Even though I like gossiping myself there's surely no group of people going crazier over "gay rumors" (however absurd) than straight teenage girls. I admit I used to frequent social media sites such as Tumblr (and still to this day Twitter) and whenever there was a new movie with a current fav (any of the Chris-guys or RDJ or Hiddleston or whoever) or whenever the 1D kids gave interviews together.. it took one look between two of the guys and these teenage kids would lose their shit scream GAY at everything. They're more obsessed than I am - but for what reason?? Why do straight girls go crazy over men/boys possibly being gay? Sometimes I even find it slightly offensive how much they're obsessing over a sexuality they clearly no nothing about.
Why are straight girls so obsessed with (possibly) gay boys/men??

Because people want to know who's a sissy. How else can you protect your private parts?

Oh, dear. Guess why sensible Dlers are feeling more than slightly offended at this?

R2 - because of my typo? It's *know.
I mainly said slightly because I didn't wanna seem like an over sensitive queen even tho this is what I am.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 24, 2017 1:56 AM |
It is somewhat weird. A lot of the gay characters fanfiction -- and nowadays gay romance fiction - is written by lesbians.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 24, 2017 1:57 AM |
R1 I'm not talking about "people", I'm talking about straight girls/women desperately wanting certain men (they actually find attractive) to be gay.. why? Shouldn't they want them to be straight so that theoretically they have a chance? (Not really but.. you know.)
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 24, 2017 2:00 AM |
I don't know about adult women, but for those in their teens/early 20s, gay boys and men may seem like they have a kinder, gentler version of masculinity, especially when you have little or no sexual experience.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 24, 2017 2:01 AM |
If you really think that, OP, you need to look up "narcissism" in the dictionary.
Believe it or not, no one is obsessed with you.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 24, 2017 2:06 AM |
R4 - from what I've seen online it's mainly straight girls. Or, you know, these "maybe fluid" (but actually straight) social media girls. They go absolutely bonkers over this shit up to a point where they almost demand that certain celebs come out even tho they're obviously straight. Or. I used to like that BBC show, Sherlock. (I know DL hates Cumberbatch. I loved him in this!!) I witnessed armies of straight girls and women attacking the writers for not making Sherlock Holmes and John Watson canonly gay. They called the writers homophobic for God's sake (and it's written by GAY MAN Mark Gatiss).
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 24, 2017 2:07 AM |
R7 - not with my ass, probably. But they are obsessed with actors/male celebs possibly being gay. It is a fact, babe, it is! I've seen it.
R6 - maybe, yeah..
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 24, 2017 2:09 AM |
I was a straight teen girl once and I didn't care who was gay. I mainly cared about who was cute. I don't know if this is a thing. On the other hand, there's an entire genre of porn manga in Japan written by straight women about gay men. It's called yaoi.

Fraus and fag hags are pathetic.

