He was only on The Chew a few days a week anyway, so it won't be a big loss for the show.
I'm guessing that Bobby Flay and Wolfgag Puck are next. Both have a bad reputation.

I called him being one of the next to be accused in another thread.
I love watching The Chew, and the first time Blake Lively was a guest on their show, Batali set off my creep-o-meter. I enjoy the show with the three hosts, not many shows with multiple hosts could make it work, but Clinton, Carla, and Michael are great together.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 11, 2017 8:31 PM |
I'm finding my Creep-o-Meter pretty reliable. Almost every person accused so far has not really suprised me, with the exception of Bill Cosby and Al Franken (and I still am Team Franken - he was railroaded out).

Are you a "chewer"? It's okay to come out and say it.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | December 11, 2017 8:57 PM |
So why didn't they say anything?
Because the accepted narrative is that victims should be the ones to tell “their stories”. And while I understand the intention behind this stance, it removes bystanders from accountability.
See the Louis CK aftermath where everyone in the comedy community had heard the stories, but felt it wasn’t their place to out the victims. Of course this meant letting CK off the hook time after time. Convenient that.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | December 11, 2017 8:59 PM |
I think none of the chefs made a stink about it because they were afraid it would get them in trouble. Once the women who are preyed upon finally come out with it, THEN they pounce.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | December 11, 2017 9:03 PM |
I made up the “chewer” thing as a lil joke

Sexual harassment is endemic in the food industry.
Eater:
Ending Sexual Harassment in Restaurants Means Changing Service Culture
It’s not just that customers need to be more respectful: The entire mentality of the restaurant industry needs to shift. “You’re told to subject yourself to customer objectification to make more tips,” says Restaurant Opportunities Center United president Saru Jayaraman. “You’re told by management to wear more sexy clothing to make more tips. Once you’re an object, you’re an object all around.” The mentality seems to be that if servers are “letting themselves” be harassed in the name of higher check averages and better tips, that’s their choice — not a restaurant’s responsibility. So what is a restaurant to do when a customer harasses the staff? What do you do when the customer is wrong?
The toxic combination of the customer-is-always-right mentality and sexualizing employees is exacerbated by the low minimum wage for tipped workers. Per ROC’s 2014 study, the seven states that pay the full minimum wage to tipped employees have half the rate of sexual harassment as the states with lower wages for tipped workers. Because that tipped minimum wage — $2.13 an hour — barely covers taxes, servers who rely on tips to make a living are less empowered to put up with bad behavior from customers.
A majority of restaurant employees come from populations that are more vulnerable to workplace harassment. Seventy-one percent of all restaurant servers are female, and they experience almost three times the poverty rate of the American workforce, according to a 2012 ROC United study. Eleven percent of all restaurant and bar workers are undocumented immigrants.
And for generations, the general public has treated the restaurant industry like a Wild West full of temporary workers. But restaurant workers are not just college students and teens looking for summer jobs (even if they were, that wouldn’t make allowing sexual harassment any more acceptable). Even in fast food, considered the lowest barrier of entry in food service, only 30 percent of employees are teenagers.
Throughout the entire workforce, fewer than 25 percent of adults making minimum wage or lower — the majority of whom work in service industries — have never been married, suggesting they have households to maintain.
This adult workforce often has few or no benefits, no regular schedule, and no sick days. If restaurant employees are going to work while sick to make sure they can pay the bills, it’s no surprise that they’d also feel forced to put up with harassment to keep a roof over their heads.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | December 11, 2017 9:13 PM |

There seems to be a high level of narcissistic assholes in that camp.

The families of the accusers (especially the anonymous ones) - fathers, brothers, sons, and of course their husbands must now be subject to investigation in order to confirm the purity of the accusers' background.
Are they worthy of throwing these stones, then ducking for cover;or are there dark secrets concealed by one or more of the accusers' family male members (so to speak).

Anthony Bourdain feels 'guilty as f--k' over Mario Batali: 'I’ve been sitting on stories that were not mine to tell'
Anthony Bourdain is publicly processing the Mario Batali allegations with empathy, grief and a self-described guilty conscience. "It's Batali. And it's bad," Bourdain tweeted on Monday morning as the news broke online. After a female chef called the news "the most wonderful day of the year for those who have been hurt by Batali," Bourdain replied, "I wish that were true but in this case, I can assure you, from women talking to me with first hand stories, it’s not wonderful at all." He continued, "I’ve been sitting on stories that were not mine to tell. And feeling sick and guilty as f--k I hadn’t heard them before."

Anthony Bourdain is a well-past-his-prime, fame-obsessed, embarrassing bandwagon-jumper of VERY minimal talent who has carefully cultivated an image that is completely bullshit--his career is due to nepotism. He can seriously go fuck his hand. He's a hypocrite, he backpedals constantly if a situation threatens his image, and he's a phony with a trashy girlfriend. If he ever gave a shit about women being molested and harassed in the foodie workplace, he could have said something YEARS ago. He's only on board because his girlfriend is a talentless, disturbed skank who ran with this movement in order to venerate herself. Fuck them both. They found each other; they deserve each other, nights spent snorting rails and talking about how awesome and counterculture they think they are.

Bourdain never fails to rub the wrong way. After these stories come out, he jackals his long time friend just so he can virtue signal and also look so very in-the-know.
What an asshole. As usual.

"While I feel for these women, there was a time back in the day when sexual harassment was fun."
Yeah, maybe it was fun for straight men to be able to harass women and get away with it. Are you Donald Trump? I bet you long for the good old days when "sodomy laws" were still on the books.
[bold]"Several of the women who talked to the Times said they told Bloomfield about Friedman’s unacceptable behavior.
“Her response was always the same,” Nelson said. “‘That’s who he is. Get used to it. Or go work for someone else.’”[/bold]
Friedman’s company said in a statement Tuesday that the restaurateur, who is married to a former Spotted Pig hostess, will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the management of his businesses, according to the Times.
Friedman had earlier said in a statement, “I own my behavior, which can accurately be described at times as abrasive, rude and frankly wrong. The women who work at our restaurants are among the best in the business, and putting any of them in humiliating situations is unjustifiable. Some incidents were not as described, but context and content are not today’s discussion.
“I apologize now publicly for my actions.”
Bloomfield denied in a statement that she had ignored complaints against her business partner.
“In the two matters involving uninvited approaches that were brought to my attention over the years, I immediately referred both to our outside labor counsel, and they were addressed internally,” she said. “I have spoken to Ken about professional boundaries and relied on him to uphold our policies. Nonetheless I feel we have let down our employees and for that I sincerely apologize.”"
Is Bloomfield, the co-owner, a lesbian?

I remember the blind but thought everyone decided it was that ridiculous looking guy always dressed Ed Hardy style. Fieri?

R135: yes, she is. Her behaviour is so disappointing: she’s complicit. She could have created a safe work environment for women: she started at a famous London restaurant run - very differently - by two women.

How The Chew has managed to stay on TV for as long as it has is beyond me. Maybe old fatass's departure will make it watchable.

No, it was Ken Friedman who owns the Spotted Pig R140. There was a “rape room” which Batali participated in.
Cowboy Josh is now claiming that Ree Drummond sexually harassed him for years. Grabbing his ass and suggesting he wear his Wranglers tighter to make his package more prominent.
If she gets a jury of all gay men, they'll never be able to convict her.

Not sure I buy this new series of accusations. The accusations sound like bullshit to me.

No charges will be filed: "We're told the NYPD has closed both cases against Batali after investigators couldn't find any witnesses or evidence supporting claims made by the accusers."
