I love this movie! It's like my semi-outcast gay youth: almost cool by association with the hot Bros, but yet so far away. That poor little chicken!

Very unusual and compelling film. I never forgot it.

What about the Mudge boy?

It was shocking to see Tom Guiry transform into such a hunk for this movie. I still remember him as the shy kid in the Sandlot.

I take your point and iwtc OP, though I'll say I preferred Hirsch in MILK & IMAGINARY HEROES. He's had many gay roles, hasn't he?
It's a pity Emile turned out to be such a bizarre unprofessional bullying little munchkin behind the scenes, because he could turn in a good performance.

I liked him in Into the Wild as well. But he is very offputting in real life.
Wish I could enjoy The Mudge Boy more but I grew up rurally and it hit a bit close to home for me lol. Not that I went through the exact same things but just the general small-town bleakness of it was very suffocating. Effective though.

I hated this movie because he kills the chicken in the end.

I always wondered whether Hirsch's character was actually completely gay, or whether he was just so lonely & mixed-up the distinction didn't matter. DGMW, as a gay I'd favor the former reading, but something about such a simplistic characterisation never sat right with me.

The short film it's based on is very good as well.
