The doco on Scotty Bowers, the legendary Hollywood procurer, is premiering September at the Toronto film festival. Cannot fucking wait! What a smoking hot piece he was back in the day!

Yes, I'll believe everything he said because of a movie.

^ I have no words.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 2, 2017 10:06 AM |
A lot of bitter old ladies of both sexes will have to eat their words after this screens. The plain find it hard to believe the offers attractive people have. I know a very handsome very sensual guy who gets outrageous offers all the time. On the scale of 'come back to my superyacht' stuff. He can land in a city and in half a morning be hooked up with its elite. So I have no problem believing Bowers, even so far as the Windsors. After all, someone here a few years ago said they were chased round his suite at the Waldolf as a florist delivery boy.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 2, 2017 2:28 PM |
Why would this be any more believable than the book?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 2, 2017 2:33 PM |
Man, if there ever was a name that triggered DL, Scotty Bowers has to be it. Hopefully the movie's not total garbage, even half-way decent garbage would be okay.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 2, 2017 2:34 PM |
Everything PR-unfriendly being said about a rich or celeb is a vicious lie or elsewise false.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 2, 2017 2:45 PM |
Gore Vidal said he was what he said he was. I don't understand why gay men are so adamant it's untrue. It's just self loathing.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 2, 2017 2:49 PM |
[quote]Why would this be any more believable than the book?
Because it features interviews with Hollywood insiders. I'm not sure if they got Debbie Reynolds before her death (she mentions him in her book) but they did get others.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 2, 2017 2:51 PM |
I read the book and I found it somewhat believable except I got really bored about a third of the way through.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 2, 2017 2:54 PM |
I think people would be more inclined to believe him if he wasn't lying about his own sexuality. That's the part that undermines everything else he says, for most people. I believe what he says about celebs, but there's no way he's straight. Bi, maybe.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 2, 2017 2:54 PM |
I don't think he's lying. Like some highly sexed people he's omnisexual. But more than that, he comes across as a savant -- in this case, a sexual savant. He had a clear talent for pleasing people beyond just having a big dick, and keeping his mouth shut, and being honest and reliable. In Hollywood, an all-business town, that was clearly gold. The book reads awkwardly because it's obviously an assemblage of taped conversations, so blame his writer.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 2, 2017 3:02 PM |
We have some older gay gentlemen say that "Yeah, that's pretty much how things were back then" when asked about Bowers book. I agree about Bowers being Bi, I mean really. No one is that comfortable, and even enthusiastic, about sex with other men without being at least Bi.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 2, 2017 3:10 PM |
Scotty is the real deal. I absolutely believe him based purely on my days as a young guy at UCLA when I was invited to Hollywood parties and propositioned by all kinds of freaks. Hollywood couples, closeted stars, the lot. I've always said Hollywood is the most sexualized environment on the planet and full of freaks.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 2, 2017 3:16 PM |
Right. He's not "straight", and no one believes that or should. He'd heighten his credibility if he wasn't stating that nonsense.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 2, 2017 3:16 PM |
I had to stop reading after the Charles Laughton section. Maybe I'll pick it up again.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 2, 2017 3:17 PM |
Yes R21, that was gross. I don't want to see that re enacted on screen.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 2, 2017 3:19 PM |
R19, HI! I'm curious, did you turn them down? What happened when/if you turned them down (let's face it, many were not attractive) and if that became detrimental to your life.
I know it hurt my life.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 2, 2017 3:19 PM |
I think I posted this before, but I turned down Jon Voight twice, 10 years apart. First time, he still looked really good- of course so did I.

