Do You Like When Men Wear Jewelry? Two Earrings, Necklaces?

A nice thin chain is sexy.

No, a necklace on a man is always tacky.

by Anonymousreply 1November 28, 2017 10:58 PM

I'm not really a big fan, but I think there's something sort of sweet about Catholic guys who wear their saint's medal. I had one of these as a kid, and still miss it. My brother lost his at a swimming pool. I have no idea where I lost mine. I also have some nice rings that I bought years ago, when I was in a strange fashion-forward phase. I don't wear them now.

Throw.

Out.

The.

Stupid.

Oversized.

Silver. *snort*

Pirate.

Hoop

Earrings.

Can't find a pic. "Old Dude Always Shaking Thick Hoop Earring" isn't bringing up the image that I'm looking for.

by Anonymousreply 3November 28, 2017 11:09 PM

Also, all gold, not too thick, not too fine. Or precious stone.

No silver/metal/platinum etc. Doesn't look good on men.

by Anonymousreply 4November 28, 2017 11:11 PM

metal --> steel

My brother had one too, R2, but the medal got stuck in the drain of a swimming pool and he drowned. So fucking tragic. Ironically, the medal was St Adjutor.

R8, If that's true, then I'm really very sorry for your loss.

by Anonymousreply 10November 28, 2017 11:16 PM

I think a nice piece of high karat gold, like a ring, looks great. I like a gold chain, not too thick, 18 karat or 22 karat.

by Anonymousreply 11November 28, 2017 11:22 PM

a chain yes. too much bling bling is a no no

by Anonymousreply 12November 28, 2017 11:23 PM

I bought my ex one of these, and had it engraved. He very rarely wears it, but he loves it.

R13 nice

by Anonymousreply 14November 28, 2017 11:35 PM

The OP's pic is ridiculous. A nice necklace worn under the shirt with a medal or inverted pentacle and one to two rings, a bracelet or three and an earring or two are fine as long as none of them are too big, flashy or weird looking. It also depends on the guy. A hot hipster/stoner with a few tattoos can pull it off better than a middle Eastern rug salesman, who will be blinged out like the idiot in OP's photo.

by Anonymousreply 15November 28, 2017 11:43 PM

Earrings are making a comeback. I like seeing a subtle piece of jewelry on a guy. More than one ring however screams queen

I like simple earrings on en. Gold ball or diamond stud.

I don't like a necklace over clothing, But I still like a leather necklace with a few ceramic beads that rests right at the neck. So it can be seen through an open shirt collar. Or entirely under the shirt so you only see when he takes his shirt off. Metal chain works for me.

That said bearded hairy men can look very hot with lots of jewelry. Not precious or semi-precious gems, or gold. But leather, yarn, ceramic beads and even turquoise set in silver. It works for me.

by Anonymousreply 19November 29, 2017 12:55 AM

I see lots of younger guys wearing 5 or 6 bracelets on one arm- beads, silver, leather. It's hot as long as they are straight.

I like a ring and a watch. I don’t mind earrings. Unless you have your ears guaged—I can’t even look at that shit.

Jewelry men should wear: a watch, cuff links, a wedding band. And that is IT. No necklaces, earrings, bracelets or rings. It just doesn't look right.

by Anonymousreply 25November 29, 2017 3:06 AM

R25 - do you see any difference between a statement of what you like and a statement of what is right and wrong?

by Anonymousreply 26November 29, 2017 3:13 AM

I feel silly wearing anything other than a watch. I was raised in a WASPy world where men in jewelry was an indicator of lower class. That said, now that I am grown, I couldn't care less what anyone wears in their ears, around their necks or up their asses. Live and let live.

"Do you see any difference between a statement of what you like and a statement of what is right and wrong?"

Anything other than the basics (watch, cuff links, wedding band) is considered bad taste. And it is. Men wearing earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings....I see guys wearing this stuff and it doesn't look attractive. They just look silly. I think a lot of guys do it to show off; hey, look at me, I've got a diamond in my ear! And a big ol' gold chain! I'm SO well off and hip!

by Anonymousreply 29November 30, 2017 3:19 AM

A pinkie crested signet ring always is proper.

by Anonymousreply 30November 30, 2017 4:27 AM

R27 yeah because people are supposed to live their lives according to what WASP society think. There not the end all be all.

by Anonymousreply 31November 30, 2017 4:55 AM

I don’t like ear piercings or piercings in general. All I can think about it when I see them is another thing that I have to clean and take care of.

by Anonymousreply 32November 30, 2017 5:12 AM

R29 - guys do it to show off? You realize you've just condemned the entire fashion industry, automobile industry etc....the list goes on and on.

