Good.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 9, 2017 9:27 PM |
Wasn't Rachel recently in some lezzie film with Nomi Rapace that was a huge flop? Nice to see she hasn't given up on this genre yet.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 9, 2017 9:33 PM |
The lezzie stuff shouldn't be a stretch for McAdams. I guess she needs to find a niche now everyones forgotten who she is.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 9, 2017 9:35 PM |
Can someone link a trailer for this film if one is available?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 9, 2017 9:37 PM |
Trailer not yet available.
Have to use your imagination👠
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 10, 2017 1:10 AM |
Wish it were Winslett instead of McAdams.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 10, 2017 1:12 AM |
I love McAdams, and I will watch this movie only because of her.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 10, 2017 1:16 AM |
Why don't they do a remake of Rachel, Rachel?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 10, 2017 1:19 AM |
Me, too R7
There is something not- sexual about her. And she seems more girl ( woo girl) than woman.

Rachel and Rachel?
The Rachels
The Mirror Has Two Rachels
¿Rachel?

Hadn't heard about this, thank you.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 10, 2017 2:55 AM |
I'd prefer Chastain over McAdams.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 10, 2017 3:37 AM |
Agree Kate Winslet is breathtaking.
But McAdams will absolutely do. Rachel Weisz has a very intriguing look. Extremely attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 10, 2017 3:46 AM |
I was really sick for about 6 years and have now watched probably a third of all the films ever made, including most of McAdams' oeuvre. One of the worst films ever made is her amnesia un-love story with Channing Tatum, The Vow. It's absolutely hilariously bad and you should all watch it. She was good as a baby butch solider in The Lucky Ones. Weird face. She never looks like the same person twice. Even her eyes seem to change color.
Weisz never gives a bad performance.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 10, 2017 5:46 PM |
Yay!! Does it open this fall?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 10, 2017 6:06 PM |
Rachel has always pinged to me. any info?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 10, 2017 6:16 PM |
I'm guessing McAdams is a very private person, because I never hear any gossip about her. She certainly doesn't play the media game the way Angelina or J Law do.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 10, 2017 6:36 PM |
r18, there've been a number of blind items about her and someone here who worked with her posted about not liking her, but didn't specify why.
The rumors have included: closeted, seen at dyke bars in Toronto and lesbian house parties in LA with soft butch Latinas and that she had a secret baby in Canada, which she gave to her brother.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 10, 2017 6:52 PM |
I like her, I still need to see Denial.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 10, 2017 6:55 PM |

Unbelievable.

rachel looks washed out as a blond. She was so gorgeous in Wedding Crashers.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 10, 2017 11:03 PM |
She also looked great in The Notebook, and I really liked her part in Spotlight.

I would prefer Winslet and McAdams over Weisz. Winslet is top of my list...
Want to see Atomic Blonde too!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 11, 2017 8:32 PM |
Denial is total garbage, not even fun on a camp level, just fucking awful and it looks like it had a LifeTime Movie budget. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo's head is enormous and really strangely angled; did she have work done after moving to LA?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 11, 2017 8:38 PM |
McAdams must love this role as she loves the ladies..........
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 11, 2017 8:50 PM |
Rachel Weisz has got the look. Trust me, there's a lot going on there and one wouldn't be disappointed.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 13, 2017 3:00 AM |
A dangerous look. I'm so attracted to her.

Tried, but I don't care for her writing style. The story does sound very good.
This is the first time I've ever looked forward to a movie TRAILER release.

by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 14, 2017 1:56 AM |
McAdams is very pretty, but she's kind of short.
Weisz is hot -- sensual, compelling beauty. And she is at least 5'6"

Does someone else think McAdams is lucky she dodged a bullet with Gosling. He is a complete nobody now, can't get a decent film role anymore and is still doing stupid PR stunts at Disneyland with Eva Mendes.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 14, 2017 2:25 AM |
Rachel McAdams, who's her gf?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 23, 2017 4:21 PM |
Just saw this film at the Toronto International Film Festival -- Weisz and McAdams have *amazing* chemistry (seriously), and their makeout/love scenes are hot. Both Rachels were great.
The movie itself was somewhat disappointing, though, with -- among other problems -- too much focus on the male character (Alessandro Nivola as a rabbi/McAdams' husband), IMO. It would have been better had the story really explored the women and their complex relationship, esp. McAdams' character, who's a deeply closeted lesbian struggling with her desires (not a spoiler, btw).
For someone upthread who asked, there isn't a trailer yet, and the film isn't slated for release until, I think, May or June 2018.

