A few months ago Time Warner Cable became Spectrum. Today I received a recorded message requesting me to call "concerning an important change in the status of your account.". If anyone has gotten the same message, what should I know before calling back?
Spectrum Cable

That's the call I got when Citibank screwed up my checking account and Spectrum's auto billing was declined. Are you sure you're current with your monthly payments?

I have TWC too, OP. Spectrum now. I can't recall if I ever got a call from them except once when I forgot to pay one month (I've since switched to automatic payments). I don't think your rate will go up, if that's what you're worried about.

Time Warner became Spectrum where I am about two months ago (although they heralded the changeover for a year in commercials).
One big difference people are talking about, and the local newspaper has written about: TWC used to be reasonable about keeping legacy subscribers on "promotional" rate plans, upon request, switching them to new promotions reserved for new customers when promotional deals expired, in part to stave off aggressive competition from Vios and satellite. Spectrum is apparently not doing that, period, either for home or business customers.

They have a massive campaign underway to lure current subscribers into a bundling plan.
Can't say if that's why they called you. Maybe you should head for the basement until the coast is clear.

The call is coming from inside the house!

R5 I think we should get married.

They're adjusting old customers who werent paying as much to higher rates. They will say it is because they are providing new functionality but it is basically the same shit just repackaged and with a higher price. Then they will schedule an appointment to have a serviceman come fuck you in the ear and steal the rest of your money.

I would say you should go to their website and if you are currently paying less than their best offer, they want to up sell you to a more expensive level, do not return their calls. If you are paying more than their current best deals, call them and get a better deal for yourself, but first call directTV and DishTV and see what they are offering even if you don't want their service you can threaten Spectrum with the satellite TV offers.

So, OP, have you called them back yet to find out what this is about?
Again this is the identical language I got from robocalls when I found out Citibank (through their own fault) had started declining Spectrum's autobilling and I was unwittingly behind in my monthly payments. The calls I got "concerning an important change in the status of your account" were that I was behind in my monthly payments and that service would be discontinued if I didn't correct it.
Why haven't you gone online to their website to check your account or called them back to find out what this is about and let us know?

Here's how it's different, at least in one new S market:
No more adjusting packages for lifelong customers. Go ahead and quit.

OP here. When I called toll-free number, Voice Mail kept asking the same questions. Hitting Zero threw me back to same questions, so I dialed local Spectrum 10-digit number. Rep said my account is current, Bundled plan is grandfathered and there are no service failures in my area. Said it looks like I got the call in error and apologized.

Spectrum in New England just went up $3.00 a month, "Broadcast' Fee for Local stations. What???? Spectrum SUCKS. We do not have a competitor where I live. If you are a new customer you pay less, if you have been with them for years, you are screwed!

R15. "Ya'll" are a redneck.

Do not call the number they left - such messages are becoming a new scam.
Whenever you get a message from a company, especially your bank or company that will want to "verify" information with you, you should always call back on their "main" business number that you've obtained yourself.

Rates will go even higher now that ATT bought Spectrum.
