His latest “hilarious” project is to provide commentary of the Rose Parade in character as a guy named Cord. Somehow he got Molly Shannon involved.
Improv is tough because you have to be quick AND funny.

I never found him funny.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 27, 2017 10:21 PM |
What R1 said.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 27, 2017 10:22 PM |
I also never thought he was funny
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 27, 2017 10:23 PM |
This is so stupid.
Someone talked Jimmy Kimmel to interview these two in character. Jimmy is on ABC and this Rose Parade thing is on Amazon so you can’t blame it on inter-network promotion.
Is anything in this clip even slightly humorous?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 27, 2017 10:23 PM |
Blades of Glory was 10 years ago,
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 27, 2017 10:24 PM |
I know, R6. Before then, he barely made me laugh in anything. Even in 2006's otherwise charming [italic]Curious George[/italic] movie, his role as The Man in the Yellow Hat could have been played by anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 27, 2017 10:26 PM |
That costume makes him look old. He's a one trick pony but he has funny moments. Just like a lot of the SNL comedians (Sandler, Farley, Jones, Morgan, Spade, Carvey, the list goes on).
I can't imagine the audience for this but who knows?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 27, 2017 10:30 PM |
At least he's still creating, and not riding on fumes like Adam Sandler and other SNL alums.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 27, 2017 10:37 PM |
I agree that it is admirable that WF is doing different things. He did that Spanish language movie and that Lifetime movie with Kristin Wiig which were both unpredictable and unexpected.
But it’s all just so unfunny.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 27, 2017 10:43 PM |
Adam Sandler, dont' even start
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 27, 2017 10:45 PM |
R10: The concepts are funny. The execution rarely so. His timing is so amateurish and his manner is as smug as every other mainstream SNL-alum comedian or comic actor out there. You can feel sorry for the women who had to rise above all that douchebaggy shit, but up to the 2000s SNL had always been a boys club and he was the last to come out of that era before it changed.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 27, 2017 10:47 PM |
Will’s character is wearing a bald cap because in 2018, nothing is funnier than a bald guy.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 27, 2017 10:47 PM |
This is the comedy bit that Will did in his SNL audition that apparently landed him the job. It’s called “Get Off The Shed.”
To me, this is all that he’s capable of from a comedy perspective. This is not very funny but it’s the funniest character that he can do.
One note comedian. I’m sure he’ll get a Mark Twain prize for comedy in the next few years.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 27, 2017 10:52 PM |
I loved the cheerleading skits with Sheri Oteri!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 27, 2017 10:55 PM |
Wow, I didn't know "Get Off the Shed" was what he auditioned with. The sad thing is, they brought it back *twice* more, once at the end of the season with Christine Baranski, then three years later with Sarah Michelle Geller.
If I had to pick a personal least-favorite recurring character of his/that period, it'd be the drunken businessmen trading stories about BILL BRASKY!
That said, Will gave a surprisingly moving performance in The Spoils Before Dying, particularly when Eric Jonrosh pretty much stopped being a character and instead straight up Orson Welles. I guess Will could relate to the idea of passing your prime.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 27, 2017 10:56 PM |
He was moving enough in his drama "Stranger than Fiction". Good direector and costars (Emily Watson, Mags Gyllenhaal)? Like everyone upthread, I find his comedy tryhard and unfunny. Ok, he was fine impersonating W Bush in a skit.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 27, 2017 11:00 PM |
Very overrated. His George W Bush was right out of community theater.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 27, 2017 11:00 PM |
I've never thought he was funny. I DO like Molly Shannon, though (usually).
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 27, 2017 11:06 PM |
That Dubya impression was pretty overrated, too. It made things awkward when he left in 2002 and you had six years of middling to not even trying takes (Parnell, Hammond, Forte) on the role.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 27, 2017 11:06 PM |
Forgot Jason Sudekis played George at the end.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 27, 2017 11:08 PM |
Appallingly unfunny guy. You can add Steve Carell, Chevy Chase, Jack Back and Seth Rogan to the list.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 27, 2017 11:08 PM |
He has his moments, but I think most of the time he's carried by more talented co-stars, acting wise.
He's supposed to be very smart and great to work with. I also appreciate the fact that he takes some creative risks, even if they don't always work.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 27, 2017 11:09 PM |
I forgot about his George W Bush show on Broadway.
Another interesting, unexpected project that was probably painfully unfunny.
Did anyone here see it?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 27, 2017 11:11 PM |
Here he is explaining why Get Off the Shed is funny
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 27, 2017 11:14 PM |
If you have to explain why something is funny, then you've already lost the argument.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 27, 2017 11:18 PM |
I think straight people find him funny. Right?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 27, 2017 11:28 PM |
Here’s Get of the Shed but this time it’s in an office and includes Pierce Brosnan
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 30, 2017 3:25 AM |
I laughed at a lot of his stuff...not lately.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 30, 2017 3:26 AM |
Straight guys think hes hilarious,I never got the appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 30, 2017 3:36 AM |
He did seem to embody the dubious principle, "Yelling = funny."
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 30, 2017 3:43 AM |
I saw his show on Broadway and thought it was awful. Imagine an SNL skit drawn out for two hours; I want to say there was an intermission, which just made the damn thing feel even longer. He seemed so proud of his impersonation that he forgot to actually craft a script with any bit or insightful satire/parody.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 30, 2017 3:50 AM |
R27, wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 30, 2017 4:01 AM |
BDF, right?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 30, 2017 4:01 AM |
I must admit, I do find the first half of STEP BROTHERS really funny. It was playing on an airplane recently and I was giggling so much, I had to explain it to my seat mate.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 30, 2017 4:05 AM |
His Rose Bowl commentary is going to be a rip off of the Fred Willard dog show commentary from Best in Show
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 30, 2017 4:08 AM |
Will Ferrell. Recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center, Washington, DC., on Oct. 23, 2011.
Did you not know that, R14, or were you going for some bizarre sort of irony?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 30, 2017 4:15 AM |
"I like to kick, stretch, annnnnnnd kick. IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'm 50! Fifty years old."
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 30, 2017 4:18 AM |
Oh, and they gave it to Cosby two years earlier, so there you go. AND Leno.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 30, 2017 4:25 AM |
I never found him funny. Ever.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 30, 2017 4:27 AM |
Regardless if you think he's funny or not I think it's safe to say his career has stalled for the moment. He's definitely not as hot as he used to be.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 30, 2017 4:32 AM |
I always liked the cheerleader sketches, and still do.
I had little opinion, good or bad, otherwise...
Until he and Wiig did the Lifetime movie, playing it straight, and with a sense of honoring the absurdity of that idea. THAT is when I became a fan, because it's such a strange thing. I respect that he thinks in terms of expanding what comedy can be, and that's rare.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 30, 2017 4:47 AM |
R38, I always loved those Sally O'Malley sketches, but what makes me laugh now is that no 50 year old today would be caught dead with her general look and attitude. Somebody who's 70, maybe.
Speaking of that, Sally debuted 18 years ago!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 30, 2017 5:00 AM |
He's great, if you like aging frat boy humor.
His GWBush impersonation was garbage.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 30, 2017 5:32 AM |
*Still*?!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 30, 2017 6:10 AM |

