offers the opportunity for a nobody to become somebody quite easily, (as you pointed out, R51), and break into the greater mainstream. It's happened for a few white content providers. So, why can't it happen for a gay black man? I believe that today's technology offers a chance to build a body of work in writing, acting, editing, etc. Hopefully, it's good enough that maybe someone mainstream will take a quick look at it and just maybe... just maybe... something can develop from it. I know it's naive but that's how I view it.

Anyway, what I have noticed lately (and have let go) is that a lot of black YouTube providers are doing nothing but the reality show junk model. "Friends, argument, argument, friends," repeat. Bottom line; I'm just seeing a bunch of black church queens going after each others throats and they are starving for content because it seems as if that's the only model that they know. They are only concerned about subscribers and views. Worthless.

Again, I wouldn't put Tai in that group. That brother was a hustler! He had a lot of ideas of which he made happen. He was a well-recognized hairstylist. He owned a beautiful and what looked like a successful salon. He launched an underwear line. Porn. He developed a good YouTube following as a vlogger and more. It's tragic that he was in such a state that he felt that he had to take his own life. Such a talent that is lost.

Most Youtubers only care about subs, because they are just doing it for the extra money. They usually don't try to make their sole living off YT. They couldn't make money if there wasnt a demand for it.

Its interesting though, white people like Davey Wavey have channels about anything and they become successful online. But when we get online with our stuff we are the first ones to cut each other down. Khia and TS Madison, perfect example.

[quote]Most Youtubers only care about subs, because they are just doing it for the extra money. They usually don't try to make their sole living off YT.

That's NOT what I'm seeing. You have some of these fools calling themselves journalists and what they do "their" job. I shall name no names.... In my opinion, it's a terrible reflection upon black people and our tastes if everyone think that this is the demand and the only type of content that we want to see.

[quote]white people like Davey Wavey have channels about anything and they become successful online.

I haven't watched anything of his in years but he had direction. Gay content and gay topics. But, then he went in to various offshoots (like fitness, etc) and it all became too confusing for me and I'm not interested and/or vested enough to try and figure it out.

[quote]Khia and TS Madison, perfect example.

Popular YouTuber Tai Couture Dies Following Battle With Depression

The YouTuber had previously attempted to take his life and was open with his battle with depression.-- by Amaya Woodley| November 05 2019, 09:33 am

YouTube personality Tai Couture passed away Thursday after taking his own life.

Couture, whose real name was Tyree Williams, was also known for his work as a hairstylist and makeup artist, according to a GoFundMe created in his honor.

The YouTuber, who was openly gay, shared his battle with depression most recently in a Facebook post after the suicide of Nigel Shelby.

“My heart mourns for the pain, torment, and loneliness this baby felt preceding his suicide. My suicide attempt was only a little over a year ago when I cut my wrist with a knife and was hospitalized. Although bullying wasn’t my trigger I know firsthand how it feels to be desperate for the hurt to end. I pray for Nigel’s family, friends, and the LGBTQ community. May the world continue to spread more unconditional love and not hate,” the post read.

Shelby, a ninth-grader, took his life back in April after he was bullied for being gay.

Although in Couture's Facebook post he denied bullying as a trigger for his own depression, it's unclear what events may have led to his death.

In a video back in 2016, the YouTuber shared his journey with depression after a near-fatal car crash.

According to Instinct Magazine, Couture had previously attempted suicide.

His family has created a GoFundMe to help with the costs of his homegoing.

Some of his fans and fellow YouTubers shared their condolences on Twitter.

His funeral will be Saturday, November 9 at the Tabernacle of Faith COGIC in Camden, New Jersey.

The family is requesting that everyone wears all white.