R10 what are you now?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 24, 2017 2:18 AM |
Reality check...teen girls are not that into sex. A beautiful gay boy is perfect for them to squee over because they get to look at him, they imagine him relating to her and talking to her about guys, they can imagine him fucking around with another cute boy and there's not pressure on them to have sex with him. Can you imagine how tiring have a teenage boy's sex drive aimed at you as a teenage girl gets, especially when teenage boys are mostly the biggest, most selfish assholes on the planet?
It's all innocuous fantasy for them.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 24, 2017 2:18 AM |
Some girls and women find the thoughts of 2 men together hot, just as some straight men find the thought of 2 women together hot. It's really just a fantasy. Celebrities are there to be fantasised over. As far as it being offensive, why would it be, really, as long as everyone understands it is just a fantasy, and the said celebrity are actual human beings with their own private lives.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 24, 2017 2:22 AM |
r13, you're certainly right about lots of those girls, but some are not being only cute about it. look at those larries (harry/louis-fangirls) for instance. they're mental.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 24, 2017 2:23 AM |
I've seen it explained as internalised misogyny - they've been told over and over that a woman being sexual is wrong, slutty, etc. And so instead of fantasising about them with their favourite, they instead fantasise about their favourite with another man - no woman to be dirty and slutty then.
R13 is a touch too naive - the kind of girls OP is talking about are writing sexual fanfics and drawing weird "art". It's definitely sexual for them - though they deny it.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 24, 2017 2:27 AM |
R14 - But isn't that sort of offensive? I mean, lesbians surely find it offensive when men get off thinking about them or whatever. Because they're being disrespectful, think a woman fucking another woman is in the end about MEN again (straight men). Because they're obviously not really into each other, they just wanna get men hot. So women wanting 2 men to be gay so they can fantasize over it is also kinda offensive.
Anyway. I'm a sensitive soul, I told y'all.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 24, 2017 2:29 AM |
Why are straight men so obsessed with (hot) lesbians? Same thing, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 24, 2017 2:32 AM |
Straight girls these days know that the object of their desire will never want them, but they can't handle them dating another girl (and feminism doesn't allow them to hate other women for no good reason), so they make them gay and imagine they have a strong connection with the guy because only they know their "secret".
It lets them hate the girl (they aren't jealous, it is just that the girl is forcing the poor guy into a contract he is miserable in and taking advantage of his forced closeting), it lets them feel superior to other fans because they know the guy best.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 24, 2017 2:33 AM |
Fantasizing sexually and having sex are two different things, R16, as I'm sure plenty of people around here could testify to. The fantasy is safe and actually satisfies them romantically and sexually (btw, women's sexuality is almost exclusively in their brains...can have an orgasm without being touched, etc.) whereas the reality is having some asshole grope them in someone's basement while drooling on their chest and cumming three seconds after shoving it in without bothering to even turn her on. So, yeah, they'd rather fantasize.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 24, 2017 2:33 AM |
[quote] But isn't that sort of offensive? I mean, lesbians surely find it offensive when men get off thinking about them or whatever. Because they're being disrespectful, think a woman fucking another woman is in the end about MEN again (straight men).
Newsflash: sexual fantasies generally don't put a huge priority on being "respectful".
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 24, 2017 2:36 AM |
[quote]So women wanting 2 men to be gay so they can fantasize over it is also kinda offensive.
We don't call it gay-fetishizing for nothing.
It's also a power thing, sort of directing two men (for the price of one) to behave as they want them to. And also a way to dismiss the relevance of any actual or potential real-life gf/wife.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 24, 2017 2:39 AM |
R20 - why aren't they fantasizing about that guy making sweet love to them then but fantasize about him fucking his dude bro bro who has a gf and 2 kids?

R19, this sounds insane which is why I'm certain that you're right lol.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 24, 2017 2:42 AM |
I believe it also has to do with them wanting to look like "allies" or to generally look open-minded and oh so AWARE and woke. By "supporting" gay guys or couples (even if it's just in their head) they're doing something.. they're presenting themselves as those great gay rights supporters when in fact they're just fetishizing a sexuality for their own benefit. It also makes them feel more special because their own straight girl life is probably bland af.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 24, 2017 2:45 AM |
R19 is absolutely right. The tinhat fangirls (conspiracy theorists like the Larries) are VICIOUS.

[quote] Reality check...teen girls are not that into sex.
Many teen girls are into sex. I hate that people assume that women don't like or enjoy sex. Some may not, but just as many do and it's very puritanical to think that women don't enjoy sex.
As far as the tumblr and fan fic girls go, they fantasize about gays for many reasons, OP. Sometimes it turns them on, but when they fantasize about hetero men (celebs, tv characters etc...being gay), often it's because they don't want to think of the guy being with another woman. Hard to explain, but I was involved in a fandom for many years and often that's what it all came down to. They'd write about a straight celeb or hetero character being gay because if they thought about them being with a woman, it was like the guy was "cheating." If he's not with me, he can't be with any woman, so I'll pretend like he's gay mentality.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 24, 2017 2:48 AM |
R27, teen girls are not women. I've described the teen girl experience a couple times now. If you have a different version, go ahead and enlighten us about all the romantic and fulfilling experiences teen girls have being groped by inept teenage boys. Actually, the majority of teen girls sexual experience consists of the boys shoving the girl's head into his lap and saying 'Suck it if you love me'. Not a hell of a lot to swoon over, hence the fantasizing.

