Stephen Colbert

What do you DL queens think about him? I think he looks hot, besides that he's intelligent and charming. He's adorable. I'd swallow every drop of his cum, to be HOEnest.

His wonky ears distract me.

by Anonymousreply 1June 25, 2017 2:46 PM

The Catholicism grates. I thought his first season was just painful. He didn't know how to let go of the Colbert Report persona, his interviews were awful and stilted (and, you could tell, had to be heavily edited to work on the broadcast). But, he's coming into his own in his second season and has even become a better interviewer.

Still, I miss Letterman.

I had never heard of Stephen Colbert until he did those Mr. Goodwrench commercials for General Motors.

I had never seen the Daily Show (no cable TV).

Wasn't impressed. Thought he was lame-o, unfunny actor hired for a commercial like the lame-o doing the Chevy commercials now, Potsch Boyd

I grew to love the Colbert Report; it was often laugh-out loud funny, which is rare. I stuck with him through his awkward first year at CBS, but I've actually grown to dislike him, lately. He can be awkward and even patronizing with guests. His is the most annoying Trump impression and makes me reach for the remote. You can tell when he's "over it", or phoning it in. I'm not sure how long he can coast on his electoral anger, but it has been good for his ratings and I know people who think his show is only getting better.

by Anonymousreply 9June 25, 2017 4:14 PM

I think I read in a prior thread that he was neurotic and demanding.

by Anonymousreply 10June 25, 2017 4:16 PM

Colbert has to diversify away from the Trump stuff because Fallon is starting to tick back up in the ratings.

Colbert is one of the best late night hosts on TV right now imo. Not sure why some of you are bashing him on here. He's also very handsome, and you know he's hung like a horse. Smart, Hot, Funny, and Liberal - yes, please! Fallon and Corden are nowhere near as sharp-witted and smart as him. They're more concerned with doing stupid musical skits that drag on forever. Fallon's interview with Trump was a disaster, all he did was throw out softball questions. Colbert would skewer Trump.

by Anonymousreply 22June 25, 2017 6:33 PM

When Colbert had Trump on he didn't skewer him. Trump will never appear on his show again so no point of talking about what Colbert *might* do.

by Anonymousreply 23June 25, 2017 6:41 PM

Corden and Fallon are good at doing musical bits. That's what their viewers tune in to see. Why should they go political when that isn't their strength?

by Anonymousreply 24June 25, 2017 6:44 PM

[quote]surgery intended to repair a severely perforated eardrum caused him inner ear damage. The damage was severe enough that he was unable to pursue a career that would involve scuba diving. The damage also left him deaf in his right ear.

Predictions are that Colbert, Bee or Oliver will win an Emmy this year. Fallon probably won't even be nominated due to the anger over the Trump thing.

Oliver should win for the segment on Coal alone.

Damn man, you didn't notice the package on him wearing the bobsled suit at r7, r8?

by Anonymousreply 34June 26, 2017 5:00 AM

I loved the Colbert Report. Now I just watch the first 20 minutes or so of the current show. I am tired of the Trump jokes. I despise Trump, try to avoid his ugly mug on TV, and am sickened over the amount of time TV people (news & entertainment) devote to his sorry ass. I love Trevor Noah though. I also don't care for Colbert's celebrity interviews unless it's a person I am really interested in. I prefer his interviews with writers, scholars, and interesting non-actors. The skit I laughed at the hardest on the CR was his famous Paul Revere ride that spoofed Sarah Palin's idiot remarks. Love that skit!

