"Friends From College": Netflix lays another egg

Who keeps greenlighting these awful series?

I really like Keegan-Michael. I wish he'd pick better projects. I think he could be a much bigger star with the right vehicle.

by Anonymousreply 1July 10, 2017 5:45 PM

Nick and Francesca Stoller are the writers who came up with this, and it probably is an autobiographical account of their one-upmanship marriage, except not funny which it would be if someone outside of the couple had been writing it.

Once again a crappy show has a gay character. Why is it that the lesbians get all the good shows, yet we have to be thankful for awful ones?

by Anonymousreply 3July 10, 2017 6:45 PM

Some of the most brutal reviews I have ever seen

Because that fat professional revisionist who played Robin Williams' gay brother in [italic]Mrs. Doubtfire[/italic] and tried to fill Divine's pumps when [italic]Hairspray[/italic] went to Broadway insisted on "visibility at any cost," even if it costs us our lives and our identity.

by Anonymousreply 5July 13, 2017 1:08 PM

OINTB was not that good. Jenji Kohan is a hack.

by Anonymousreply 6July 13, 2017 1:09 PM

Yes but does Fred Savage take it up the ass in this?

by Anonymousreply 7July 13, 2017 1:11 PM

[quote] I really like Keegan-Michael. I wish he'd pick better projects. I think he could be a much bigger star with the right vehicle.

How bad was whatever he turned down to do this?

by Anonymousreply 8July 13, 2017 1:13 PM

Given the all star cast I'm sure plenty of people will watch this. The first episode anyway, if it's as bad as the reviews make it out to be.

by Anonymousreply 9July 13, 2017 1:21 PM

IF JENJI IS A HACK, RYAN MUPRHY IS NOT EVEN A WRITER. JENJI HAS HER OWN NICHE THAT SHE OVER ABUSES FROM BUT SHE CAN STILL WRITE. AND LESBIANS DON'T GET ANYTHING GOOD, OITNB IS JUST AN EXCEPTION PROVING THE RULE. GYPSY WAS WORSE THAN THIS EGG.

by Anonymousreply 10July 13, 2017 1:24 PM

F&F R10

Nothing excuses shouting.

by Anonymousreply 11July 13, 2017 1:30 PM

In the US at least, lesbians get more and better media representation than gay men by a wide margin.

by Anonymousreply 12July 13, 2017 1:41 PM

Does the mean the complete collapse of Billy Eichner's mainstream career?!

by Anonymousreply 13July 13, 2017 2:20 PM

Billy Eichner who is polluting the upcoming season of AHS?

by Anonymousreply 14July 13, 2017 2:23 PM

Yes, let's single out Billy Eichner for derision since he is openly gay and successful. Let's blame everything, including our own failings, on the successful openly gay guy.

by Anonymousreply 15July 13, 2017 2:27 PM

R13 you realize Billy Eichner was just cast as Timon in the remake of The Lion King?

by Anonymousreply 16July 13, 2017 2:29 PM

In a role that was originated by a gay man to begin with.

by Anonymousreply 17July 13, 2017 2:31 PM

It's because lesbians are more acceptable to straights because straights don't really believe it. They just need the right guy or are doing it to turn on straight men. Gay men are a whole different matter.

by Anonymousreply 18July 13, 2017 2:40 PM

And because heterosexual men fetishize lesbianism while reviling any same-sex affection between men.

by Anonymousreply 19July 13, 2017 2:47 PM

R15 I had no idea Billy Eichner was even gay so quit running around like a small yapping dog accusing people of homophobia just because we don't know who the fuck someone is and don't worship at their cock. Just because he's gay doesn't mean he has talent or is even a halfway decent human being. You're proof of that yourself.

by Anonymousreply 20July 13, 2017 3:03 PM

Wait, you didn't know Billy Eichner is gay????? Do you not have a head?

by Anonymousreply 21July 13, 2017 3:17 PM

This show is awful. The characters are terrible people. But I cannot stop watching it.

by Anonymousreply 22July 15, 2017 4:19 PM

The reviewers at The Guardian have shit all over this show, arguing that it's a bellwether of how low Netflix has sunk lately.

by Anonymousreply 23July 15, 2017 6:31 PM

I haven't seen the show. Does Billy scream every line of dialogue?

by Anonymousreply 24July 15, 2017 6:33 PM

R24 Billy is the least shouty character on this show.

by Anonymousreply 25July 15, 2017 10:53 PM

I was actually surprised by Eichner on this. He was not his usually shouty, bitchy character.

