If so can you suggest a brand that works well? Thanks.
Do you use Argan oil on your skin?

YES. Buy Josie Maran 100% organ oil.

ARGAN OIL. DAMNED AUTO CORRECTION.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 16, 2017 8:49 PM |
Don't splurge on it, anything with an argan extract will do. I'm using a cheap facial toner with it and the fine lines are gone. Of course, the deep ones are another story.
I've recently come across an exfoliator, made with argan shell powder, so I may try that as well.

R5 Sorry, didn't see your reply before. It's a German one that's only available here at our Central European version of Sephora. Again, it doesn't really matter which one you get, it'll probably be just as good.

I tried it a couple of times but it makes my areola skin tissue itch like crazy (it took me a little bit to figure out that the argan oil was causing it - at first I thought something was wrong with my detergent and I washed my clothes wrong).

Josie Maran -
Night-time Use: Apply to entire face; then use a clean, warm, damp wash cloth to remove soils; then wash face with a detergent-free facial product; rinse generously to soak in water's moisture during rinsing; this next step is very important: lightly, lightly dab dry, while still leaving skin moist; then immediately reapply the oil, lightly, rubbing in well, covering all areas: newly restored warmed "Plumpy Bliss."
Don't over-apply to your forehead, upper-eye area; otherwise, as with any oil-based products, it'll travel to your eyes: Gravity.

Don Lemon says he uses it, so I'm in. I wonder what brand he uses.

The best argan oil I’ve found by far is from a company called Kahina Giving Beauty. Pricier than most, though. Their skincare is fantastic, especially the cleanser. If you need something more hydrating try their prickly pear seed oil.

So clue me in, cosmetic queens.
What exactly is argan oil supposed to do, and how does it work?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 23, 2017 2:10 PM |
Aragan oil just moisturizes your skin. A few year ago it was touted as the latest miracle oil (to get your money). Evry few years a new oil is touted as the best. Now it is marula oil. Oil is oil. They just stamp their name, maybe add a few pther oil to charge you 10x the price.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 23, 2017 8:33 PM |
Not exactly true R25. Not all oils are the same. Sure Argan serves as a moisturizer. But for example Argan is high in Vitamin E and A. It is also packed with anti-oxidants, Omega-6 fatty acids, and linoleic acid. Research shows that when applied to skin, it eases inflammation while moisturizing the skin.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 24, 2017 1:15 AM |
I'm not r26 but I do agree. I feel roger the technical term, but you can actually look up oils and see their "clog" rating. Argan oil is almost as good as it gets while NOT clogging your pores, almost a dry oil. So you get all the benefits of moisture without filling your pores with oil.

The colored men at work stink to high heaven of coconut oil. No one will fuck them because of that. Well, that, and because their calves are so skinny and their noses are so huge.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 23, 2017 1:35 PM |
R36 - Josie's product is "Cold Pressed," which means it is not subjected/exposed to heat during the pressing process.
Heat "burns" away the oil's natural properties and messes up its chemical structure. This is one of the primary reasons Chefs prefer "Cold Pressed" olive oils.

Argan oil would require a carrier oil for topical application, correct?

R47- Nope.

by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 23, 2017 5:29 PM |
I just add oils to my bath water; is that as effective as applying directly to the skin? I feel like it's a bit gentler doing it via the hot soak.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 23, 2017 5:30 PM |
R51 - Oil floats on the water's surface; it does not dissipate in it; but warm/hot baths are very relaxing. (Upon exiting the bathtub to dry off, pat skin dry with your bath towel; do not rub it dry. Otherwise, the moisturizing effects of the remnant oils upon exiting the bath tub will be removed by the bath towel.) Afterward, slip into a cozy pair of cotton pajamas.
The most effective application of oil for facial care is to apply it while skin is still slightly moist.

by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 10, 2018 12:31 PM |
Once and for all, nothing can penetrate your skin. Oils, Argan and all the others, just sit on top of your skin.
They are not absorbed, they simply dry. People can be sold anything. Why not try snake oil?
And P.S. The only oil that penetrates the hair shaft is coconut oil. Now you know.

What about Timeless skincare Argan oil?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 31, 2018 4:34 PM |
I have long-ish, really thick Scottish hair so I wash, condition with Mane and Tail and after the shower on damp hair I use One ‘n Only’s -Argan Oil Treatment.
If you have thick hair like me and you can’t manage it you might want to think about working a little less than a dime’s worth through your hair really well and then combing it really well.
The smell is not bad. It’s not great but if you wash and condition your hair you hardly notice it.

Trader Joe's has Argan oil for like $8.

I used Josie Maran's argan oil. Once. It made my skin break out instantly. No moisturizer I've ever used has done that.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 31, 2018 7:18 PM |
You can buy cold pressed argan oil on Amazon - 4 ounces for $12.95. What possible reason is their to spend more? That Josie is $48 for 1.75 ounces.
R57 - ever heard of skin pores and osmosis?
In the morning after my shower I use Kiss My Face Olive and Aloe body lotion. I also add a drop or two of an essential oil to give it a little fragrance. I honestly don't know how long the fragrance lasts as no one has ever commented on it. Well, except a BF or two first thing in the morning. But I like it.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 1, 2018 12:15 AM |
The deal with Josie Maran's is its purity and it is first pressing only.
Think about fine olive oil that is first pressed. Sure you can buy cheap olive oil in the grocery store for $&, but you can also buy the good stuff for 4 times that amount. Buy the good stuff since it's going on your face.

I use Active Argan and it is absolutely the best oil out there, IMO. I did try the TJ's argan oil and it's good but takes much longer to absorb compared to Active Agran. It's still good, though.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 14, 2018 2:52 AM |
Maybe it was just the particular brand, but my sister gave me a bottle of pure Argan oil and it made me smell like dirty hair. The oil didn’t smell like anything in the bottle or on my hand, but when I put it on my face, there was the smell. It was subtle but it made me feel sick. Ew.
Maybe I’ll try a bit of Josie Maran at Sephora.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | June 14, 2018 3:40 AM |
I don't put oil on my face. Just my body. I use the face the AA creams which have argan in it.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | June 14, 2018 3:43 AM |
R75, due to its intense restorative properties, it is better to apply at night, on still-moist skin. The moistened-skin surface quickly absorbs the product as it dries, resulting in a thin, delicate barrier against the evening's dry air. (Tip: it's better to cleanse and apply earlier in the evening so your skin has the appropriate amount of time to absorb the restorative product before your face hits the pillows later on.)