I have a hard time believing that Katherine Hepburn used so many young women sexually, prostitutes or starlets, but then again that is a trait of a narcissist to exploit others.
Most women make emotional bonds but narcissists/sociopathic women do not.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 2, 2017 4:51 PM |
I don't buy the Katharine Hepburn stuff at all.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 2, 2017 4:57 PM |
No, Jon did not remember. I must be his type, lol.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 2, 2017 5:00 PM |
Hepburn bearded for Spencer Tracy for years. They have double platinum bearding status.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 2, 2017 5:06 PM |
God, I would think the Hepburn stuff is the most bleeding obvious. She's practically defines the subset hard bony dyke.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 2, 2017 5:07 PM |
Oh please. K Hepburn lived on Cukor's estate which was Gay Central.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 2, 2017 5:08 PM |
What I don't understand about the supposed Hepburn/Tracy bearding is that it wasn't known by the general public at the time, so what was the point? I think there was some kind of relationship. Maybe they were both Bi? Katharine dated several other men as well-highly sexed so I'm not buying the full on lez.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 2, 2017 5:15 PM |
Sounds like another Hollywood Babylon book made into a movie.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 2, 2017 5:16 PM |
The bearding, in closet re Hepburn - yes, but not what he said about getting women/prostitutes through "Scotty."
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 2, 2017 5:17 PM |
I always assumed the book was about 50% true and 50% embellished, with some stories being almost entirely true, some being almost entirely untrue, and some being a mixture of both.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 2, 2017 5:25 PM |
If Scotty had only the sex life he alleged, he'd be a busy guy, but then inclidentally he kept up a full-time job and another on the side? It seemed to be a string of "Oh yeah I fucked him too."
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 2, 2017 5:34 PM |
Others have confirmed Kate using Scotty- Tracy as well.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 2, 2017 5:40 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 2, 2017 5:43 PM |
Link 39?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 2, 2017 5:43 PM |
The main reason I don't believe the numbers of Hepburn conquests is because she seems to be such a non-sensual person. I've read in multiple sources that she did not like to be physically touched, and she has that affect. So what would she be doing to hundreds of young women if not touching them?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 2, 2017 5:51 PM |

No, it suggests the Hairy Pooper movies.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 2, 2017 10:53 PM |
I agree with what someone said about it being half real and half embellished. From what I remember from the book he claims to be bi sexual not just straight gay for pay.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 3, 2017 12:28 AM |
If a guy can routinely fuck another guy, whatever else he may be, it's not straight.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 3, 2017 12:39 AM |
Smitty has playful eyes. I have the impression that some of what he alleges in the book are stories he heard and inserted himself into for dramatic effect and to increase readership. He was in the business for a long time so I am sure he knew what everyone was into so he could arrange meetings. I do think that a lot of it he knows from firsthand knowledge through direct participation. He gives the impression that he waited to produce this memoir until his clients were dead but this fact also means that his statements can not be 100% debunked. I think the advice given upthread to read and enjoy it as fiction is sound.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 3, 2017 12:45 AM |

He was just a bartender most of the time.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | August 3, 2017 3:52 AM |
Read Cecil Beaton's Diary of the 1960s. He arranges a hookup with Scotty, and he says he's as wonderful as ever. And that was when Beaton was having an affairette with Garbo, another half lez. Only suburban minds would try and put these people into sexual boxes.

by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 4, 2017 2:18 AM |
"Hepburn bearded for Spencer Tracy for years."
No, she didn't. For one thing, he wasn't gay. In fact, he was a lady's man who had affair with prominent stars like Ingrid Bergman and Loretta Young. And during all of this, and during all his relationship with Hepburn, he was MARRIED. He never divorced his wife.
Katherine Hepburn would have not thought Scotty Bowers good enough to spit on, much less procure for her.
During the popularity of the film Deep Throat, Bowers claims to have arranged for Linda Lovelace to give instruction on deep throating at parties. Linda Lovelace never met Scotty Bowers. The only guy she ever procured for was her lord and master Chuck Trayor.
And then there were the threesomes with "Eddie and Wally", generally known as The Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Their friends called them David and Wallis. Wallis did have a relationship with a gay man, but it sure as hell wasn't with Scotty Bowers. It was with Jimmy Donahue, the amusing, dissolute cousin of the Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton.
Everyone Bowers claims to have procured for and had sex with is conveniently dead. He has no one iota of evidence to back up any of his claims. You have have to take it on faith. And THAT is incredibly stupid. Bowers is quite simply, a big fat liar. He'll say anything, and hopes he will be believed. And some very, very stupid people do seem to believe him. They'll believe anything, apparently.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 4, 2017 3:27 AM |
"Yeah, we'll all just take what [R57] says on faith since his only evidence is his opinion."
No, dummy. Spencer Tracy was married to his wife until his death and his life and affairs and relationships with women have all been well documented in a highly researched biography by James Curtis. The Duchess of Windsor did have a "friendship" with Jimmy Donahue. No one except Chuck Traynor called the shots in Linda Lovelace's brief porno career. Those are all facts, honey, and you can look them up. But I know you'd much rather believe Scotty Bower's nasty fairy tales. It's so much more fun to believe long dead Hollywood actors did things like eat shit sandwiches, isn't it? So much fun!