Because their mothers were all maids.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 24, 2017 3:01 AM |
I've seen a lot of this stuff and it seems like they think gay men are kinder, gentler, more emotional, and often feminine. They fetishise gays because they believe straight men will never act that way. Not to mention that on sites like Tumblr being "gay" (which really seems to mean just about anything on that site) is acted out as though it's a fad, to the point where heterosexuality is seen as boring. People will attack heterosexual "ships" for no other reason other than they are not "gay". This is why you can probably trace most of the new "identities" back to tumblr and why so many young straight women now consider themselves gay men. I realise that last statement is controversial, but if you spent enough time there you would see it too. That site is a mess of confused kids and young adults reinforcing each others delusional behaviour.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 24, 2017 3:38 AM |
R30 I left Tumblr a year or so ago for this and other reasons. I mean, I don't give a shit what they identify as, I don't know these people, but it just annoys me how they're using the gay community to, idk, pimp their own boring existence. As if our sexuality is some sort of game they also wanna play now, some ad on they can use to make their life experience better. It pisses me off especially when they then try to lead the discussion on gay life when they have NO clue.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 24, 2017 3:46 AM |
The answer to the original question is really simple. I mean, have you met straight boys/men?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 24, 2017 6:08 AM |
Good point, but then why are (some) gay boys obsessed with straight men?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 24, 2017 6:58 AM |
What R14 said.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 24, 2017 1:56 PM |
It amazes me that people like R28 feel that they speak for everyone. R28, you say you've described the "teen girl experience"? Really? It sucks, and I'm sorry that your experiences consisted only of inept boys groping you. Yes, I had plenty of inept boys pawing at me too, but at the time, I was also inept and inexperienced. However, being groped by inept boys wasn't my sole experience as a teen either, and by the time I was 17 or so, I certainly did enjoy sex, as did other girls my age that I knew, especially ones that had steady boyfriends. I know that goes against your narrative, so I'm sure you'll be back to call me a liar.
R30 and R31, those are the same reasons why I left tumbr. Many of the fangirls there are completely delusional and some border on downright scary. The fandom I was in had stalkers, while others were just totally obsessed. If you didn't side with one of the "leaders" of a ship, then you were basically attacked. They were so crazy that if you liked a het ship, even if was canon, then you were labeled a homophobe by some of them, not kidding. If you agreed that a het character (especially a male het character) was het, that also made you a homophobe. It's insane to be honest. Most of these girls are harmless, but believe me when I say that plenty of them probably have serious mental issues and could be dangerous.
I stand by my points at R27. Two main reasons why they become obsessed with gay men. One is because they think it's hot, (no different than straight guys fantasizing about two women), and secondly, some are threatened by other women, so it's easier for them to think of a guy being with another guy instead of a woman.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 24, 2017 3:03 PM |
[Quote] really, as long as everyone understands it is just a fantasy, and the said celebrity are actual human beings with their own private lives.
Alot of them don't understand that, especially on tumblr.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 24, 2017 3:12 PM |
Girls and woman are always facinated with what is unattainable. You girls that crush on gay men can always have the fantasy without the harsh rejection or the self-esteem drop.
"Oh we would be together, but he is gay" "I'm the one for him, if he weren't gay." It's not that I'm not good enough, he just don't work that way." Unrequited love can go a long way if you are too scared to find a real relationship, where you might get hurt.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 24, 2017 4:54 PM |
So given that OP got his answer I'd like to pose another question. Why do so many straight girls come here pretending to be gay men. It usually only happens in certain threads, notably those about guys who have fandoms. Is it because they want to create the illusion that their favourite singer/actor/social media cunt has a big gay following? Why are they here?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 24, 2017 5:11 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 24, 2017 5:32 PM |
Not sure, R41, though I have seen DL threads (which are full of obvious girls pretending to be gay guys) referenced as proof that the gay community loves whoever.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 24, 2017 6:07 PM |
R38 Tbh, I think it's not that complicated. They probably gush over their (possibly gay) favs in other places (Twitter, Tumblr, etc) as well so DL is just another place for them to rant. Plus if the people on DL (still mainly gay men) agree and also assume a person is gay it probably gives the rumor more "credibility" cos GAY MAN JUST KNOW!!!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 24, 2017 6:25 PM |
Hollywood has a history of marketing gay males to a straight female audience so it would be only natural for girls/women to end up focusing on them.

by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 24, 2017 6:33 PM |
R44 - you think? How did HW do this then exactly.. marketing gay males to straight women? In the very past?
Because IMO this started only, idk, 10 years ago maybe. When HW realized that all the "bromance" shit was selling extremely well. That a maybe small but extremely loud (and therefore important) part of every fandom would jump on every little hint that either fictional characters or even real actors/singers could be more than just bros. So they (TPTB + actors/actresses) started intentionally creating/manufacturing such "gay moments".. during interviews or whatever, because they knew it would create some intense social media noise. And this is why we see this bromance (=romance) shit aimed at straight fangirls whenever a new movie comes out or a boyband does an interview.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 24, 2017 6:44 PM |
This is a misconception, OP. A very vocal minority of straight girls are into gay boys/men. Most girls don't care about gays, the rest are homophobic.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 24, 2017 6:46 PM |
Are they? The only time I see women discuss this issue is when they want to convince themselves their fave couldn't possibly be gay.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 24, 2017 6:47 PM |
I think it's a certain group of straight girls. On Tumblr, for instance, it seems like every girl is obsessed with (possibly) gay celebs. In "real life" it's probably a minority.

