In The Cut starring Meg Ryan

This was an unequivocal bomb upon its release. One of the only films to ever get an F Cinemascore.

Meg Ryan played against type and soon went on to get that plastic surgery.

Am I the only one here who kinda digs it?

Beautifully shot. Well directed. Jennifer Jason Leigh is great as always. Mark Ruffalo is good. I cannot stand Meg Ryan, but I really liked her in this.

The suspense that it does have, is well done.

And I read the book and found it to be a pretty damn good adaptation.

Anyone like it?

i liked it. have the dvd. which came from my brother and sis in law...... JJL was excellent, as always. kinda creepy but interesting.

by Anonymousreply 1August 5, 2017 4:02 PM

it's pure shit!

by Anonymousreply 2August 5, 2017 4:02 PM

I thought I was the only one who liked it! And if I remember correctly, there was Ruffalo dong.

by Anonymousreply 3August 5, 2017 4:05 PM

Yes, His dong appears semi fluffed though. Looks kind thick with a nice head.

I really like this goddamned film!

And I do respect Meg a little more for taking the chance.

This is the kind of film Sofia Coppola tries to make but does not have the modesty, intellect or sense of dark romance to pull off.

It is one of Campin's best, and most accessible, in my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 5August 5, 2017 6:47 PM

I love everything Campion does and this film was no different. There are quite a few East Village locations in the film. In fact, I remember seeing Meg Ryan crossing Second Ave one day while the film was in pre-production.

I believe the ending was changed vs the novel, which ends with the protagonist's death. I can't remember what Campion said, why the different ending in the film.

The red lighthouse on the Hudson where the final scene takes place. I used to pass it on my bike rides.

I watched it for Ruffalo cock and wasn't disappointed. Looked very suckable.

by Anonymousreply 8August 5, 2017 7:51 PM

Another "like" for this movie. It certainly hasn't gotten the credit it deserves, and I don't need a critic to tell me what to watch.

by Anonymousreply 9August 5, 2017 8:01 PM

The use of the red lighthouse on the chalk board as a phallic symbol was a little egregious but I admired the film, and Ryan's performance. Campion is an intelligent and literate director, much in her work is to be valued.

the severed head in the sink!! come on now........

by Anonymousreply 11August 6, 2017 6:36 PM

I thought Mark Ruffalo was fucking sexy in this. One of those actors who exudes sexiness naturally and not trying to show off a worked-out body to come off as sexy. His character had a hint of danger to him which made him even sexier. He was the type of guy who would fuck you good, eat you out and you knew he would give you the fuck of a lifetime.

by Anonymousreply 12August 6, 2017 6:43 PM

Meg's tits put the public off.

by Anonymousreply 13August 6, 2017 6:46 PM

Does "the cut" refer to Ruffalo's dick?

by Anonymousreply 14August 6, 2017 6:49 PM

Meg's character is a linguistics or language researcher. "The Cut" is slang for cunt.

by Anonymousreply 15August 6, 2017 8:03 PM

I liked it, even if I didn't I would have given it an A+ for Mark Ruffalo's meaty cock.

by Anonymousreply 16August 6, 2017 8:45 PM

Meg only got the part because Nicole Kidman was too busy.

I own the unrated DVD and there's a hardcore scene that was trimmed for the theatrical version.

by Anonymousreply 17August 6, 2017 9:18 PM

R13 is correct.

Would that I could unsee Meg Ryan's saggy, cone-shaped titty bags.

Shudder.

by Anonymousreply 18August 6, 2017 9:30 PM

I loved it and also have the DVD. Campion was able to translate a wordy book focused on language to film. Remember "petal storm" and those subway poems?

I liked it. It was very dark and very... adult. Everyone gave a good performance.

I'd read the book and forgotten that I had. Then I saw the movie and it was an eerie recognition.

Making mental note to re-read the book.

"Midway along the journey of our life / I woke to find myself in a dark wood, / for I had wandered off from the straight path." -Dante

I always wondered if NY actually had poetry snippets on its subways or if this was just a device.

I read the book. I liked it. The movie was terrible.

The ending of the book was a shocker. Campion changed it; she gave it a happy ending! She said she didn't think viewers could "handle" the intensity of the book's ending. Idiot.

by Anonymousreply 22August 6, 2017 10:41 PM

I read the book a year before it was adapted for film and I was really excited when I heard Campion was directing it - one of my top five favorite directors. I thought the book was bold and I enjoyed Susanna Moore's prose. The ending felt very Looking For Mr. Goodbar. But the movie was a bit of a letdown. I liked it better on a second viewing.

by Anonymousreply 23August 6, 2017 11:27 PM

I couldn't stand meg for gatecrashing this film, hurlyburly and restoration. If I wanted to see her wide-eyed shtick then I would have watched all her shitty tom hanks films. She always does this thing where she looks amazed at some point. In all 3 fucking films. She should have stayed in romcom land.

by Anonymousreply 24August 7, 2017 10:46 AM

The ice skating scenes were risible. Kevin Bacon is terrible. Meg Ryan is all wrong for this.

by Anonymousreply 25August 7, 2017 3:31 PM

I think Nicole Kidman was to have starred in this but wisely backed out. The big deal about this movie was supposedly Meg Ryan's sex scenes. America's twittery voiced cutie pie sweetheart shown getting RIMMED...oh my God! IT was supposed to be so titillating. Actually, it wasn't that big of a deal. It wasn't erotic at all. Anyway, this movie had a big build up but turned out to be pretty dismal. A major disappointment.

by Anonymousreply 26August 7, 2017 6:14 PM

NO PIC OF RUFFALLO DONG????

by Anonymousreply 27August 7, 2017 6:16 PM

Lily Allen’s mother Alison Owen produced this movie and sat squirming in a screening room with Harvey Weinstein while he masturbated over Meg’s tits.

I like the movie a lot. New Tork looked very grimy and interesting. Meg was great. I loved the ice skating kitsch.

Mark Ruffalo is so fucking sexy in this. Kind of the fantasy NYC cop.

Do they still have moustaches?

by Anonymousreply 32August 3, 2018 11:05 PM

I loved the creepy version of Que Sera Sera used in the opening.