Queens like R57 who spout with such authority from the podium, yet never met the subject the pronounce about, crack me up. The idea that everyone is dead and there is no evidence is totally rubbish, yet they keep saying it like some Bolshevick, hoping their lie will stick! Er, no. Here's Raymond Burr's partner, for example:
"Benevides, now 82 and reached at the Raymond Burr Winery in Napa Valley, said he had not seen or spoken to Bowers for more than 20 years. He was not aware of Full Service....
Yes, Benevides admitted, it was Bowers who first "introduced" him to actor Raymond Burr in 1959.
Yes, Bowers frequently "introduced" young gay guys to older men like Burr.
Yes, Bowers took no money for making the "introduction."
"Scotty just liked to make people happy," Benevides says.
Benevides confirms it all, to the extent that he knows personally. The idea that Bowers would make up anything is laughable, he says. "Scotty Bowers is the most honest person I've known, with the best memory for names and places I've ever seen," he says. "If he tells you that something happened to somebody, that's the way it was."
Here's a fresh pic of the very, very popular Mr Bowers.

The problem I had with the book wasn't that I didn't believe his stories (thought I didn't believe most of it), it was how tedious and boring it all was.
I don't know how you make such a salacious topic--with such a cast of characters--boring, but he and his ghost writer managed it.

by Anonymous | reply 83 | August 4, 2017 6:46 PM |
I've spent my life surrounded by family members and neighbors, meaning I've been involved in their lives since I was born. Something I learned about the aging process: our memories get faulty. Yeah, big revelation, I know. But the thing is, they don't realize it, and they believe what they are saying is true. So I've got people in their eighties and nineties reminiscing about situations that I was involved in or have heard them talk about for decades, only now the story's changed. Now it's a different story. They also suddenly begin to reminisce about things that supposedly happened, yet they never ever mentioned before, not even in the era it supposedly took place.
I think the same thing is probably going on with Bowers. Yes, I believed he was involved in the Hollywood sex stuff, like he says. But when it comes to specific stories, it is very possible that he's now remembering it differently than how it took place. It's also very possible that he's remembering events that never took place.
If so, he's not lying. He believes he's accurately recalling his adventures. . .even if/when he isn't.

Cecil Beaton probably had a close friendship with Garbo. No doubt he was infatuated by her star power etc like many gays are by female icons. As for Wallis Simpson why would any self respecting gay man choose to poke that ugly old boot? I have a hard time imagining a straight guy doing it. She comes across like a dragon from the interviews I've seen. I mean, if your a gay guy wanting to dabble with a woman wouldn't you find a pretty one??
by Anonymous | reply 93 | August 6, 2017 7:28 PM |
Beaton proposed to Garbo. She turned him down. They did have a long-running, on and off affair.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | August 6, 2017 7:31 PM |
So Beaton was bisexual? Interesting.
As for Hepburn who knows? She appeared so uptight and prudish, yet she herself said that her public persona was fabricated. She called it 'the creature'. I don't doubt she liked the ladies at all. Her relationship with Tracy sounds like a deep friendship rather than a torrid love affair. I read a bio where one of her friends said he didn't think the two were sexual

r94 is full of shit. Good grief, Beaton was a self loathing very effeminate gay and a laughing stock amongst stars of the period. No, Garbo and Beaton never had an affair.
Garbo used to come to Europe and laugh with her lesbian fiends in Switzerland about what a horrible deluded person he was. They all did.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | August 7, 2017 12:29 AM |
That's why she didn't marry him, r98. She thought he was a self-important, self-entitled, jerk. She also thought he was after her money -- she was much wealthier than he was. But he could be fun to be around, he was smart, personable when he wanted to be, a good escort and good in bed. The deluded Beaton was astonished when she turned down his proposal.
The affair is extremely well documented and accepted by both their biographers. See the various links, r98, and stop believing your opinions are fact.

I think Michael Mann was totally right in calling Katharine Hepburn transgender. A transgender man who liked women, that's who she basically was. If anyone thinks her relationships with Laura Harding, Elissa Landi and Phyllis Wiburn were platonic, they're kidding themselves.
R57, gay people got married before it was legal for gay people to marry each other. It happened all the time.
That said, Gore Vidal is not a good reference for Bowers' credibility. He claims never to have ever lied, but in fact, his favorite story, about his doomed romance with the late Jimmy Trimble, is something he made up.
Plenty of gay men marry and procreate with their wives. And have affairs with women while basically preferring men. Look at the Redgraves. Look at Anthony Perkins. If any thinks Laurence Olivier wasn't gay they're kidding themselves.
The gayest guy I knew in college, the most out and proud, is now living in Minnesota married to a woman and has a couple of kids. I don't know what happened to him, but that's what he did. Don't think it's religion.