by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 24, 2017 6:56 PM |
Plus pretending they're being forcibly closeted allows them to pretend their favourite is perfect - anything they don't like can be dismissed as something forced on the guy by the studio/label/blackmailing wife, and they can cling to their perfect image.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 24, 2017 7:02 PM |
It's certainly become an important business tool. While in the past the main goal was to make absolutely clear that a celeb is 100% straight they're now playing both sides. They throw those who want a celeb to be gay a bone every now and then while officially sticking with the narrative that they're straight and actively denying the rumors they created themselves. And the cray fangirls eat it all up.. "gay moments" are proof that their fav is gay. And everything that points towards them being straight is just a narrative created by TPTB. Both the main audience is happy (because the actor is straight) and the loud, cray following because they can pretend he is gay while having to pretend he's straight.

1) Gay boys are "safe" which is perfect for a girl just coming to terms with sexuality (and grown ass women with stunted growth).
2) She can acknowledge and fantasize about his sexual desires without having to equate them to the perviness she deals with from her straight boy peers.
3) If she can pretend he is gay, she wont be consumed by stabs of jealousy everytime he is near a girl or dating one.
4) Female sexual repression where these kids reason that if a girl was doing the same stuff with their idol, she would be a whore. So the surrogate character must also be written as male.
5) Most of the middle aged women just fetishize gay sex lives.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 24, 2017 7:17 PM |
Look at Styles having to wave a gay flag at every single of his gigs and his fangirls actually interpret that as a coming out even tho everyone with half a brain knows he's just pandering to his lunatic gay hag fans.

[QUOTE]3) If she can pretend he is gay, she wont be consumed by stabs of jealousy everytime he is near a girl or dating one.
The funniest thing about this is it actually seems to do the reverse, because these girls get so insanely angry and jealous about the girls they claim are beards
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 24, 2017 7:27 PM |
Why do they select guys who are not all that famous or who are that good looking (Cumberbatch, Styles) as the objects of their lusts?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 24, 2017 7:27 PM |
In Cumberbatch's case, his part in "Sherlock" or whatever may have played a role. I haven't seen the series, but I know it was written by a gay man or whatever, and while the main characters are not gay, he may have included certain elements in their relationships which are suggestive and play with the audience's perception.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 24, 2017 7:31 PM |
R59 They really do, it's so ridiculous.
R60 Cumberbatch and Styles are pretty famous. But lots of stans do tend to focus on c-listers and i think that's because they seem more accessible and it also helps if they attend alot of conventions.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 24, 2017 7:32 PM |
R61 that's exactly how it started, and for a while the writers played along a little, not realising how seriously some of these loons took it. Then once they realised just how insane these girls are (thinking that BC had been blackmailed into marriage and having kids) they stopped joking around about it and bluntly said that no, Sherlock and Watson were not a couple at all - which led to claims of them being insensitive, queerbaiting, and even accusations of Mark Gatiss (the gay co-creator) being a traitor to the gay community.

Don't like Martin Freeman and care little about Cumberbatch (I enjoyed Sherlock tho) but at least they don't play it up for the fangirls when doing interviews. Hate those celebs that claim to have guy/girl crushes on their co-stara even tho they're straight as an arrow.

[Quote] Don't like Martin Freeman and care little about Cumberbatch
They both seem like snobs.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 25, 2017 3:56 PM |
Cumberbatch's Oscar campaign for The Imitation game organized by Harvey Weinstein and the timing of his shotgun wedding didn't help the fans accept his relationship. If you add a weird pregnancy with a shrinking belly every time she needed to go through security at the airport, the Sherlock's fans lost it.
For me Freeman will always be Tim from the Office, so the "relationship" of Sherlock and Watson was more for the jokes, even if in Conan Doyle's books it was a bit odd from time to time... (I loved Jim & Pam from the american version of The Office, you finally get to see after they got together, and the everyday life not being always fun, sometime boring after a few years, it's more realistic)
Thank you all for the analyse, save me a lot of money on therapy...

R10, that looks like a bad drawing of Joan Jett kissing Leeza Gibbons.
My 2 cents, the gay men in fanfic and manga and whatever the hell else bear little or no resemblance to any man, gay or straight. They behave like an immature girl's fantasy of men, and making them gay means never having to deal with their own issues about sex. Basically it's another manifestation of women's need for control.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 26, 2017 12:31 AM |
And to add to R57
6) if there's no woman in the picture, there's no competition to stress her out. She knows another woman can steal her dream man from her, but another man seems less threatening
7) She thinks it makes her seem avant garde and much hipper than her fellow fraus to be secretly fantasizing about and accepting of gay men
8) It's not cheating on her husband or her boyfriend if her crush is actually gay

The dreadful Larries are mainly het women in their 40s and 50s who spend all their leisure time writing 100k fics which contain long explicit descriptions of gay sex. They can literally spend 2k words describing someone being rimmed.

