I Love You, Daddy is a 2017 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Louis C.K. and starring C.K., Chloë Grace Moretz, Pamela Adlon, John Malkovich, Rose Byrne, Charlie Day, and Helen Hunt. It is C.K.'s first film as director since Pootie Tang, released sixteen years prior. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2017. It is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017, by The Orchard.
A successful TV writer-producer, Glen Topher (Louis C.K.), tries to prevent his 17-year-old daughter (Chloe Grace Moretz) from falling for a lecherous 68-year-old filmmaker (John Malkovich).
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 9, 2017 5:11 PM |
Critical reception[edit] On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 57% based on 21 reviews, with an average rating of 6/10.[10] On Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating to reviews, the film has a weighted average score of 69 out of 100, based on reviews from 10 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[11] The Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw gave the film a four-star review, calling it a "very funny and recklessly provocative homage to Woody Allen, channelling his masterpiece Manhattan."[12] Variety critic Owen Gleiberman was less positive, saying, "the film meanders, and its second half is shapeless" although he praised the dialogue and cast.[13]
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 9, 2017 5:12 PM |
The film pays homage to the cinematic work of Woody Allen, particularly the 1979 film Manhattan. In the Allen film, a 17-year-old girl (Mariel Hemingway) begins a romantic relationship with a 42-year-old man played by Allen.
A common criticism of I Love You, Daddy is that the film parallels that the long-standing sexual abuse allegations against Allen.
"We’re at the bleeding edge of 'That’s not OK to do now,' but those people are still around," C.K. said about dealing with the controversial topics dealt with in the film. "That’s a very interesting line to be on.”

He did have a bit on his show about how "f*ggot" actually was not okay to use. It was kind of a mea culpa, I think.
There was something in his most recent stand-up that really made my eyebrows raise, something about how men rape and kill and start wars but it's women who are the REAL evil, because they hurt feelings. I was thinking he was heading toward that whole "Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them" thing, but he never did. He just presented it all in a standard "women be bitches" trope.

Portnoy's Complaint by Philip Roth
Portnoy is a horrible character, obsessed by his penis. I have never found toilet humour particularly funny and so you must judge my opinion in that light. if you have heard of Ross O'Kelly Carroll then this is the jewish equivalent. Ross is the cliche Dublin 4, Alex the New Jersey jew. Sitting on his physchiatrist couch bemoaning his parents. His mother threatened him with the knife if he won't eat. He spends his teen and adult years either masturbating anywhere and anytime or with the fair Protestant college girls or his dumb but sexually insatiable model.
Portnoy is condesending and obsessed, unlikeable in a Woody Allen style obsession with self and sex. The novel is dated as no doubt it was titillatingly scandalous of its time but frankly it is boring. The long rambling rant eventually grates. This book would be better as a novella, the theme and characters are interesting to start with but the problem is that it becomes repetitious and boring. It wanders back and forward from childhood to love affair, from Monkey the model to Pumpkin or Pilgrim the debutantes.
Portnoy repeats himself and becomes gratingly tedious. I suffered to the end, only so I could justify my rant, and gained nothing from it. Judging by the number of positive reviews here I am perhaps missing the point. For me who also hates Woody Allen films this is toilet humour at its worst. If you like the images of a teenage boy humping raw liver, his sisters used underwear and just about anything else while his mother hammers on the bathroom door demanding to see his stool then read on.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 9, 2017 5:39 PM |
He's one of those people like Lars von Trier whose work I respect (In Louis' case, I found his comedy series on FX very funny) but who are total creeps in real life and who I would never want to meet or get to know outside of their on-screen output.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 9, 2017 5:39 PM |
I agree with R31. As long as she wasn't an active predator, I don't think it is reasonable to tar every person who has worked with these predators or ignored the rumors.
Hollywood's main purpose is to be a safe haven for predators. The art produced is just a cover for all this illicit activity such as child sex rings. So basically everyone in Hollywood could be considered "tainted".
But Americans in general can also be considered "tainted". Americans mostly didn't say a thing to Barbara Walters when she told Corey Feldman he was "hurting" Hollywood by talking about pedophilia.
We are all kind of complicit because we lived in a culture that was okay with ignoring these things. We have to forgive ourselves and strive to be better. But we have to deal with the actual predators.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 9, 2017 5:58 PM |
Honestly I hope Adlon's career DOES suffer because of it. She has worked so closely with him over the years it would be absolutely insane to think she was ignorant to the rumors or to his actual behavior. I would be willing to bet that she was 100% aware of it and probably thought it was funny as she secretly hates women herself.

Louis C.K. film premiere cancelled and actor pulled from late night ahead of NY Times story about his personal life
The premiere for Louis C.K's new film 'I Love You Daddy' has been cancelled just hours before the director and star of the film was set to walk the red carpet on Thursday. This unexpected move comes as The New York Times prepares to release a story about the comedian, who has been accused of sexual misconduct in the past. Louis C.K. was also pulled from a planned appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday according to The Hollywood Reporter, with William H. Macy being asked to fill in for the actor.
The 50-year-old actor is the father of two teenage daughters with his ex-wife of 13 years, painter Alix Bailey who he divorced in 2008. He has cited Woody Allen and Bill Cosby as two of his comedy idols.

