Thinking about getting tickets for a matinee on 11/4 - he's out; will be u/s.
Is it worth seeing Dear Evan Hansen without Ben Platt?

It's certainly more expensive than it should be. I saw it for $80 in the orchestra right when it opened. After the Tony nominations and awards, the ticket prices skyrocketed. If I had tickets, would I go? Yes. His name isn't over the title, so no refunds. Would I buy tickets at that price on Ben's day off? Nope. I would wait until February when a Taylor Trensch is playing Evan and the discounts start. I'm interested to see if DEH with Noah Gavin is watchable or a shit show. He's in it for 8 weeks after Ben and before Taylor.

YES. its the music that makes the show

R2 - No. Actually it's Ben. The music and play was written with him in mind. It's the Ben Platt review. I'm not sure anyone else can pull it off. The best analogy is American Idiot failing after Johnny Gallagher left. Van Hughes was OK as Johnny, but couldn't sustain the ticket sales.

R3 no. Actually anyone can do it.

R2 - We'll see. The economic impact of Ben leaving won't be known until after January/February. I think tickets were scarce until that point in time. When Ben announced a mid November date for his last show, I'm wondering if ticket sales slowed for dates in the Spring. People will forgive if Noah doesn't do well. He's a fill in until Taylor arrives.

I agree with R2. Ben is no Carol Channing!

The only way that I WOULD see it.

They should have gotten Bernadette Peters to take over.

It wasn’t worth seeing it with him.

R9 - it was something worthwhile to see at a discount. I wouldn't play the current ticket price.

I'm waiting for the replacement too. Ticket prices will take a dive.

How old are you OP? The show is geared towards Millenials and parents. But then again, a good friend of mine, also a 50-something eldergay, really liked it.

But the quality will soar.

I can't believe Come From Away is still going strong. There's no "star", minimal sets and no stand-out songs. How are they doing it??

I saw tickets for it sans Ben for $280 a pop on StubHub.
That's less than half the cost with him - but they are up in the mezzanine.

All ben platt did was act like a retard (which is very easy for him) and sing pretty. Any pop tenor can do that.

R16, like father, like son.

Who does Ben Ross play? He is a talented songwriter, and would have done well at Carnegie-Mellon if he had stayed.

Billy Porter could learn a thing about picking a frame from Ben Levi Ross.
