Anyone watching this new show? Based on the book by the same name, about the comedy club scene in Los Angeles in the 1970s. Really enjoying it so far. Melissa Leo is killing it as club owner Goldie.

Tap tap.... is this thing on?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 4, 2017 6:31 PM |
I'm watching. Leo is great. The wigs are terrible. Loved Jack McFarland's kid hooking up with the psycho groupie. Andrew Santino needs to show some ass. Actually any male nudity would be welcome. There has already been tons of female nudity. Also more about the black comic selling his giant dick to the local priests!

Loving it. It gets better with every episode!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 5, 2017 4:27 AM |
I saw the previews and it looks like entire cast has a bad wig.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 5, 2017 4:30 AM |
Uh, the stand up is never funny, the show is not funny.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 5, 2017 1:28 PM |
Hang in there. It gets better after the pilot.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 12, 2017 4:48 PM |
The guy who played Richard Pryor was spot on.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 12, 2017 4:51 PM |
I'm enjoying it, especially the female comic. Her redheaded boyfriend is a real piece of work, as I suspect many comics are.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 12, 2017 4:59 PM |
Terrific writing. Had no idea that comics were that vicious to each other.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 12, 2017 5:05 PM |
Red haired comic's dad is a raging asshole so clearly that's where his dysfunction began.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 12, 2017 5:10 PM |
Leo's a caricature.
I'm watching despite her performance, not because of it.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 12, 2017 5:30 PM |
I think they're slowly unpeeling the character of Goldy (Leo) at this point. Offering little tidbits along the way that reveal her character between her family being in concentration camps, her past with an obviously abusive husband. I though the shot of her watching The Battle of the Sexes with a bruise and a smile was wonderful. She seems to really know who this character is and the show is taking its time in revealing all the sides of her.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 12, 2017 6:00 PM |
I fucking love this show.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 13, 2017 3:27 AM |
I love this show and I think the characters played by Andrew Santino and Jake Lacy need to work out their animosity with each other in bed. Naked.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 13, 2017 4:35 AM |
It's too Emmy reel for me. Especially, Melissa Leo. However, Andrew Santino? Would get it.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 13, 2017 10:09 AM |
Another great episode tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 17, 2017 5:57 AM |
Leo is a fucking Godzilla of camp, it is hilariously bad!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 17, 2017 6:11 AM |
I really enjoy it. One of the better Showtime efforts.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 17, 2017 7:16 AM |
I just finished watching all 10 episodes and am in love with this show. Such great characters and Jake Lucy and Andrew Santino are sexy as hell. I can’t wait for season two.
Oh, and from Santino’s instagram...

I watched a few episodes and liked it, but stopped watching due to lack of time, but I will tune back in based on these reviews.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 14, 2018 1:56 AM |
I like that they had an openly gay comedian on the show, is his character in the show gay?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 14, 2018 11:03 AM |
Shows and movies about comics doing comedy and stand up are NEVER EVER funny.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 14, 2018 3:12 PM |
I just finished it. I enjoyed the hell out of it. It does have moments of overwrought dialogue, but then so do all of the comedians in my life. I can't get over what a good job they did on the 70s styling and set dressing. Are the comedians based on any real ones? I know Goldie is based on Mitzi Shore.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 1, 2018 5:37 PM |
This led me to google Mitzi who's still alive, but suffering from Parkinsons. I wonder if it's related to the coke she used to do?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 1, 2018 5:53 PM |
Is this even getting a second season?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 1, 2018 6:35 PM |
I realized Jake Lacy’s character reminds me of Anthony Jesilnek.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 1, 2018 11:43 PM |
It's coming back in May. The tall, annoying guy from Everybody Loves Raymond who isn't Ray Romano is joining the cast. I hope it's not shark jumping.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 2, 2018 4:16 PM |
Brad Garrett. I wonder what his role will be?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 2, 2018 8:08 PM |
Sounds like the title of Timothy Tredwell or Chris Macandless bio.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 3, 2018 3:13 AM |
David Letterman got his start there. Mitzi got some good dick too. She bought a house behind the club and gave it to the comics.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 3, 2018 3:20 AM |
What about Crashing? I consider it the 30 Rock to this one's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 3, 2018 10:30 PM |
It's back. Who is Brad Garret supposed to be?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 3, 2018 3:24 AM |
I'd love to get Marc Maron's take on the show. He was a well-known, high order prick in the scene around or just after that time.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 3, 2018 3:37 AM |
Marc was at the tail end. After Dice Clay even. Who was everyone fucking at the end of this week's episode?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 3, 2018 4:09 AM |
r35 my sense of time is fucked up, I thought he was before Dice.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 3, 2018 4:27 AM |
I watched two episodes, but stopped. I thought it was too depressing, and the characters were too desperate and sad. I suspect it captures the mood of the time very well.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 3, 2018 4:40 AM |
R37 The book which the show was based on described many of the comedians as being desperate and poor. Some of the real life comedians frequently stole food and other items from The Comedy Store as payback for Mitzi Shore's refusal to pay them. The book deals quite a bit with the suicide of one comedian who blamed Mitzi for a lot of his menta health l issues. Alison Arngrim was interviewed for the book because she performed there in the 70s and 80s and she described Mitzi as very manipulative.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 3, 2018 4:58 AM |
Who on the show is gay in real life?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 3, 2018 5:31 AM |
I enjoyed the first season but I'm struggling to keep going with season 2. Too much soap drama separate from the comedy club.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 3, 2018 10:01 AM |
I'm one of the stools that was painted right before the dance routine.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 3, 2018 4:22 PM |
Damn. That was an ending. Has it been renewed?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 9, 2018 3:58 AM |
Cassie breaking the picket line annoyed the hell out of me. This season has been up and down for me. Not as good as the first season which was pretty great. But this one did have some fantastic moments.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 9, 2018 11:36 AM |
They haven't renewed it yet. The guy who plays Richard Pryor is amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 9, 2018 2:08 PM |
Spoiler alert....
Do we think Ron is dead? I knew the second I saw him skating in the white tee-shirt that he'd od, I expected there to be blood all over thr shirt but the foamy drool was a nice to callback to him laughing about Roy drooling and Chris Farley's haunting death scene photos (thanks DL).
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 9, 2018 7:09 PM |
Has anyone read the book that this is based on? Any good dish in it?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 10, 2018 4:40 PM |
Damn. That's too bad. I was really enjoying it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 29, 2018 4:38 PM |
I didn’t enjoy season two as much as season one, but am so disappointed it’s been cancelled. I loved the characters.