Thanks for the details, R46.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 11, 2017 8:28 PM |
Happy to oblige, R47, as I was really looking forward to this one. Reviews for the film are now coming out, and seem to be positive on the whole (see link).
One correction: looks like there's no North American distribution plan/date yet.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 12, 2017 2:28 AM |
I have followed RW's career since the late 90s. I was a smitten teenager. She's always pretty good in everything.
I really liked "Agora," where she was the math genius in ancient Egypt. Not seen widely, but her performance and the story were compelling.
Also, "The Enemy at the Gates" too.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 12, 2017 6:34 AM |
Btw, in case anyone is interested, there are several other lesbian dramas coming soon to theaters near you (these are all screening at TIFF this week):
* My Days of Mercy (Ellen Page and Kate Mara)
* A Worthy Companion (Evan Rachel Wood seducing a teenaged girl)
* Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote in a polyamorous relationship w/ Luke Evans, film directed by Angela Robinson)
* Thelma (Norwegian thriller about a lesbian college student with telekinetic powers)

My Days of Mercy (clip more than a trailer)
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 13, 2017 8:11 PM |
Just saw "Professor Marston & the Wonder Women" (also at TIFF) and it was great – really interesting story, with fantastic chemistry between all three leads, especially so between the women. I enjoyed it much more than "Disobedience," likely because – even though it's pretty conventional and more tame – it was a tighter film overall, with stronger performances.

In their interviews during TIFF, McAdams looks in love with Weisz.
April 2018 release in US. No trailer yet.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 20, 2017 1:32 AM |
Trailer looks amazing. Don't spoil it if you know but I hope it doesn't end depressingly, especially considering the tone of the trailer. They are hot together. I think every lesbian in the world is attracted to Weisz and about 99% to McAdams so yay! And, unlike a certain other current movie, they both look like adults so no pedo vibe.

by Anonymous | reply 86 | February 5, 2018 10:50 PM |
I do not find Rachel Weiss pretty at all. Very sharp features and a large nose. McAdams on the other hand has adorable dimples and a great smile and tight body with a great booty. Not sure if she is gay though.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | February 5, 2018 11:20 PM |
I've always confused the two, not that they look alike but now my head will explode because they are in the same movie. They are actually going to be in love so this is even more of a mind fuck for me.

[quote]Wasn't Rachel recently in some lezzie film with Nomi Rapace that was a huge flop? Nice to see she hasn't given up on this genre yet.
Yes. A $25 million budget movie with a $1 million box office. The movies at r55 were all flops, too. People like lesbians on TV but not in the big screens, it seems. Or at least I can't think of a single lesbian movie that became a hit, "Carol" coming the closest.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | February 5, 2018 11:44 PM |
Weisz is beautiful. She's a morph of Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Camryn Diaz.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | February 5, 2018 11:48 PM |
Weisz has an interesting look. I don’t see the appeal of McAdams.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | February 5, 2018 11:53 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 93 | February 6, 2018 1:47 AM |
Weisz was never on my radar but McAdams sure was. She does look pretty dowdy in this film though (that's probably the point) and Weisz looks rather alluring. This should be hot.

Movie looks interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | February 8, 2018 1:10 AM |
Finally! The trailer looks GREAT.
Watching it makes me once again realize how rare it is to see gay relationships played out on the big screen. There is nothing good about being invisible, which is partly why I am so excited about this film.
That, and for the first time ever BOTH leads are extremely attractive. Rachel Weisz, my God. A total turn on.