by Anonymousreply 33December 1, 2017 8:43 PM

Earlier this year I was in an antique mall and a two Eldergays walked in. One of them was wearing two hoop earnings in each ear, several gold chains and a diamond ring on every finger, while carrying a cane. He looked absolutely absurd.

by Anonymousreply 35December 1, 2017 9:36 PM

^^^I forgot to mention the bracelets on each wrist, one was a thick rope chain and the other was a wide nugget bracelet. Oddly enough he wans't wearing a watch.

by Anonymousreply 36December 1, 2017 9:37 PM

OP, you dick, you should've offered more choices in your poll!

by Anonymousreply 37December 1, 2017 9:55 PM

Jewelry is acceptable if done right.

by Anonymousreply 38July 8, 2018 6:32 AM

To each his own....I wear a nice watch and wedding band. I inherited a very good quality diamond ring, 18k with 1 1/2 ct solitaire diamond that I only wear for special occasions, it has great sentimental value. I'm old and I don't care what anyone thinks. Wear what you like.

by Anonymousreply 39July 8, 2018 7:10 AM

I dated a guy that wore clip on earrings, it was just too much for me.

by Anonymousreply 40July 9, 2018 11:15 AM

The creepiest are the over-40 guys who still wear jewelry who, I guess, make them feel like they're still youthful. I love older guys, but not the ones who desperately cling to youth with trying to wear clothes for a guy in their 20s or jewelry.

by Anonymousreply 41July 9, 2018 12:50 PM

Looks stupid and desperate

by Anonymousreply 42July 9, 2018 12:52 PM

Big gold chain is a black thang.

by Anonymousreply 43July 9, 2018 12:55 PM

Only when paired with a caftan.

by Anonymousreply 44July 9, 2018 12:58 PM

R43, that's just not so anymore...

by Anonymousreply 45July 10, 2018 12:04 AM

For either men or women I think the adage "less is more" as far as wearing jewelry is concerned. A bunch of showy necklaces with tacky rings on every finger says less about the person wearing them than one or two well made, interesting pieces tastefully worn. Piercings anywhere but the ears, to me, is useless and even in the ears is questionable, certainly not multiple times with your ears loaded down with junk. I personally have never liked earrings on men and as a man I tend not to care very much what women think they need to wear (of which some women I've talked to find an interesting attitude considering the stereotype of a gay male is to be inordinately interested in women's clothes and jewelry). IMO, jewelry on a man should not exceed one or two rings including a wedding band, a watch perhaps but many people nowadays use their cell phones to check the time (I'm not a slave to my phone so a watch is OK sometimes) or cuff links maybe if he's getting way dressed up. That's it, no earrings or necklaces.

by Anonymousreply 46July 10, 2018 12:28 AM

generally speaking I'm not a fan of jewelry on men, but sometimes a bracelet (string, drab beads, or leather) or a leather necklace can be ok. And I agree that saint medals are charming in a naive kind of way.

by Anonymousreply 47July 10, 2018 12:51 AM

IF your ears are already pierced I would rather see a very small ear ring than an ugly hole in your ear. I don't wear any jewelry but that is my preference, I normally find it distracting so if you want to distract from your natural features, go for it.

by Anonymousreply 48July 10, 2018 1:51 AM

I don't even like jewelry on women.

by Anonymousreply 49July 10, 2018 1:57 AM

I only like tasteful jewelry on men: a string of pearls for a night at the movies, chunky costume jewelry bracelets and a plastic tiara for Saturday night at the corner bar, a simple diamond stud in each ear with an up 'do coupled with a cameo necklace for the memorial service for a dear neighbor...

by Anonymousreply 50July 10, 2018 2:29 AM

I do love an earring and a nice thin chain on a man.

by Anonymousreply 51July 13, 2018 3:52 AM

I don't mind an ID bracelet or a couple of rings - but big gold chains or really ostentatious jewelry is tacky to me (I feel the same way about women's jewelry)

by Anonymousreply 52July 13, 2018 3:58 AM

Some guys can wear anything and look fine.

Other than a wristwatch, no jewelry on men. Ever.

It is common.

by Anonymousreply 55July 13, 2018 4:03 AM

I only wear a wristwatch and yet I'm as common as muck. Life can be so paradoxical.

by Anonymousreply 56July 13, 2018 4:11 AM

You don't need jewelry--you clearly have such a lovely personality.

by Anonymousreply 57July 13, 2018 4:18 AM

Jewelry is for ethnics.

WTF is wrong with you people?
