Captain Kangaroo is next. That set was a nasty nest of sexual vipers.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 20, 2017 9:11 PM |
So he admits it
[quote]“It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken. “I have learned a great deal as a result of these events, and I hope others will too. All of us, including me, are coming to a newer and deeper recognition of the pain caused by conduct in the past, and have come to a profound new respect for women and their lives.”
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 20, 2017 9:15 PM |
Wasn't there some story about him years ago?
He was dating a rich woman I think and was stepping out on her and they broke up and got back together. I can't remember if it involved sexual harassment although back then it probably wouldn't be classified that way and he'd be thought of as some type of Lothario.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 20, 2017 9:16 PM |
Agreed. I'm sick of this crap.
It wouldn't surprise me if there is more and more fatigue against this kind of shit. And surprisingly, it will also be by women, because they have a tendency to turn on each other... eventually.
ENOUGH.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 20, 2017 9:16 PM |
Yeah, he thought it was mutual because it is sooo common for 21-37 yr olds to want a 52-65 yr old. Maybe the 37-52. Maybe. But somehow I think it was more of a 37/65.
Jesus. If they were being smiley and ingratiating, it just MIGHT be because you had power over their careers and were a know bipolar asshat.

Journalists on Twitter are saying his name started popping up immediately after Weinstein. So everyone knew about him and it was just a matter of time. Here's Rose's statement.
And those saying they're tired of these revelations can just go fuck themselves. There are plenty of other threads out there, douchebags.

I think it's good to spotlight these serial predators since they are responsible for an outsized number of the sexual harassment complaints.
Plenty of guys are capable of behaving normally. You can tell Charlie is abnormal because he's admitting he can't read or just ignores social cues.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 20, 2017 9:21 PM |
He's been doing this for a long time. I remember a NYT story on him from years ago.

Ha! Was just about to post that, R17. Well... this isn't some isolated incident and both he and his longtime producer have admitted it's true, so... he's finished, right? Do we think PBS and CBS are both going to cut ties with him?

What could be the reason that two different networks kept Charlie Rose on the air for all these years?
Was he so SPECTACULAR and IRREPLACEABLE?
He always seemed mediocre to me. There must be something in him I'm not seeing.

I was just thinking this morning, please God, don’t let anyone accuse Charlie Rose...I would’ve imagined in his prime Charlie Rose must’ve been a great seducer of women, he seems like he would be a great lover of women. But harasser? Abuser? Why would he have to do that? I think some of these women are just humourless.

I'm a gay man and I have been sexually harassed by older gross trollish men dozens of times. I would be at a club or bar and some old troll would be trying to get with me and god damn is that gross. I just thought that it was normal to have entitled older gross troll guys try to get with you if you are young and hot and it was just a nuisance I had to put up with...
Getting sexually harassed by nasty old trollish sex pests is normal if you are young and hot right?? Who hasn't had to deal with nasty old troll sex pests? This shit is normal.

He was supposed to be interviewing an distinguished English acting dame and he was harassing her with inane stupid questions.

According to Yashar Ali of New York Magazine, there will be another expose about Charlie Rose coming out soon.
It's unlikely he will be able to survive this:

by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 20, 2017 9:57 PM |

More and more men are refusing to be alone in the room with women in business situations. AND there is a new trend for contracts that state, more or less, that this is a Fun Zone ala a TV show dealing with adult themes and sexuality and if you don't like it, don't work there (and you have to sign that you understand this and will not sue). You happy, you silly cunts?

Now where are the stories about the helpless toddlers who had zero chance to kick ANY man to the curb, who got used as currency and never ever had a shot at career growth or ever had a choice to perform or be fired. Will we ever see the truly disgusting ones come down? How about they start with Washington DC first. There's a big long career for any media group that has the guts to start that avalanche.

I'm still getting over Halperin. What's their problem? They behave this way because it's a function of "the boy's club". I bet Charlie thought he'd never get caught, his importance in the hierarchy would serve as his protective mantle. But the real truth is "the gals" are fair game.
A lot of these women were desperate to keep their jobs and not "put a foot wrong" by "squealing." And Charlie and all his male colleagues wrote the rules and played these women like violins.
Charlie Rose: I have lost so much respect for you.

I used to watch his show because of the guests, not him. He was always fake and fawning, asking empty questions.
Watched the clips upthread of the CBS morning show. Looks stupid. Does everything have to turn into Kelly Ripa or Howard Stern? I thought they were going for a slightly more intelligent news show.

