I recently took a trip to Japan I was pleasantly surprised at how masculine the gay men are. Japanese guys are super hot. WTF happens to Asians when they come to the US? They fucking turn into women. For once I’d like to see a masculine Asian man in the states.

Plenty of straight masculine asians in America.

Japanese and Mongolian men are absolutely stunning. And yes, very masculine in a far more graceful fashion than American men ever can be. Well dressed Japanese men (usually straight, unfortunately) can absolutely take your breath away. Korean men are hit or miss. Chinese men not at all.

How are Japanese guys in the sack?
I read a blog post about hetero Japanese sex. Bizarre!
The men expect the women to lie perfectly still the entire time. They’re not supposed to act like they’re enjoying it at all. It was very Victorian and strange.

R8 I have no idea about real life, but women in Japanese porn are known for making this really odd squeaky whimpering noise.

Asian men in the US grow up in a society dominated by white men.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||October 31, 2017 7:35 AM|
What’s your point, r11?
|by Anonymous||reply 12||October 31, 2017 7:39 AM|
Hmmmm.....maybe because that's because America was settled by white Europeans and are the majority population in the US.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||October 31, 2017 7:45 AM|
Also not sure why being an ethnic minority in America would make Asian American men less "virile" than Asian men.
Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
Also guessing you don't live in an area with many Asian Americans.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||October 31, 2017 7:47 AM|
Can Asian men handle conflict and still maintain their masculinity?
To continue the Japanese hetero sex thing I read, a white woman tried having normal sex with a couple Japanese guys in Japan, and they freaked out and immediately assumed the passive, female role (as in lying perfectly still). They both told her that her not lying still made them feel gay.
They certainly didn’t rise to the occasion. Tat’s why I wonder if Japanese men can handle uncertainty beyond the very narrowly proscribed theater of their day-to-day lives, or if they would just crumble.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||October 31, 2017 7:56 AM|
Because the appearance of masculinity in America is totally different, R14. It is more physical and size related. African-americans, Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders look just as masculine as white American men here. However, East Asian men just look slender and gracile in their midst, even when when they are muscular.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||October 31, 2017 7:57 AM|
There was this 6'4" Japanese leather guy who used to buy coffee at the Starbucks where I was working while I was attending college.
Very masculine and ridiculously attractive. Definitely gay. I impressed him with my Japanese skills and should have whored myself off to him during my shift.
But I didn't because I was a chicken-shit.
Also, attributing a man qualities generally associated with women is frowned upon in Asia more so than in America and that's reflected in the child rearing. This is more so East Asia and less so places like India where parents are more liberal in that context... on average. I think it has more to do with this than anything else really re: gay men from Asia more masculine than gay Asian men from America.

Str8t white guys in America are more attracted to biracial Asians (mix of Asian & White) than 100% Asian
If a 100% Asian was masculine & muscular 99% of the white gays would not be interested due to race.
Sorry but it is true

Asian men are ugly. Masculine, feminine, short, tall, thin, fat or muscular. They're just so damn ugly!
|by Anonymous||reply 20||October 31, 2017 4:20 PM|
R17 You got it completely backwards.
Indians are much more overtly homophobic than East Asians. They are more likely to be intolerant to "fem" stereotypes.
There is a LONG tradition of homosexual partners and men dressing in women's clothing in east Asia. In performing arts both in China and Japan, men dressed as women has a long traditon. Also i don't kow where you went to in Japan, but Japanese gay men has a wide range from super femmy to super butch and everything in between. There is a giant boyband scene where they dress like Yaoi characters (comic books of "boy's love", women are the target demographic).
PS. who removed the "Asian immigration" thread i have been commenting on for the past day?
|by Anonymous||reply 21||October 31, 2017 4:26 PM|

I usually avoid these threads because I go on DL for fun and not to analyze things but these are really general statements. You haven't met one Asian in the States who was masculine? I don't know where in the US you're from or if you grew up rich or poor or is it just East Asians because I think class and ethnicity might have something to do with these generalizations. So if you actually want a thought out answer to your general question, I'll tell you some of my experiences.
I grew up in a working class area in California. It was 95 percent minorites. Mexicans, Blacks, Southeast Asians. Many of the Asian men in my area were masculine. They worked out all the time, were on the football team. We had Asian homecoming and prom kings. Some joined gangs. They had shaved heads, tattoos. I know 2 who are still in prison for murder. 1 of them robbed a mcdonald's and someone got killed in the robbery. Another one was playing pool with friends but kept getting racially insulted by a Mexican guy, so they fought and he ended up killing the guy. Most Asian guys in my neighborhood joined the military after high school, except for me. Most of our fathers were in the military.
I will agree with you that when I went to college, many of the Asian guys did tend to fit your stereotype. It was a culture shock. I think since they grew up in upper middle class areas around mostly white people, they think and act differently. They don't have to fight people all the time or be on guard so I guess they can concentrate on academics.
After college, I got a job in Japan and lived there for two years so I also agree with you about what you saw over there. I still live in Asia. Even though I miss the states, there is a feeling of comfort here of being able to be anything you want to be without feeling bogged down by stereotypes, pressure and self-doubt. It can be psychologically freeing. America is still only 2 percent Asian. That's a really low number so I get why you're generalizing but there are masculine Asian men in the states. You'll have to go to the ghetto though. Anyway, I'll go back to avoiding these threads again and go back to the mindless fun threads now.

