Leah Remini: Jada Pinkett Smith Is a Scientologist

Leah Remini: Jada Pinkett Smith Is a Scientologist

The Emmy-winning actress behind the A&E series ‘Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath’ dishes to Marlow Stern about Jada Pinkett Smith’s history with Scientology.

Marlow Stern, 09.16.17 8:30 AM ET

One of the more eyebrow-raising passages in Troublemaker, Leah Remini’s tell-all memoir about her escape from the clutches of Scientology, involves a trio of A-listers: Tom Cruise, Will Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Remini recalls a strange night at Cruise’s lavish estate where she (then a Scientologist) was, along with the Smiths, were asked by Cruise to participate in a game of hide-and-seek. “At first I thought he was joking,” she wrote. “But, no, he literally wanted to play hide-and-seek with a bunch of grown-ups in what was probably close to a 7,000-square-foot house on almost three full acres of secluded land.”

After realizing she was in Jimmy Choo heels, Remini wrote that she declined the offer—which is apparently rare when dealing with a high-ranking Scientologist like Cruise—only to have Cruise approach her, quip, “Well, good. So you’re ‘It,’ then,” and tag her before bolting.

Well, according to Remini, there were three star Scientologists present that evening: herself, Cruise, and Pinkett Smith.

“I know Jada’s in. I know Jada’s in. She’s been in Scientology a long time,” Remini tells The Daily Beast. “I never saw Will [Smith] there, but I saw Jada at the Celebrity Centre. They opened up a Scientology school, and have since closed it. But Jada, I had seen her at the Scientology Celebrity Centre all the time.” (Pinkett Smith did not return multiple requests for comment.)

Remini is referring to the Scientology Celebrity Centre in Hollywood, California, where star-adherents regularly gather to do Xenu knows what. And the since-shuttered “Scientology school” she mentions is New Village Leadership Academy in the tony neighborhood of Calabasas, California, which was largely funded by the Smith family—who subsequently hired much of the staff, many of whom, including the Director of Learning, were Scientologists. Though the Smiths insisted that their school was secular, it touted “Study Technology” as one of its teaching methodologies on its website, a heavily criticized practice devised by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Suri Cruise—daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes—attended the school before it shut its doors in 2013. In addition to the school, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, who are good friends of Cruise’s, reportedly donated $20,000 to Scientology’s literacy campaign HELP.

And while a former high-ranking Scientologist, Mike Rinder (who co-presents the A&E series with Remini), insisted to me a couple of years back that Will Smith was never a Scientologist, Remini claims that Pinkett Smith not only was a Scientologist, but still is.

“I had hoped that she had left [Scientology], but this was the tell-tale sign that she was still in,” said Remini, nodding to the Cruise hide-and-seek anecdote she shared in her book. “She was on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live a few weeks ago promoting her film [Girls Trip], and Andy [Cohen] said to her, ‘Have you read Leah Remini’s book?’ and he was like, ‘What was that whole thing about playing tag?’ and she said, ‘Oh, she lied.’ He goes, ‘Isn’t that weird, to play tag?’ and she goes, ‘No, the kids were there.’ That was untrue. Bullshit. There were no kids there. I was like, okay, alright, you’re gonna do that? More power to ya.”

As far as Remini’s book goes, the Church of Scientology called it “revisionist history” and, in their typical fashion, released a statement assassinating her character.

The Daily Beast’s full interview with Leah Remini will run next week.

Gee... and Will, Jada and their kids always seemed so well balanced!

by Anonymousreply 1September 16, 2017 8:06 PM

Who cares? Leah Remini is such an attention whore.

by Anonymousreply 2September 16, 2017 8:11 PM

and a lesbian

by Anonymousreply 3September 16, 2017 8:21 PM

Not to be a bitch, but I thought it was common knowledge that Will and Jada were $ciento.

