Do you know anyone who uses her products? Is she still alive?
And why did she pick Cher as a spokesperson, when Cher is notorious for wearing wigs?

In Living Color parody with Jim Carey as Lori and Alexandra Wentworth as Cher.

I liked the SNL version with Chris Farley as Lori.

Just getting ready to post that, R2. “No alcohol!”

All that stuff is shit. Every girl I know threw out bottles and bottles of Wen after they discovered it causes hair loss.

Those skits were cruel. Lori Davis never hurt anyone.

R5, see R4.

I’m sure she laughed all the way to the bank.

Blast from the past . Thank you . I loved that bitch.

r5=Lori Davis

r7 We've been over this before. The correct expression is "She CRIED all the way to the bank."

Lori posed for playboy in the mid 90s

I mean, seriously, the name alone was ridiculous. "Wen: An abnormal growth or a cyst protruding from a surface especially of the skin."
Disgusting.

Something similar happened to me when I sold Lady Contempo "cosmetics" that turned out to be household cleaning products.

Didn’t she choke on a ham sandwich in a London hotel after a performance at The Palladium?

I hate to tell you this, but WEN didn't go anywhere. It is still being sold and popular on QVC and Amazon. They just paid off the lawsuit and kept on. Apparently some doctor said that for some women it had so much moisture in it that it could loosen hair leading to hair loss and this might have been exacerbated by there being mint in all his products. I used it for years after reading about it right here on DL in a thread in which we were discussing doctors and hairstylists saying what really cleaned build up and dirt off hair was conditioner and shampoo stripped it so shampoo wasn't necessary for dry hair. People on here started mentioning WEN, because that is basically what it is - heavy duty conditioner. I used it for years and never had a problem, but right before the controversy started other companies started coming out with knock offs that were a lot cheaper. There are some women at work who still use it. But it is still popular online.

I had no idea Lori Davis was real. When I saw that In Living Color sketch when it originally aired, I just thought it was made up.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 21, 2017 9:12 PM |
Wen isn't the Lori Davis stuff. Two different product lines entirely.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 22, 2017 1:03 AM |
This is the greatest SNL skit of its era.
"I use it... but I hate it."

For years you could not find the actual "Focus on Beauty II" infomercial with Cher and Lori Davis on the web becase t was parodied (Cher said later it ended her film career)--but here it is.

I still can't believe TV stations would rather show that than old reruns, R20. Anything for a quick buck, I guess.

I remember laughing my head off at the 9:04 moment with the flame demonstration. Thanks, op, great memories.

I always had trouble believing that girl was really Cher’s best friend.

The part of me that never grew up and is still in junior high thinks Chris Farley dressed as a woman is comedy gold.

The image of her used on her website is a riot. This picture had to have been taken decades before she did the infomercial in 91-92. Or it's been photoshopped to hell and back.
And she touted herself as "hair doctor to the stars". The broad has 3, count 'em, 3 credits for show business work on her IMDb page.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 21, 2019 10:43 AM |
Why would imbd list her hair doctorate?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 21, 2019 10:49 AM |
Most people probably didn't know Cher wears wigs. Dolly Parton's been the only celeb who's been completely open about that. Stars can afford top-of-the-line, convincing wigs, and I don't think it's something most people think about.

She wasn't, Lori had worked for Cher and they were just friendly. But Cher says Lori kept hounding her to be in the informercials and she finally relented. Of course she regrets that now,