Always thought McAdams had a bit of a dyke-y vibe. (I love her, btw.) She got the lesbian half-smile.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | February 8, 2018 11:38 PM |
well the girl is bisexual and her ex lover is also with a man. If the movie is directed by a woman, they will more than likely be together. If its directed by a man then more than likely they won't be together. However, its about Jews and I have a fetish for Jewess', so I'll watch it-pirately.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | February 8, 2018 11:41 PM |
R102 This is the only thing that annoys me a bit (as a lesbian) - that it's once again the same old "being with a man.. huge internal struggle.. (secretly) being with a woman.. probably going back to the man'-thing. They won't ever tire of the "forbidden love"-thing. I get it, it's more exciting for straights, but Jesus gimme actual gay people, ffs.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | February 8, 2018 11:46 PM |
It’s based on a book by Naomi Alderman. I won’t give away the ending.
The director is male, and apparently he did a great job. There is a six minute sex scene that set the TIFF on fire — Rachel Weisz straddles McAdams and slowly lets spit drip into her mouth.
I agree R103 the whole ‘forbidden love’ thing is annoying. But for a sex scene that is supposed to be this good, I can definitely overlook it.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | February 8, 2018 11:53 PM |
A six minute sex scene=director did a good job?
Damn, our standards are low. but lets be real, that sex scene is the only thing that will get butts in those seats.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | February 8, 2018 11:59 PM |
6 minutes? Alright then. I was gonna watch it anyway but now I surely will. But damn.. who's into the spitting spit in someone's mouth thing? Am I being a prude?
by Anonymous | reply 106 | February 9, 2018 12:05 AM |
well i have pissed in someone's mouth but not spit. And yes, sadly women tend to be prudes sexually especially lesbians.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | February 9, 2018 12:16 AM |
Well I do love sex and have lots of it, but I'm just not into the whole spitting/pissing/shitting in/on somebody stuff. Not sure if that's prudish.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | February 9, 2018 12:22 AM |
yeah lesbians tend to lack exploration in the bed R107. even getting them to partake in strap on sex is hard.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | February 9, 2018 12:36 AM |
spoiler-it is a sweet ending but they dont...
I wont finish the sentence.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | February 9, 2018 1:28 AM |
Well, I thought the sex in "Blue" was awful, so... Hell, I've seen Julianne Moore do better lesbian sex scenes than that.
I don't expect much.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | February 9, 2018 1:35 AM |
R101 for me McAdams is a mystery. There are some interviews, pictures and even movies where she pings so hard and then other times she comes across like a typical boring straight chick with her boyfriends. Her taste in man baffles me....except Gosling.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | February 9, 2018 7:28 AM |
[quote]The director is male, and apparently he did a great job.
Not really. I posted way upthread (back in September 2017) that I'd seen the film at TIFF and, while the actresses have fantastic chemistry, the director makes the movie more about the male character (Alessandro Nivola, who play's McAdams' rabbi husband) than the two women, which I found disappointing.
As for the epic love scene, I found it less powerful than the stolen-moments scenes the characters share beforehand. The spitting-in-the-mouth thing yanked me right out of the movie and made me wonder if that was the (male) director's idea of something (male) audiences would find hot. Most people I talked to who also saw the film had the same reaction I did -- that it was gratuitous and kind of gross.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | February 9, 2018 1:23 PM |
R113 This is what I thought - the spitting must've been the idea of a man. I'm not judge-y at all, but this just isn't something most lesbians/women are into. Just because straight women let this happen when sleeping with a man doesn't mean they like it. IMO this has nothing to do with being prudish either.. it's a matter of preferences. Being prudish would mean you actually want it but don't dare to do it and I'm quite open minded in bed still I've yet to meet a woman who's into that.
Why can't a woman direct a movie about 2 women, Jesus. But nice to hear their chemistry is good at least!
by Anonymous | reply 114 | February 9, 2018 6:36 PM |
Sorry, OP, I don't care about lesbians.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | February 9, 2018 6:44 PM |
R114 because when women direct female on female romance movies, it doesn't sale. All of the movies that featured female on female relationships and did decent in the theatres were all directed by males. Men know how to use sex because what...sex sells especially if that sex is between two women and they want men to see the movie.
Even that movie that was directed by Angela something, that lesbian who worked on The L word, even her movie Professor Martson and the Wonder Woman bombed at the box office, and that movie not only was about Wonder Woman, but also a polygamous triad who created Wonder Woman(Professor Martson, the wife, and their live in girlfriend); not only that but it had A-List actors in it, but it still bombed!
R113 is absolutely right; however, I actually enjoyed the sex scene and I'm looking forward to watching that again. And as R115 "I don't care about lesbians" the reality is most people don't care about lesbians. They much rather sex bisexual women with men and experimenting, and fooling around with women, even proclaiming their love but at the end-well, you know.

