Difficult People does that thing where they make non stop pop culture references to flatter the audience. When they reference American Idol or whatever, the audience thinks, "Oh, I know what that is!" and they feel good for being in on the "joke."

But they aren't jokes, just references. Hack writing.

[r13] will & grace and gilmore girls is reference heavy in the same way. i agree DP does have a lot of references & that's an interesting point re making people feel like the show was made for them, etc. seasons 1 & 2 used to do the thing curb does where all the diff plotlines come together at the end but season 3 has been more anti-trump/sci-fi.. still good but in a different way

How long ago did they shoot the latest season? She's gained like 50% of her body weight.

She probably starved it off r15 or took diet pills and the body can only take so much. It rebounds.

I like the show for the most part. Lola and Matthew are great, and I enjoy how ballsy they are with a lot of the jokes. I don't really like Billy's character, and I don't think it's funny when they're purposefully malicious (I.e. Julie not helping someone who fell down a flight of stairs and Billy then robbing him).

Still, I watch every week. The episode where Julie identifies as Italian was a series best.

And not to be all Dove model-y, I find it refreshing that there's a main character who clearly struggles with her weight.

Her hair style is something from the 70s. And why does she dress like that?

I used to listen to her podcast but stopped after an episode where she used the "so gay" (as in "lame", "shit" etc.) thing. I was probably over sensitive and I don't think she hates gay people but it was disappointing, especially because she used it in conversation with a straight man - a real case of perpetuating a horrible turn of phrase among her own kind.

ya i read it ..it was good but kind of sad? she hooked up with a lot of losers... interesting perspective into straight women dating in new york city... not like anything i have experienced... one lover she met on myspace and he ended up being super quiet/totally different in person...o she did get her ass eaten ! buy it..or get the audiobook, she reads it

book is funny but a little depressing and a little....accessorizing of gays. that being said, i love her show and i don't think she looks like she gained that much weight on seth meyers! who doesn't gain a few pounds in europe?
