Pickettywitch - Is this what the gays listened to in 1970?

I would have totally blown the bass player.

Never heard of this group.

Must've been popular only in Merry Olde England.

Kind of lame-o for American tastes, don't you know?

by Anonymousreply 1November 13, 2017 4:21 PM

This is like a French & Saunders parody of Burt Bacharach.

by Anonymousreply 2November 13, 2017 4:52 PM

Her voice kinda sounds like Miss Ross.

by Anonymousreply 3November 13, 2017 4:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 4November 13, 2017 5:44 PM

I like her consistency; being off-key for every note.

This wasn't their hit.

You might like Arrival if you like British pop of this era.

by Anonymousreply 14January 7, 2018 6:10 PM

Never heard of them but they seem sweet. I'm off to YouTube to search for me. Agree about the bass player.

by Anonymousreply 15January 7, 2018 6:17 PM

Their name sounds familiar. I like her voice, the song does sound very Burt Bachrach. I've always enjoyed UK pop and rock.

My older brother was into all things British, especially British pop, rock and folk music, he'd buy the weekly UK music papers, the Melody Maker and the NME, religiously every week. He went to high school in Manhattan, he tracked down these music papers while in the city.

This music papers really opened up a whole different world for me, especially as so much US pop music was garbage. As a kid I was more into US R'n'B and jazz than pop music. UK pop always seemed so much better and sophisticated. The musicians also looked better than US bands. Hendrix had to go to England to get famous, do you think his wild outfits would have been accepted had he attempted his unique style in the US before the UK? It took the UK to to discover him.

by Anonymousreply 16January 7, 2018 6:27 PM

I was thinking Burt Bachrach too.

by Anonymousreply 17January 7, 2018 6:31 PM

I think they're tremendous!

Lead singer Polly Brown left for a solo career. Her replacement was the one who had to live in a bubble. Then she died.

Polly is still alive. She had a Top 20 hit in the USA called "Up In a Puff of Smoke."

I want to know what fabulous queens did the lead singers heavy smoky eye and complex hair. Amazing! And don’t even get me started on her frock.

This female singer looks like she would have been perfect for "Rock Follies"!

by Anonymousreply 36June 7, 2019 2:58 AM

She sounds like Diana Ross in the Up in a Puff of Smoke song! wtf?

by Anonymousreply 37June 7, 2019 3:40 AM

R37 that wasn’t Diana Ross, it was Polly Brown, the lead singer of Pickettwitch as a solo act.

by Anonymousreply 38June 7, 2019 4:38 AM

how fabulous!

by Anonymousreply 39July 23, 2020 11:08 PM

It's *always* the bass player.

I remember seeing the Cardigans and the bass player was so hot, so tall, and had the biggest hands and a big bulge. I was so transfixed, I almost came in my pants.

by Anonymousreply 40July 23, 2020 11:12 PM