Louis C.K. Crossed a Line Into Sexual Misconduct, 5 Women Say
In 2002, a Chicago comedy duo, Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, landed their big break: a chance to perform at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo. When Louis C.K. invited them to hang out in his hotel room for a nightcap after their late-night show, they did not think twice. The bars were closed and they wanted to celebrate. He was a comedian they admired. The women would be together. His intentions seemed collegial.
As soon as they sat down in his room, still wrapped in their winter jackets and hats, Louis C.K. asked if he could take out his penis, the women said.
They thought it was a joke and laughed it off. “And then he really did it,” Ms. Goodman said in an interview with The New York Times. “He proceeded to take all of his clothes off, and get completely naked, and started masturbating.”
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 9, 2017 6:50 PM |
NYT:
At the same time, Louis C.K. has also boosted the careers of women, and is sometimes viewed as a feminist by fans and critics. But Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov said that when they told others about the incident in the Colorado hotel room, they heard that Louis C.K.’s manager was upset that they were talking about it openly. The women feared career repercussions. Louis C.K.’s manager, Dave Becky, was adamant in an email that he “never threatened anyone.”
For comedians, the professional environment is informal: profanity and raunch that would be far out of line in most workplaces are common, and personal foibles — the weirder the better — are routinely mined for material. But Louis C.K.’s behavior was abusive, the women said.
“I think the line gets crossed when you take all your clothes off and start masturbating,” Ms. Wolov said.

Ms. Corry, a comedian, writer and actress, has long felt haunted by her run-in with Louis C.K. In 2005, she was working as a performer and producer on a television pilot — a big step in her career — when Louis C.K., a guest star, approached her as she was walking to the set. “He leaned close to my face and said, ‘Can I ask you something?’ I said, ‘Yes,’” Ms. Corry said in a written statement to The New York Times. “He asked if we could go to my dressing room so he could masturbate in front of me.” Stunned and angry, Ms. Corry said she declined, and pointed out that he had a daughter and a pregnant wife. “His face got red,” she recalled, “and he told me he had issues.”
Word quickly reached the show’s executive producers, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, who both confirmed the incident. “What happened to Rebecca on that set was awful,” Ms. Cox said in an email, adding that she felt “outrage and shock.”

A fifth woman, who spoke on condition of anonymity to protect her family’s privacy because she has not been publicly linked to the incident with Louis C.K., also has disturbing memories about an incident with the comedian. In the late ’90s, she was working in production at “The Chris Rock Show” when Louis C.K., a writer and producer there, repeatedly asked her to watch him masturbate, she said. She was in her early 20s and went along with his request, but later questioned his behavior.
“It was something that I knew was wrong,” said the woman, who described sitting in Louis C.K.’s office while he masturbated in his desk chair during a workday, other colleagues just outside the door. “I think the big piece of why I said yes was because of the culture,” she continued. “He abused his power.” A co-worker at “The Chris Rock Show,” who also wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that the woman told him about the experience soon after it happened.

Ms. Schachner, a writer, illustrator and performer, admired Louis C.K.’s work. They had met in the comedy scene; Ms. Schachner’s former boyfriend was a comedy writer who had worked with Louis C.K. In 2003, when she called Louis C.K. with an invitation to her show, he said he was at work in an office as a writer on the series “Cedric the Entertainer Presents,” she recalled. Their conversation quickly moved from the personal — Louis C.K. had seen photos of her on her boyfriend’s desk, he said, and told her he thought she was cute — to “unprofessional and inappropriate,” Ms. Schachner said.
She said she heard the blinds coming down. Then he slowly started telling her his sexual fantasies, breathing heavily and talking softly. She realized he was masturbating, and was dumbfounded. The call went on for several minutes, even though, Ms. Schachner said, “I definitely wasn’t encouraging it.” But she didn’t know how to end it, either. “You want to believe it’s not happening,” she said. A friend, Stuart Harris, confirmed that Ms. Schachner had described the call to him in 2003.
For years afterward, Ms. Schachner said, she felt angry and betrayed by an artist she looked up to. And she wondered what she could have done differently. “I felt very ashamed,” she said.

During Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov’s surreal visit to Louis C.K.’s Aspen hotel room, they said they were holding onto each other, screaming and laughing in shock, as Louis C.K. masturbated in a chair. “We were paralyzed,” Ms. Goodman said. After he ejaculated on his stomach, they said, they fled. He called after them: “He was like, ‘Which one is Dana and which one is Julia?’” Ms. Goodman recalled. Afterward, they ran into Charna Halpern, the owner of influential improv theaters in Los Angeles and Chicago, where Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov performed, and relayed what had happened. “I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what to tell them to do,” said Ms. Halpern. Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov decided against going to the police, unsure whether what happened was criminal, but felt they had to respond in some way “because something crazy happened to us,” Ms. Goodman said.
Hoping that outrage would build against Louis C.K., and also to shame him, they began telling others about the incident the next day. But many people seemed to recoil, they said. “Guys were backing away from us,” Ms. Wolov said. Barely 24 hours after they left Louis C.K.’s hotel, “we could already feel the backlash.”
Soon after, they said they understood from their managers that Mr. Becky, Louis C.K’s manager, wanted them to stop telling people about their encounter with Louis C.K. Lee Kernis, one of the women’s managers at the time, confirmed on Thursday that he had a conversation in which he told Mr. Becky that Louis C.K.’s behavior toward the women had been offensive. Mr. Kernis also said that Mr. Becky was upset that the women were talking openly about the incident.
Mr. Becky denied making any threats toward the women. “I don’t recall the exact specifics of the conversation, but know I never threatened anyone,” he wrote by email on Thursday. Ms. Halpern and Robert Schroeder — Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov’s agent at the time — said that the pair told them that they felt they had been warned to stop talking.
Mr. Becky arguably wields even more power in comedy than Louis C.K. He represents Kevin Hart, Aziz Ansari, Amy Poehler and other top performers, and his company, 3 Arts, puts together programming deals for nearly every platform.

