Debra as Whitney Houston, brilliant!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 5, 2017 10:08 PM |
Most anything with Stephnie Weir, but especially her Dorothy Lanier stuff. Such a delightful trainwreck.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 5, 2017 10:14 PM |
Nicole Sullivan is so under-rated.
I think she's hilarious. Not Jan Hooks hilarious, but very funny all the same.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 5, 2017 10:21 PM |
Aries Spears as Missy Elliott.
Miss Swan, in anything, but particularly the gay bar sketch.
The "Moulin Rouge" send-up.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 5, 2017 10:26 PM |
Prehistoric Glamazon Huntress A.D.
Stephnie shines again here. It takes some real talent to intentionally deliver your lines like the worst actress in the world.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 5, 2017 10:27 PM |
The "Son of Dolemite" sketches. Everyone already looks hilarious, the dialogue and action are over the top..

Any of the Cabana Chat sketches.

Anything with Stephanie Weir....but especially Dot Goddard.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 5, 2017 11:25 PM |
This is nowhere near greatest but "Shaq and the Super Lakers" as a cheap cartoon cuts me up, especially Kobe flying back and forth twelve feet in the air with the ball passing the hoop.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 5, 2017 11:46 PM |
A brilliant show. At least half a dozen of the performers should have had A-list careers.
What happened?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 5, 2017 11:55 PM |
R40 I completely agree! I am clueless why some stars make it big and others do not. Perplexing.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 5, 2017 11:57 PM |
Will Sasso's "Paul Timberman Workshop" sketches damn-near killed me..
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 6, 2017 12:04 AM |
Debrah Wilson's tattoos covering her entire body are why she has no career.
Sure signs of mental instability, so no one would hire her.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 6, 2017 12:10 AM |
What's Deborah Wilson ever done to you, r43?
i know, I know--"pointless bitchery" and all that.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 6, 2017 12:13 AM |
I'm explaining how her bizarrely mutilated body is why her career never took off after Mad TV like expected.
She looks seriously fucked up. That came across very well on the 2016 Mad TV revival when she was in candid scenes with her freakish tattooed chest and arms.
My GUESS is that Hollywood also saw/sees her as a mentally disturbed, self-multilating freak.