Here’s the bottom line: pretty much, an overwhelming majority of straight men have either said something , or has acted out inappropriately with women, at one time or another. Period, end of story. Is it right, do I support the behavior? No, of course not. But we are going to be outing men for the rest of eternity, because this has always gone on, in every industry.
Your fathers are straight? Then you can bet your ass he did something inappropriate. Brothers, husbands, sons, uncles, nephews, grandfathers? Same.
Let’s get the conversation going toward the solutions.
The backlash on this is going to hurt women more than they know. No, it’s not fair, but it will happen.

During the 80’s, I had a major crush on Charlie Rose and John Tesh. I was completely into tall, slim WASP type men in those days, and for some lucky reason, those are the types of men who seemed to find me attractive too. The sex was usually disappointing. Now I wonder what I ever saw in them. These days it’s Latino and Black men I find attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | November 20, 2017 10:55 PM |
Charlie Rose must have been the most boring interviewer ever.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | November 20, 2017 10:57 PM |
R97, what is there to hate about Charlie Rose? The man is as remarkable as a piece of lint?
The one thing that I enjoyed about Rose’s Show was that he got people on there that you would never see interviewed, otherwise. Authors, especially. Writers are rarely interviewed at length on television, so that was nice.
He’s had all of the big names on there, in many different fields. If you can think up a name, he’s probably interviewed them, from scientists, to politicians, to musicians.
The end of an era in so many ways in the last few months. What concerns me is that I’m not at all convinced that we will be coming out of this as better people, with better environments for us all.
A majority of what we are seeing truly is a witch hunt. Even if it did happen, it’s not coming out in order to protect women and make the workplace safer for them. That’s not what this is. This is 100% political now. I hope you all are able to recognize that, regardless of your feelings or sex. This is not coming out to protect women. This is coming out in order to hurt the “liberal” MSM.
If you don’t understand that, then fuck off, please.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | November 20, 2017 11:03 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 106 | November 20, 2017 11:07 PM |
Yes, R102, because the liberal MSM are absolutely the only ones to be doing this. Besides, liberal in the US is still very much centre-right for us in Europe, so not much love lost there.
As for this interviewer, he was boring as fuck. He interviewed one of my favourite musicians, who indeed doesn't do a lot of TV interviews, and I couldn't watch the whole thing it was so boring. So I don't really see what was so cool about that. With somebody else doing the interview I might have watched the whole thing (repeatedly) and have enjoyed myself. As it stands, it's just a fog. And it was a pretty long interview, too. So boring.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | November 20, 2017 11:08 PM |

There you go, that's all you need to know about Charlie Rose, and about why women never dare speaking up when abused : they lose their fucking job when they do.
This culture that allows this treatment of half the population needs to FUCKING STOP.
Expose every single one of those motherfuckers and throw *them* out of employment.
That shit makes me sick.

[quote] A woman then in her 30s who was at the Bellport home in 2010 to discuss a job opportunity said Rose appeared before her in an untethered bathrobe, naked underneath. She said he subsequently attempted to put his hands down her pants. She said she pushed his hands away and wept throughout the encounter.
Awful. Just like Weinstein..

He needs to be locked up. Psycho
*************************
At the pool, Rose dangled his legs in the water and then said that he needed to change because his pant legs were wet. He returned wearing a white bathrobe, which was open; he wore nothing underneath.
“I thought, I’m doomed,” she said. “I was completely panicked. In retrospect, I thought of a million things I could have done.”
She said she was not intoxicated — Rose had drunk his wine and then hers at the restaurant — but said he appeared to be. It was nearly 2 a.m. and she was exhausted, she said. She also said she felt alone and powerless. It was the middle of the night, they were on his secluded property, and she did not know how to drive.
“I started talking in this feeble and compulsive way,” she said. “I started talking about power, how the abuse of power can be. He completely lost it. ‘What are you talking about? That’s certainly not the case.’ ”
She said he then tried to put a hand down her pants.
“By the time he touched me the first time, he was already very angry,” she said. “I was scared, and I was also kind of frozen.”
After that, her memory is “hazy,” she said. They ended up in his bedroom.
“I really, honestly, I’ve tried so hard, especially recently, since I’ve been thinking about this, to try to remember what happened between sitting by the pool and being in his bed,” she said. “I have no recollection of how we went from here to there. I do remember I was crying the entire time.”

I had a similar situation where I was stuck in the Hollywood Hills without my car. PBS is basically the Land Where Time Stood Still and they would have kept him until he was 100 years old with dementia because they're so afraid of change, so I'm glad this has forced the issue.

