John Cena is Perfection

Yummy. He should run for office. Unless hes a repug, then he will automatically lose. Even in Alamaba, the most conservative state in the union.

Can't wait for the trolls to try to act like AL is some liberal paradise. Like they tried to say about VA which had a republican majority in the state house...

He’s got a film coming out early next year that looks absolutely awful. Just like Dwayne Johnson. Shitty films.

by Anonymousreply 9December 13, 2017 5:16 PM

Shitty films are just a vehicle for great gifs like R8 posted. I would LOVE John Cena on the ballot. He's from my native New England too. But I just know he wouldn't want to alienate his fanbase. Professional wrestling is surprisingly trans partisan.

by Anonymousreply 10December 13, 2017 5:19 PM

He really seems like he's a great guy. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

by Anonymousreply 11December 13, 2017 5:22 PM

Doesn't he have a gay brother who he's been supportive to? Maybe [R10] can tell us? John definitely would keep you warm on a cold New England night...

by Anonymousreply 12December 13, 2017 5:23 PM

Yeah but his brother isn't much to look at

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 13December 13, 2017 5:28 PM

Yes, John Cena has been publicly very supportive of his gay brother. AND his brother's husband is black. And yea, he got kissed on the mouth by a guy on video and didn't flinch. Not many straight allies even would do that.

by Anonymousreply 14December 13, 2017 5:28 PM

[quote] . He should run for office.

Qualified people who actually know something about public policy and who have an interest in helping people should run for public office, not random celebs whom you find to be attractive.

by Anonymousreply 15December 13, 2017 5:35 PM

Disagree R15. Fouding Fathers were people from all kinds of different backgrounds and some had no governing experience before continental congress. We need people with government experience in office for sure but there is a lot of benefit from having people who come from completely different backgrounds as well. It makes the congress more representative of the country. And MANY prominent politicians today distinguished themselves from their peers only because they are attractive, look at Paul Ryan. How many people go through conservative think tanks like he did that could have run for office and have a better handle on policy. He ran because he is good looking.

by Anonymousreply 16December 13, 2017 5:42 PM

Keep in mind that our founding fathers gave us a system that made a Trump presidency possible. I didn't say that you need governing experience. I said that you need to have some public policy knowledge. You need to have some knowledge about the policies for which you will voting and how they will affect your constituents. Why? Because that's your job. We need a wealth of knowledge from diverse backgrounds. We need smart people who care about improving the lives of others. We don't need entertainers just because they're cute or non entertainers just because they're cute. We're talking about important positions and decision making that affects the lives of millions. It's not a joke. Despite the election of Trump.

1. Al Franken is not your average citizen. Al Franken has a BA from Harvard. He majored in guess what? Political Science.

2. Most newspapers are written on something like a 6 grade reading level. And most Americans don't read and can't read and comprehend that much.

3. To be effective, you need to be able to be knowledgeable about the issues and how they affect your constituents. And you also need to be able to write and understand the legislation.

1. Political Science is NOT the same as studying policy. Its the study of political movements and how they change over time. This is actually less relevant than many majors that would at least educate you on a sector you could focus on, like criminal justice let's say.

2. I don't think you are giving average American enough credit, I worked on Hillary's campaign and spoke with well over 1000 people (mostly in NH and NC) Upwards of 70% I spoke to cited some kind of issue they were passionate about and able to actually speak on. Whether it was banks, environmental regulations, or local issues.

3. Politicians almost never personally write legislation. Most don't have the legal background. There is staff to translate ideas to legal writing.

The most important trait in a politician is caring about constituents and being able to effectively advocate for them. Based on his charity work and ability to appeal to many groups, I think John meets that (admittedly very basic) test. Policy in any area can and will have to be learned. Even people coming in well versed in some areas will have a ton to learn on the job since the senate touches basically everything.

And it's important, in my humble opinion, not to lionize politicians or think their status or abilities aren't attainable by everyday people. Patty Murray was a school teacher before she got into government and she's one of the best got, a member of leadership now.

Political Science includes the study of public policy foreign and domestic. And of course students have an opportunity to make choices about what they would like to concentrate on. Your are "actually" full of shit.

[quote] 2. Whether it was banks, environmental regulations, or local issues.

You're giving the average American too much credit and you gave Frankin too little. You presented him as the average. Which he is not. Most Americans would have trouble even correctly naming the 3 branches of government. Its nice that you enjoyed speaking with Hillary's supporters Even they don't necessarily represent the average. Rally attendees are likely to be more engaged and better informed. However, a brief conversation only reveals so much about that individual. Passion is great but you also need knowledge.