Some like to believe what Beaton wrote in his memoirs, but everyone who knew him knew the Garbo story was false just as Dirk Bogarde's musings about Capucine were fantasies in his autobios.
There does exist in elitist circles a certain type of very queeny gay man who claims to have a special relationship with the most desirable/powerful/beautiful woman in the group implying that they have been intimate.. I've seen it myself while escorting ladies to different functions.
They have no self awareness, they're usually quite miserable and they can't find anybody to fuck them. That was Beaton.

Most men escorting wealthy ladies are gay. We don't have sex with the ladies FFS and its not a paid gig. Its primarily friendship and the opportunity to meet interesting people and hot guys while providing male companionship.

I love a lot of what Gore Vidal did and wrote, but he was a fabulist and a fiction writer. He told his life story accordingly. I don't think anyone really takes his word as fact. Many of his contemporaries disliked him because of his gossip and lies. As far as Bowers goes, about 90% of what he writes (badly) is obviously fiction, but people are gullible, so...

I thinkmsome of it is true and some parts inside gossip that he heard. I found the Duke of Windsor story off. It's been awhile since I read Bower's book, but I think he claimed to be calling (DoW) "Eddie" when he was known privately as "David."

Hollywood is sexually depraved, because it encourages to use sex as a weapon, affirm your power, negotiation tactic, to social network, for blackmail, etc.
Hollywood higher ups let their talent "loose" so they can control them (blackmail, humor them and their vices, shame them for being depraved, show loyalty by helping them to keep their depravities a secret, etc.) and create a "safe space" for them where they can be who they really are behind closed doors while pretending who they are not for the public.

by Anonymous | reply 128 | August 7, 2017 11:08 AM |
I've posted this before when Scotty's book was first discussed here: I think r84 has it right. Scotty WAS a kind of pimp and hooker-up of and to the stars back in the day, and what he writes about his own sexual exploits is probably all true. But I agree that his memory probably isn't 100% any more, and he most likely inserted stories that he imagined, or at least embellished, into the framework of the true ones.
As corroboration for what he claims, I do remember reading (I wish I remembered where!) about "a gas station in LA that wasn't really a gas station, but actually a place to hook up". This was in a source that was published long before Bowers's book came out.
What I've always doubted is that he didn't take any money for his services, either as rent himself, or as a broker. And the other flat-out illogical thing is the story about his daughter's death from a botched abortion. If I understand his timeline right, this would have been after Roe vs. Wade, and in California, which makes it highly unlikely that a young woman would die from a back-alley abortion like he describes.
But whatever, the book was a fun read, even if the writing style was poor (which is the fault of the ghostwriter).

The stories about Tracy predate Bower's book by decades. He was a mean ugly drunk, and though Kate loved him and took care of him, whether their relationship was sexual is debatable. Supposedly, the great affair between him and Loretta Young was never consumated. (Clark Gable was another story altogether.) Still, Tracy was always rumoured to like young men, particularly when drunk.

[quote] Why the hell is kate Hepburn now considered transgender? Because she was a tomboy and possibly dated women? How the fuck does that mean trans?
No I think it's because she said many times that she desperately wanted to be a boy growing up, and shaved her head and had people call her Jimmy before puberty. In the eighties an interviewer (I have that interview somewhere) taked to her about this, and said something like nowadays people can transition, had it been available at the time would you have, and she responded that it wasn't available so that's a moot point. And that she had decided on some kind of middle of the road, half woman half man.
If you listen to this from a trans perspective she fits.
Garbo is another one who spoke of herself using male pronouns her whole life. When the love of her younger lfe wrote to her in the US that she had given birth, Garbo responded that she was a very proud Dad.
Whether it was women's role in society that they rejected or whether they were trans, who knows. If you add the anti-lesbian stigma of the times, I am ready to bet that both Hepburn and Garbo would have much preferred imagining themselves as straight men.

Scotty was molested for the first time by a family friend when he was seven. He was 10-12 when he pimped himself out to priests in the Chicago Archdiocese. As others above have said, he doesn't realize how much he was damaged by this. Not only did it turn him into a sex addict, but he was unable to make true connections with his wife and daughter. He could only relate when it involved sex.

