Season 1 ranked as cable's top unscripted series among total viewers for 2016.

As long as Tom's alive. Afterwards, it should spiral into irrelevance pretty quickly.

This thread will hopefully attract the clams. They go in on this woman hard! Online only and anonymously, of course. They wouldn't dare show their faces or confront her in person.
Their online attacks are pretty entertaining.

Unfortunately, the ones who need to see this show the most are the ones who are deeply entrenched in the cult and are not allowed to watch this type of television show. However, the show does perpetuate the belief that the religion is a hoax that sucks away members' money and treats them awfully. Hopefully this is resulting in a decreased number of new members joining the cult.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 27, 2017 5:27 PM |
It'll last as long as all religions last. They're all awful and if there were no tax breaks and financial swindling, they would all go the way of Zeus and Hera.

R38 I'm the OP and I enjoyed the special. I'm very curious to learn about Leah's legal efforts in S2.
Mike Rinder is still so inscrutable. I half feel sorry for him and half feel like he's still capable of shooting up his workplace. He and Leah certainly make a Yin/Yang pair that's interesting to watch.

There was definite tension last night when Leah interrupted him.
I really felt for the guy who atoned for harrasing Miss Lovely.

Mike Rinder's annoyed at Leah because she's making him face truths that he doesn't want to. He's only barely begun the process of accepting his many, many sins. It won't be a pretty sight when he starts to fully accept the evil that he committed against people.

by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 2, 2017 12:51 AM |
r60 Its under part six of the link. Travolta himself talks about how bill helped scientology in an inside the actor's studio show as well.
" Scientology managed to infiltrate the US government much more recently than its IRS infiltration, and it was Bill Clinton who made it possible. Clinton appeared to advocate for the cult internationally, largely unknown to US citizens. An incident between the US State Department and our ally Germany was sparked over Germany's refusal to allow the United States to pressure it into allowing Scientology to operate freely within their country. This was the US Government that was advocating on Scientology's behalf to an international ally. Germany in no uncertain terms rebuffed the effort. You've got to give the Germans credit - from experience they know a crazy, nihilistic, sadistic and dangerous mind control cult when they see one.
The story below is told in excerpts from the original report from Canadian Sociologist Dr. Kent. The full document may be found here.
It is well known that John P. Coale and his wife, were strong supporters of Democrats, specifically Bill Clinton and later, Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. It was just a year after Clinton took office that the IRS did its famous switcheroo and handed Scientology its tax free status, after battling against exactly this outcome for years. The details of the meeting in which this happened have always seemed strange. Definitely some back room politicking went on. Questions can be raised about whether those who control the copyrights on Hubbard's books at the highest levels are even Scientologists, but instead are highly placed former IRS officials and attorneys."
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 2, 2017 1:13 AM |
John P Coale and his wife Greta Van Susteren are not democrats. As a matter of fact John P Coale was an adviser to Sarah Palin, don't know if he still is.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 2, 2017 1:19 AM |
John and Greta are scientologists, they are also friends with bill and Hillary. In a 2006 blog post, Coale wrote that he was “an active supporter of the Democratic Party and its causes,” adding that he “worked closely with the Clinton administration on the issues of tobacco control and reformation of gun laws. John is also a staunch supporter of women’s rights and equality, something that has earned him a position on the editorial board for Ms. Magazine; John is the only male ever to have served in this capacity.” They flip-flopped after hill lost in 08' I believe.

They are, John and Greta, hard to figure out. John supports people from both parties. Greta doesn't let on who she supports, but I can see why considering her job. He supported Martin O'Malley in the primary, who he has been friends with for 15 years. He's not a very good Scientologist if he can't convert the Clinton's and O'Malley's. ;)

Bill Clinton let this tax exemption/extortion thing happen?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | June 2, 2017 5:29 PM |
The Irs was in talks with scientology for years but didn't come to an agreement until Clinton was in office. "In August 1993, the two sides reached an agreement. The church would receive its coveted exemptions for every Scientology entity in the country and end its legal assault on the IRS and its personnel."
Fred T. Goldberg Jr is the other person responsible this mess...
Allegedly, Scientology officials, including Church leader David Miscavige, paid private investigators to acquire some unspecified compromising information on Goldberg during his time as commissioner, and then arrived at his office without an appointment one day to demand terms.[1][2] The meeting was not listed on Goldberg's appointment calendar, which was obtained by The New York Times through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).[citation needed]
While details are not known, it was under Goldberg's administration that the long running IRS/Scientology legal conflict ended, though it took two years (under two other Commissioners) to work out the details.[3] Scientology received a unique tax exemption in 1993 and the IRS has refused to release the agreement, even after a FOIA request by the New York Times and when requested by the court in the Sklar[who?] case.[4] (A draft version of the agreement was leaked to the WSJ and published late in 1997.)[5] In early 2002, Judge Silverman, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit wrote the following: "If the IRS does, in fact, give preferential treatment to members of the Church of Scientology—allowing them a special right to claim deductions that are contrary to law and rightly disallowed to everybody else—then the proper course of action is a lawsuit to stop that policy. The remedy is not to require the IRS to let others claim the improper deduction, too."[6] Goldberg went on to be Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy in the United States Department of the Treasury.
The whole story behind this is shady as fuck, so many people have dirty hands.