Jokes about masturbation have been a regular part of Louis C.K.’s stage shows. In one bit, he complains about not being able to find a private place in his house to do it. “I’m on the streets now,” he says, “I’ve got nowhere to go.” In another bit he laments being a prisoner of his perversions. “Just the constant perverted sexual thoughts,” he says, then mimes masturbating. “It makes me into a moron.”

Tig Notaro, the comedian whose Amazon series, “One Mississippi,” lists Louis C.K. as an executive producer, is one of the few in the fiercely insular comedy world to speak out against him. Her career received a huge boost when he released her 2012 comedy album, about her cancer diagnosis. But their relationship has crumbled and she now feels “trapped” by her association with him, she wrote in an email.
Her fear is that “he released my album to cover his tracks,” she said. “He knew it was going to make him look like a good guy, supporting a woman.” Ms. Notaro said she learned of his reputation after they sold the series to Amazon, and a recent story line is a fictional treatment of the alleged masturbation episodes.
“Sadly, I’ve come to learn that Louis C.K.’s victims are not only real,” she said by email, “but many are actual friends of mine within the comedy community,” like Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov, who confided in her, she said.

In his forthcoming film, about a television writer whose teenage daughter is wooed by a Woody Allen type, one character aggressively mimics masturbating in front of others. The content has raised eyebrows. Given the rumors surrounding Louis C.K., the movie “plays like an ambiguous moral inventory of and excuse for everything that allows sexual predators to thrive: open secrets, toxic masculinity, and powerful people getting the benefit of the doubt,” Joe Berkowitz wrote in Fast Company.

In private, though, he appears to have acknowledged his behavior.
In 2009, six years after their phone call, Ms. Schachner received a Facebook message from Louis C.K., apologizing. “Last time I talked to you ended in a sordid fashion,” he wrote in the message, which was reviewed by The Times. “That was a bad time in my life and I’m sorry.” He added that he had seen some of Ms. Schachner’s comedy and thought she was funny. “I remember thinking what a repulsive person I was being by responding the way that I did,” he wrote.
Ms. Schachner accepted his apology and told him she forgave him. But the original interaction left her deeply dispirited, she said, and discouraged her from pursuing comedy.

In 2015, a few months before the now-defunct website Defamer circulated rumors of Louis C.K.’s alleged sexual misconduct, Ms. Corry also received an email from Louis C.K., which was obtained by The Times, saying he owed her a “very very very late apology.” When he phoned her, he said was sorry for shoving her in a bathroom. Ms. Corry replied that he had never done that, but had instead asked to masturbate in front of her. Responding in a shaky voice, he acknowledged it and said, “I used to misread people back then,” she recalled.
The call confounded her, Ms. Corry said: not only had he misremembered the incident, which made her think there were other moments of misconduct, he also implied she had done something to invite his behavior. “It is unfair he’s put me or anyone else in this position,” Ms. Corry said.
Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov said that with other allegations swirling around the entertainment world, they could no longer stay silent. “Because of this moment, as gross as it is, we feel compelled to speak,” Ms. Wolov said.
Ms. Notaro said she was standing in support of those with the courage “to speak up against such a powerful figure,” she said, “as well as the multitude of women still out there, not quite ready to share their nightmares.”

Women in comedy have to both compete with and protect one another because it’s such a bro culture. There’s probably going to be anger towards the more powerful women who knew but kept quiet.

And I’ve been told by people “Well then say it then. Say it if it’s true.” If I say it, my career is over. My manager and my agent have told me that. They didn’t threaten it. They just said to me “You know what Jen, it’s not worth it because you’ll be torn apart. Look at the Cosby women.” And this guy didn’t rape me, but he made a certain difficult decision to go on tour with him really hard. Because I knew if I did, I’d be getting more of the same weird treatment I’d been getting from him. And it was really f*cked up, and this person was married. So it was not good, and so I hold a lot of resentment.

What a coincidence that none of these film geniuses ever made a movie where the pervy old protagonist is portrayed as a creep and gets his well deserved comeuppance for molesting young girls.

Bill Maher is a Woody Allen defender. He's one of those Jews who insist Dylan Farrow had every reason to lie.
Woody Allen also has outspoken pedophilia apologist Richard Dawkins on his show.
Maher the Woody apologist and Dawkins the pedo apologist are both part of Sam Harris' (another frequent Maher guest) "The Reason Project". Other members of The Reason Project include Lawrence Krauss, Jeffrey Epstein's close friend.
If Maher isn't a pedo, he certainly isn't very opposed to it either.

[quote]Poehler and Fey sold their souls to hang with the good ole boys long ago
There have been some rumors and scandals about the improv theatres that Poehler and Fey are connected to and they usually stay quiet. Poehler and Fey did a lot of improv work at iO Chicago in the 90s and they consider the founder Charna Halpern to a be a good friend as Halpern helped their careers. There was some scandal a couple of years ago where Halpern was accused of covering up sexual harassment and domestic violence at iO. It was revealed that the woman who accused Halpern was never at iO. But, others still claim that Halpern covered up other incidents. Poehler is one of the founders of UCB and there have been stories of sexual harassment, rape, and racism at the theatres in NYC and LA. I doubt Fey or Poehler would ever give a fuck about some poor woman being abused at iO or UCB. They have their fame and money and that's all that matters to them.