You only need to look at the Sam Heughan threads to see that these women are DL regulars and have been for years, despite the Prancing Pony rule (is that ever enforced)?
The Sam Heughan Is Gay thread is on its 24th iteration and consists of the same fraus posting pics with the caption GAY SAM or HE PINGS HERE.
Why does DL allow this sort of thing?

R77, there are hardly any rules on DL but they have this on their front page:
'If you try to ride the Prancing Pony or similar attractions, you will be dismounted.'
You'd think they would shut down 24 threads all about Sam Heughan being closeted and bearding. The posters are very prolific and start a new thread every week, but DL does nothing to stop them.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 26, 2017 2:18 AM |
The DL frau-festations are cyclical R81
Go back two or three years and you'll see almost identical threads but around a completely different set of actors-- Lee Pace, Jon Kortajarena, Tom Hiddleston, etc.
Today you've got Heughan, Ben Barnes and Luke Evans (Evans fraus seem to be the longest-running show on DL)
But yes, the obsessive stalking of the actors (non-famous) friends and family, reading their Instagram posts as if they were interpreting the Oracle at Delphi, all that crazy crap.
The fan fiction chicks seem to be a different breed-- see R57 and R72 for that.

Don't make the mistake of assuming that Twitter and Tumblr represent the majority.
I don't know any women obsessed with gay men IRL.

This makes me think of female to male trans 'gay men'. They could have a relationship with a straight man as a woman but instead insist that they're a gay man and want a relationship with another gay man. It all comes across as a fetish for men they can't have.

by Anonymous | reply 97 | November 26, 2017 6:10 PM |
Because they are closeted bisexuals and they are too young to know that, so they project closeted bi-ness onto men.
The teens you don’t have to worry so much about. They will grow out of it once they realize it’s about their own sexuality. It’s the grown-ass 40-something year old women who are obsessed with slash fic & stuff that need therapy.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | November 26, 2017 6:15 PM |
Nah, they're straight girls claiming to be bi (or: fluid) because it's more "exciting/edgy". I'm a lesbian and I used to be a fan of quite a few shows and bands/singers in the past and the Tumblr/Twitter-fandom was always the same. The craziest/loudest were always straight girls or women that would 1. ship (canon_ly straight) men and 2. would go bat-shit if their "ship" didn't become canon.. they'd cry about "lack of representation of LGBTQTIBAEFHEAF" and homophobia way louder than actual gay fans; would at some point start claiming they're "queer" to be taken seriously in their insanity. But they simply weren't. Those chicks were straight af and would never no neat a pussy ever. Which is also why those crazies are NEVER gay, always bi/queer/fluid/whatever.. because this means that when they're with a guy they can still claim to be queer even tho they will never date a woman.
The most annoying thing about it all is that they're glamouring their "specialness" of NOT being hetero while never ever having to go through any struggle since they're only queer in their head but never in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | November 26, 2017 7:29 PM |
And of course they - and Tumblr in general - have a rule that you can never question the way someone identifies. So when one of these tedious fuckwits claims to be queer, you can't ever call them on their bullshit.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | November 26, 2017 7:34 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 101 | November 26, 2017 7:59 PM |
R100 IKR?! THIS is so true. And I know it shouldn't bother me, but man that drives me up the wall lol. Especially when those kids actually try to tell me, an actual gay woman, what representation or being gay is all about. And like you said, you cannot call them out, because you're not allowed to question it. And if you do then you are the one being homophobic.. which is.. insane.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | November 26, 2017 8:05 PM |

You're making our sexuality a guessing game, a fascination, when it is our fucking life. Stay in your line, gurl, which means - stick with straight men and leave us the fuck alone.

Gay men are such sensitive souls, wounded by being the object of someone else’s sexual fantasies. How it does it affect your life.? Don’t you ever have sexy fantasies about people you don’t know and never will know? I fantasize about straight men all the time and I really have no idea how it feels to be them. A lot of DLers seem to fancy themselves experts on female thinking and sexuality. We want people to accept our sexuality, but not to imagine it?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | November 26, 2017 9:29 PM |
R108 Because these fangirls go about their fantasies in the most offensive ways possible, using the most offensive stereotypes, and acting like things like the closet are just cute little plot points - and then shield themselves from any criticism by claiming to be "queer"
by Anonymous | reply 109 | November 26, 2017 10:20 PM |
Another thing that annoys me about them is that they actually act as if being bisexual is "harder" than being gay.. that bisexuals have to deal with worse discrimination than us.
Also, yes. They celebrate the closet. To them it's a plot device, basically, something interesting and mysterious. Plus it's ignorant as fuck towards teens that actually DO struggle with their sexuality and their coming out.