John F Kennedy Jr in "George Magazine" showed the quid pro quo for that deal. The novel Primary Colors depicted a "Bill Clinotn-like" southern governor/president who was a rapist, druggie, and crook with a horrible lesbian wife. Travolta was cast as the star.
Clinton and Travolta had one of those "accidental" meetings . American policy changed and the film became a love-letter to a marvelous rogue you had to cheer for.

Well, I think it's great that Leah is keeping busy. I don't have any feelings regarding her personally, or as an actress. I've watched King of Queens (or whatever it was called) perhaps a total of 5 times with my now deceased grandmother. It was her favorite show, so I'd watch it with her. I actually liked it too, and Leah was really cute in it.
I don't see why Leah is getting all of this praise as some sort of groundbreaker regarding busting open the clams. Tony Ortega has done way more in my opinion. Almost everything that I know about the clams and their dirty tricks, I know because Ortega put himself out there. That was a big deal. And even before then, the clams were already getting a nasty reputation throughout Hollywood.
As far as Elizabeth Moss being in this group, it is a fucking shame. Out of all of its members, Moss is one of the few who can actually act, and has a long career ahead of her, with the ability to choose high quality roles for top quality scripts and productions. I know it is a cult, and plenty of actors are whacky, but I , for the life of me, cannot understand how people of average to above average intelligence fall for this shit. Unbelievable.

Pretty much every up and coming Hollywood actor gets hit up by Scientology, at one point, R91. It happens in what appears to be the most casual and innocent of ways.
My ex had just completed his first major film when they hit him up. He had met a clam at a party held by his then agency, Endeavor (before they merged with WM). Anyhow, we had just gotten our first place together, and we were invited to attend a party at their Celebrity Center. I said "Fuck no!", right from the start, however, he attended with his agent, and the clam he had met at the Endeavor party.
After that, we were bombarded with mail from the COS. When I say that we got a minimum of 10 to 12 pieces of mail from them on a weekly basis, I'm not exaggerating. They even got my name somehow, and were sending equal amounts of correspondence to me. Once we moved several years later, the mail continued, and it continued after we broke up. They kept getting my address no matter where I went.

This week they interviewed two molestation victims and discussed how the "Church" covered it up. Of course it was nothing different to how any other churches, schools, or other organizations have covered up sexual abuse. Supposedly this season they will focus on helping victims take action against the Church. They accompanied the two abuse victims to the police station to file a report.

R88 you don't get it but in your post you pretty much sum up why Leah Remini is having quadruple the affect of Tony Ortega. She is a sitcom star and someone a random Grandmother in Omaha trusts. Yes there have been others that have done groundbreaking prestige documentaries, books, and blogs on the subject but Leah is bringing this information out to the masses. She also at the least emboldened some of the women who were raped by Danny Masterson to come forward.

Leah's comments about Cruise (who she actually did know) in her latest Reddit AMA (as quoted in the US Weekly article linked by a poster above) are very interesting:
"Leah Remini has another target in her crusade against the Church of Scientology.
During a Reddit AMA on Tuesday, August 15, the actress was asked if her former friend Tom Cruise is a good person.
"No! Just going to get straight to it, no!" Remini, 47, responded.
"There is a public persona of the guy who looks at you directly in the eye and shakes your hand and hugs you and is an attentive person to you and there's the person behind the mask who is a completely different person."
The King of Queens alum continued, "Someone could say we all have that — what we are to the public and who we are behind the scenes, but the people who are around Tom and work for Tom, not even people who are Scientologists, they will say he is diaboloical [sic]."
Remini noted that some people she has worked with in the past might say she "can be an a--hole," but claimed it's a different story for the Top Gun actor, 55, who is one of the most high-profile members of the Church of Scientology.
"He's very similar to David Miscavige, they could be twins," she wrote, referencing the organization's leader

Does anybody here know what kind of "diabolical" shit Cruise does behind the scenes (that Leah is referencing)?
She's saying that even the *non-Scientologists* who work for/with him would easily call him diabolical...
(And she also says he's just like Miscavige--and we know from the series that Miscavige has major rage issues and frequently beats/physically abuses people (including grown men, who just take it)
So what does Tom do??
by Anonymous | reply 121 | August 21, 2017 3:44 AM |
One of the things that Tom has been accused of is turning a blind eye to abuses inflicted on fellow Scientologists. For example, Miscavige provides Tom with a huge staff to serve all of his personal and professional needs. Tom ignores the fact that these people are forced to work for Tom and are paid a pittance.
Scientologists provided by Miscavige do things like construction on Tom's homes. Tom pays nothing and ignores the fact they he's benefiting from what is essentially slave labor.
This is just one thing that Tom has been accused of.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | August 21, 2017 3:51 AM |
Hasn't TOM been singled out for being verbally abusive to those Scientology slaves? The sea org?

