Why is so much gay porn about straight guys having gay sex?
It seems like almost all gay porn is about straight men having gay sex.
You see it on "amateur" sites like Sean Cody and Corbin Fisher where straight guys are paid to try gay sex and the more successful ones learn to really like it-- CF even talks about the "CF Education" (Whether these guys are actually straight or not is irrelevant--that's the narrative these sites are pushing.)
Next Door Studios (men.com et al) still does old school scripted scenarios, but their scenarios are all about straight guys too-- whether it's sucking off the landlord to get a break on the rent, a frat initiation stunt or two married guys having a "little secret" between them. NDS does a lot of seduction scenes too, where the "straight" guy is initially unwilling but the gay guy wins him over.
CockyBoys is the only studio that seems to actually admit the guys are gay, and it oddly enough has a huge female following, but much less love from gay men.
Theories? The usual one is that most of us develop our first crushes on straight guys and never get over it. The other is that gay porn appeals to closeted men.
What do you all think?

Gay men want guys that are most of all masculine and manly. There is still a widespread perception that openly gay men are less masculine and manly, or at least, not the hot Alpha males people want. So porn depicts the fantasy of straight men possibly being available to fulfill the Alpha male fantasies of gay men

Porn is about fantasy. "Straight" guys who really want to have sex with other guys (or who can be enticed into it) is a big fantasy.

I agree R2, but why do you think that is?
It sort of plays directly into the right wing homophobe trope that gays really just want to convert straights and shouldn't be allowed in locker rooms, schools, etc.

it's the fantasy of gay men to get what they cannot have: Straight people's approval to the point where straight men have sex with the inferior gay men class. In a perverse way it's part demeaning straight men (as fuck toys) and being accepted by straight men.

This is asked all the time, but that's alright.
A large portion of gay men hate themselves. They view themselves and other gay men as sickly, weak, subservient, less than human, prostitute-ish, inferior-everything negative, unattractive and unappealing.
They view straight men as masculine, attractive, violent, virile, powerful-everything good.
That's why some gay men are so interested in white supremacy or Islam, it's not the ideology so much that they are attracted to, it's the men they attracted to. The masculinity they exude. Christianity is sissy-ish. The Virgin Mary? Mary, please.
It's an attraction. A lot of gay men find gay bashers or gay murdered attractive. It's all linked: Straight men are violent. This homophobic "gay for pay" porn reviles gay men, it's all disconnected and passionless. It's violent and homophobic (ironically). A lot of gay men have psychological problems. Hopefully that goes away with time, but I don't know.

The many CF and SC scenes I've seen have good-looking guys enthusiastically having hot sex.
I don't care how it's marketed, just that it's good-looking men. Not that they are "seduced" or paid to do it.
The CF and SC scenes are much more GAY than Nineties "gay" for with Lex Baldwin and Jeff Stryker who refused to kiss another man, barely touching them.
The guys in CF and SC are always tongue-kissing and acting very into it.
People can create whatever scenario in their mind that turns them on, of course. But it could also just be what you see on the screen is what is appealing: hot men kissing and fucking. Not hot "straight" men. Hot MEN kissing and fucking.

A lot of gay-identified men take on attributes associated with women, or to put it more crudely, act like "fa*s." While acting like sassy drag queens and "gurls" may be funny to some, it is not attracted to the vast majority of people attracted to men, including bi and gay men. People fantasize about the construction worker, the football player, the basketball player, the Italian Stallion, the black Alpha Male, the dumb jock, and the mechanic, but very few fantasize about the male florist, male beautician. Unfortunately, gay male culture is not very masculine and reinforces stereotypes that gay men are not manly. Consequently, bi and gay men often seek men who do not identify as gay and are detached from gay culture. Just look at all the personal ads and apps where men are seeking "nongay men" or "straight4straight" or "bros4bros." Masculinity is the prized goal, not necessarily heterosexuality.

Reality of sex with straight men: premature ejaculators, no concern for their partner's experience, non-reciprocating with bad breath, poor hygiene and skid marks in their underwear. They also never train their legs.

That's complete bullshit R8 and you know it. The underlying premise of SC and CF is that you're watching straight guys trying gay sex for the first time and learning to enjoy it. They in no way try and hide that either.
I agree with you 100% R9. The whole femme gay culture, which dominates DL, is baffling to me and doesn't click with the "straight men are hot" aesthetic of gay porn. It seems many of them go out of their way to feminize themselves and then wonder why they can't find partners and are rejected by other men.

I'm not "hiding" anything. I'm telling you why the scenes are hot: it's two HOT MEN together. The second that first tongue goes into the other guy's mouth, there is no, "Whoa, man! I'm new to this!" It's just two HOT MEN having sex.

[quote]Why is so much gay porn about straight guys having gay sex?

Well the femme gay men seem to hate the masc ones and claim that being "masc" is just an act. R13
I'm not unsympathetic to the femme guys--I can't imagine how tough growing up must have been for guys like that--there's a thread on here today about some guy who is traumatized by going to his HS reunion because some bully who used to call him "fag" and beat him up will be there.
It's just that there's a huge disconnect between femme culture, which, like it or not, has become the dominant gay culture, and what most gay men seem to consider sexually attractive. It would be as if straight women were all chubby and hairy and wore baggy robes, and then wondered why they weren't attracting any guys.

The question is why is that particular role play fantasy so hot?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 23, 2017 3:09 PM

[quote]I agree [R2], but why do you think that is?
Because as a gayling, you are attracted to MEN, not gay men. You are attracted to the powerful masculine image of a man, and want this strong and decisive man to have sex with you. As you get older and hook up with other men who want the same thing, your desires and priorities shift.

R15, I get that you can't get past marketing to watch a video.