What I find interesting is how and why the Co$ is targeting the black community. Why would they do that? you ask. Black communities are generally strongly committed to their Christian churches! Well, don't you want to recruit someone who's already inclined to believe ridiculous things and open their wallets?

The Co$ has a nice new church on E 125th Street in Harlem. It has a fucking CROSS on it. It offers community services. In LA they have a community outreach arm, as well. They've partnered with several black community leaders and pastors. Google it.

Meanwhile, two miles downtown, on a quiet block between Park and Madison, there is a "Celebrity Centre" in a lovely brick townhouse. They offer personality tests and loftier services for optimizing one's potential. A bit of a departure from the services offered uptown.

One more thing. I think they tried REALLY hard to get Oprah. Remember when she had all those $cientos on her show? Tom Cruise jumping the couch, Kirstie Alley in a bikini, John Travolta for whatever... being a wealthy and successful closeted black celebrity, she is probably their Holy Grail. And I suspect Oprah let them get close so she could see how their operation worked. She's into all that New Age garbage - I think she's been at least contemplating a new career as a spiritual leader of some sort.

Anyway, yeah, I knew about Will and Jada. I'm sure the $cientos would rather have Oprah, but the Smiths aren't a bad score.

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2017 8:22 PM

It was just some of our usual heterosexual hijinks to enhance the heterosexual sex life of me and my heterosexual husband Will Smith!

by Anonymousreply 5September 16, 2017 8:37 PM

Is the Celebrity Centre only open to celebrities? If so, if I were a regular scientologist I would be upset. That'd be like having VIP seating at church.

by Anonymousreply 6September 16, 2017 8:37 PM

More than targeting blacks, it seems like COS is targeting gay people.

Cruise, Will, Jada, John Travolta.

My understanding is that they use their power to cover up any "indiscretions" closeted actors have, as well as to help them beard. Just look at how they made all of the Travolta woes just go away.

In return, these actors give "donations" to the "church."

by Anonymousreply 7September 16, 2017 8:40 PM

If that's true about jada, in very disappointed. Black people should stay away from that bull shit. It's not for us. We really need to stop falling for the white man's tricks. It's nothing but poison and toxicity!!

by Anonymousreply 8September 16, 2017 8:47 PM

I'm just happy those grifting, tortuous idiots aren't racist.

by Anonymousreply 9September 16, 2017 8:47 PM

They opened a big ass Southern plantation looking mansion in Atlanta in an expensive area (Sandy Springs). The main spokeswoman is Af Am and they parishioners are largely as well. Obviously Atlanta is a black Mecca but they really pumped up membership there

by Anonymousreply 10September 16, 2017 8:59 PM

When I was in high school a few Mormon kids in high school were desperate to get my black gay friend to visit church with them and convert to Mormonism. It isn't Scientology obviously but I think the desire to get more members is very much the same. Maybe it's to become more diverse and lessen the scrutiny?

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2017 9:15 PM

They target closeted and drug-addicted celebrities. They get them to confess all their 'sins' during auditing, then they've got something to hold over them forever.

by Anonymousreply 12September 16, 2017 10:06 PM

For those of you asking why famous black people? why famous gay people? while using a $ sign to spell $cientology ...

put 2 & 2 together

by Anonymousreply 13September 16, 2017 10:14 PM

I heard her on the Rupaul podcast - it was bizarre to listen because she's talking about how she fell for all their insane bs all while trying to come across as this sassy, street smart take no shit chick and I'm thinking honey, you're either one or the other.

by Anonymousreply 14September 16, 2017 10:38 PM

R2/ R3 is a Scentologist!

by Anonymousreply 15September 16, 2017 10:44 PM

^ Exactly. That's what I was thinking too.