Nat Faxon is kind and of sexy, and Fred Savage is cute....but, yeah this show is not good. The "friends" are all awful.

But,, I'm laid up sick so I guess I'll finish it.

by Anonymousreply 26July 16, 2017 3:41 AM

Surprise! It's renewed!

Just pulled the plug on Netflix. Not into serial killers, Hitler, the occult, zombies, cartoons, superheroes. God it feels good to be done with them.

by Anonymousreply 28August 21, 2017 11:29 PM

I'd be close to pulling the plug too if it wasn't for Ozark. Now that I see Netflix is capable of coming up with a good TV show, I'm giving them more time.

by Anonymousreply 29August 21, 2017 11:31 PM

Keegan-Michael Key is a fucking awful actor. The underweight Italian actress sucks too. Fred Savage and Cobie Smuldera are good and I wish Greg German was in the main cast.

by Anonymousreply 30September 4, 2017 6:07 PM

I've never seen and after these reviews, I see no reason to. The premise is as they approach middle age, these one time college friends reconnect? I can't imagine that myself. I am close with and keep in regular contact with about 5 friends from college. We're all also part of a larger group email (about 15-20 people) used to keep everyone up to date on life events (births, weddings/divorces, family deaths, etc). That's enough. I have no desire to reconnect with people I knew for a short time a lifetime ago at this point in my life. Sure, I've run into people I knew in college at events, bars, business affairs, and the like and it's always pleasant but that's where it ends. This show sounds like others where the characters try to recapture or keep alive something that never really was there in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 31September 4, 2017 6:28 PM

I made it past the first episode and five minutes into the second one. This has got to be one of the worst shows I have ever seen. Why does one-note Keegan Michael Key perform every scene like he just snorted 5 pounds of coke and drank another 50 gallons of Red Bull?

by Anonymousreply 32September 4, 2017 6:29 PM

They're greenlighting everything until something sticks. I think the world will have a TV show like they have social media pretty soon.

by Anonymousreply 33September 4, 2017 6:37 PM

I am gobsmacked that this POS was renewed.

I would only watch if Greg Germann and Billy Eichner were made series regulars.

by Anonymousreply 34May 18, 2018 2:39 PM

Has anyone started Season 2 yet?

Can Keegan-Michael Key act yet?

Has Annie Parisse notices yet?

Is it still awful?

by Anonymousreply 35February 2, 2019 9:57 AM

[quote]Greg Germann

Way to get me not to watch a show. Byegones.

by Anonymousreply 36February 2, 2019 10:06 AM

[quote]Greg Germann

I started watching Grey's Anatomy to see Jake Borelli. When I saw Greg Germann as the doctor version of Richard Fish, I started to FF through every scene that doesn't feature Jake Borelli (or that hot Italian doctor).

by Anonymousreply 37February 2, 2019 10:08 AM

So much that Netflix offers is so rough. Their productions always feel like someone optioned and produced a first draft of the script that even the writer thought was pretty bad and had planned to rewrite.

by Anonymousreply 38February 2, 2019 10:16 AM

Annie Parisse IS ridiculously underweight. And yet they keep dressing her to show off her boniness. Eat something!

And while you are at, take Nat Faxon with you and the two of you get your teeth fixed.

by Anonymousreply 39February 2, 2019 10:26 AM

When Greg Germann and Billy Eichner play the only bearable human beings on a show...

... well, the show sucks.

by Anonymousreply 40February 2, 2019 10:38 AM

OK, Fred Savage is good too, he takes acting honors.

by Anonymousreply 41February 2, 2019 12:48 PM

It’s better this season. Not great, but better.

by Anonymousreply 42February 2, 2019 1:24 PM

The first half is better, the second half devolved again into the same situations that bored us last season . I will faint if this is renewed.