|by Anonymous||reply 35||October 31, 2017 8:44 PM|
R35, good point. Lots of the white guys are older and not in the best of shapes. But those Asian guys do also have hot, young white admirers too. Maybe it's because SF is more multicultural in general.

It's not just gays.
I have a friend from college who is a very masculine (and hetero) Korean-American guy. 6'2" and a D3 athlete. He had a lot of trouble finding women who would date him even though he's very good looking and in shape.
Asian women found him too 'white" and too aggressive and white women assumed all Asian guys were wimps with small dicks.
Fortunately he found a wonderful woman who was able to get past the stereotype and they've been married for at least 5 years now.

OP, perhaps you Hang out with an effeminate crowd of men in general, not just Asians. At my gym and neighborhood, are countless masculine Asians playing basketball, football, and hanging around macho latin and black guys. There are also Asian thuggish guys who may be part of gangs.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||November 1, 2017 2:10 PM|
I grew up in Southern California, where there is a large Asian population with people from all walks of life, so I saw everything from effeminate to masculine. The Bay Area has similar demographics, and I know the Houston area has a large Asian population from all walks of life, so I've seen lots of masculine Asian men there too. My neighborhood had a lot of Filipinos, Cambodians, and Vietnamese from working class backgrounds, so a lot of them leaned masculine and rugged. There were a lot of older masculine East Asian men that I would see from time to time as well. There were several Asian guys that I had crushes on, but didn't understand/comprehend because I was 13 and barely understood homosexuality (it was the early 90s and I was raised in a religious household). When I lived in Atlanta, the Asian population there was mostly Korean and quite a few were FOBs. I did wind up becoming fuckbuddies with a Chinese man who grew up in Georgia, and happened to be masculine, well-endowed and could fuck very well. I wound up moving to Los Angeles for awhile, and I would see attractive, masculine Asian men there, but they either dated white men or other Asians, so I really didn't get much play/attention from them. Now, I live in the DC Area, which also has a large Asian population and while I do see some masculine, attractive Asian men around here, I think due to the fact that many of them grew up in the upper class suburbs in Virginia and Maryland around DC, or came from Ivy-league schools in the NE, they don't seem to have the edge that a lot of West Coast Asians have. And a lot of them act shocked that I would find them attractive.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||November 1, 2017 2:41 PM|
R41 I don’t have one feminine friend. Now don’t get me wrong after rugby we camp it up a little bit. All in good fun though. I’d love to know where these masculine Asian men are. What city are you in?

Gay Asians in the US are immigrants. They grew up with very different family dynamics and personal expectations than their counterparts in their native countries. As an immigrant, you are taught that in order to survive, you have to make money to pay the rent, buy grocery, pay the utilities, etc... So that's what you focus on instead of working on your body or your looks.
So it's really not that gay Asians are less masculine in the US. It's that they're immigrants and they have different priorities.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||December 17, 2017 12:43 PM|
In Japan, the way people perceive you is very, very important. They are very much locked into gender roles in Japan.
Sexism is still a huge issue. Homophobia is still a huge issue.
All people have to do to be masculine is self-analyze 100% of the time, which Japanese people do.
The fathers (Japan/Korea) are very strict and "being a man" is very important or else you'll lose face for the family--or the Japanese equivalent.
It's much different than other parts of Asia like the Dravidian / Indo-Iranian or Semitic areas in which the men's behaviour--in terms of masculinity--isn't considered as important, but similar to the Slavic areas of Asia.
I'd say if the family is more Ainu in Japan they will be more lax, If they are more Han, they will be more strict.

Agree that you would get wider choice in Asia obviously, especially finding tops or even hairy(!) Asian gays. But goddamn, I met this really muscular, 40-something HKong-born lawyer at the gym. Lives out in Long Island but works in the city. He was persistent so I finally gave up my ass and was shocked at how good it was. Yes the dick is on the smaller side but he knows how to use it and at least it doesn’t hurt! That also means he can really ride me a really long time. Big beautiful nipples, amazing back, lots of hot verbal worship between us. I like daddy bears normally but this has been a pleasant surprise. Thinking he might be married though.