No, the principle is "yelling = funny when Zero Mostel does it."
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 30, 2017 6:38 AM |
I agree about Stepbrothers being unexpectedly hilarious in parts. 'For a second there? I think you took on the shape of a unicorn.'
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 30, 2017 7:42 AM |
I was never a big fan, but I did like some of his SNL sketches, mainly for the other performers.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 30, 2017 8:13 AM |
R47 I agree about Stepbrothers being unexpectedly hilarious in parts. 'For a second there? I think you took on the shape of a unicorn.'
I'm relieved someone else here thinks it's funny, too!
Their dry parents crack me up, and this scene makes me laugh:

He’s super liberal and was an early Bernie supporter. After Hillary got the nomination he campaigned for her (take note Ms. Sarandon) at a N.C. State football game last fall, not a very receptive crowd for liberal ideas. He also refused to meet GWB back when he was imitating him because he disliked his politics so much.
Rumor is that he has purchased a large house on a lake in north Raleigh as most of his extended family lives in and around the Triangle area.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 30, 2017 10:48 AM |
Never found him to be funny. Actually, I feel embarrassed for him when I see him perform.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 30, 2017 10:53 AM |
Here’s Get Off the Shed but this time it’s in a suburban house and includes Gwynneth Paltrow
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 30, 2017 10:00 PM |
All he needs to do is team up with Adam Sandler in a movie then his career will chin deep in the shittter.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 30, 2017 10:07 PM |
Even Molly Shannon is one-cord funny. Her schtick is done.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | December 30, 2017 10:16 PM |
I love him and own all of his movies minus the Mark Wahlbergerson movies.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 30, 2017 10:26 PM |
R47, did we just become best friends? YUP.
Hey, I never asked you. Do you like guacamole?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 31, 2017 1:37 AM |
And yes, he's fantastic as Mugatu. Am I taking crazy pills?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 31, 2017 1:41 AM |
Not funny. Ever. Avoid like the plague.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 31, 2017 1:56 AM |
His trolling of the drummer from Red Hot Chili Peppers is funny and Pearl the Landlord. Oh and that video he did campaigning for Kerry as W.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 31, 2017 2:37 AM |
What R1 said, I've heard based on what I read here on DL that he's gay and closeted.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 31, 2017 2:38 AM |
Oh dear, he’s being aggressively unfunny again.
Is he paying for this himself? No one wants to see this because NO ONE CARES.
This guy needs a day job, leave show biz to the entertainers.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 2, 2018 12:08 AM |
I doubt even elementary/Jr HS kids find him to be funny.
On DL I read rumors about how he's gay and in a marriage of convenience, any truth to this?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 2, 2018 8:01 AM |
Just fix the thread title: ”Does Anyone Find Will Ferrell Funny?” It would’ve been a considerably shorter thread.
I think straight people find him funny. Right?
Uh, no...
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 2, 2018 8:26 AM |
Will Ferrell has a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Johnny Carson does not.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 4, 2018 3:20 AM |
R65 I wonder which male executive/producer Will Ferrell had to sleep with in order to get that?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 5, 2018 11:08 AM |
Oh God, this sketch with Sarah Michelle Gellar, when he screams I own the dodge stratus! It was funny. Also broken teleprompter. It was snl.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 19, 2018 2:54 PM |
Funny for TELEVISION. Most of his films, like many SNL alumni, are mediocre.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 19, 2018 2:59 PM |
I like Will and Molly but this wasn't funny.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 19, 2018 3:07 PM |
I have always found him off-putting for some reason.
I think "Land of the Lost" was a supremely unlikable movie in addition to being unfunny.
I tend to avoid films with him in them, so maybe I've missed out on some things.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | August 19, 2018 3:08 PM |
Never found him funny.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | August 19, 2018 3:20 PM |
He is annoying, and not funny at all. Never was, never will be.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | August 19, 2018 3:21 PM |
I never found him funny, ever.