Here's an excerpt from a review for Bower's crap book. It's from the Los Angeles Review of Books:
Bowers arrived in Los Angeles at the age of twenty-three, shortly after World War II. He claims to have become sexually active at a young age. According to him, servicing adult men in his small town caused him no psychic distress. On the contrary, he was ready and willing. He began pumping gas at a Hollywood service station, but it was only a matter of moments before he also began a side career as a prostitute, arranger of naked liaisons to the stars and secret proprietor of a makeshift brothel in a large trailer parked behind the station.
The purported spark to this clandestine wildfire was named Walter Pidgeon, Academy Award-nominated actor for Mrs. Miniver (1942) and Madame Curie (1943). Pidgeon drove up for some gasoline, propositioned Bowers, gave him some money when it was all over and that was that, the pump boyโs entrepreneurial light-bulb moment. Thanks to Pidgeonโs connections to the entertainment industryโs A-list, the station quickly became a kind of clubhouse/whorehouse, employing all of Bowersโs horniest, neediest, most open-minded pals, both male and female. They serviced, en masse, all manner of Hollywood hot shots, names both above and below the title, with Bowers using his legendary penis to satisfy more of the rich and famous than anyone could count, himself included. The way he tells it, the scene was a non-stop, barely contained bacchanal. Orgies of every stripe, down-low gangbangs arranged in a wink, you name it. Right out in the open. Vice squad eluded. Everybody getting all the hot monkey sex any human being could want or even contemplate handling. Then everyone got up at five oโclock in the morning to make their call time.
Sound impossible? No. Itโs a big world, anythingโs possible. But implausible? Hell yes.

I'm with what R19 said. I read Scotty's book recently and found it disgusting and improbable, but at the same time I can attest to his depiction of LA as a sexual playground full of pretty people where sex is super easy to come by and anything goes. I lived in West Hollywood throughout my 30s, and I'm a good looking guy, not VGL or A-list, but nevertheless, even for me I had an extremely satisfying and adventurous sex life that left no stone unturned. Be it a combination of the geography, the weather, the longitude, the latitude, the beautiful people, the liberal values (etc.), and the fact that I pursued it, that is the LA/Hollywood I experienced. For better or worse: my signature song was If They Could See Me Now. I look back on it now and say to myself 'I saw some crazy shit up in the hills."
I think Scotty's sexual mojo was tuned just right for the place and the time and he really ran with it. But he gets so much wrong it makes what might have been true easier to doubt. He says his personalized license plate made his car easier to spot, but his timeline doesn't line up with when plates like that were introduced.

[quote]Yes, Benevides admitted, it was Bowers who first "introduced" him to actor Raymond Burr in 1959. Yes, Bowers frequently "introduced" young gay guys to older men like Burr. Yes, Bowers took no money for making the "introduction.""Scotty just liked to make people happy," Benevides says. In fact, Benevides confirmed three of the most controversial claims in Full Service: that Bowers, now 88, was the go-to procurer for many Hollywood stars -- gay and straight -- in the pre-sexual revolution, pre-AIDS, pre-Craigslist, postwar era; that he gladly shared his sex partners of both genders; and that he was not a "pimp" in the traditional sense because he collected money only when he personally serviced the customer.
[quote]In the book, Bowers mentions that, in the mid-'50s, he posed for a trio of "French postcards," featuring himself having sex with women of various ethnicities. At an event at the West Hollywood Library earlier this month, a man in attendance actually produced a set of the cards and handed them to Bowers. "They were old and faded, but exactly as Scotty had described them to me," says Bowers' co-writer, Emmy Award-winning documentary producer Lionel Friedberg. "Scotty with three different women: white, black and Asian."
[quote]And at a signing at Book Soup, a man who claimed to be the grandson of actor Walter Pidgeon, Bowers' very first star trick, in 1946, said he was impressed by Bowers and did not dispute anything he wrote. A man who claimed to have had a six-month affair with Rock Hudson in 1958 agreed that Bowers got it right. And noted writer and historian David Ehrenstein, who said he had researched director George Cukor's archives for his own book, reported that Bowers was mentioned frequently by Cukor -- who introduced him to Tracy and Hepburn.