Richard Dawkins Defends 'Mild' Pedophilia, Again and Again Richard Dawkins defended "mild pedophilia" in an interview this weekend. It's not the first time.
Referring to his early days at a boarding school in Salisbury, he recalled how one of the (unnamed) masters “pulled me on his knee and put his hand inside my shorts.”
He said other children in his school peer group had been molested by the same teacher but concluded: “I don’t think he did any of us lasting harm.”
“I am very conscious that you can’t condemn people of an earlier era by the standards of ours. Just as we don’t look back at the 18th and 19th centuries and condemn people for racism in the same way as we would condemn a modern person for racism, I look back a few decades to my childhood and see things like caning, like mild pedophilia, and can’t find it in me to condemn it by the same standards as I or anyone would today,” he said.
He said the most notorious cases of pedophilia involve rape and even murder and should not be bracketed with what he called “just mild touching up.”
His reasons for defending the behavior seem to focus on three points. First, that "hysteria" over a fear of pedophilia is overblown by society; second, that instilling a child with fundamentalist religious beliefs is actually a worse way to abuse a child; and third, that he personally overcame childhood sexual abuse, meaning it must not be that big of a deal for anyone else who was subjected to similar behavior.

Do these guys think jerking off in front of women is going to make the women want to have sex with them? Or are they getting their jollies knowing that the women would never want to have sex with them and are going to be completely grossed out? Is that the part they like?
If you’re a man and want women to think you’re sexy, come over, cook dinner, wash the dishes and take out the trash. That makes you seem normal and not like the Hillside Strangler.
Women think guys continually waving their dicks around in front of random women that have never shown any sign of wanting to have sex with them are psychos, and maybe rapists too. But maybe that’s what gets these guys off. “If I jerk off in front of her, she will think, ‘is he going to rape and kill me and throw my body in a dumpster? I don’t know!’ That’s hot!”
Some little boys were evidently too spoiled, and as adult men, they think they are entitled to endless attention by all women.

It’s actually amazing how these predators can actually get the most predatory movie plots made & finesse them in a way so that the masses don’t object.
Look at how many major (and minor) movies have been made where young girls want to screw old men.
Growing up I NEVER heard of or knew a single teenage girl who wanted to actually f*ck a grown man.
But the MALE writers, producers, directors, studio heads, actors who rule film, have decided its EVERY little girls dream to ride an old geezer. Because that’s what they WANT to believe when they are raping girls irl.
Polanski bragged about liking to screw neglected teens in his autobiography. He said that young girls actually have the power over & manipulate old men like him.
He’s also declared he’s not a bad guy because “Everyone wants to f*ck young girls!”.
And that he decided to photograph underage girls (nude) to “show girls as they really were these days — sexy, pert, and thoroughly human.”

Deadline:
FX “Troubled” By Louis C.K. Sexual Misconduct Allegations, Will Review Them
FX Networks, which has been Louis C.K.’s home for the past eight eight years, just issued a statement in response to the New York Times article that revealed multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against the standup comedian and TV series creator-director.
“We are obviously very troubled by the allegations about Louis C.K. published in The New York Times today. The network has received no allegations of misconduct by Louis C.K. related to any of our 5 shows produced together over the past 8 years,” the company said. “FX Networks and FXP take all necessary actions to protect our employees and thoroughly investigate any allegations of misconduct within our workplace. That said, the matter is currently under review.”
I hear that for now, there are no plans for any of C.K.’s current series to be taken off the air/digital platforms or stop production, with business continuing as usual while FX is investigating.
Louis C.K. has emerged as the most prolific producer at FX Prods. where his company Pig Newton has been under an overall deal since 2013. While his own series, the Peabody Award-winning Louie, has been on a self-imposed hiatus, C.K. via Pig Newton is executive producing four other series, most of which he also co-created.

Someone posted something from Popbitch about Singer in another thread, saying that work on his Freddie Mercury film was behind schedule because Singer kept having breakdowns on set and was having unplanned absences which caused production to be shut down. So he's feeling the strain, which makes me wonder if he's losing his protection. That combined with people like Jessica Chastain speaking out about him, and the series of news article detailing past allegations makes me think someone is preparing something about him
by Anonymous | reply 203 | November 10, 2017 12:16 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 205 | November 10, 2017 12:25 AM |
I'd be surprised if Singer is losing his protection. The problem is that it may have its limits.
The group of people backing him did a very impressive job getting Yahoo and a few other sites to remove the "Justin" story. The number of tweets about Singer dropped to a very low level.
Then Jessica Chastain spoke out against him on a Friday. It didn't get that much coverage initially. Then the following Tuesday it was like the media decided to cover what she said and all of a sudden a bunch of sites like People magazine were covering her. At the same time, the story about the USC students petition to remove Singer's name built up steam.
Singer is probably seeing that even though one leak is plugged other ones will just spring up out of nowhere.