Colbert also looks to me like he put on some weight. He's looking a little chunky and dowdy and is starting to show his age. I don't like his choice of suits. Suits don't suit him. And yes, he has a huge package.

by Anonymousreply 39June 26, 2017 5:29 PM

I use to think he might be closeted, but now I don't. I imagine he is like every other comic; painfully humorless in real life.

by Anonymousreply 43June 26, 2017 8:52 PM

I wonder if his huge package is wonky like his ear.

by Anonymousreply 44June 26, 2017 9:28 PM

R40, me too. But he's on the spectrum, halfway in the closet. Very very politically connected in the 'circles, squares and triangles of fun'.

by Anonymousreply 45June 28, 2017 11:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 46June 29, 2017 12:32 AM

He flirts with attractive female guests, too. Perhaps he's attracted to sexy people of all sexes.

by Anonymousreply 47June 29, 2017 5:37 AM

Is Colbert starting to lose steam?

Observer:

The Fallon vs. Colbert Fight for Late Night Is About More Than You Think

Fallon is back on top, however briefly. What does it mean?

[T]here has been a clear hierarchy in terms of total weekly viewers for the last 5 months: Colbert on top, Fallon in second, and Kimmel bringing up the rear. Viewers are what they fight for, and the rankings speak to the desires and emotions of the American people.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Fallon bested Colbert for the first time in weekly views since Donald Trump’s inauguration in January...

The same wind that has filled Colbert’s sails and carried him to the top of the Late Night leaderboards may be blowing him in the wrong direction. It’s no coincidence that Colbert’s fortune (and place among the late night hosts) has risen after Trump’s inauguration— picking apart the administration and its actions has become Colbert’s bread and butter, and (largely Democratic) audiences reacted favorably. To many, this was a late night host talking about (and making them laugh about) the most important issues in America.

Colbert’s rise didn’t occur in a vacuum; American interest in politics seems to have increased after the election, too, accompanied by a spike in civic engagement. It makes sense that viewers would want more of what matters to them in their television shows. But they appear to be tiring of Colbert’s formula.

I've tried to force myself to watch and laugh, but I just don't really find him funny . Highly intelligent , yes .. Attracrive in a nerdy way , but not funny . Just my opinion .

by Anonymousreply 49June 29, 2017 8:16 PM

He was only ever funny on Colbert Report.

by Anonymousreply 50June 29, 2017 8:18 PM

He looks uncut in the bobsled picture.

by Anonymousreply 51June 29, 2017 8:38 PM

I think he is very funny and I love his political bits. Big fan. Does zero for me sexually, though. He's way too "old, married straight guy with kids" to make my dick move. I get no sexual vibe from him at all.

by Anonymousreply 52June 29, 2017 8:41 PM

I'd fuck the hell out of Colbert in an instant. He's by far the most handsome of the late night hosts imo. Plus, you know he's gotta be hung like hell.

by Anonymousreply 53July 2, 2017 12:13 PM

[quote]I'd fuck the hell out of Colbert in an instant.

I'm SURE you're VERY picky.

[quote]Plus, you know he's gotta be hung like hell.

& how are you in that regard?

by Anonymousreply 54July 2, 2017 12:16 PM

I adored him on the Colbert Report. He calls his wonky ear his magic ear, and he came fold it down so that it pops back up a couple of seconds later. I never found him sexy, just smart and funny.

I won't watch him on the Tonight Show or whichever one he inherited. Like morning network TV shows, the late night format precludes high quality. It's just lowest common denominator fluff, typified by brainless smile emoji Jimmy Fallon.

by Anonymousreply 55July 2, 2017 1:32 PM

He was great in the Colbert Report, but I can't stand talk shows: the formula is stale and most of the celebrities that show up are insufferable anyway. I understand the money and the prestige are different with a late night talk show than they are with a fake news comedy show... for whatever reason, but he really should've kept doing TCR instead of taking this gig. I thought part of the reason why he stopped doing it was because he was growing older and didn't have the energy and the anger necessary to keep fighting politicians the way he did, but he is still doing it, except he is not doing it with his Colbert persona but as himself (and frankly he is not as funny and interesting as the fake him he played on TCR). Also that whatever he says is being diluted in a sea of bland celebrity interviews and seems incredibly repetitive, out of line and condescending because it's not what his new show is about: social and political commentary on TCR was on point and great, Social and political commentary in his classical talk show just sounds off.

by Anonymousreply 56July 2, 2017 2:00 PM

This should freak Trump out.