So many of the demented Larries are married with kids but will say they're bisexual online just to get LGBT kudos.
DL plays host to the het frau's obsession with the closet and bearding. Look at the 24 Sam Heughan threads. All they do is analyse his girlfriend's social media and scream about how fake their relationship is if they're separated for more than a week at a time.
To these fraus, bearding means traveling all over the globe and shacking up, even marrying. They have no idea of what a beard actually is.

Wasn't there something about one of the main Larries being a lesbian? No clue if that's true or just a claim.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | November 27, 2017 5:35 PM |
Quite a few of them claim to be lesbians, R124, as they all insist none of them are attracted to either Louis or Harry. They just write this erotic fan-fic and draw erotic fan-art and constantly post photos and video of these two men they're totally not attracted to at all. This way they can dismiss anyone who doesn't believe in Larry as being a stupid girl who is attracted to either Harry or Louis.
And the one you're probably thinking of is nuts. She thinks Louis is visiting her blog and sending her secret messages, even contacted his lawyer because she thought he'd defend her when she was getting close to getting into legal trouble. She has drawn Louis's tattoos on her chest and made a video of her breast-feeding a doll. She's insane

What you've all been saying:
1. Ugly women like to imagine two hot guys together because the more penises the merrier and if the guys are gay, there's no chance that some more attractive woman will be able to steal her heartthrob away and she can have both guys all to herself, since gay guys won't care about her looks, just her sparkling personality,
2. DL attracts these sorts of women like flies to shit because this is an anonymous board and it allows them to smack talk their mancrushes in a way they can't elsewhere. It also allows them to do some heavy duty stalking-- any of those threads, from Luke Evans to Dylan Glick to Sam Heugan are serious stalkfests where they're tracking down distant relatives IGs and going through the trash of the hotel the guy stayed at. Some seriously twisted people find DL and do occasionally spill over to other threads.

R27 But it makes zero sense. If I'm a fangirl obsessed with a gay celebrity, I have a snowball's chance in Hawaii to be with him no matter how much I try to meet and seduce him. It's the death of my ultimate fantasy. Why not make him bisexual at least? Then he can be with a guy to avoid making "me" jealous, and then we can be together, voila.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 9, 2018 9:01 PM |
R141 the mind of a stan is a strange place. Have you ever seen a ex with someone new and felt physically ill, had her gut twist up on you? I think some fans feel that kind of sickening jealousy at the thought of their love object being with another woman. The idea of him being with a man doesn't trigger that animal instinct in them. They are trying to avoid the sick feeling with their elaborate conspiracy theories.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 9, 2018 9:15 PM |
A lot of them romanticize gay relationships. A straight relationship, to them, is ultimately boring and full of social conventions. Wedding, mortgage, kids. Ordinary life. A gay romance is seen as being all about passion, eroticism, enjoyment of both intellectual and emotional nature. A "pure" romantic relationship.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 9, 2018 9:43 PM |
R142 But isn't him being with a man in worse in a way? A woman can compete sexually against other woman. It's more difficult to do if your love rival is a man. Bisexual people can this sort of heightened jealousy from their partners all the time.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 9, 2018 9:44 PM |
R144 I'm guessing that those straight fangirls - while dense - know deep down that they don't stand a chance with the men they're obsessing over so them being gay makes this possibly easier to take? Since it means that they're just generally not into women.. not just not into those crazy fantards.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 9, 2018 9:55 PM |
Girl here. I don't think I've ever been a stan or obsessed with an imaginary relationship, but if I fancy a celebrity, I like to imagine they are bisexual, because so am I. It makes me feel like we share something, even though it's kind of ridiculous. But also hot.