DL is an aberration from the real world because the old fem dudes here are bitter they never got the the hot masc they desired. They resent that and lash out at all the adoration masculine buff guys receive. DL has a lot of bitter elders who despise that which is popular. For this reason, No one views DL as indicative of the norm.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 23, 2017 3:14 PM

True enough R25, but wouldn't you say that DL reflects the "gay community" too-- people who are "professional homosexuals" and live in WeHo and Hells Kitchen and the like?
That tends to be what people see/think of when they think of gay men-- not the regular guys who just happen to be into other guys.

R24 GOOD Question!
I looked at one of the MANY Brandon threads on DL and thought he was gorgeous. Simple as that.
Not his life or his alleged straightness or anything like that enticed me or had me thinking about "Straight Men Being Seduced!". Just a photo of a HOT MAN.
I saw his photo, thought he was hot, went to SC and there he was. And his scenes are definitely Boyfriend Porn. And then there are dozens of scenes starring other HOT MEN like Daniel, Pavel, Stu, and even JAREC.
Same thing with Cade on CF. Saw a thread on DL, liked his photo, went to CF, and there are several hot scenes with Cade fully into it with other hot men, no forced seductions or anything.
Never paid attention to marketing. Just saw the photos of those two guys which led me to others.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 23, 2017 3:23 PM

Part of the straight guy fantasy is about being accepted by the straight guy who symbolizes all the straight men( father, brother, classmate, etc.) who rejected the gay man. A great many gay men never get over the rejection by straight males. So the idea of conquering a straight guy hits a deep desire to prove that the rejection was a sign of a deep desire of the straight men. A better fantasy would be two men discovering their own desires and going forward. But many of these sites are run by old, fat gay men who probably never got the respect, men, or sex they desired. And it sells. As gay men see themselves more in the daily world - in various manly forms- that fantasy will hopefully take a back seat. But porn is so boring and lacking in creative thought that it can't get off the toilet of self-hate and rejection.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 23, 2017 3:30 PM

R26, yes. DL is a slice of a large and growing gay/bi/fluid male community. We know at least 1/5 of men who watch male porn identify as "straight," and that is likely a major underestimate because of stigma. Also, we know many gay and bi men are not DL "professional gay" types, so while DL is part of the gay male scene, it's far from definitive.

Try an experiment: GO on Craigslist, Adam4Adam, or Jack'd and post an ad. Keep the pics and content the same, but on one ad, identify yourself as "gay;" in another ad, take out the word gay but don't identify your sexual orientation; and on the third ad say you are "straight." Guess which ad will get the fewest responses.

Porn is a highly skewed representation of sexual preferences. While it's not the only reason this trope is perpetuated, laziness comes to mind - initiating the straight guy is an easy fantasy for studios to repeat. Studios want things in easily-made, easily-marketed categories, which is why change is slow and complexity doesn't have a place in gay porn. Look at another popular category: the incest or pseudo-incest gay porn with all the stepbrothers, stepfathers, uncles, and mom's boyfriends. It sold, and studios started cranking out more and more of it with minor variations. Building from a taboo is an easy basis for porn. Does it mean that gay men don't want to fuck people who aren't related to them?
I would say that a certain masc stereotype is prevalent across categories of gay porn, but less so than in lesbian or straight porn. Outside of fetish porn, you don't see butch lesbians, or women who aren't rail-thin with huge tits and talon-like fingernails. Porn across the board has weird ways of highly exaggerating gender, but at least you do see some queeniness in mainstream gay porn.

Agreed. These G4P models who date women are likely bisexual. This is why I find it utterly ludicrous when bisexuals blame gay people for biphobia and bi-erasure. Things are changing though. The problem was that a lot of gay men grew up with that idea, or ideal, of what a (real) man is supposed to be and it's not some fag going down on another guy. Out of this self loathing the worship of the ideal man was born to follow and beg for his / their approval. But nowdays gay men have access and the option to love and accept themselves the way they are and have their own identity without having to see themselves as inferior. Gay porn, now more than ever, celebrates the gay sexual identity in a "from confidents gays for confident gays" sort of way.

Was it? The biggest star was gay4pay Jeff Stryker and the audience went supposedly batshit crazy when he *gasp* took another guy's dick in his mouth after, what, dozens of releases? And straight guys were bottoms, because they couldn't keep hard long enough to top.
I am curious to find out what made gay porn so much more gay affirming.

I find it pretty difficult to believe that 80s gay porn was more gay affirming than all the stuff you get on the internet these days. Traditional Gay Porn Studio porn (Falcon Studio, Raging Stallion, Treasure Island Media, Michael Lucas Entertainment, BelAmi, etc.) Internet porn studios (Sean Cody, Corbin Fisher, Chaosmen, MEN, Guys With Sweatpants, Cockyboys, etc.), Amateur porn on cam sites and tumblr, Eastern Europe gay porn, not to mention all the fetish porn, etc.
In the 80s there was a rather limited acces to gay porn. Fewer releases (compared to present day), limited access to gay porn releases compared to present day (porn movie theatres, rental stores, sex shops, mail order catalogues), fewer stars and models compared to present day.

Exactly. The mythological gay for pay porn state ruled the 80s. Not only did he identify as straight straight, but he Also did not kiss, suck, or rim his bottoms. He often was aloof and detached

Even men like that who willingly fuck other men always have "real" relationships with women. That's what makes it homophobic: the fear of anything more intimate with another than just a furtive sexual encounter. That's why so many American gay movies are so unsatisfying: they're just bad porn crossed with bad soap opera.

They were the ones who weren't dying of AIDS. That's also fueled the fantasy of gay man being able to attract a man who has never been with another man and thus is less likely to be infected.