[quote] 3. Politicians almost never personally write legislation. Most don't have the legal background. There is staff to translate ideas to legal writing.

Legislating is your job. Therefore you should be able to comprehend and draft legislation. You don't need a law degree but you should be able to effectively communicate your ideas.

[quote] The most important trait in a politician is caring about constituents and being able to effectively advocate for them. Cute + assumed nice guy + pro gay social media post is not enough.

Which is what this is about. You can't explain why Cena should run. Because you don't know that he is actually qualified. So you've gone all around John's barn, over qualifying the average American and under qualifying Al Frankin, in order to justify nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 46December 14, 2017 2:04 AM

[Quote] Political Science includes the study of public policy foreign and domestic.

Political science is about politics. "Policy", as more than a concept, isn't even a subject you can learn somewhere. You don't learn about health care systems, environmental regulations, or any substantive area of policy with a PoliSci degree or any one degree.

[Quote] You're giving the average American too much credit and you gave Frankin too little.

Franken was intelligent and charismatic. That's why he was successful at politics. He was in no way uniquely qualified for a political career. He argued everyday for months about the nuances of heath care policy a few months ago like most D senators, and I guarantee you he could not explain the US healthcare system even half as well as a billing manager at your local hospital at the time he was elected. He learned on the job like everyone else.

[Quote]Most Americans would have trouble even correctly naming the 3 branches of government.

Lamest kind of argument.

[Quote] Legislating is your job.

What you are talking about, literally writing legal documents, is not "legislating". Legislating is getting 50 other senators to support some goal you have. We all pay millions in tax dollars for legislative aids who write those documents for them. This isn't even something any lawyer could do, writing law requires highly specialized training.

[Quote] You can't explain why Cena should run.

Cena is charismatic figure with wide crossover appeal that would enter the race with almost universal name recognition. He seems to be a compassionate person, seems to share my views on issues (especially diversity, which tracks with immigration policy, and on social issues), seems smart enough to learn whatever he has to, seems to have an exceptional work ethic, and is wealthy enough to self fund his campaign. That's all Franken had going in. Many people get elected to office every year with only two of those things.

The movie is called Trainwreck, R81.

by Anonymousreply 83March 24, 2018 7:02 PM

I met him once when I was doing some reporting on a red carpet.

He shook my hand; it was huge, smooth, warm, and strong.

He was very nice; if he were older and I were younger I'd be head over heels.

by Anonymousreply 84March 24, 2018 7:08 PM

He's got a great body, decent but not amazing face. He is funny but he's never going to be as big as The Rock. They've been trying to push him as the white version for several years now. The Rock is more talented, more charismatic and better-looking.

by Anonymousreply 85March 24, 2018 7:12 PM

Cena has charisma in spades, and as this thread demonstrates he has a huge appreciation for his looks from certain quarters (I’m not into him, but I get it). He’s also acknowledged as a great wrestler, HOF class. He’s a half-decent actor, too.

The problem is that his demo is not like Dwayne J.’s, all young women & frauen who show remarkable loyalty to their lust objects no matter what project they do. The young men of America still watching wrestling or seeing mainstream action/cop/comedy movies don’t relate to Cena, either. He’s stalled in his career because sadly only little kids and their Moms still invest in him as a performer.

Younger and more vocal/active wrestling fans of right now go crazy for scuzzy dirtbags like Dean Ambrose, guys you can smell the sleaze on. Or they love pretty, cool & stoical Titans like Roman Reigns. Cena’s whole thing is corny & white-bread, now. WWE drove his career into the ground.

by Anonymousreply 89April 7, 2018 7:45 PM

He's not my type physically - too muscle bound. But I love him because:

a) He's a funny actor. His roles in "Trainwreck" with Amy Schumer and "Sisters" with Tina Fey show he's really got a comic flair. I'm sure he's good in "Blockers," too.

b) He's a true sweetheart - loves his gay fans, endorses same sex marriage, charitable beyond charitable. He's just an all around good guy, from what I can see.

by Anonymousreply 90April 7, 2018 7:52 PM

He a handsome man, now. But I don't think he's going to age well at all. Men with angular features like his don't usually age nicely. He's going to turn into Herman Munster in about 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 91April 7, 2018 8:10 PM

Cena's problem is his base from WWE is not what he needs to cross over like The Rock. Same reason Steve Austin never made it big - his base is the action movie loving alt right kick ass all male douche bros.

by Anonymousreply 92April 8, 2018 12:45 AM