Dr. Phil on plastic surgery.
R30, it's too bad Andrew Bowen was on for only one season; he was cute.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 6, 2017 12:24 AM |
The Lorraine sketch in the supermarket with the mini-cups. "God, that's cute!" I believe that may have been the first Lorraine sketch.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 6, 2017 12:27 AM |
[quote] I'm explaining how her bizarrely mutilated body is why her career never took off after Mad TV like expected.
Um Hm now explain why the careers of most everyone else did not take off, post Mad TV.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 6, 2017 12:27 AM |
For some reason Will Sasso as a drunk Kenny Rogers made me bust up every time. I think it was the voice.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 6, 2017 12:30 AM |
R51 me too!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 6, 2017 12:35 AM |
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 6, 2017 12:51 AM |
oh dang wrong show :/
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 6, 2017 12:52 AM |
SNL didn't hire Wilson because she was too old.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 6, 2017 12:54 AM |
The reason their careers never took off is because FOX never hooked them up. SNL has a lot of connections; producers, writers all know some one.
I used to watch Medium and could not stop laughing at how accurate this was.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 6, 2017 1:08 AM |
A superlative talented cast! Love them! Weir and Wilson in anything, sexy Poolie!
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 6, 2017 1:39 AM |
I love the skits that showed the original endings to wizard oz and sound of music.."didn't you hear Rolf, we are Nazis now!"
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 6, 2017 1:44 AM |
Was it MAD TV that had the skit about a dead Martha Raye and her gay husband?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 6, 2017 2:26 AM |
I don't know the specific sketch, but Phil Lamar's manic guy always made me laugh hared. I just found it hilarious. I always enjoyed him. Did he ever do much after MadTV?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 6, 2017 2:12 PM |
laugh hard
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 6, 2017 2:20 PM |
R67, a ton of voicework. He's the voice of Samurai Jack, was the voice of Wilt of "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" and did a lot of superhero voicework. Most famously, he's none other than Hermes on Futurama.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 6, 2017 10:23 PM |
While their careers may not have matched SNL, Nicole Sullivan, Ike Barinholtz, Alex Borstein, Michael McDonald and Mo Collins are recognizable faces. Key and Peele are, of course, their own entity .
by Anonymous | reply 73 | June 6, 2017 10:25 PM |
There were a few hotties on the show. Bryan Callen's pool boy.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 6, 2017 10:27 PM |
Craig Anton would come out shirtless in a towel and rant about what he hated. He had a tight, lean torso with the perfect amount of hair on it. He was always greased up too.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | June 6, 2017 10:28 PM |
Andrew Bowen was hot, and basically remained as such.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | June 6, 2017 10:30 PM |
Nelson Ascencio was pocket sized, but had a decent bod. Here he is as Ricky Martin.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | June 6, 2017 10:32 PM |
MadTV had several actresses whom they'd use rather than just one they'd feature each week while the others kinda languished, they had multiple black cast members whom they didn't just use when they needed a black character and if an actor wasn't working out, they were gone pretty quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 6, 2017 10:42 PM |
Thanks, R72
by Anonymous | reply 84 | June 7, 2017 3:27 AM |
I miss this so much. Not that reboot but the original.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | June 7, 2017 3:35 AM |
Will Sasso is a cutie.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | June 7, 2017 3:38 AM |
Televised yoga class.
This skit is an exemplar of your typical American Frau! And Michael McDonald just this magical quality about him. It wouldn't be the same without him.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 7, 2017 3:39 AM |
The alternate endings to "The Sound of Music."
"Gretl, turn to metal!"
by Anonymous | reply 90 | June 7, 2017 3:59 AM |
This one was always one of my favorites.
Stephanie could commit to a skit like no other.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | June 7, 2017 5:14 AM |
I forgot how funny this show could be.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | June 7, 2017 5:48 AM |
Leona Campbell, everybody's favorite passive-aggressive old biddy
by Anonymous | reply 93 | June 7, 2017 6:06 AM |
Bobby Lee's character that says: " Give it to me hot and sloppy!"
by Anonymous | reply 94 | June 7, 2017 7:59 AM |
R67, that's Jack, the UBS guy. He made me laugh so hard, my stomach hurt.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | June 7, 2017 8:13 AM |
This one always made me laugh. Love Mo Collins trying not to crack up.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | June 7, 2017 12:16 PM |
Mo was my absolute favorite performer on this show.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | June 7, 2017 12:21 PM |
One thing that always surprised me about the show was how all the guys all had tight bodies. Even Michael McDonald (who is over 6'3") was ripped.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | June 7, 2017 4:53 PM |
R104, well not Artie Lange, Will Sasso or Bobby Lee. Sasso made up for it in sheer talent. Jordan Peele was much thinner when he was on and Keegan Michael Key was just slightly thicker.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | June 7, 2017 10:40 PM |
Requisite Key and Peele. More of a Jordan Peele spotlight.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | June 7, 2017 10:48 PM |
This clip didn't come from the show itself, but it illustrates how incredibly well Debra Wilson impersonates Oprah.
She was being interviewed at the 2008 Genesis Awards and was asked what Oprah might say if she were there. Her response (extemporaneous, I think) is fucking brilliant.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | June 8, 2017 3:16 AM |
R108 agreed
by Anonymous | reply 109 | June 8, 2017 3:21 AM |
Michael McDonald did a hilarious audio interview several years ago for Salon where he recounted coaching Faye Dunaway in comedy for a movie audition. Unfortunately, it's not up anymore, but he really nailed her voice and imperious mannerisms.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | June 8, 2017 8:17 PM |
Thanks, r111!