by Anonymousreply 16September 16, 2017 10:58 PM

I'd totally be in for tag at Tom Cruise's house. Despite everything we know, I've flirted with joining the "church." It's not really a religion. It's self-help and I love that stuff. I actually went to the main HQ in Los Angeles 12 years ago out of curiosity. They gave me a personality test which was fun. Then they did the E Meter thing. Then they showed me all levels and they all looked great so they didn't push for me to join. They were like "you're fine." Crazy thing is I was a basket case back then. Everything but fine. I wonder how they decide who gets in the celebrity centers? Would I get in?

by Anonymousreply 17September 16, 2017 11:13 PM

Scientology actually has some good thoughts on modern, western medicine. I'm not saying I don't believe in treating depression and other mental illnesses, but some people may be able to find some help through introspection and therapy alone.

by Anonymousreply 18September 16, 2017 11:17 PM

It's funny, but I was just posed about this on another thread. Sometimes western medicine refuses to acknowledge the role that a healthy lifestyle plays in ones overall health. It loves to push pills and crazy treatments before suggesting lifestyle changes. Too many times, people run off to a doctor to cure their ills before fixing things in their control such as diet, exercise, getting enough sleep and so on.

by Anonymousreply 19September 16, 2017 11:22 PM

R6, the Celebrity Centre in Hollywood is open to the public and frequently has industry events, like movie premiere afterparties, art shows, book signings, acting courses, poetry readings, writers workshops, etc.

by Anonymousreply 20September 16, 2017 11:23 PM

Jesus Fucking Xenu are you stupid or a dissimulating cunt clam at R18? They have such great thoughts about medicine that they deny simple, live-saving treatment to parishioners such as Alexander Jensch and LIsa McPhrson. Therapy or introspection? All psychologists or therapists are entheta and Scienos are forbidden from seeking therapy as it is a threat to their brainwashing practices.

by Anonymousreply 21September 16, 2017 11:23 PM

OK, R21, they take it too far, but what's wrong with trying to make a change for the better before running off to the doctor for every single thing?

by Anonymousreply 22September 16, 2017 11:26 PM

You are acting as though healthy lifestyle promotion is a unique Scientology discovery and gift to the uneducated masses. It seems like you are suggesting people need to exercise their heart disease away before they try medication.

BTW. Scientology does the exact opposite of healthy lifestyle promotion actually pushing practices that are dangerous and life-threatening. Google "purification rundown" and tell me if you think taking massive doses of niacin and sitting in a sauna for hours on end to sweat out toxins improves health. Are you familiar with the symptoms of Niacin OD?

by Anonymousreply 23September 16, 2017 11:32 PM

No, R23, I'm not saying that Scientology invented a healthy lifestyle. I'm saying that people too often run to their doctors and want a cure when I lifestyle change could be all they need. Doctors are more than willing to put people on all kinds of medications and do all kinds of crazy surgeries which are not always needed. There's someone on another thread who says his doctor is pushing for a surgery he doesn't want, yet he refuses to admit that stress/lifestyle is an underlying factor in his condition. How healthy is that? Of course medical intervention is needed at times, but sometimes it is not. You have to admit that.

by Anonymousreply 24September 16, 2017 11:37 PM

WS was desperate to be "The 'Bl*ck' Tammy"; hence the CoS enrollment.

by Anonymousreply 25September 16, 2017 11:39 PM

R18, you either don't know a fucking thing about this money-grabbing scam cult that was created only for profit and for suckering well-intentioned and vulnerable people, or you're the kind of stupid cunt who won't ever shut up until your boyfriend punches you in your fat ugly face so you can have the pleasure of being a victim.

Hubbard didn't have any good ideas. He was a drunk and a drug-addicted psychopath who enjoyed absolute control over the people around him. And the organization continues with Li'l Davey, who is even more transparent about his motives for money and the power money can buy. DO NOT attempt to slip in anything that suggests that any aspect of this criminal organization is good. Fuck you.