Orlando Sentinel:

The hosts of “Morning Joe” will share their insights with Stephen Colbert next week.

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of the MSNBC program will stop by “The Late Show” next Tuesday on CBS. Scarborough also will give a musical performance. The “Morning Joe” hosts have been in the headlines for drawing the Twitter wrath of President Donald Trump.

[quote]most of the celebrities that show up are insufferable anyway

Jeez, no kidding. His recent interview with Ari Graynor from "I'm Dying Up Here" was painful. For some reason I thought she would be quick and clever but she was completely vapid. And Colbert isn't strong enough with guests he doesn't really care about to salvage such a bad interview. Letterman would have at least made it fun for the audience.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Boring as fuck. Can't dress for shit. Dull, dull, dull.

by Anonymousreply 61July 6, 2017 3:14 AM

I don't think Colbert has the sort of meanness or anger in him to make an otherwise boring or insufferable interview interesting. Letterman relied on skewering the vapidity and zeroed in on the guests worst behavior or qualities when interviews were so so. There was a point where he lost the edge, though.

by Anonymousreply 62July 6, 2017 4:50 PM

Do you think Colbert is going to win an Emmy this year? This Daily Beast writer is predicting that Colbert will be nominated this year.

At the same time, the writer is speculating that Fallon will not be nominated for the first time in years due to him not being "politically relevant". This is like the third article I've read that has made this same point.

Daily Beast:

Perhaps the mustache was a last-ditch effort by Fallon to remind Emmy voters that he’s still as fun as he’s always been before that body’s nomination deadline last Monday. First for Late Night and then for the Tonight Show, Fallon has earned an Emmy nomination in the increasingly crowded Outstanding Variety Series category (now called Outstanding Variety Talk) each of the past five years, losing out to either Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, or John Oliver every time.

This year’s nominees, which will be announced a week from today, could very well see Fallon fail to make the cut in favor of more politically relevant nominees like Samantha Bee and Seth Meyers. Colbert, who was nominated 10 consecutive years and won twice for The Colbert Report, missed out on a nomination last year for his debut season as host of The Late Show, but his recent ratings surge could put him back in the conversation this year.

For Fallon to be left off that list this year would be a brutal bookend to the well-deserved backlash after he used kid gloves to muss Donald Trump’s hair just two months before the 2016 election. The host has said he was “devastated” by the response and has spent the past several months digging himself out of that hole.

A summer ’stache probably isn’t going to make his haters forgive him any sooner, but if it gets people talking about something other than his political ignorance, Fallon’s throwback facial hair could finally help him move forward.

R2, He's Christian, and the very best kind (a liberal!)- has donated to many causes and charities without any fanfare, is extremely kind, generous, witty and intelligent.

The funniest man I've met in my whole life.

by Anonymousreply 64July 9, 2017 2:45 PM

I confess I haven't watched him a whole lot, but the interviews I've seen have been horrible. Stephen doesn't seem able to look somebody in the eye, actually listen to what they're saying, and react appropriately. The guest will say something interesting, Stephen won't notice, and move on to his next canned question. Or he steps all over their vibe by trying to get the attention on himself. And he's not quick-witted in reacting to what the guest says, to take it somewhere interesting (a la Letterman, Ferguson, Kimmel, Stern, and sometimes O'Brien.) I'm sure there are others but I don't watch a whole lot of talk show interviews anymore because I've grown out of caring about films/tv shows/celebrities and such.

Fallon makes me uncomfortable because he's so nervous, desperate and needy - Colbert makes me feel even worse because he seems cold and unempathetic, on top of not being quickwitted. So I make to with Kimmel and Seth Meyers monologues, when I bother. Maybe the genre is dying?

by Anonymousreply 65July 9, 2017 2:59 PM

* make DO with Kimmel...

by Anonymousreply 66July 9, 2017 3:00 PM