Gump Fiction
The very fist sketch of the series and set the trend for the show.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | June 8, 2017 11:14 PM |
THANK YOU, R100! I forgot about the Abercrombie and Fitch sketches. Hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | June 9, 2017 1:26 AM |
I love the sketch with Jordan Peele as Kilbrain.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | June 9, 2017 2:47 AM |
Is Will Sasso gay? I always thought he might be but being overweight nobody here ever speculated about his sex life.
Mad TV had quite a few gay cast members over the years - Michael McDonald, Paul Vogt, Eric Price and probably others (Ron Pederson? Nelson Ascensio?) I swear I had read that Orlando Jones had come out but I see he's married to a woman so unless he came out as bi I must be remembering wrong. No idea if any of the female cast members were gay - Alex Borstein would have been my guess but if she is she's not out. And I wouldn't be shocked if Debra Wilson had dipped her toe in the lady pool.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | June 11, 2017 12:15 PM |
Borstein is married IRL to the guy who played Jackson on "Gilmore Girls." His proposal was part of a MadTV closing credits.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | June 11, 2017 12:34 PM |
Andrew Bowen was very cute and still looks good but he didn't have the comic chops for the show so he was out after a season. I saw him in a horror movie recently, not a gorefest; he was the main character and he was good in it. But his Nick Cage on Mad TV blew.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | June 11, 2017 12:39 PM |
Bowen did a great Keanu Reeves but so do a lot of comedians.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | June 11, 2017 12:42 PM |
R120 This and some of the other gay skits (also included in this thread) seem so incredibly dated today. Pretending to be gay to feel women up? That was all the rage back in the day, wasn't it?
Of course, those skits served their purpose quite well at the time, that is to make people more at ease with homosexuality. But I still can't help but cringe watching them today.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | June 11, 2017 1:06 PM |
R121 Taran Killam was very cute and cubby as a youngster and has gayface now. I always wondered about him. Wasn't he one of the few MAD hires to cross over to SNL and meet more success there? (and who did he blow to accomplish that. exactly?)
But I jest, he is talented. He perfectly lampooned Alex Band (lead singer of the 00s pop duo The Calling) in the TRL skits. The MADTv pop music parodies are criminally unknown to fans of sketch comedy nowadays, imo (and the SNL parodies overrated, but that probably goes without saying on this thread).
by Anonymous | reply 126 | June 11, 2017 1:36 PM |
The MTV send-ups were amazing, too. I have never forgotten Nicole Sullivan as both Britney and Justin.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | June 11, 2017 1:39 PM |
This sketch was made for DL. Even has a lead named Muriel, who strokes out several times. So wrong, but so funny.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | June 11, 2017 3:38 PM |
R121, I've always just assumed that Debra Wilson is a Womon of the Isle.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | June 11, 2017 4:17 PM |
And somebody else wrote this who must post on DL- lonely Carol at the Hallmark Store.

Nicole Randall Johnson as Ka-Son, the customer service rep with an attitude. There were 4 skits: Cable TV, Valentine's day order, Club, Airport.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | June 12, 2017 10:27 PM |
Ka-Son @ Valentine's Day Order

Ms. Borstein certainly can successfully do sapphic.

by Anonymous | reply 143 | June 13, 2017 12:18 AM |
I loved the annual "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"movie parodies they did the first three seasons. Their last one was my favorite--a dead-on spoof of "Apocalypse Now"
by Anonymous | reply 144 | June 13, 2017 12:23 AM |
[quote]SNL didn't hire Wilson because she was too old.
Debra Wilson and Cheri Oteri are around the same age. Oteri joined SNL the same year that MadTV premiered.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | June 13, 2017 3:24 AM |
[quote]Taran Killam was very cute and cubby as a youngster and has gayface now. I always wondered about him. Wasn't he one of the few MAD hires to cross over to SNL and meet more success there? (and who did he blow to accomplish that. exactly?)
Taran and Jeff Richards were the only two former MadTV cast members to go over to SNL. I think Jeff Richards was only on SNL for a couple of years.

I swear Datalounge must have evolved out of these sketches. Literally!
by Anonymous | reply 150 | June 13, 2017 9:49 AM |
R132 'Taj-ay' and the arson story were gold, and I love that husband 'Rick' just no-sold the whole thing. What kind of man must he be to just shrug all that CRAZINESS off?
That sketch is kind of how I picture the Ellen Show through my cynical filter. Am I a cunt for that?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | June 13, 2017 10:23 AM |
I guess nobody here has favorite sketches from the CW MadTV reboot.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | June 13, 2017 6:09 PM |
Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
Will Sasso's Lance Bass still cracks me up.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | June 13, 2017 6:23 PM |
Great. Now we have a Ka-Son troll. WTF is that? Welcome to DL, Ka-Son.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | June 14, 2017 1:12 AM |
God crashes an awards show. The first minute of two of the sketch is missing.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | June 14, 2017 6:04 PM |
Andrew Bowen was great as Keanu Reeves. I saw him in a commercial a few weeks ago.
The Whitney and Bobby sketches with Debra Wilson and Aries Spears, brilliant!
The Abercrombie sketches, hysterical. Josh Meyers was great in those.
Anything with Key & Peele.
Debra and Nicole as the two young chola girls who were always on the prowl for hot men: "I would do him! Would YOU do him?"
Too many to list.
Mad TV was brilliant. I really miss it.