This shit is insupportable and you need to eat shit:

[quote]Scientology actually has some good thoughts on modern, western medicine. I'm not saying I don't believe in treating depression and other mental illnesses, but some people may be able to find some help through introspection and therapy alone.

by Anonymousreply 26September 16, 2017 11:45 PM

Remini is fearless. Her doing all this and not reporting being attacked, followed or threatened is a sign of how the $cios are losing it. The whole point is that it has been obvious for years the Pinkett Smith is a clam. If you're committed to the good your pure-hearted organization does, why hide it and lie about it?

Answer: The cult has the goods on her and she can't afford to stand up to them over their blackmail. Same with her hubby.

by Anonymousreply 27September 16, 2017 11:48 PM

Bullshit. Telling someone who is seriously bipolar to not go to a doctor and merely exercise to feel better will likely lead to suicide. I'm bipolar and of course, I don't agree with Co$ on this issue. When I had my big breakdown, I just wanted therapy at the Gay & Lesbian Center to fix my problem. I was practically forced by people that cared about me to go to a doctor. I'm glad they did. I would absolutely be long dead by now if I was told that all I needed was sleep and exercise. I needed meds and lots of it. I've been great for 10 years now with just a couple hiccups.

by Anonymousreply 28September 16, 2017 11:51 PM

R1.....i KNOW you were kidding but yeah, they are well balance.

that dumb looking Jaden is all of a sudden a "model"...... walking down a runway carrying his blond dreads...... P L E A S E !!!

by Anonymousreply 29September 16, 2017 11:52 PM

And, R18, to take the matter a little further. How/Why do you believe Scientology promotes a healthy lifestyle? Quite the opposite, actually. Are you familiar with how it treats members of the Sea Org? They work 14-16 hour weeks 7 days a week, are fed a subsistence diet of mainly rice and beans and whatever slop gets tossed out of the executive or celebrity dining room kitchens. I've read stories from former Sea Org members who've described a Lord of the Flies with a mob of hungry cadets descending on food and fighting for it. They only receive $50/week salary when they do get paid, so getting off base to buy healthy food isn't an option as they are heavily monitored and in the case of Gold Base in Hemet are enclosed by razor wire.

What you say at R24 has nothing to do with Scientology and their practices are quite the opposite. Just ask Karen de la Carriere (sp?), Alexander Jentsch's mother

by Anonymousreply 30September 16, 2017 11:54 PM

I wasn't implying people with real and serious illnesses like bipolar, R28. There are certain conditions that definitely need medical attention.

by Anonymousreply 31September 16, 2017 11:56 PM

R4 You do realize there are actually rich, well educated black people...riiight? Will Smith, LeBron James (using him as an example), Oprah, Robert F. Smith...my point? All they need is a rich, popular, well liked black couple/person and (in their Scio minds) that will influence more black people to come to Scientology...HAHAHA. Black people 1) the ones who go to to church/sing the gospel will not be worshiping Xenu. Xanadu nor will they be interested in how Scientology treats its lower (non rich/non influential) ranking members. No, you see black people understood "ok, you got us the first time...taking us to a secondary location and making us work for you for free....we won't fall for it a second time" lol. Oh and how Scio's "handle" children? No, won't fly. They are so fucking crazy, like deluded in the cabeza.

by Anonymousreply 32September 17, 2017 12:05 AM

R32 here***I meant that Scientology is so fucking crazy and deluded in the cabeza (head) for thinking more black people would join them.

by Anonymousreply 33September 17, 2017 12:07 AM

R31!!! They have to "run to the doctor," as you put it, to find OUT if they have a serious illness.

by Anonymousreply 34September 17, 2017 12:11 AM

They're desperately trying to recruit more bodies as their membership dwindles, hence the deeply weird connection with Nation of Islam

by Anonymousreply 35September 17, 2017 12:12 AM

Scientology is a dangerous cult that fleeces it's members out of as much money as possible. I was lured into their "church" near Dupont Circle in DC years ago by my then boyfriend. He vanished and left me with two thugs in a dark room who berated and insulted me for almost an hour. I became upset and demanded to go several times before they finally let me out. I immediately dumped the boyfriend. Many years later I learned the church had scammed him out of a large inheritance when his mother died. He committed suicide sometime after that.

by Anonymousreply 36September 17, 2017 12:31 AM

[quote] They were like "you're fine." Crazy thing is I was a basket case back then. Everything but fine.

