Eva Green
I find her mesmerazingly beautiful, even more so than Angelina Jolie. She's not much of an actress, but she is just magnetic onscreen - I just can't take my eyes off her.
Why isn't she a bigger star? And, at 37, is she now too old to achieve the superstardom she so richly deserves?

Although she has he best bedroom eyes, I think she kind of plays the same sultry femme fatale character in all her roles. She has probably limited herself in that way.

Don't know what kind of range she really has as an actress, but I agree with R21 -- she started "Penny Dreadful" as a lesser known cast member on an ensemble show, but so completely overtook the series, that in the end it was basically "The Eva Green Show." It was a magnificent performance for a genre television show. Wonder how that development went over with her more famous co-stars?

The OP's question was "why isn't she a bigger star?"
Answer: She has no star power. She has a certain appeal, but not the "it" factor. Audiences agree. Penny Dreadful was an above average show on a network few people watch that was cancelled early due to a combination of high production costs and low ratings, on an already low-rated network.
I like her and don't mean to rain on the love fest, but there are reasons "why" regarding Eva Green.

Eva and Ewan in BBC Films' "Perfect Sense" | Science Fiction
"An epidemic begins to spread throughout the globe, causing humankind to lose their sensory perceptions one by one. The story focuses on two people: Susan, a scientist, one of a team of epidemiologists who are trying to find the causes of the disease, and Michael, a chef, who works at a busy restaurant located next to Susan's flat. The two meet and get to know each other as the epidemic progresses, a relationship which soon turns to love.
Humans begin to lose their senses one at a time. Each loss is preceded by an outburst of an intense feeling or urge. First, people begin suffering uncontrollable bouts of crying and this is soon followed by the loss of their sense of smell. An outbreak of irrational panic and anxiety, closely followed by a bout of frenzied gluttony, precedes the loss of the sense of taste. The film depicts people trying to adapt to each loss and trying to carry on living as best they can, rediscovering their remaining senses as they do so. Michael and his co-workers do their best to cook food for people who cannot smell nor taste.
The loss of hearing comes next and is accompanied by an outbreak of extreme anger and rage. Michael experiences it first and is verbally abusive at Susan who flees in fear, losing her own hearing shortly afterwards. Despite her knowledge that it was the disease that caused the outburst, Susan cannot face Michael again. People struggle to adjust and to go on living. One day, every person on Earth suddenly experiences a feeling of joyful euphoria. Susan realizes she both forgives and still loves Michael and rushes to his job. The two find each other and embrace just as they, and the rest of the world, become blind."

R52 - "Perfect Sense" is comparable to "Melancholia" as excellent modern-day science fiction films about the premise of environmental deterioration and the related influences / consequences on human psyche and existence.
("Melancholia's" cinematography is also just as important / incredible, an essential part of the film's overall premise.)

The Dreamers where she was clearly not flat chested was made in 2003 and Casino Royale came out 3 years later in 2006. In any case her obviously not flat chest has nothing to do with her lack of popularity. She is an excellent actress with a lot of intensity. I think she might be hard to cast because there she is so not average. I do not know why people keep bringing up Angelina who is very beautiful and not that good of an actress but has been very lucky. No comparison. Eva Green was very good as a repressed lesbian at an all girls school in a a movie called Cracks.

Eva Gaëlle Green (French: [ɡʁin]; Swedish: [ˈɡɾeːn] born 6 July 1980)
She is the daughter of Marlène Jobert, an actress, and Walter Green, a dentist. Her father has acted in film, appearing in Robert Bresson's film Au Hasard Balthazar. Her father is of Swedish, French, and Breton descent, and through him she is the great-granddaughter of the French Breton composer Paul Le Flem. Her mother, a native of French Algeria, later moved to Metropolitan France. Green is Jewish, as is her mother (of Sephardic Jewish heritage). Eva has described herself as “a secular Jew who never attended synagogue as a girl”

[bold]The gist of Ms. Green's sexual harassment experience from Harvey Weinstein:[/bold]
According to Eva's mother Marlène Jobert, between 2010-2011, Eva was a victim of sexual harassment by Harvey Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein harassed Eva for months by constantly calling her and inviting her to meet up in his "office" or more commonly known as his hotel suite - from which Eva escaped. Mr. Weinstein was very persistent and would especially call Eva whenever he's in Paris. Eva would never respond to him because he intimidates her. She's scared of him and the power that he wields. As a result of her rejecting him, Mr. Weinstein threatened to ruin Eva's professional career. When Eva first told Marlène, Marlène was furious and wanted to do something about it but Eva stopped her because of fear. It has taken Eva some time to get over her experience and still refuses to talk about it. She'd like to forget about it.

[quote] she started "Penny Dreadful" as a lesser known cast member on an ensemble show
Incorrect. The writer/creator/producer and director of the show (forgot his name) said he specifically wrote Penny Dreadful for her. That's how people in the Entertainment view her. This was her vehicle and he said she only committed to 2 seasons but because of the popularity, they extended it to three. I thought she was extraordinary in the series, although the last season sucked. And it wasn't a cheap show either as someone said. The budget was huge. Unfortunately, it didn't hit GOT viewing so they could only do 3 seasons.
I believe she could have been a bigger star especially after The Dreamers and Casino Royale where she got rave reviews but she doesn't play the Hollywood game. I wouldn't doubt that Weinstein stifled her career. She preferred staying in Europe and did a tv series after CR.

One again, she completely OWNED her role in Penny Dreadful.
Here's her arguing with a doll, using her voice, possessed by Satan.

Eva is filming Astronaut Drama Proxima
Green will play an astronaut with the European Space Agency (ESA) that is preparing to go on a one-year mission to the International Space Station (ISS), but must first face intense training as well as the impending separation from her 7-year-old daughter.
Winocour says the story takes place as Green’s character prepares to depart. “[It] is just before the launch, which is the worst part of the astronaut’s training. Because when they get in space they are ready for everything, but just before is really the hard part — how to say goodbye to your relatives, how to prepare your body for space,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s really about how you put your fears and pain into something bigger than your life.”
“The idea is also to have an astronaut that can be a superheroine and at the same time a mother, because I think in movies mothers are always very weak characters. It’s time that women should assume that you can be an astronaut and a mother too,”

The exorcism episode of Penny Dreadful was ridiculously good. I rewatch it every so often, along with that Patti LuPone flashback episode.

I am crazy about her. On the screen she is beautiful, smart, and hyper-charismatic.
She played an incredible femme fatale in Sin City 2, strutting around completely naked for a good part of her time in the story, stunningly confident, cunning, and in total control.

She also played a badass warrior in 300: Rise of the Empire. More badass than Angelina.

I first saw Eva in Kingdom of Heaven and thought she was the most beautiful actress I'd ever seen.

How nice that they let Eva into the Academy the same year they let everyone in.

She really should've had a bigger career. She is talented, beautiful and European - everything Hollywood looks for.

She was gorgeous in [italic]Kingdom of Heaven[/italic], r134. I streamed the director's cut not too long ago. It makes much more sense than the original release, plus you get to see Eva Green again.

She said that Harvey Weinstein made an advance and she pushed him away. Wonder if that hurt her career.

I find most movies and TV dramas insipid and banal, I'm a tough cookie, but Penny Dreadful was fantastic.