If you or someone you know is coping with depression, visit HalfOfUs.com for additional resources.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to share time and space with this extraordinary human. You helped me & challenged me on so many levels, I’m grateful. I never knew what it meant to be my most authentic self and not care people say or think, until I met you. In the 8 1/2 months we were together, I saw you touched the 🌍. You are a genius when it comes to media, entertainment and building your brand. Only a few of us who were blessed to share sacred times with you know the pain you suffered and your personal challenges. The last day we spoke was August 15th 2018 and I promised you that day I would always love you, have your back, love your mom & protect your secrets, and none of that will change. You were always full of encouragement and support. You believed in people. You were a giving person and you spoke your truth. There will never be another like you. And although we never got the chance to have that conversation to heal us, I pray that you will find the PEACE that you have been searching for since you were a little boy. Rest Well Bishop🖤

by Anonymousreply 90November 7, 2019 6:49 PM

I wonder if Tai got caught up with some new trade when he moved back to New Jersey.

by Anonymousreply 91November 7, 2019 6:51 PM

In just quickly scanning some of the comments on social media both Corey and Mike are being shredded into filth by "the people." This is not a good thing, in my opinion. Tai had mental issues going on long before meeting either of them. Too many people are just too involved with social media, (as I post on this thread and look at other social media while I "work"), and need to step away from this because none of us know the complete history. Here's some things that I picked up;

-Tai was reared in the COGIC religious sect (that's the problem right there, in my opinion) and was very religious himself. He was VERY active in the church. Therefore, there was always that conflict of being gay versus his Pentecostal upbringing.

-His grandmother was/is extremely religious and even disowned him for quite some time because he was gay.

-He ADORES(D) his grandfather AKA "Pop-Pop"

-He is the first born and his mother had him at a very young age (I don't know the age) and they were more like brother and sister because they were so close.

-He was commuting between NJ and Atlanta for a spell before he decoded to close his salon and move to Atlanta.

-When things did not work out with Mike he sold everything and moved back to NJ.

That's as much of the back story that I could pick up

What was there to sell? Wasn't he only with Mike a relatively short time? Did he set up another salon in Atlanta?

I presume he did Drag Race recaps - or maybe the Sepulveda Bachelor - because I watched some of his recaps. Any charm Tai had quickly dissipated. If Corey pointed out an error, Tai would switch up and get snappy. He seems to be the classic "Big Ego, Low Self Esteem." Many of his tweets are nauseating. His suicide is very sad, of course. But I can see how one could easily withdraw sympathy when having to deal with him on a daily/regular basis.

Well I enjoyed his interviews with the cast of Chasing Atlanta and other characters of gay ATL. He was good at hosting and interviewing because he doesn't come off with an attitude or judgement.

His Model Mayhem Bio:

TYREE “TAI THE UNIVERSAL STYLIST” WILLIAMS-KELLY

It is no surprise that nationally known, Philadelphia area salon owner, Tyree Williams-Kelly is one of the most sought after celebrity stylist in the industry today. His client list includes star personalities such as, fashion and celebrity stylist Alisa Maria, Real Housewives of Atlanta star and supermodel Cynthia Bailey, Kelly Price, Donna Richardson-Joyner, Twinkie Clark, Lexi, Dr. Traci Lynn Burton, Seattle news anchor Angela Russell, members of Sony Gospel artist Tye Tribbett & GA, various NFL wives, his pastor, Apostle Saundra L. Hagans, and many more. At just 30 years old, Tyree’s unmistakable style, class, and sophistication rivals top professionals twice his age. Not only does he craft with style, flair and effortless ability, he is a total trendsetting package. He consistently showcases his multifaceted talent and versatility which is why he is called “The Universal Stylist.”

Tyree’s interest in hair began at the age of nine when he would accompany his Grandmother to the hair salon in Philadelphia, where they would both receive hair services. He would watch intently as the stylist would style his Grandmother’s and other client’s hair. It wasn’t long before Tyree convinced his Mother, Grandmother, and Aunts to let him experiment with their hair. Those experiments eventually resulted in viable, creative, and/or original styles that not only continued to keep his family returning, but also piqued the interest of others in his natural, raw talent and ability.