IMO Rachel W is bi as is 007. RW has had rumours from her university days that she was into women. Why would she have been looking for lesbian books and stories to bring to the screen? Do straight women do that? RM has had lesbian rumours about her for ages. These low profile actresses usually have a gf somewhere. Also she doesn’t play the Hollywood “suck a dick”game because she’s gay and wouldn’t do that to get a role like other straight actresses.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | March 17, 2018 12:52 PM |
[quote]Why would she have been looking for lesbian books and stories to bring to the screen? Do straight women do that?
Actually - yeah, maybe. Actresses, especially those over 40, are always on the lookout for good roles, any good ones, since there are far fewer for them than there are for men. And a story about lesbians is going to be a story about WOMEN, of which there are pathetically few. I've never heard of Rachel W. being bi - she was known for fucking her male co-stars and directors back in the day, including Alessandro Nivola, with whom she's reunited in this. It was almost a bit of a joke, it happened so often.
The book is a mixed bag for sure, but Ronit and Esti are great roles for any actress. I can see why a straight actress would be attracted to the project.

Is it just me, or is Bleecker Street barely promoting this film?
It opens next week, but they've had the same trailer out there for months, and only one or two clips released. I believe it's supposed to be at the Tribeca festival so hopefully will get some mileage out of that.

Weisz married to 2 gay guys Craig and Aronofsky of course she's a lesbian

Lol! R144 are you for real? If a bi or lesbian wants a baby she can make this any way she wants. A dick isn’t even required. Tom Cruise has kids and he’s gay. Lesbian couples have kids. Anyway, this is a waste of time.....

Here, let me answer that: No.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | April 30, 2018 1:02 PM |
Mcadams had a lot of gay rumours in the early days. I think a lot of them came from Lainey? That was back in the day when she wasn’t full of shit. Definitely remember thinking she was very dykey back then. Weisz has too. I caught her eye at a premiere in London so I definitely believe she’s bi. She was dating that Neil guy who was a total perve. I reckon she’d be into threesomes with her male partner.

I don’t know what it is about Rachel McAdams, but she is so off putting to me. I can’t watch anything with her in it.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | April 30, 2018 4:29 PM |
r154, did you watch her in True Detective? For that role, she got rid of her über-polite façade, which might be what you otherwise find repellent.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | April 30, 2018 4:54 PM |
R153 I was referring to Lainey not Mcadams. It was far enough back that I can’t remember where I read about her being gay but a Canadian based site would make sense.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | April 30, 2018 7:11 PM |
R152 Weisz been with at least 2 bi guys that I’ve read about, Aronofsky and Daniel Craig. I’ve heard before that they’re into threesomes so I think she definitely been with women before same as McAdams.

Weisz spits in McAdams mouth as they have sex. IIRC it's after she goes down on her. Think that champagne scene from My Beauitiful Laundrette (1:34) but with copious spit.