[quote] Will Sasso's Lance Bass still cracks me up.
He's great at it. Despite physically resembling Joey Fatone more closely, Will is perfect as Lance. He balances his impression so well that it hits exactly between endearingly shy and distantly creepy.
I also love Catherine Zeta-Jones calling Michael at home and getting a whore on the line in that sketch.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | June 19, 2017 3:21 PM |
R156 Will's Lance once met the real Lance in an interview for ON THE LINE. It was excruciating.
"Here's my...Bootylicious....co-star....Emmanuelle Chi--....Cri--....Chriqui."
by Anonymous | reply 165 | June 19, 2017 4:23 PM |
MADTv's entire NSYNC material was great.
The best one is their 'movie', where Lance 'goes to a war' (but somehow doesn't miss the tour), poor JC ends up paralysed and Chris fights agents in the Matrix to save the President. Best moments: Lance's deadpanned plea, "don't die in me, Man"; Joey's DL-worthy "don't touch me, I'm on drugs and alcohol!"; and Justin butch slapping his girlfriend even though she's 'the bomb-diggity' and his 'boo' (Nicole nails Justin).
by Anonymous | reply 166 | June 19, 2017 4:30 PM |
Was Bass still officially closeted at the time of that skit, R165?
What is so great about the MADTV Bass is that the joke wasn't about his sexuality or even his popstardom. The funny element was that this entertainer, supposed to be warm & accessible by profession at the very least, is always checked out emotionally and seems like he's on another planet. I remember chuckling when I heard about his space exploit for this reason - it's not laughable because he's a pop star and not a NASA member, it's funny because of course that's what a vague, distant, uncomfortably-incarnated guy (like Lance was back then) would with his time & money.
I wonder also if the MADTV impression was a little sideswipe at fundie xtianity and how it wipes out your personality. Maybe once you taste Jesus, no earthly distraction can possibly excite or delight you.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | June 19, 2017 7:53 PM |
R126 I crush hard on younger Taran with that blond curtain hair, but not now. Huh.
Is that Will Sasso’s real voice? Bc goddamn.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | November 27, 2017 10:37 PM |
Yes, Leona Campbell is the best. "oh my goodnessssss"
by Anonymous | reply 172 | November 28, 2017 12:01 AM |
MadTV KILLED Sat Night Live for years. It was actually funny stuff and much more diverse.
SNL has slowly made its way back but they still have a lot of really unfunny cast members. Almost all of MadTV were solid - but hardly any of them went on to a longer career. Sad.
Quick note - Stephnie Weir was a big improv person in Chicago in the late 90's. She was amazing and was awesome on the show. She was extremely thin - like something's wrong here - thin. But on MadTV she looked heavier and wasn't noticeably thin - in fact looked heavier than her costars.
TV thin = emaciated.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | November 28, 2017 3:04 AM |
Looking back, Mad TV had a lot of great funny women - Debra Wilson, Stephanie Weir, Nicole Sullivan, Mo Collins, Alex Borstein. All of them were better than a lot of the SNL cast members.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | November 28, 2017 3:11 AM |
Thats because Lorne Michaels and the douchebros he hires are extremely misogynistic.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | November 28, 2017 3:21 PM |
Debra Wilson was on "Superior Donuts" Monday night, it's a CBS sitcom. She's now completely bald, looked much thinner and was covered in tattoos, the tats basically stopped right in the middle of her neck! I saw her on the MadTV re-boot a few months ago, she was a guest. I was shocked when I saw all her tats, even her legs were covered with them.
Anyone know what's going on with her, is it drugs, an illness?? Debra was amazing on MadTV, she was funny, was a good actress and she could sing, then poof, she was gone.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | November 28, 2017 11:57 PM |
She's retarded