By the age of twelve, Tyree’s steady clientele of family and friends began to increase. It was amazing to others how this young man could make hair move and contour the way he wanted it to. Over time, He had developed and stored a very wide range of styles in his hair closet: up-do’s, press & curls, and wet sets were just some of the services he would provide. However, it was Tyree’s eye for creativity which set him apart.

Upon graduating from Camden County Technical School in 2003, Tyree eagerly enrolled in Rizzieri Schools for Beauty and Wellness from which he earned his cosmetology license. He has been involved in cosmetology for eighteen years, barbering for five years, and make up artistry for five years. His clientele spans across the United States.

Tyree was also a featured stylist on the hit BETJ (now Centric) reality TV show “Tears, Shears, and Beauty.” He is the founder and CEO of Universal Stylist Inc., and the current President of the Hair Oscars Association. He also devotes many hours to educating young stylists, and is a supporter of many Cancer and HIV/AIDS foundations.

In 2011, Tyree became the proprietor and senior stylist of his first salon, Tai Couture Salon located in Pennsauken NJ. In 2012, Tyree launched his virgin hair lines Red Velvet Hair and InstaGlam Hair. In 2013, Tyree launched his trendy and affordable online fashion boutique, TaiCoutureBoutique(dot)com. In 2014, Tyree launched his sexy and stylish men’s underwear boutique, TaiCoutureFetish(dot)com.

Tyree is looking forward to many more years in the cosmetology field. He is paving the way for his legacy, which is to edify and uplift people through hair, fashion, beauty, and philanthropy. His goal is to help people realize their true potential with love, care, kindness and hospitality. Find Tai, The Universal Stylist at: www(dot)UniversalStylist(dot)com

That "just 30 years old" is very AbFab/HELLO ("It's hard to believe Patsy is just...").

So did he ever have any "connection" to Miss Tyler Perry when he was in Atlanta?

by Anonymousreply 100November 7, 2019 8:42 PM

Apparently Tyler doesn't mix with the hoi polloi of Atlanta any more.

[quote]So did he ever have any "connection" to Miss Tyler Perry when he was in Atlanta?

Tyler is too big for most of those people in Atlanta. He interacts with those that can hold their own just as what others would do at various other economic levels. Tai's Atlanta loft was so well appointed because he shipped most of the furniture that he had already owned with Corey in NJ down to Atlanta. That had to cost a good piece of money. The arrangement was for Mike to pay the rent and Tai would take care of everything else. Tai wanted to be taken care of. But, if I remember correctly (there's a 4 hour video--yes, 4 hours) Mike couldn't even pay for one month of the rent. Tai had to help with that too. A lot of their issues were financial In the interim, Tai closed his salon in NJ. I don't think he was having financial difficulties with it. I don't recall him ever complaining about that and planned on opening up a salon in Atlanta. But, (according to him), he realized early on that he had made a BIG mistake with Mike and so he started looking for an exit strategy.

I figured he might've worked at Tyler's studios doing hair.

by Anonymousreply 104November 7, 2019 11:21 PM

Hmm... That's a good idea, R104. He had enough creds that he probably could have gotten something. But, in my opinion he was just interested in becoming the housewife, so to speak. He thought he had found someone who would fuck him twice a day and take care of him. It was Mike. That whole situation could not have been good for his mental state.

[quote]Something tells me Tai paid for everything with Corey.

He did. Corey eventually worked in Tai's salon.

Ans, escorts too. Think of M2 like an upscaled Craig's List. One might get lucky with legitimate offers.

Tai thought he could be taken care of by a "life coach"? Did Tai abuse drugs?

by Anonymousreply 106November 7, 2019 11:39 PM

shit...Im going to start doing some hair on the side too. People can judge other parts of his life, but not his coin. He stayed getting those bags!

Tyree’s Mom Addresses Unanswered Questions/Assumptions

My Aunt Nikki and I wanted to put out a video addressing all the comments made during the announcement of Tyree's death.

Like my aunt said, she will be going to get help at a 30-day facility so once she's completed her treatment, arrangements for shirts and eulogy programs will be addressed. Thank you.