[quote] Wasn't there some story about him years ago? He was dating a rich woman I think and was stepping out on her and they broke up and got back together.
The story I heard about Rose was that back in the day he had a regular girlfriend he kept on the downlow. She wasn't rich or famous or part of society. She was just a regular person. But Charlie being the climber he has always been never took her anywhere or made it public. Maybe he convinced her it was about their privacy. Whatever. As it turns out he started escorting Amanda Burden - and you don't get much fancier society wise than Amanda Burden - but Rose was cheating in his real girlfriend with Burden. I can just hear his excuses - now now it's just professional dates. You're my true love that I want to protect from the public prying eyes. I imagine once he he was really in he segued to Amanda. No idea what happened to the girlfriend.
I always knew Charlie was a twat. Yes, he had fabulous guests that are hard to find elsewhere. A certain amount of power and respect come with that abilty to draw them to your table - rightfully so. But I wanted to hear THEM talk - not Charlie pontificate for a 15 minute monologue and then say to his guest, "Don't you agree with me?" I would end up screaming at the TV to shut up and let them talk. So I stopped watching him for about 10 years and didn't return until there was something I wanted to watch. Admittedly he was much better - still interrupting, still about him but a definite improvement. I was able to watch again and I have to give it to him these are truly great shows with the kind of guests an informed public needs to hear - and needs to hear at length. For instance, his series of shows on the brain are incredible sources of fascinating information and even hope for those suffering from mental issues and brain damage, The morning shows are useless junk when it comes to interviews or exploring topics. I have refused to watch them for a very long time now.
I have watched some very good stand-ins for Rose when he was off. They are usually quiet and reserved but have excellent interview skills. I hope they can continue to attract a high quality of guests - especially the political and business ones.

I don't know about a backlash....if an employer decides not to hire women, eventually the statistics will cause an investigation and lawsuits. However, you just might find some employers hiring older women in their 40s and 50s.

He ruined this interview with Hillary by constantly interrupting and talking over her. No respect.
But I do think he is "on the spectrum". In his interviews he laughs at the wrong time and keeps changing the subject. Don't know how he's gone so far in the business being so clueless.
Time for a new host with a table and a black backdrop.

One thing about Charlie, he puts his whole face into an interview. His facial expressions are so earnest, like he's not just paying attention with his brain, but with his nose, cheeks, and eyebrows. It's odd. I watched his show sometimes but was often bored.

Did this all start with Trump advocating grabbing pussies? We have a self-acknowledged pussy grabber right at the very top and the younger generations are apparently fed up with the patriarchy, good ol'boys club. This may be the only good result of Trump the sexual predator holding the highest office in the land.

The fatigue assholes arrived early. This happened with racism, homophobia, and now sexual assault. So, if you're so fucking tired of hearing about it, then do something to fix the issue. The answer is NEVER, "I'm now bored by this so let's move on."

This is no surprise to me. I met him at a party for the US Open back in 2004 and he was drunk off his arse, acting the fool. He literally looked like the line in that Carly SImon song - wearing the ascot etc. He was bought and sold years ago. Corporate shill and dis-info specialist. His take on the Kennedy assassination was telling. He believed the Warren Report because his bosses told him to.

I was born in 80. Common knowledge to not be creepy to anybody you work with, period, up or down the chain of command. No excuse. I roll my eyes at so much millennial bullshit, like ott consent and campus rape hysteria, but this is legit.
I was a fan of CBS This Morning because I liked the chemistry of the three hosts. Gayle was the funny everyman, Nora the shrewd and smart overachiever, and Charlie was the esteemed straight man they played off. I stopped watching after some of the SJW nonsense leaked onto the show. Like, just one small instance, when they all flipped out on John McEnroe because he didn't say Williams was the greatest tennis player in the world or something (how could she be if 200 men could beat her any given Sunday?) Never mind all ll the racism hysteria they peddled like every other show.
That said, this thread could do without the anti-white, anti-gay, anti-straight and anti-male comments. It's okay to be white.
Charlie winging it off recaps and over using his face reminds me of the blond guy from Broadcast News. Or was it Network. I confuse those two.
As for good long form interviewers, Dave Ruben takes the cake. He's the reigning king. He actually listens. He covers difficult topics. He even, gasp, changes his mind about things right in front of you (which will limit his viewership because most people find that abhorrent since the world lost its color and we're all stuck on the Kansas farm.)
by Anonymous | reply 264 | November 21, 2017 12:50 PM |

I guess this cookie is no dope. Distract, become the martyr again when drug charges are filed, and cry that "they" are trying to shut you up.

