Can someone explain her?
Elisabeth Moss

She goes great with fresh crackers.

She's not the greatest actress out there, but she is more talented than most. She normally chooses excellent roles (I think the Handmaid's Tale is one of the best TV shows ever made, if only for the amazing themes). She's not conventionally attractive, which is nice to see for once. She is, however, a Scientologist - which confounds me beyond belief (especially after watching the Handmaid's Tale).

She's an actress. She's a good actress. End of explanation.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 17, 2017 1:42 PM |
In The Handmaid's Tale she reminded me of Naomi Watts with more energy and less sex appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 17, 2017 1:53 PM |
She's a better actress than January Jones, that's for goddamn sure. AND she was in [italic]Gypsy[/italic] with Bette Midler.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 17, 2017 1:58 PM |
She is visually disquieting.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 17, 2017 2:35 PM |
A moderately good looking actress who gives really interesting performances. She makes you want to root for her.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 17, 2017 2:50 PM |
She's great. Is she ever going to be able to leave the clams?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 14, 2017 7:35 AM |
I'd probably root for her. Depending on who she wants me to root.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 14, 2017 7:58 AM |
I can only echo previous posters. She's interesting, unconventional looking and chooses quality projects carefully.
She reminds of some of the actresses of the 70's and early 80's - Spacek, Adams, Keaton. Not necessarily in her performances, but in her choices and that's she's not there to simply be an ornament. She's gearing up for a long career of substance rather than a bright burn and fade.
The only question mark is the Scientology.

Really, R11? What does it say?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 14, 2017 11:08 AM |
Bitch is tithing most of her money back to the COS and she has to get their approval on roles and scripts. Ergo, she may be talented but she's stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 14, 2017 11:24 AM |
She has a cute laugh. She was on WWHL and seemed really fun and nice. She loves Dorinda so there is that.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 14, 2017 11:45 AM |
I saw the first season of Top of the Lake and thought she was very good in that.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 14, 2017 11:49 AM |
she looks weird
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 14, 2017 11:54 AM |
She is so incredibly untrustworthy because she's a Scieno. She's like Beck: talented but squandering it all for the clams.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 14, 2017 11:55 AM |
I found it odd how we were kept being told what a beautiful girl she was by other characters on Mad Men. Beautiful? Was she having an affair with Matthew Weiner to get these compliments?!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 14, 2017 12:29 PM |
I don't even remember her in Girl, Interrupted.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 14, 2017 12:32 PM |
She is super weird, which makes her perfect for Handmaid's. You have to be certifiably insane to be a Scieno, and sometimes that translates into a good actor, usually when young. However, as they get older, the cracks begins to show (see: Cruise, Travolta, et. al.) I would imagine the same will happen to her.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 14, 2017 12:59 PM |
I read somewhere that she was raised as a Scieno (is that true?) so it might be everything she's ever known.
I still can't get past that aspect so I don't watch any of her projects.

r21, yeah her parents are hardcore life-long believers whom I believe met while in Sea Org. Strange they had children, actually, as that is discouraged of cadets as a distraction. I wonder if she was actually one of the Sea Org kids raised with no/little parental contact on Gold Base or in Clearwater.

Did she secretly give birth? I heard she was pregnant during the handmaids and visibly so....as in you can see it in some scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 14, 2017 1:20 PM |
I thought she looked kind of pregnant in a few scenes in China Girl but didn't notice in Handmaid's Tale. I mean, they're wearing fucking cloaks. Why would she have a secret baby?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 14, 2017 1:22 PM |
She's painfully unphotogenic. Not ugly per se, but...yes, ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 14, 2017 2:04 PM |
I looked her up in Girl Interrupted. I didn't know she was in it, but I remembered when I saw the photos. She was scarred.
What a cast in that movie!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 14, 2017 2:12 PM |
Put it this way. Elizabeth Moss works a lot post-Man Men. Jon Hamm rarely does.

She's a good actress with a particular knack for TV roles. She has unusual features that allow her to play everywoman types like Peggy Olsen and Offred with believability and depth. I like her but I have a problem with Scientology.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 14, 2017 2:48 PM |
WTF are you talking about r18. Peggy was made fun of because of her looks in the early seasons; later on as she gained more power it was less commented on.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 14, 2017 2:50 PM |
I don't ever remember Peggy Olsen being described as beautiful or even attractive, R18, except maybe by her wacko mother in a patronizing way. Don once called her "cute" but it was in a brotherly way to bolster her self-esteem. In the early seasons her male colleagues openly mocked her looks. Joan had some choice putdowns as well. You most be thinking of someone else or another show.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 14, 2017 5:42 PM |
I loved Top Of The Lake which she starred in.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 14, 2017 6:46 PM |
Why would the clams "approve" Handmaids.... That's bullshit, above.
And I highly doubt she is tithing all that much money. She's their prestige star right now. Travolta and Cruise are in ridiculous zones. But don't count out Travolta. He truly is a talented star and I bet he has yet ANOTHER comeback.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 14, 2017 6:53 PM |
The thing is she was born and raised in Scientology, not an adult convert like Travolta or Cruise. When that's all you've known it seems normal. My cousins growing up were all Mormons and it didn't faze us (well except for the fact that the couldn't have a Coke.) She was also a child actress and that's another weird dynamic growing up. She's been pretty low key about Scientology but didn't Fred Armisten blame the org for their marriage breaking up? I've met her, she is a little weird but what actor isn't, really.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 14, 2017 7:10 PM |
What was weird about her r33?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 14, 2017 7:11 PM |
Their marriage breaking up might have had to do with Fred Armisen being weird all by himself without being a scoeno.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 14, 2017 7:18 PM |
Armisen is off-putting and is also reported to be a sleaze
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 14, 2017 7:22 PM |
After seeing the scene in the car where she sees her daughter, she's 100% winning the Emmy.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 17, 2017 11:57 AM |
I am late to the party, but she is ugly. I am finally binge watching Mad Men and I can’t believe her in the role of Peggy. She dresses like a fourteen year old girl! No make up, plain boring clothing, dumb bobby socks type hairdo. She is literally the least sophisticated woman in the office. It is ridiculous.