Considering that everyone in COS is batshit crazy, I would take that diagnosis with a grain of salt.

[quote] Hubbard didn't have any good ideas. He was a drunk and a drug-addicted psychopath who enjoyed absolute control over the people around him

Funny how that sounds exactly like Jim Jones and the Jonestown cult.

The only difference is that this cult is more upscale, with a LOT more money.

by Anonymousreply 37September 17, 2017 12:55 AM

Why is Greta Van Susteren a Scieno?

by Anonymousreply 38September 17, 2017 12:58 AM

Sort of OT, but several years ago there was someone on Lipstick Alley (yes, this eldgetgay reads it, or used to) who's friend had a kid who went to school with Willow Smith (their daughter). Apparently Willow was up for oral and anal sex at the tender age range of 10-11, as she apparently offered it up to some boy she liked.

If true, and I did believe it, that tells you all you need to know about the Smiths

by Anonymousreply 39September 17, 2017 1:40 AM

What about Tom Cruise playing hide-and-seek?

The Smith's kids are very creepy. Those kids was catered to by child slave labor.

Oprah will say and do anything for money. This includes looking the other way, when serious crime are occurring, even to children. She is a fraud. She supported Rapist Bill Crosby, the temp staff that were raping children at her BS school in South Africa, and the child slave labor of her Scientology friends.

I am glad that Leah is taking them down. She was brought into it as a small child, so completely not her fault.

by Anonymousreply 42September 17, 2017 1:58 AM

Scientology only attacks psychiatrists because LRH was a failed psychologist who was rejected by them for his wacky theories.

by Anonymousreply 43September 17, 2017 2:58 AM

R32, I would draw your attention to the mostly black members of Jim Jones' cult, who he took to Guyana and made work as slaves in the 1970s.

From what I understand, once a celebrity joins, Miscavige has a team whose sole function is to search through EVERYTHING connected to the person and maintain a file. If they can go back early enough and find something as innocuous as birth records or grade school reports, they obtain and hold onto them. Of course, this also extends to more salacious items such as police records, court documents, etc. They also try to get family members and close friends to speak to them, usually under the guise of doing an interview. Finally, as this the only job these people have, they're constantly researching and updating.

by Anonymousreply 52September 17, 2017 4:30 AM

(R47) If Tom Cruise is an all in Scientologist, he isn't going to question the founder's beliefs. It really must burn him up knowing his ex Katie Holmes is married and breeding with a black man. I believe he thinks the powers of Scientology will help him overcome his homosexuality, and he felt Katie Holmes was the one who could "convert" him. He needs to double down on the belief Scientology will help him gain the strength to get through the humiliation of her leaving him. It must take a lot of self delusion for him to to accept she is with a straight man who was capable of impregnating her without relying on artificial means.

by Anonymousreply 53September 17, 2017 4:40 AM

R53 Sorry, but Katie is bearding again. Jamie is gay-gay-gay. The media is just trying to put these two together as a couple.

If it WORKS it's called "medicine", and if it cannot be proven to work vie a double-blind study, then it is NOT medicine. See? It's pretty easy!

by Anonymousreply 56June 16, 2018 4:31 AM

If I were at Tom Cruise's house and I was told we were playing hide and seek and I was "it," wouldn't the obvious thing be to close your eyes, count to a hundred out loud, then march straight into Tom's bedroom and rummage through all the drawers and closets looking for his dildos, black book of male escorts, etc., while Tom was outside hiding behind a tree or something.