2015: Michael Che Sparks Rumor That Jon Stewart Was Fired From The Daily Show
“My craziest Daily Show moment had to be when I was asked to host an episode because Jon was in a Contract dispute with Comedy Central. It was an absolute dream come true. A month later, Jon and I are at some party in the Fiji Islands for some water company, and Jon says to me with almost tears in his eyes “I’m fired!, those motherf*ckers! F*ck me! F*ck me right in the heart!” That’s when I knew he was leaving the show. I told him I’ll alway be there for him, no matter what. A week later I left for SNL. My episode never re-aired because of an ill-timed tribute to Dr. Cosby. But I’ll never forget it. Thanks Lorne.” To down play the rumor talks, Michael followed up with another post today and gave a more serious farewell. He also went on to say that the above story wasn’t true. Just jokes?
“Before this even almost becomes a thing, I have to say this was all made up. Jon is great. and its good to see him leave on a high, and not cause he OD’d or drugged girls or said the nword a lot on tape. this is a rare happy ending.”
Jon Stewart is set to have his final episode of The Daily Show tonight on Comedy Central.

These stories tell me that women are far too nice. We're starting to look into adoption and would prefer a girl but how do you raise her with enough self esteem and assertiveness that she'll tell a creep beating off in front of her where to go and leave. I can't even imagine how awkward and humiliating it must have been for those two women to sit there and watch him finish. My blood boils just thinking about how powerless they felt in that situation. And that underlying idea all the women had, that "we didn't want to make HIM uncomfortable".

R247, putting aside the “this could end my career” issues, the problem is that when a guy is doing something that crazy and there’s nobody around to help, the woman has to guess whether it’s physically safe to upset him. Men aren’t just taller and heavier. They also have a lot more upper body strength, even if they’re on the smaller side themselves.
There are straight men who will flip out when they’re turned down in a bar, so who knows what the masturbating man who’s blocking the path to the door is going to do. If you have a daughter, early and really thorough martial arts lessons might be the way to go.

We were discussing this in work today and a coworker who's a middle aged frat boy and all around douche heard the title of his movie and said "He must have thought he was untouchable to call it that. What a sick fuck" I asked him if the story hadn't broke and the movie was released as normal what would he have thought of the title. He said "that he probably had the literotica incest section open in another tab when he was writing it. No one can walk into a theatre and ask for 2 tickets to I Love You Daddy without thinking this isn't right"
I thought it interesting that this guy who loves CK and Bill Burr thought the movie was a step too far and that the movie has left him with no doubts that he's guilty as sin.

It reminds me of the church scandals in scale and pervasiveness and the level of cover up. Can't say I'm shocked though. I worked in real estate and in finance in the 70s/80s before becoming blissfully self employed. Every secretary had at least one good story about a time she was propositioned/flashed/groped/harassed. One executive kept a pied de terre in the city where he conducted "interviews" for promotions. Every woman who progressed had to get there on her back for that fat fuck and it also kept the women at each other's throats rather than fighting back. The secretaries hated the women execs because they were whores and the execs were bitches to the secretaries because they knew the truth and they weren't at all ever going to help when one of the secretaries when he was groped because they didn't want it to come out that they fucked the boss.
I'm just wondering where it will end. Will there be any man left standing.

Trevor Noah took some shots at Louis C.K. after he was accused of sexual misconduct.
The Daily Show host kicked things off by addressing a weird story about how Facebook is asking its users to upload nude pictures as a security measure in order to prevent others from uploading them. He called it a “pervy move.”
“I was like, ‘This is the most pervy story of the day,’ and then Louis C.K. said, ‘Hold my penis,'” Noah quipped. “At this point, we’re going to need a new Oscars category this year: Best Actor Whose Movies We Can’t Watch Anymore.”

One of the SNL writers who worked on that sketch had worked with Tig before. Some people didn't side with Tig because there have been short films and jokes that had similar premises to Tig's sketch and the SNL one. In comments section of an AV Club article, someone posted a link to a 2009 short film and tried to imply that Tig stole the idea. The last one standing might be Bill Burr. He's a misogynist because of his upbringing, but AFAIK he's never done any creepy, harassing, etc. shit. Norm MacDonald is another one. He has serious mental health issues, but I've never heard that he's a harasser.
r269 Louis CK has gone broke more than once. Marc Maron mentioned it on his podcast. He's known for it, and he even admits spending it on impulse purchases of stupid shit. He's actually quite fucked up even outside of the harassment. I remember his early routines about his ex. They were rage infused and not funny; I think she got some taken down after they split up.

I wonder if he was the inspiration for the friend of Jerry’s on Seinfeld who Took It Out in front of Elaine. CK opened for Seinfeld at one point, and he was writing for Conan at the time. If so, I guess it’s gratifying that the characters in the show find him gross and weird/pathetic.

Fuck lagging DL, I just spent half an hour laboriously typing out a post with up to ten seconds between the time I’d type a letter to it showing up onscreen and just when I was about to hit send the page reset and everything’s gone 😡 I hope Muriel fixes this shit soon (at this moment it’s working like it should which is actually more frustrating lol).
I’m gobsmacked that Poehler’s younger boy is CK’s but it’s really obvious now that it’s been pointed out. She’d better get the kid in therapy stat to head off any sexual issues at the pass.
I think CK had this coming for a long time but I also think that unlike all the other recently accused/outed predators, CK has a keen conscience and feels genuine remorse (he did try to contact multiple women to apologize). I think he could be rehabilitated and learn to contain his darker impulses through intensive therapy but I also worry about suicide. I hope Adlon and Poehler don’t abandon him because although he’s deeply flawed, I really don’t think he’s irredeemable, and some of his comedy is truly genius.