The Rachels are great together but the spitting made gag. Barf!
by Anonymous | reply 181 | May 28, 2018 4:23 AM |
The spitting just feels like something a man would write, not something two women like the ones presented in the film would actually do. It's not in the book. Both the director Sebastian Lelio and a female screenwriter, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, are credited with the script, and I would bet money that the spitting was Lelio's own addition.
I thought the film was interesting but somehow never quite clicked - which is the way I felt about the novel it's based on. I did appreciate the change in ending, though. The book's ending was one of its flaws IMO - I always got the impression that the author just sort of ran out of gas.
by Anonymous | reply 182 | May 28, 2018 5:22 AM |
I never read the book and didn’t want to. I wanted the experience of the film without thinking about the book. I thought the commitment of the Rachels was what made the movie though. It was pretty authentic and the relationship was authentic. The spitting didn’t bother me because I’d read as kids Ronit had licked the blood of Esti’s scraped knee or something so their swapping fluids was their private kink.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | May 28, 2018 6:26 AM |
I'll watch it when it's on Netflix.

[quote]The spitting just feels like something a man would write, not something two women like the ones presented in the film would actually do.
Rachel Weisz said she was the one who edited the sex scene.
Plus, gay and bi women are not vanilla like straight women. They tend to have the highest rates of participation in BDSM activities. And I know a study showing that queer women are as likely to take part in "water sports" as gay and bi men. So it could've been worse than the spitting, believe me.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | May 28, 2018 8:48 PM |
Does anyone know how much did this movie cost to be made?
It has has made $3Mi in the box office so far, but it's hard to know whether this is good or bad because no budget information seems to be available.
by Anonymous | reply 186 | May 28, 2018 8:50 PM |
It would have been much better if Rachel Mac's character was played by a Jewish actress. I didn't believe her, sadly. Too many movies with Mac recently and most of them terrible to see her in such a role.
Nicola's lowered voice was at times frustrating but he was very good.
Maggie G in the McAdams role would have been 1000 times better.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | May 28, 2018 9:04 PM |
Disobedience had a 6 million dollar budget.
[quote]Funding Disobedience came naturally for Weisz’s team, who despite their Hollywood insider status are no stranger to small budgets, indie collaborations, and cobbling it all together. Element Pictures, Braven Films, Film4 Productions, and FilmNation Entertainment co-financed the $6 million production, which officially lists 15 individual producers.

I’ll spoil the ending...
... Weisz returns to New York. Alessandro gives up his dream of becoming a Rabbi because he is married to a lesbian and because he is ultimately an ethical and honest man, sets he McAdams free. McAdams both loves her community and decides to be honest about her sexuality to her husband, so pregnant to Alessandro, she sleeps on the sofa and with his blessing plans to move out to live as a single gay mother and remain being an Orthodox Jewish schoolteacher.

I don't think this movie is faring very well in the box office. It has only made $3.4 million despite having been released 1.5 month ago. That is less than 60% of its production budget.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | June 14, 2018 7:21 PM |
The director is the same guy who made A FANTASTIC WOMAN, which won the foreign film Oscar this year.
I thought the script was very uneven, but all three leads are excellent. One poster complained about the amount of focus on Nivola's character, but the story is truly a triangle, and he is excellent. I've been lukewarm about McAdams, but she's exceptional here.

As for Disobedience, it's turning out to be a disappointment. Domestically, it has made only $3.4 mil, slightly more than half its production budget, and numbers are getting worse.

I agree. She's a wonderful actress and captivating in this film, but I was so distracted by her moles, most especially the big one on the side of her face near her ear.

I don’t find Rachel McAdams to be a great actress. There is no good reason for her to receive an Oscar nomination forbSpotlight, for instance, other than her general popularity. She is good in this because the role plays off her loveliness. She’s a lovely woman, one women find beautiful and men want to marry. But she did not convince me as to why she would remain faithful to ultra-Orthodox Judaism. Other than that she worked at a good school and the singing was marvellous, as a community was factional, hard and aggressive.
This is going to sound blasphemous but Rachel Weisz l at least a decade too old to play her role. I’m not saying she’s not pretty, thin, or that she isn’t hotter than almost all women her age, she’s all that. But there’s no reason why a woman pushing 50 would be as immature and destructive personally amd sexually as she is other than her being really regressive and mentally ill. Though as a producer she gets first dibs on the role. If they really wanted to cast a Jew (and half the cast weren’t) someone like Natalie Portman or Eva Green would be more age appropriate.
