I am concerned about the different trends from her Mother's time to today. Cindy looked to weigh about 10 lbs. more in many photos of her modeling at or near the same age. It's pretty alarming when '90's Kate Moss photos look voluptuous compared to trends of today. I do think Kaia looks close enough like her mother that campaigns using her will spark some subliminal, cozy nostalgia in viewers and it will = $$$. Get used to it. The entire entertainment industry is all about "insta" celebs. The brands/advertisers, and by extension the booking/casting agencies are interested in individuals who bring with them a significant social media presence. Everything else about the personality is secondary and can be manufactured. Gone are the days when an Elite modeling scout would find the next Paulina in some small village in Croatia.

For anybody in the know: How much does Victoria's Secret have to do with the lack of true personality in today's models? I disagree with comments regarding skinny teens having eating disorders. I'm a woman and was a very skinny teen. Modeled a bit, too, but was not comfortable making a living off my looks, too shy and introverted and was pursuing another career. I never had to diet and could eat whatever I wanted until my my mid-40s. I had friends like that, too. Some people are just naturally thin. I also did not eat much junk food. My family had healthy eating habits. There weren't many snacks around and I never snacked after dinner. It's just how it was. Today's obesity is in part because there are so many junk and snack foods available.

I don't get how Rinna's daughters even signed at all, they are not model material but their mother is a hustler. Their careers will be short-lived. The Gerber family is stunning but they are not perfect. That's good, though, because perfection should not be the goal. Kendall Jenner's failing is that she's tainted by the Kardashians, fame whores extraordinaire. She's pretty but the Kardashian connection dulls the glow.

Of these celebrity spawn, the only two that I could see actually landing a modeling gig on their own without their family name and influence are Kaia and Gigi. I think the fuller eyebrows is what's accentuating Kaia's close set eyes. If a thinner, more groomed eyebrow trend comes back into vogue, it might open her face up a bit more. I think Lily Rose Depp also has an interesting look that's very reminiscent of her mother, Vanessa Paradis, but prettier.

As for her progeny: Presley is one of the worst boys currently working. I have seen him in a handful of shows over the past few seasons (including the current SS18 Ralph Lauren), and he always seems stiff, uncomfortable, awkward, and looks at his feet every time. If not for his parents and their connections, he would not be getting runway work.

Eldergays are so predictable. Yes, the supermodel era is over, but our supermodels were merely prime models, with that "model" look. They weren't THAT beautiful. Linda Evangelista was no more beautiful than a lot of today's models. But, modeling was a bigger thing back then. The fashion press and regular media will want to hype the hell out of comparing Kaia to Cindy and creating a super begat from a super.

And you are correct about the immediate hype surrounding Kaia. According to an article that was linked upthread, she has taken NYFW by storm, although she has done only a few shows. I predict that there is more of that to come for her (and Cindy, by association), and as I indicated in my earlier post, I am already over it. Expect to see her opening and closing show after show and lensing cover after cover at least until people tire of her and the next "big thing" comes along.

I'd argue the women from the prime years of Maxim, FHM, etc. were more beautiful than most models. Primarily because, that's what those magazines were going for - the women who straight men find beautiful/hot, not the women with the distinct looks that serve fashion magazines and haute couture on the runway. These women, like Cindy, were often more relatable, usually had bigger breasts, and, while not exactly full figured, usually looked "healthier" than most models.

They have a certain confidence you can't buy---it comes from being a spoiled princess.. Maybe they do look dead eyed and bored. But that's better than watching some 6' tall teenage hayseed, wearing her mother's dress, clip clop down the runway looking like deer in the headlights. Those days are gone are thankfully so.

To me, the real mind fuck about fashion has always been he fact that the models wearing the clothes could never afford them. They're too young, too unsophisticated, and too broke. BUT----now we have celeb kids on the scene. And they DO have money (or their parents do) so they don't look stupid wearing clothes they've never seen before. They've been wearing expensive designer clothes all their lives and can model the shit out of them. So, for me, the choice to use them is at least consistent with who they are in RL.

R453, you make a good point. And I'm guessing the Crawford-Gerber girl stands to make several million if she has a similar career trajectory to that of her mother's.

Kaia is already getting million dollar campaigns. One of her first was in TV ads for Marc Jacobs' perfume Daisy, which are even shown on UK TV. The next ten years she will probably be working as much as she can, so she's not even going to finish high school, yet alone go to college.