R144 those nutty fans can't compete with the kind of women these guys can get. They aren't even close to being in the same league. It's not rational. If they were rational they wouldn't put so much energy into someone they don't know. I think for some reason they just don't have that unpleasant physical reaction to the thought of their man being with a dude. They probably like the other guy too. It's not a universal reaction. Real gay actors hide it because a lot of women won't be able to fantasize about an out gay man. There's also plenty of fiction about mousy girls who get the hot guy. These particular fans just fall into the want him to be gay subgroup.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | January 9, 2018 10:16 PM |
I agree with the "if I can't have him, no one can" theorists- if the crush winds up being gay, then no other woman can have him.

by Anonymous | reply 149 | January 9, 2018 10:23 PM |
I think it's also got to do with the kudos you get on social media for "supporting" gay couples (and claiming to be bi yourself, like R113 pointed out already). Just that they don't give a rat's ass about ACTUAL gay people/celebrities, because it's obviously not as mysterious when everyone knows it. I can't quite wrap my head around their thinking, but it seems that "shipping" two straight men (in their heads: closet cases) is the absolute proof that you're an A+ LGBT-supporter these days. These people are nuts, tho. Just the other day I read an article in which Louis said that it's these people that ruined his genuine friendship with Harry and I believe it. When you can't even stand next to someone without all these nutcases screaming GAY at the top of their lungs.. it's gotta be painful. And don't even get me started on all those gay flag waving heteros at Harry's concerts.. or the "Black Lives Matter"-signs holding WHITE girls. It's weird watching shippers try to come up with excuses. Like they don't want to take a hint? A few months ago i saw one ask a television writer why there weren't any pictures of 2 costars together. I can't speak for those that are young but every gay man should know that you represent 100% safety to all straight adult women. They can be exactly who they are around you because they are not trying to impress you. They will trust you before they would trust a straight guy with anything. You can relate to them far easier than a straight guy. I've said before that I believe gay men have insight to both male and female perspectives. And there is no competition to "win" you as a partner over another woman..

This is like the yaoi fangirls we anime/manga fans have put up with for forever. They're fucking crazy.
After years of dealing with them taking over every damn anime message board I developed a theory. A lot of them have plain simple dick envy. They have some type of body dysmorphia and wish they had a penis. I think their obsession with slash or yaoi is them fantasizing about being able to fuck a man back instead of always being the one that gets fucked.

Can someone just be here because they find interest in the people here or are they only allowed to be here because of the gender of a lot of the people here?

R163 What exactly is your point???
by Anonymous | reply 167 | January 10, 2018 2:51 PM |
r167 my point is that women do not view sex the same as men do. This includes straight and gay men. I have only ever met one woman who was obsessed about sex and she was a sex addict. Most men seem to be obsessed about it.
GQ: *actual *research shows that while men think about sex a lot (and yes, more often than women), every seven seconds is a gross exaggeration. When Kinsey researchers asked men and women how often they think about sex, 54 percent of men said they think about sex several times a day, 43 percent responded a few times per week or just a few times per month, and 4 percent said less than once a month. Meanwhile, 19 percent of women said they thought about sex every day or several times a day, 67 percent responded a few times per week or a few times a month or, and 14 percent said less than once a month.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | January 10, 2018 2:56 PM |

Do these desperate fraus still think Harry Styles would want to date LOUIS FUGLINSON?
He looks disgusting these days. Niall has got fat too.

R164 Mila Kunitz once claimed the same about herself on Conan. I still don’t get what she meant, and the statement comes across misogynistic & homophobic to my ears.

R143 is hitting closest to the mark so far. Women have a greater capacity to fantasise than men do, and the imagination component of sex for them figures largely. And ‘shipping’ is not even about sex, primarily.
It’s rather an elaborate & exotic escapist fantasy, a way of living out an imaginary life free of the very real mundane constraints pushed upon women. Some of you identify shippers as ‘basement-dwellers, virgins & socially-inept people stuck in confining home-lives who are often either teenaged or middle-aged.
Shouldn’t this make it obvious why they insert themselves into free & breezy fantasy, where they can feel what it’s like to be a desirable (and notice; often rich, popular or powerful) young man with few societal strictures (barring his sexuality, the enticing taboo element of the set-up to lend it a passionate drama)?
Remember the adage, “the world of the heterosexual is a sick & boring life...”

[quote] This is like the yaoi fangirls we anime/manga fans have put up with for forever.
Sit down and pop a Vike, Dr. Weeaboo Freud. Your heart is about to pop.
Perhaps when you’ve had a rest, you could explain the psychological basis of tentacle-rape fetish to us.

Popular Japanese actor Kyousuke Hamao literally quit the acting business because he was exhausted by his fangirls insisting he was in a relationship with a male costar.
This was a little hypocritical, given that his success in film came through a little series known as TAKUMI-KUN. Hamao played the titular Takumi and became the poster-child for BL, essentially. He obviously didn’t consider where his bread was buttered before taking his leave of the acting world. True that there’s no future in BL (you instantly age-out of those roles when you hit 35) but some of Hamao’s fans would have followed his subsequent projects.
He even held a press conference to announce his retirement at the tender age of 29; it was all very MARY! and he was roundly mocked for his histrionics.