White culture is the least tribal culture in the world, which is why white societies are the most multi-cultural.
But there's a big difference between kindness to outsiders, and supporting the demographic destruction of white majority countries.
Nobody expects non-white countries to just surrender in the name of political correctness. Only white gentiles.

Funny, I think the fact that Whites brought on slaves from Africa and imposed themselves on non-white native groups in Australia and the Americas was the reason the West is so "multicultural".

This is way overreacting to him imo. If he is pervy (he is), so be it. Masturbating in front of someone isn't "sexual assault" imo. It's annoying and unwelcome, but exaggerating to the equivalent of being physically assaulted is ridiculous. Is it that difficult to just say "ya, not interested" and simply walk away? These comedians seem to be using his fame as some sort of springboard. Stir up a scandal and they will get their own name out there. Jesus christ, if some random middle aged white guy starts jacking off in front of you, just simply walk away. It's not that difficult.

Ok, female here to explain our point of view on this for those that don't think this is a big deal. It's about power again, power over our sex to make us watch you masterbate or worry you will beat us up if we don't. But there is another aspect to it. It makes us feel dirty and makes us feel it was our fault because of the way we have been socialized about our roles in the sex game. Read what Anthony Edward's wrote feeling that was his fault as a child. Same thing. What did I do as a woman that made him think he could do that and what kind of a woman does he think I am that he thinks I think it is ok for him to sexually humiliate me like that. Did you see what I just wrote and did you read what the therapist said in the article that was linked? It is done to sexually humiliate us and he gets off sexually humiliating us like we are dirt or whores. Not humiliating himself, but us because he would do that in front of us. It is why victims like women and kids stay quiet. It is embarrassing and humiliating for us when it should be embarrassing and humiliating for them. But those are the power roles. So, no, this is not just a little nothing for women when it is done. It also reminds us who has the power and that ultimate we are powerless. Be sexually humiliated or risk being beaten or raped. Which is basically the feelings from his victims the perp is trying to achieve and what is turning him on.

I don’t agree with all this racist talks about Jews. The racism makes it difficult to have convo about what is true.
1. A man with power in HW is prone to being a scumbag predator regardless of race/religion. Because there is a very high % of Jews in power a lot of these guys getting outed are Jewish
2. There is also the reality that a lot of minority population enclaves stick together. This would explain much of Jewish success in HW and other sectors. It means they support, COVER, Influence each each other for better or worse. A victim of Harvey’s dated his brother Bob. Bob literally refused to hear anything unpleasant about Harvey to protect himself from accountability.
Weinstein talked about getting the Jewish community to run HW like a mafia. He claimed it was to fight anti Semitism but Its clear he didn’t want to end prejudice, he just wanted to push everyone else out or down and have his little club of trusted men. Ones who felt obligated to him because of their small shared community.

I don’t see how you can possibly prove the first sentence of your first point, r407, since Jews have been running Hollywood since the beginning.
You have no way of saying things wouldn’t be different if different people were running Hollywood.
In fact, considering the fact that corporate America reformed itself in the 80s regarding sexual harassment and Hollywood didn’t, I’d make the argument that things would have been very different in Hollywood if Jews hadn’t been running it.

R413, there exists a certain kind of power and privilege that leads people to believe they shouldn't have to pay for anything.
It's sickening, but I've seen very wealthy people (mostly WASPS, bigot above) expecting to be comped for things they can not only afford, but wouldn't notice if the charge showed up on their account.
So combine that with a perversion like this guy has. Of course he could pay hookers to look at him as he whacks off, but NOT paying is what makes it great.

I've always got a weird vibe about Louis CK, I couldn't put my finger on it, I'm usually an extremely good judge of character. I've never found his type of creepy humor funny. To me, he always screamed, "sexual predator" or just plain freaky sexually.
He's not attractive at all. Exposing himself is probably a large part of his modus operandi when dealing with women, that's the only way ugly men think they can get women, be overt perverts? Women aren't into that shit. This man doesn't even seem a bit charming, I've never found him funny. His SNL monologue was just plain creepy.

R404 a lot seem to. I blame it on circumcision.
Health officials have reached a tentative agreement with New York City's ultra-Orthodox community over regulating the controversial practice known as metzitzah b'peh, or "oral suction circumcisions," the Associated Press reported Tuesday. The tradition of metzitzah b'peh goes back to biblical times but has created a modern-day dilemma for religiously observant mankind. New York City officials linked the practice to 17 cases of infant herpes since 2000, of whom two died. In the latest development, the city will stop requiring mohels who use oral suction to have parents sign consent forms, which many hadn't complied with anyway. Instead the city will focus its efforts on educating members of the ultra-Orthodox community about the risks and dangers of the practice. "Our goal is to achieve awareness of the risks," city representative Avi Fink stated.

If the Trump situation gets any worse, people will eventually overlook this, especially since this was not sexual assault.

I would also be ASTOUNDED by my gay friends who admired Louis CK -- especially because he seemingly loved to use the word "faggot" in his act. It's like he gleefully grits his teeth whenever he says it. That Cinnabun joke is one of the most homophobic things I've ever heard. And it's stomach turning to hear the crowd cheer, laugh, and applaud him.
R175 I've heard the rumors for years, and I actually came across that video when it was first uploaded. I never really liked Jon and this validated it. This is a pig and failed man being aggressive against a woman. Like CK.
There was some "explanation" linked upthread where 1950s style they tried to blame it on the mother. It's failed men who could never get the girl, have never had normal social relationships. They are slobs with power being pigs and exacting revenge on pretty girls who are in their orbit with less power.