This doesn't mean she'll miss out of fun - the after parties she goes to will be far more fun than university ones, ffs.

For all of you that have mentioned how healthy and what a relatable body Cindy Crawford was back in her heyday, here's a short anecdote for you.

In the mid-90's I was invited to a nightclub opening in Beverly Hills. In the confusion of the paparazzi going crazy, I ended up in the SUPER VIP section and not the regular VIP section I was supposed to be in. So as I'm walking in, to my amazement, Cindy Crawford is right in front of me.

She, of course, was gorgeous looking and the paps were going crazy taking her photos, but what amazed me was how unbelievably skinny she was, especially since she was the "healthier" looking supermodel at that time. I was standing inches away from her as we walked in and I kid you not, her waistline was so tiny that I could probably have wrapped my hands around her waist and have my fingers touch.

So if that was "healthy" I can't even imagine what the skinnier models of the day looked like in real life.

Oh and I'm a 5'10 guy and Cindy in heels towered over me

PS: she was very nice and we chatted as we made our way through the throng of people into the club. She was friendly and chatty, and if only we had smartphones back then, I'd have a great pic to share with you guys, but alas technology wasn't there yet.

Not surprised. Photographs/film can be so deceptive in regards to body size. I remember seeing a video of a dancer who was taller than average and looked, not fat, but round muscled. It doesn't distinguish between celebrity spawn who are actual models, you know making money in a career as a model, and simply celeb kids whose mom or dad know some fashion people who hooked up their kids with a chance to walk the runway. Back in the day, a friend of mine managed to snag an Elite agency comp card book. I remember that Cindy's stats were: 5'9 1/2, 126 lbs, size 6-8. She was most definitely healthier than Linda, Naomi and even Claudia. It was one of the reasons why she didn't do runway work very often (Versace was an exception....). Similar to Tyra Banks and Elle Macpherson, Cindy had a body type that was ideal for bathing suits and lingerie.

The only really successful nepotism in the history of modeling world was Dorian Leigh and her sister Suzy Parker.

Dorian was already one of the top models in the world when she pushed her little sister Suzy into modeling. Suzy soon surpassed her big sister in the fashion world becoming the most famous model in the world and then she had a short career in Hollywood. Both of them were undeniably stunning women even by today's standards.

An argument can be made for the first celebrity spawn models were Margaux Hemingway and her little sister Mariel Hemingway, granddaughters of Ernest. But they both had short modeling careers and never the impact of Dorian and Suzy

This is a serious question: that Lily girl looks like she's special needs - like if I saw her on the street I would think how good it was she's able to go out in public. Of course, your observation isn't true at all, you cannot buy class, Being around "fashion and designer clothes" has nothing to do with being able to carry off a certain look. You statement is laughable.

Most celebrities haven't gone to charm school, few have manners. Most of them are nouveau riche, most don't have a clue how the real upper class carry themselves. Decorum, style and class cannot be bought.

There are exceptions to the rule, Pat Cleveland was such a model. Though not from wealth, Pat looked sophisticated, she had a certain look for editorial layouts as well couture and the runway. Pat was one of Halston's top models, as well as a muse to the late fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. Pat was a working class gal who transcended her roots. Pat was discovered on a NYC subway.

I've noticed Coach has been mining their own archives and re-purposing the original bags and the fashions of their most well known designer, Bonnie Cashin.

Coach are simply presenting these styles to a new audience. There's basically nothing new there, except the new Coach 'designer' has been adding flower embellishments and dinosaurs to what were their old iconic and some hard-to-find vintage Cashin bags. Most of the new Coach coats are ugly, all they had to do was copy Cashin's fabulous coat styles. I won't even get started on their shoes which look orthopedic.

I linked a Cashin coat from the 1970s, it still looks current to me. All Coach had to do was re-issue this and all the other great Cashin styles.

Gigi looks appropriately model-y at R541. It's a good pic. Kate Moss's daughter is cute, but she's so young, so who knows how she;ll turn out.

Models don't have to be drop dead gorgeous but should be, again, "model-y" -- striking in some way, confident, attitude beneath the face; something that pulls you to look (and that can be great beauty, but it's not required). I agree that Crawford's kid really can't pull it off.

But, does any of it really matter. Culture and tastes change. We live in celeb obsessed culture even more than before. If putting a well known celeb's daughter on the cover of a magazine will sell it, then that's what they'll do. And, editorial often isn't even the kids, but just every day celebs themselves. A huge number of people seem to love that.