That was a craze?
I thought it was weird little DL-meme, perpetuated by a handful of fan-gays here.
Didn’t most of the female ‘Hobbit’ fans only have eyes for Armitage, anyhow?
by Anonymous | reply 190 | April 14, 2018 7:25 PM |
[R190]
Really Armitage? IMO all female Hobbit fans fell for with L Pace and went crazy after the second Hobbit movie. First it was only shipping but somehow fangurls found out about LP & RA being a couple. I don't remember the details though...Anyways, RichLee did not only exist on DL. I am a huge Tolkien fan and googled Lee Pace ( plus Thranduil) back then. German google revealed many, many , many Tumblr & Reddit links next to DL threads. Made me laugh but after a while it got kinda creepy. I always assumed Pace and Armitage were fooling around with their fans but according to DL RichLee split up in 2016 (lol). Fandom is one thing but stalking real peoples friends and family is intrusive. It still doesn't make any sense to me.

Agree with R13. Straight woman here. No boyfriend ever in high school. Good guy friend who was gay. Liked him because he was smart, funny, nice and very nice to me. Hello to Frank if you're out there.

R187 what shit would have hit the fan?
Do you mean if an American male actor quit the business because he was sick of negative fan attention? Or just if an actor held a conference about it?

I’m still giving my HS best-friend shit about her faulty gaydar.
Her crush back then was the nelliest closet-case in the city, but of course my bestie couldn’t see this and fell for him because he was witty & stylish & popular & slender...in ways I think she’d have liked to be. We found out last year that he’d only come out recently, after spending all of College trying miserably to date a woman. While it’s still hilarious to mock my friend about her lame crush on a gay guy, can she be blamed if types that like aren’t out? The oblivious people in this life need to be told what’s what, sometimes.
Even funnier is that she had no idea that me and a couple of her friends were leaning toward permanent adult lesbianism in our HS years, and it was a shock to her when we all came out in College.

Their excuse is that if they don't want fans to find things then they need to make their accounts private.

Why do some like blacks??? Because they are too ugly to get straight white boy. Why does Melissa Gilbert only date gays. Do u think she could have got Tom Cruise or rob Lowe if they were straight? Yoy don't need gay dark, just look for mismatched couples. Ugly girl with hot boyfriend means boy is gay.

R184 Mariah put that lying cockroach in his place, and did it with humor & fun.
She never wanted anything to do with him seriously and he should have respected that like a gentleman, instead of running his mouth and stirring up misogynistic hatred and barking to the press.

R185 I loved the Takumi series!
In Japan, the target market of yaio books are women. Most mangaka are women and target market is women. There was a Japanese researcher who talked about the appeal of yaio to women, one of the reasons she gave was about control of the relationship where the women identified themselves as the seme (top)
A publishing house in US tried to bring some titles in tankubon form (book form). They did a focus group among gays who hated the yaio manga. Then found that the target market are women

I write gay smut and romance fiction for a living, and work with other authors in the genre on occasion, and that market is driven almost entirely by hetero women.

It was really awkward watching Ellen Page and her friend listening to an audio book of some manga on Gaycation. The girls laughing at it just made it even worse.

r203 Probably. I don’t have much insight into other romance sub-genres, of which there are many.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | January 10, 2019 2:14 PM |
Heterosexual men can't understand women's needs and fantasies and that causes a disconnection between men and women sexually and romantically. Heterosexual women have their own version of what they want in a man but heterosexual men fail to meet that expectation. Women see gay couples see the connection they don't get with heterosexual men and they crave that. Heterosexual women project their ideal heterosexual relationship on gay couples through fanfiction.
Now women don't really understand gay couples either; we are men and our needs are those of men, but they tend to idealise the connection they see in gay couples.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | January 10, 2019 2:43 PM |
r206 You’d be surprised how many successful smut and romance writers are actually (very clever) hetero men. Especially smut, but romance as well (which is certainly dominated by herero women, with quite a few gay men and lesbians as well). I know it surprised me.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | January 10, 2019 2:48 PM |
Certainly, heterosexual men are not deprived of romantic sensibility, although most men are not writers. The problem is the kind of socialisation heterosexual boys/men experience that is man-centric with no focus on women's feelings and needs. Many heterosexual men think women will love them if they prove to be horny animals in bed, that that will impress women; they are thinking about their own needs and fantasies only. Not that women cannot enjoy rough sex but heterosexual men prioritise their own idea of women instead of asking and come to a middle common ground that creates understanding between them. R207