I really like this show. I've also been a fan of Leah since her king of queens days. She's really funny and beautiful. But I hope Leah is well protected because of what she's exposing to the world about scientology. That's basically a corporation with powerful people with in that organization who hold a lot of power. I just hope she's being well looked after and protected. People with money can be very corrupt. And there's no telling what they'll try to do. All the best Ti Leah. As well as former followers of that toxic cult.

I hope they cover the strange "suicide" of David Miscavige's mother-in-law (mother of his missing wife, Shelly).
"Indeed, it does. Over the years, interest in the death of Flo Barnett has endured because of her connection to the Church of Scientology — Barnett’s daughter, Michelle “Shelly” Barnett, in 1981 married David Miscavige, who today is the supreme leader of the worldwide religion. Flo was Miscavige’s mother-in-law, and Shelly herself has not been seen in public with her husband since 2006. But that’s a story we’ll be going into on another day.
There is another reason why Flo Barnett’s death is still a matter of interest on the Internet, I told Kitchings.
Quite a few of us, I explained to her, wonder how Barnett managed to shoot herself three times in the chest and once in the head — with a long rifle — in what the County Medical Examiner ruled was a suicide."

Lots of shocking statements in last night's episode, but the most shocking was seeing a paid ad for Tom Cruise's new movie during the program.
Was it just a fuckup mistake? It seems if Tom still had any Hollywood power, he would have banned all ads on A&E. Seems this is another big sign that Tom's Hollywood big power player days are now long gone and he's now just another actor for hire with no say in his movie's promotion.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | September 6, 2017 2:12 PM |
Someone commented on the weirdness of seeing a Cruise movie ad and here is Leah's response:

Why are you fools still watching this BS? I have it on good authority that Leah is batshit crazy, and sleeps around, and her co-star Mike is a kid-toucher. The Church found out, expelled them, and this is how they're trying to get even. Don't believe a word they say.
Praise Xenu.

I honestly don't understand how so many actors are drawn into this exhausting cult. I'm assuming the actors are treated as elites and given special treatment that the SeaOrg slaves don't get because I don't see how anyone could defend this "religion". I can't imagine working and having to attend audits and read all those damn books.

I vaguely remember when Kirstie went on some tirade years back when a journalist called Scientology a cult. I saw the video of it somewhere.
Anyone else remember this? I know that I probably the details wrong. But, her response to Kathy Najimy reminded me of that video rant.

R162 It worked ok back in the 80s when Valerie Harper's character was killed off in a sitcom.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | September 17, 2017 2:52 AM |
The network must think that hiring Leah and killing off the wife is a slam dunk. Otherwise, they wouldn't risk doing something so jarring to its mostly older and unadventurous audience. CBS is a very conservative network and sitcom success in 2017 is extremely fragile. They are confident that they made a winning decision.
We shall see!

r164, that older and unadventurous audience likely also loved the long-running CBS King of Queens with the same leads, so it's not really much of a gamble to make the switch to Leah at this point.
Big bonus for Leah at this point as she now gets to spend her big network TV paychecks as she wants, rather than giving most to the cult.
Moss still needs to give up most of her earnings, but Hulu ain't paying shit, so it's not much going to the cult.

Did anyone listen to the Leah interview on RuPaul's pod cast? It's pretty good.
It was taped in Feb 2016 which was long before the Emmy nomination. She is asked about her interest in acting jobs and Leah mentions "a one-off comedy thing I did for friends" (now we know it was her 1 episode appearance on Kevin's new show). But when pushed, she said she's not interested in full-time acting work at the moment. It sounds like she had other projects lined up that didn't include acting.
All of this makes me wonder if she was initially reluctant when offered the FT job and then accepted an offer she couldn't refuse. She certainly knows how much money can be made from a hit sitcom so I wouldn't be surprised if she's getting paid big big bucks to costar on this show.
Suck it, Miscavige.

by Anonymous | reply 177 | September 18, 2017 7:47 PM |
Leah's been working in Hollywood long enough to know that even under the best circumstances, as an aging woman, her job prospects are rapidly dwindling every year. Plus, in terms of acting, she's a one-trick pony who's ridden her acting ability a lot further than it should have been able to go. The sitcom gig is lottery money for her and she's been well aware that she was going to need to pursue other money making avenues anyway.