I posted a number of the posts above quoting different sources, not to try to prove anything one way or another (since I have no idea what's really true), but simply to offer some context, to show that Bowers had a reputation long before he helped write that book.
And, as some others have posted, Hollywood is nothing like the image it attempts to project. Lots of shady and sordid behavior, even among those who are usually considered 'respected'. Look at Sammy Davis Jr, alone: renting out a theatre to show 'Deep Throat' to a number of celebrity friends (including Lucille Ball) and then learning how to deep throat from Linda Lovelace herself. And his involvement in the Church of Satan. Johnny Carson's ancient producer, Fred DeCordova had a wife who offered the best rolled joints in Hollywood (her Mexican maid was the expert). All those parties at the Playboy Mansion, with Bill Cosby and James Caan always ending up in 'The Grotto'. Jackie Cooper, at 17, having an affair with a much older Joan Crawford.
Either way, I don't have a dog in this race. If even a third of what is in the book is true, it's still pretty shocking.

Or that when he became engaged to Virginia Cherril, Randolf Scott attempted suicide! I read the book and what made it hard to believe is the breezy, happy-go-lucky, everyone-I-meet-is-up-for-gay-sex point of view. Even when Scotty gets pulled over by a cop, it ends up being sex. He seems to never have run into a single person adverse to homosex. I've lived in Hollywood for 30 years and it is very liberal but you still get turned down or run into the occasional 100% straight man or woman here. Or even the occasional homophobe. According to Scotty, that wasn't the case in the much more progressive 40s and 50s? Very lol. But, if true, his life sounds like a complete dreamworld.

I don't believe most of what he wrote. Vivien Leigh buying rent boys? Nahhhh. Or any of the crap about Spencer Tracy either. And as much as I despise Wallis Simpson and that pussy whipped Duke of hers, it it too preposterous to believe. Duh, of course the book seemed like every man he came into contact with ended up with sex. Mrs. Spencer Tracy wanted to avoid a divorce because she enjoyed the social prestige of being Mrs. Spencer Tracy, not because of religion (I believe she was a Protestant, he was the Roman Catholic in the marriage). She had spent decades creating and working on the John Tracy Clinic for deaf children, and the social aspects of being the wife of a big movie star helped with that. Tracy was quoted as telling Joan Fontaine that his wife and Kate were satisfied with the arrangement, though I expect that Mrs. Tracy was more 'in denial' than 'accepting'.

Hollywood has never been able to resist a big dick, a handsome face, and a pleasant personality. Scotty had all three and figured out how to make money with what he had. When Walter Pidgeon pulled into his gas station in his robin's egg blue Lincoln, Scotty took advantage of his gifts to get more gifts, just like most people would have done. He wasn't a drunk or druggie so he managed to keep a lot of what he had. Personally, I wouldn't care for a man stirring my cocktail with his dick. Or to find one in a hot dog roll on a tray. He did some weird things but he will leave his wife lots of money and real estate. I'm sure the IRS doesn't know the half of what Scotty has.

There does seem to be one point where truth is evaded for legal purposes: Money does seem to have changed hands. This is from Cecil Beaton's diary:
โScotty is a phenomenon. I heard several years ago that the police had caught up with him ... I only had a telephone number, now surely in disrepair. But no. Although I woke him early, his voice was as cheerful as ever. It is five years since Iโve seen him ... I asked him how much I owed him and he suggested a sum much smaller than I knew was customary.โ
by Anonymous | reply 250 | September 10, 2017 4:59 AM |
First review is in. It makes mention of the several houses he owns... presumably those that were gifted to him in the will of the actor Beech Dickserson. So those who claimed the book 'was all about money' would be somewhat wide of the mark.

Two thoughts: First, the Duke of Windsor was called "David" by his family, but there is no evidence of his friends calling him "David." I don't think Bower calling him "Eddie" rather than "David" sheds light on Bower's honesty. Also, regarding the continual attempted put-down in calling people "retarded": Why is that an insult? People who are mentally retarded (or, intellectually challenged, if you like) are human beings like the rest of us; they have a disability. Is that a reason to use their diagnosis as a label? Frankly, I think it's pretty inhumane to use "retarded" as an insult.

What follows might be disillusioning to some
Mr. Bowers claims that one of his sex pals was Vivien Leigh. It's known she was bipolar, and people with that can be sexually compulsive. If we believe him, they may have "known" each other during the filming of Streetcar. In that case how much might his input have contributed to her remarkable performance in that? There is a line Blanche has in that when she's admitting to Mitch that she gas a "past" and talks about looking for sex "in the unlikeliest of places" and there is such a look of self-disgust on her face. Was VL thinking of Scotty? He claims that, after they had sex, she'd berate him and kick him out, IIRC.