R293 Amber Tamblyn implied - inadvertently I'm sure - that Hillary being president would have resulted in the women staying silent because anyone bringing up accusations of sexual assaults would have brought attention to Bill's perverted history and thus been hushed up by the White House just as Hillary did her best to bury accusations against Bill in the past. Therefore it's Trump's "fault" that these women came forward with their accusations against Hollywood's elite. She was trying to say that Trump being elected made women angry enough to come forward with the truth but she didn't realize what her "logic" said about these same women (if they were willing to stay quiet just because Hillary was in office) or Hillary's protection of Bill.

Exactly the problem, R339. Thankfully, the court of public opinion isn't worth much. Watched Dustin Hoffman's latest on NETFLIX last night and didn't remember the accusations against him until long after it was over -- and that only happened a few weeks ago. Soon all of this will be old news -- except in the back rooms of corporations that will be working overtime to make sure it doesn't happen again. Sorry, bitch all you want, but women will be the ones who pay for it.

The gays who are blaming the women for this: Where have you been, darlings? Have you not seen with your own eyes a young woman in your office or at a show or wherever you work getting perved on by an older man? How can you not see it?
I saw it happen to a colleague once and once the guy was done literally leaning on her from behind (pressing his front against her back), I said to her "THAT WAS SEXUAL HARASSMENT!" She gave me a wry smile and said she didn't mind, that's just the way some older guys treat younger women. I pressed her a little more about it but it soon dawned on me that this was very much her business.
That's the way she handled it, but do you really think that's the only valid response? Can't she also say, "that makes me uncomfortable" and if he persists, dime him out to HR or whomever? I don't get the blaming the woman shit I'm reading here.

You know, these women who are marching forward are not heroic. They were cowards and should be held responsible for not speaking up when it happened to them that first time. Had they stepped up bravely, a lot of other women would have been spared their assaults or harassments. These women coming forward now are accomplices. That's right. Under the guise of fear or cowardice, they allowed the man's behavior to continue and, as such, are also responsible for the abuse of his many other victims.

I am a man. Was sexually assaulted by another student on my ivy league campus. AT KNIFEPOINT. He was black and on full scholarship. It was the 80's. Nobody in administration could deal with what I said, at all. Delay delay delay. Then nothing. I should have gone to the police.
Oh but wait. I was in grad school in the 90s. Another Ivy league campus. I was physically assaulted on the side walk by a gang of black youth. Bashed my face in in, laughing. Town gown. I was a pretty boy, rich looking. (not rich)
A black cop picked me up and took me to the hospital. A few days later, i went to the police, they did JACK SHIT. The black cops said "I will have a talk with them I know them form the youth centre."
I was flat broke and could not afford lawyers.
You think the women who did not "report" are cowards but you don't even know how many people actually reported such things, and met a brick wall of "we don't want to know, we don't want to see. "
Now people are obliged to listen to I hope more victims, no matter how many years ago, speak up and SMEAR THESE MOTHER FUCKING ASSHOLES and it sticks to them.
I would try again about my attacker in college but somehow the lord moves in mysterious ways and somebody got him on something and he was murdered in prison. Fucker.

The straight white man has been using and abusing female employees forever --/ and women were/are trained to look the other way.
This absolutely shows that in general it is the straight white MAn who is much more frequently a predator then a gay man or a minority,
Why ???? Because these assholes are accustomed to excercising unfettered power over their subordinates.

Three more women from CBS.
The three CBS employees spoke on condition of anonymity, reports CBS News correspondent Bianna Golodryga.
One says she's not ready for details of her allegations to become public. The other two described unwanted encounters with Rose at work-related events. One claims he groped her rear. The other says he grabbed her inappropriately and whispered a sexual innuendo in her ear. Our CBS News communication office issued a statement saying: "This is new information. Beyond that, we have no comment at this time."
Former "Charlie Rose" show producer Rebecca Carroll tells us she witnessed inappropriate behavior, but "there wasn't anybody to talk to," she said. "There wasn't anybody to tell."

I am female and realize it is of course not "all men" who are like this.
It is high-time this type of power abuse ended. So glad to see the air being cleared of this way of interacting between those "in power" and those who perceive themselves to be not "in power."

Both Walters and Rose were the worst ever. Good riddance to both of them. So many wonderful people they had to talk to and there was nothing there but ad copy.
You know why there are no famous good interviewer's? Because it is totally about the person being interviewed and therefore the interviewer has to be self-effacing and then remove themselves from the equation. Maybe the closest was Dick Cavett when he was on PBS.
After 10 minutes Rose would put you to sleep and Walters inane questions made you want to beat her with whatever tree she felt like that day.