[quote]You mean like how they buy assault weapons and slaughter total strangers? How their criminal and mentally ill behavior causes millions of dollars in economic damage? How they sexually harass and assault others to block their professional advancement? How women need to be in charge everywhere because they are so fucking superior in every way and resent being held accountable for their non stop fuckups? Oh, that's right, I forgot, women are the majority of child rapists, child porn consumers and responsible for human trafficking.
All very true. None of which precludes women from doing their own fucked up stuff. Like the girl who accused my friend's 16-year-old son of raping her when she visited him one night. Fortunately they have nanny cams installed in the house, so they were able to watch and see that their son's claims of innocence were true. Now they're going through trying to clear their son's name, but the accuser and her mother are claiming they're falsifying the video evidence by somehow switching date stamps or something.
Assholes exist in all races and genders.

And on a related note when women do fuck up (and they of course sometimes do) why do we think that justifies the existence of misogynistic comics/rappers/radio hosts to keep them in line and call them out on their BS. Would we follow that line of thinking when it comes to race and sexuality? Do Spacey and Cosby require blatant racism and homophobia to call them out.

R500 where did the alleged rape take place and where was the nanny cam. I'm hoping there wasn't a nanny cam in her sons bedroom and I hope the nanny cam didn't capture any nudity or sexual contact between the minors. This will get nasty. Airbnb hosts have been getting sued for having cameras in their homes and losing. I have a coworker who was filmed on a hidden cam in his Airbnb rental taking a pastry from the kitchen. THE host fined him $5 through the site. He sued because he didn't know there were cameras and he won a $15,000 settlement. Having footage of minors fooling around or having a camera in a location where such footage couldn't be captured would destroy a person's life. Good look to your friend.
That said my niece was raped in 2011. Her rapist was convincited and got an 8 year sentence. His parents defended him all the way and still claim his innocence. My brother in law had a nervous breakdown and was institutionalised for 6 months. During that time my niece attempted suicide. The rape was destroyed a lovely family and I would have serious reservations believing everything I hear from a parent who is always going to defend their baby.

A young boy’s relationship with his mother or a girl’s relationship with her father is the formative template they have for how to relate to members of the opposite sex for the rest of their lives. In this case his mother beating him and making him feel like a worthless piece of shit as a child clearly has something to do with him becoming a “failed man” as an adult.

Louis CK's "apology" has got to be one of the most narcissistic things I've ever read. For reasons I'll never understand, he was treated like the Pope of comedy and everyone kissed his ring -- so no wonder he's obsessed with his own "admiration."
"The power I had over these women is that they ADMIRED me." "I learned yesterday the extent to which I left these women who ADMIRED me feeling badly about themselves..." "I also took advantage of the fact that I was widely ADMIRED in my and their community..."
I'm a progressive and a liberal, but I'm so amused by the likes of Jon Stewart, Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, et al, digging themselves into a hole over this one. They act like such feminist allies yet they covered Louis's ass for years.
Sarah Silverman's case is especially confounding, because Louis compulsively fapped in front of her own sister. I can't wait to hear whatever excuse she comes up with. She was on Bill Maher last night, but oddly the subject never came up during the panel segment or "overtime"...

I get what you're saying. I thought Jon Stewart just more smug over the years and I attended a Democratic Party meeting in my area a couple of years ago where they played clips of Stewart on the Daily Show and I was annoyed except for the clip where he rightfully called out the NYPD out on the Eric Garner case.
Aziz Ansari has been called out on being a hypocrite on other issues. People who knew him pre-fame said that he was all about hanging out with white people and dating white women. Then all of sudden he became about promoting diversity and dating non-white women. Silverman has a history of hanging out and dating douches. It was mentioned up thread that she dated Jimmy Kimmel during his Man Show period and her rape jokes pissed off a lot of people. She has to be pissed at her sister for revealing her experiences with CK.
On a related note, during the election last year my friend's idiot step-mom was defending Trump's pussy grabbing talk video and saying that a lot of men are just like that and that people made too much of a big deal. A few weeks ago, she posted #metoo on Facebook. I hate to sound cruel but I side eyed her. Of course, she didn't say what her #metoo incident was, but her previous defense of Trump was off putting.