Why you sour bitches are so invested in pissing on this is mystifying. The likes of Jim Carrey, Charlie Sheen and Usher are all involved in louche shenanigans today that you'd be denying in the same way if it wasn't confirmed officially. Why wouldn't rich , bored, spoiled people be engaging in whatever they want to indulge themselves in? As for Vivien Leigh being above it all, there's a documentary on her on Youtube where a society dowager recalls being invited by Leigh to tea and being kept waiting as her hostess was in the park being fucked by rough trade. If you uptight old girls had any experience of what actually goes on in life you would run out of smelling salts.

Many people who go into acting are highly insecure and are desperately looking for affirmation; that often comes in the form of sex. If Spencer Tracy's wife was OK with his arrangement with Hepburn it was for one main reason. Because there was no love affair with Hepburn that needed arranging. Tracy and Hepburn's "romance" was a carefully concocted sham they themselves concocted in order to keep the meddlesome press of the day (mainly that vicious old hag Hedda Hopper & the scandal rag Confidential) from writing anything that might blow their covers since both of them enjoyed same sex relations with others. Their's was a non-sexual affair of convenience, nothing more.

He's 94 years old. He more than likely suffers from some level of senile dementia. There are very few people his age who don't have some sort of mental impairment.

I believe some of it. He was probably trade at the gas station he worked at and let a few guys blow him for a ten spot. From that he may have hooked up with a B- star or two. The part most believable is the brief part when talks about his childhood. Getting spare change to sit on old guys laps and wiggle around until the came. So a sexually abused child grows up to be a sex worker/addict. Not a huge revelation.

Tracy 'mentored' Tom Drake and Van Johnson. I always found that interesting.
First thing I've read of Astaire actually being bi but quelle surprise.
Laurents in his book says there were rumors about Gene Kelly. Was this his way of saying Kelly was at least bi without being sued by the Kelly widow or children? He 'mentored' that very cute guy who does Beautiful Girls in SITR didn't he?
Also the Tyrone Powers excuse is bullshit. Anybody interested in this doc would know who he was. Otherwise audiences wouldn't know a soul. I have no doubt it was Powers' children who threatened to sue. Doesn't he have a daughter who is very protective of his legacy?
In the Adele/Fred Astaire bio Adele is quoted as saying that Gershwin was not heterosexual. She goes on to say if he had been she would have known. Then she says but neither was he homosexual he was asexual.
Also Ball did nude photos so isn't it possible she paid for her dinners and did not go dutch? I'm sure there are lots of interesting stories about our most revered icons(look at American hero racist anti semitic Nazi Lindbergh.)
Bowers of course had to wait until everyone was dead otherwise he would have been sued up the kazoo.
As somebody already said sleeping with someone gets you halfway there but talent gets you to the top.
The only thing I truly don't believe is the shit sandwiches. How would you get them down without choking on them and you would constantly be ill with all kinds of hepatitis and other bacteria.

While I think woods a creepy guy. Do people realize that pedophilia signifies someone who is attracted to children. While hebephilia is when someone is interested in young teenagers. There is a difference while both are looked down upon one is taboo and beyond the pale.

It's a point of law that you can't defame the dead R294 so there's no way Power's descendants would have a case, even aside from the fact calling someone homosexual/bisexual is no longer considered slander.
There's an interview on YouTube with an old actress who dated Power saying she believed " he swung both ways" as he was always hanging out with Cesar Romero who was, she says, completely gay.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | September 15, 2017 5:31 PM |
It's long been known George Gershwin was gay -- although not a fact you'll find on Wikipedia where all the Golden Years stars are straight, and rigorously policed to stay that way!
As for Astaire....

A lot of these people sound like the pansexual type. Life was a party of fame, money and unrestricted sex. No rules applied, except keep it out of the press. If Scotty established himself as someone who could be trusted not to blab, then it's easy to see why he would be popular. Easy to imagine how much he relished his role with the stars as well.

An absence of relationships with women does not prove there were relationships with men.
It is well known Hart was gay but what proof is there that Gershwin was?
by Anonymous | reply 300 | September 16, 2017 2:08 AM |
R294 for people who are deeply into scat (to the point of eating it) human feces is a delicacy. Yes, it's sickening to think people like that exist, but they do. It's some sort of mental fixation. It's just a worse fixation than the people (many gay guys for example) who are deeply into water sports and enjoy having other men piss into their mouths and drinking it. It's just a short skip and a jump over to frosting a cake with ass pudding.