I'm glad you mentioned that R431. I could barely watch him with his shirt collars flipping up - ALWAYS. Did this mean he did a rush job of getting dressed because he'd just molested a female co-worker?

He doesn't seem to be r439.

Josh Elliott today. Just one more life destroyed by Charlie Rose.

[quote]Do we believe the accusers of Charlie Rose because he isn't an elected Democratic member of Congress?
Fixed.

Will he commit suicide?

I really don't understand how he was still working at age 75 for 2 different networks when he was so TERRIBLE at his job and had this sleazy reputation. He also looked awful on camera.
I could understand if this was years ago but his case really does seem like from another time. He must know where the bodies are buried on several people.

At some point r449, one becomes an "institution" just by habit, I guess.. He really has a distinctive look, voice and "brand", however lame ass, and old people love him. He will be a social pariah now. I've seen him at small private home dinners with the mucky mucks here in NYC with Amanda Burden, guzzling red wine and getting loquacious and glassy-eyed. Not pretty, but as far as I knew, harmless. I guess not! He's DONE!

Why do you think that, R450? Epstein and Allen have been embraced?

"You know why there are no famous good interviewer's?"
Howard Stern is a very good interviewer, but as far as TV... yeah.

The ONLY home I've ever seen Woody Allen at is Santiago Calatrava's. His wife Robertita Calatrava is....well, let's just say I think she enjoys some level of reflected fame around her. Plus, bringing up Allen who has been accused by ONE deranged actress of something she didn't witness after she was spurned is really not the same thing as Charlie Rose, though I assume to you they are analogous.

"You know why there are no famous good interviewer's?"
Oh dear. What's with the apostrophe, illiterate one?

Leonard Lopate on WNYC is a good interviewer.
I don't want them to get a celebrity. I want someone smart, well-read.

I am 53 and I LOVED Charlie Rose for many years. In fact, I went to see a live taping of his show at the 92nd street Y many years ago and his guest was one of my favorite actors ....................KEIN SPACEY. I think that night now and I just shake my head in disbelief.
Charlie always had wonderful shows devote to people never shown on tv - authors not shown elsewhere - plus intelligent, comprehensive hours at the Met or the Frick going through their exhibitions. Who will do that now?

R456, not to bash on you, but in many cultural ways you were just misguided for a long time. I'm 14 years younger and got KS number for a long time (since American Beauty, which I hated - did you like that piece of crap movie?). As for Charlie Rose, he managed to put me to sleep with a single video interviewing one of my favourite artists - a feat not achieved by many.
I did have a major fight with a uni acquaintance over American Beauty, actually. We were both around 22 at the time. She must be a Trump voter by now. The irony is she married an openly gay guy and they have "threesomes" because she likes to see guys fuck together. She is basically her husband's maid and cook, he brings guys home from wherever he finds them on a regular basis. Socially they're working-middle-class. Very racist. She can be very generous if she believes you can be trusted. Will freak out on you if you haven't called for a week.

Don't hold back, R453, where is your ode to Epstein, Allen's buddy?
by Anonymous | reply 458 | November 27, 2017 12:52 PM |
R454 I know that's wrong but sometimes apostrophes get in there-I don't know why but it's been happening since I started reading the internet and I sometimes don't catch them when proof-reading.
Also we're/where, their/there, no/know... I swear these mistakes never happened before. Lame I no but their you have it.

[quote]Straight men often confuse regular friendliness with sexual interest. I'm sure these women who worked for him were very friendly and eager to please him, which in his mind meant they wanted him sexually.

[quote]R88 The backlash on this is going to hurt women more than they know. No, it’s not fair, but it will happen.
Another way of placing the onus on women. Congrats.
And it doesn't just "hurt women." (Nice way to see women as The Other and completely separate from you.) When people are treated sleazily it hurts ALL of us. Because it's disgusting, and they're our family, neighbors, loved ones, and fellow human beings.
I'm sorry you don't feel that.

[quote] Straight men often confuse regular friendliness with sexual interest.
Some years ago, there was a story I read about a retail chain that wanted to improve customer service. In the pre-debit card days when you had to give your credit card to the cashier, the company wanted the customer service rep to personally thank the customer by name. For instance, a man pays by credit card, the cashier sees the name on the card and responds at the end of the transaction, "Thank-you Jason, have a great day." There were no problems with female customs; however, the men, not knowing that this was a policy started interpreting the personal greetings as "come-ons" and would ask for phone numbers and dates, etc. This became such a problem that the store had a revolt among the female customer service reps and had to terminate the policy.