by Anonymous | reply 526 | November 11, 2017 9:19 PM |
R524 Agreed -- a lot of these people are a mixed bag anyway, but I just find it interesting how their allegiance to Louis is so cultish.
Jon Stewart has made some good points over the years of course, but he mostly just toes the progressive line. He's not that savvy, and his political analysis usually misses the mark (e.g. when he insisted that Senate Republicans were going to regret *not* confirming Merrick Garland). I get so turned off again when I see him in that David Axelrod video. That student asks him about Louis's rumored (yet well-documented) transgressions, and he responds by playing dumb in the most condescending, patronizing way possible. He also has a "do you know who you're talking to??" moment.
I didn't know that about Aziz, but I'm not surprised at all. He does date a lot of white chicks on 'Master of None' and IRL. I happen to like 'Master of None,' and I never really paid much attention to Aziz before the series -- but I think that's really a credit to Alan Yang.
Aziz also did some very public mourning and eulogizing of Harris Wittels, who by many accounts, was an asshole of the highest order. Sarah Silverman pulled the same shit too, posting a sappy tribute to him. So you're right, I guess this is just who these people are.
[quote] But if that last bit sounds a little over-volatile to you, well: buckle your seatbelt. After his e-mail had been sent and published, Wittels proceeded to find Shah on Twitter and bombard her with insults, calling her “sociopathic” and “cunty.” (From his Twitter feed, it would seem that he's since deleted the trolling, but Shah kept and published screen caps.) An anonymous troll used Wittels' harassment as cover for his or her own, sending an e-mail to the Gawker Media offices which claimed that Shah “deserves to die and all the parks writers will gladly fuck the shit out of her dirty lifeless body.” And when Shah herself reached out to Wittels, showing him the rape/death threat, he chose to double down, writing yet another insulting e-mail and signing off with “you're a cunt.” To another Defamer representative, he wrote that “my intention of calling her a cunt was to call her a cunt (because she is you see).”

His parents divorced when he was a kid.? Where was his father? I lot of problem men do not have a father figure because the father wasn't around for one reason or another.
I was referring to the article linked which specifically blamed mothers for this failed man behavior, not CK's personal life, which I do not know. I saw the divorce of the parents mentioned on his wiki page.

Plain old rich assholes will say they pay a few million in taxes and wouldn't it be better to leave him in his job. The only people being punished would be poor people and we need to be better than that as a society. That piece on H. Wittels was wild, in itself and otherwise. The name rang a distant bell and I realized it was because of a long, long article I read about him -- in an ostensibly decent-quality media outlet -- after he died.
Fair enough that any article after he died isn't going to start, "Harris Wittels, who got publicly vicious with someone who criticized him, died Saturday...," but nothing about that? Nothing brief tucked in toward the bottom when it talks about him wrestling w. demons?

R564 I'm a cameraman. I work on a long running TV show and love our crew. I've been in the industry for 16 years. I've worked in 4 countries and haven't found the industry any worse (or better) than any other and I was late breaking in to TV at 38. For the most part the people I've met have just been trying to pay their bills and wrap early on Friday. At my current job we're about 30% female too so I've never experienced a very toxic boysclub and I've never experienced any homophobia either. That's not to say I doubt any of the stories, I don't. But i do resent the entire industry down to us grunt workers being smeared by association. If our show was cancelled without warning today I would be up shit creek because I got my mortgage on the stength of having a contract until 2019.

R565 -- I know, I never heard about Harris Wittels either until all of those tributes poured in after his death. Someone mentioned the Twitter harassment thing on another thread and that was the first I heard of it.
Apparently, he was just like Louis CK in that he believed feminism and comedy are diamentricaly opposed. He was also an adamant defender of rape jokes...what a mensch!
I looked up his material, but he's another comedy genius I don't quite get. His humor just seems really bro-ish, and he doesn't make jokes so much as douchey musings (e.g. "I'm starting a cult. Gettin all the ladies pregs and the dudes will do farm work and I'll play songs in the evening.").

by Anonymous | reply 572 | November 12, 2017 4:46 PM |
R572, I think a big part of his sister's angle will be how their mother got the news (via text alerts/messages, before anyone else could reach out to her). It's funny how his sister mentions that Harris was a bad student, but their mother claims he got straight A's in her article about him...
His sister once spoke great length about the commenters who trolled Harris' social media after he died, deriding him as a "junkie." But her brother WAS a junkie, and a nasty junkie at that. He surely hurled much worse invective at people during his lifetime. Most addicts I know are insufferable human beings, so at least she could acknowledge that his "disease" made him an even bigger asshole.
Also, I'm sick of hearing about the word "humblebrag," as if it rivals Einstein's theory of relativity in terms of importance.

Now that it's come out, its sorta weird she hasn't addressed it, but it's not weird at all that all these people kept quiet over the years in all these different situations. It really is up to the victim - in any industry. It's not "right", people should be more willing to come forward. But, people naturally are trying to protect their interests first, and the main interest is usually keeping a job and being able to pay the bills. That's a depressing reality, but everyone gets SO self righteous about people "not speaking up" and thereby being "complicit," as if you expect everyone to risk their jobs and their reputation by not responding to anything and everything around them. Of course there are people who are so principled that they risk a lot and do speak up, and it would be great if there were more. But, I think the vast majority of people in any industry don't speak up and unless government and/or the private sector are really going to look at workplace abuse issues and seriously create an environment where the majority of the time speaking up won't spell doom for the person speaking, not much is going to change.

But that’s not what we’re talking about here. What galls people isn’t his fellow performers failure to speak up; it’s that they kept working with him and giving him opportunities and platforms on their shows.
Case in point: Mike Schur, creator of Parks & Rec, who admitted he knew about the allegations but cast CK regardless; he has since apologized. Stewart no doubt had a huge amount of say in who guested on TDS especially towards the end of the run, but Louie continued to get on the show. This is the complicity that we’re discussing.

Burr doesn't get it, especially with his manager. Maron does.

Video review of his movie by Alonso Duralde, Christy Lemire and Ben Mankiewicz, if anyone's interested.
Alonso and Christy saw it even before the NYT story broke and still they felt iffy about it.

I love a seedy ginger - Oliver on The Affair, for instance - but Louis is plain repulsive.