R296 so why was Power cut out? Their excuse makes no sense in a film about old Hollywood when he was one of its biggest stars.

R275, after Blanche's experience with her closeted husband, I think it's safe to say that seeing Scotty Bowers, who was a flaming queen, would have made her run screaming for the hills.

"It is well known Hart was gay but what proof is there that Gershwin was?"
There isn't any. He was very into women. No proof exists that he ever had a sexual relationship with a man. But some people WANT the brilliant George Gershwin to have been gay, so that say things like "he wanted to hid the fact he was gay by fucking lots and lots of women!" Simone Simon, a French film actress, said that she thought that Gershwin must be gay because when they were on a trip together, he never laid a hand on her. Or maybe it was just that he wasn't interested in fucking her. Attempts to make George Gershwin out to be gay seem to be rather desperate.

If Fat Jack had a dark, stinky, one bedroom apartment and showed old movies on a bed sheet for young twinks and fed the poor urchins then pimped them out, yes, I remember that greasy fat fuck well. Only in Hollywood adjacenct would this happen. ( R91 )

Which is just one reason why his tales are absurd and unbelievable. You can say anything about someone who is dead, but if they're alive, they can sue you. Which is why old Scotty waited as long as he did to come out with his bullshit. He waited until all the famous people he says he fucked DIED so he could lie about them. What a disgusting piece of shit he is.

r301 totally not true. Pissing is one thing, scat is a HUGE difference. Most gay guys i know have had an experience or two with watersports, but scat no way, too big of a leap.
Furthermore [quote]Urine "is relatively clean," says Goldfarb. "Most people don't have urinary tract infections." This may be the source of the belief that urine makes a good antiseptic โ and that urinating on a wound can disinfect it, a practice purportedly going back to the Aztecs.

[quote]It seems that, whenever a notorious celebrity dies, tell-all biographies appear within a few months -- or even weeks -- filled with unflattering new disclosures. One explanation for this phenomenon is (to quote Judge Robert Sack, the author of one of the two leading treatises on libel): The dead have no cause of action for defamation under the common law, and neither do their survivors, unless the words independently reflect upon and defame the survivors.

by Anonymous | reply 314 | September 20, 2017 2:47 AM |
George Gershwin was gay. Gay, gay, gay. It's one of the better coverups of American cultural history, but given that until a few years ago Henry James, Walt whitman, And thomas Eatkins were rigorously described as straight or asexual, and any scholar who suggested otherwise risked their career progression, not the least surprising. And yes: there is evidence -- more than enough for him to be claimed as heerosexual if the situation was reversed. But hetersexual fascism continues to prevail.

R215, you are entirely wrong about Whitman. His sexuality has been accepted by scholars and critics for at least 60 years, actually longer. The translation from French of Roger Asselineau's biography "The Evolution of Walt Whitman: The Creation of a Personality" in 1960 not only continued the general acceptance of Whitman's gayness that had been discussed in earlier biographies such as Gay Wilson Allen's "The Solitary Singer" but also began a reconsideration of the development of Whitman's canon by viewing it in terms of his sexuality. The reconsideration was so complete that by the time I started graduate school in the early 1980s, the subject was almost considered old hat.

He was very small and a premature ejaculator. She used an old trick where she would lock onto the base of the royal scepter with her vaginal muscles, thus allowing him complete satisfaction. I believe the technique became known as the "Windsor Knot."

Watched the documentary yesterday and loved it. Fascinating to me, just watching his current life, the relationship with his wife, the obvious hoarding issues he has (you should see his houses). They also go and meet up with a couple of his former rent boys who corroborate some of the stories.

R313 No one is disputing that you can't libel the dead.
But it rather stupid to infer that that necessarliy means anyone writing about the dead is lying.
There are many reasons not to write the truth about people while they are alive. For instance, they can sue you and (barring proof by you) win. People get sued for inconvenient truths all the time.
You may also not want to embarrass them while they are alive.

I was visiting a friend out in Palm Springs. We both went to the book store and bought Scotty's book the day it came out and sat around the pool the whole afternoon reading it. When we were done, my friend didn't believe it and I believed it 100%. Not only that, I kinda fell in love with old Scotty. When I saw the documentary I loved him even more. Sure he's a hoarder and that's kind of sad. I just figured he's been through so much in his life, WWII, his brother's death, his daughter's death, the love for first wife, etc., that he had to push it all down deep inside since he doesn't believe in therapy, And that's how it came out. The hoarding.