TC doesn't get surprise questions during publicity. Unless the interviewer wants that to be his last TC interview. For many decades now, when someone interviews TC they need to agree to topics that they will not ask him. Certainly Leah has been on that list for many years. Plus, he'd have several official cult spokespeople with him for all interviews.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | September 22, 2017 1:28 PM |
Oh really, R190, Matt Lauer asking Tom about Brooke Shields was a question that Tom wanted to answer? Did Tom's people approve of him looking crazed while calling Lauer "glib"? The time where stars could make demands of interviewers is long gone. Tom's old publicist, Pat Kingsley, was the master of keeping interviewers in line or they would risk losing access to all her movie start clients. However, Tom fired her right before his infamous Oprah appearance. And with the internet and social media, this old system doesn't work anymore. But I have no idea if anyone will bother asking Tom anything about Scientology.

Some of these former Scientologists featured on the show seem quite....simple. Were they naive and dumb before joining S or did being in S rot their brains?
by Anonymous | reply 201 | September 24, 2017 10:59 PM |
Most of the people featured in the show were either born into Scientology or joined with their parents when they were children. The series has featured many multi-generation families. Others joined in the early 70s. Education for Scientology children is poor to say the least and if they join the Sea Org at 13 or 14 as many are pressured to, their education ceases altogether. A lot of their "ecclesiastical" activities like their courses, auditiing, and sec checking involves so much repetition for hours on end that it does serve the purpose of numbing, if not outright mind washing.

I think some of the stories and claims are getting repetitive, thus the lack in interest. My guess is that money plays a big role, R226, but it's a great question.

R227 that whole organization needs to be brought down. For once and for all.

R226 this is always my frustration. 'Going Clear' touches on the organization's influence on government a little bit. I vaguely remember a creepy clip of Miscavige (sp?) at his podium bragging to a large congregation about how the government is no match for him. It was very Jim Jones-ish and over the top. I think this was about tax exempt status but it seemed to hint they had a lot of lobbying power, legal representation, influence over the government. Who knows if it's just the bragging of an ego maniac but I wouldn't doubt that the organization has at least some considerable money, legal muscle and some political influence bought with it. Hopefully with public pressure the scales will tip a little bit.

R229 that's scary. That's why we need real leadership in Washington and not people who will allow themselves to be bribed by corrupt money. Something needs to be done about scientology and the way they operate.

Does the Janet Reitman book "Inside Scientology" touch on the clams' influence on the government? I have been thinking about reading that one. I read Going Clear when it was first released.

Oh dear. Leah is siding with the accused and not the accuser. I hope this doesn’t bite her in the ass.

The COS plays dirty.

When I’m bored I watch Late Night talk show clips on YT and I recently found this one. It’s somewhat old but it’s surprising to me that Conan “goes there” with Leah about the disappearance of Shelley M and physical abuse of parishioners.

How does Leah have the grace not to tell Kevin how much their current show sucks?

Renewed!
Season 3 of Leah’s hit show is on the way

R55, R56 & R213 Danny Masterson IS creepy and emotionless. His wife Bijou Phillips is really gross and scary too. I think he must be similar to the character he plays in Smiley Face: Anna Faris' psychopath skull-fucking roommate.

R266 The answer to why they have the LAPD and other entities not doing anything to stop them is that there are fixers. Two big ones are Marty Singer and Jules Kroll. Pay them a fee and all your problems go away.

Federal government agencies including the IRS did go after them back the '60s and 70s. But, as R238 said LAPD and other entities get money from COS for protection. COS in Clearwater, FL employs off duty or retired cops as security and also to infiltrate the local government there. Some Clearwater residents have talked about how much COS controls the town.

It’s such a unique program, I’m curious to see how it evolves if the subject matter strays from Scientology.

Scary shit.

R239 big money to be made or retired cops if Scientology or celebrities hire them. That is why the LAPD acts very corruptly when celebrity cases or Scientology cases are involved. Also the fixers - Jules Kroll and Marty Singer have the whole system rigged if you can afford their fees.

I just started watching this series, and was not expecting so many tears from peoples’ stories. This show is really well done so far. I’m just astounded, overall. Of course I knew generally about Scientology and constantly drove by the centers when I lived in Los Angeles. But it’s mind blowing that this even exists at all. My own midwestern city has a Scientology center. There’s a receptionist who sits in front of a fireplace. Creepy. Where did people come up with the money to throw around on these bogus books and classes.. unbelievable.

Can anyone familiar with Clearwater, FL comment on the last two episodes? In them, they discuss that Scientology has tried to take over the city by buying most of the downtown Clearwater property, and as a result downtown Clearwater is like a ghost town.
