I need a pair of quick slip-ons that are very comfortable with walking around during errands and to wear on planes.
I've considered sketchers but my foot is somewhat wide.

Man or woman?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 25, 2017 11:19 PM |
My most comfortable shoes are Topsiders, OP. It's partly because I have wide feet, especially my right foot. I don't know that I'd recommend them, though. Not a lot of support. And you may already hate them.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 25, 2017 11:22 PM |
Sketchers have no support, so they could hurt your feet

mephistos, expensive but great walking shoes
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 25, 2017 11:25 PM |
I like Merrell. Reasonable and they last forever.

New balance
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 25, 2017 11:27 PM |
Allbirds are the most comfortable show I have ever worn. Period.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 25, 2017 11:29 PM |
These may be the ugliest shoes I've ever seen.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 25, 2017 11:29 PM |
Finn Comfort shoes run wide. I have a pair of the Garmisch boots that feel great. I have tried on some of their walking shoes but haven't bought any. Finn Comforts have a weird footbed that you may not like. In that case, I recommend Clarks Unstructured line, most of which if not all are lined in lambskin.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 25, 2017 11:30 PM |
Ballet slippers. Then you can prance up and down on the aisle of the plane and entertain everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 25, 2017 11:34 PM |
R10, I wonder whether I'd fall out of these shoes (Finn Comfort's Venice) while walking.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 25, 2017 11:35 PM |
On Shoes are amazing. Lightweight and lots of support.
I have a pair to my clothes horse—and very picky—older brother a few Christmas's ago and he LOVES them.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 25, 2017 11:35 PM |
Merril's are actually pretty comfortable, and they look decent enough.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 25, 2017 11:36 PM |
Asics. Go to a running store. They will have you walk on a treadmill and watch how your feet plant. Then they will recommend shoes based on the video of you on the treadmill.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 25, 2017 11:38 PM |
Usually the uglier the shoe the better.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 25, 2017 11:38 PM |
My last pair of Asics should me comfortable walking shoes, but they aren't. I get such an uncomfortable stretch of some long muscle in my foot, I never wear them anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 25, 2017 11:40 PM |
OP / R12, I would fall out of those. I have to have a shoe with a back on it. Preferably lace up. I'm a clumsy MFer.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 25, 2017 11:42 PM |
Thanks, R18. I don't think I've ever worn a shoe without a back.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 25, 2017 11:43 PM |
Ecco's

Tell the salesperson you want the ones with Velcro.

Eldergays and old ladies swear by SAS shoes.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 25, 2017 11:54 PM |
preferably in white. Ask for the ones that make that scritch scritch scritch sound with every step you take. Accessorize with white support hose.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 25, 2017 11:54 PM |
I know I didn't write the repay at r2, so it must be my doppelganger. I only wear Top-siders, everywhere. I have for several decades.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 25, 2017 11:58 PM |
My mom is a nurse, and she's been wearing SAS shoes for over 20years. Won't wear anything else.
I've been wearing their sneakers for a few years now, and they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Lots of sizes and widths, including hard to find, and no break-in time.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 25, 2017 11:59 PM |
I have very wide feet and a high instep, so I never wear slip-ons. I usually get Rockport, New Balance, or Propet. They have a good selection in the wider widths.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 26, 2017 12:12 AM |
Clark's Desert Boots. You can ad an inner sole if you need it, but maybe you don't.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 26, 2017 12:44 AM |
NAOTs, found them to be comfortable and for me long lasting.

Fila. I love my Fila walking shoes. They're incredibly comfortable, the cushioning has saved me from a whole heap of back pain that I used to get from walking pavements and rough ground.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 26, 2017 2:12 AM |
I have to automatically eliminate any brand that doesn't come in wide widths. And the majority of them are like that. And for the brands that DO have different widths, they don't make those widths in all their styles. It's very limiting to have extra-wide feet.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 26, 2017 2:15 AM |
Walking shoes? Shoes don't walk, silly...
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 26, 2017 2:34 AM |
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 26, 2017 2:38 AM |
Same here, R24. They're the only shoes I find comfortable. Do you have wide feet?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 26, 2017 3:39 AM |
Try Dr Scholls. They are inexpensive and come in wide width.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 26, 2017 3:46 AM |
Those LL Bean Trekker shoes.
They come in wide widths.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 26, 2017 3:55 AM |
Another vote for Merrells. Comfortable right out of the box, excellent foot support, long wearing and made specifically for both men and women.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 26, 2017 3:55 AM |
I used to love Merrels, then I heard the brand was sold to a company in China. The next time I was in a shoe store I took a look at them and found that while the styles looked the same, the soles of the shoes were now made of thin, cheap materials. This was a while ago, maybe the makers have gone back to making a quality product. But I doubt it.
I bought KEEN shoes, and I love them.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 26, 2017 5:16 AM |
r37 Try having extra wide feet in size 16/17. If it weren't for internet shopping I'd be wrapping my feet in duct tape and rags.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 26, 2017 5:16 AM |
I love slip-ons, have a wide toe box and need good support. Born used to be my #1 go-to brand. Now I usually just get a pair of the Blast II below each year. Sadly, the quality has declined in the past several years. They used to be AMAZING with the most comfortable footbed imaginable. Now they cost a bit less but aren't as cushy and don't last as long. But they are my go-on-planes, run to the store shoe.
Have found that I love Keens, particularly the ones with the wide funky looking toe boxes. Sadly, they don't make many slip-ons. But they did make a slip-on winter shoe - the Brixen Lo - that I have worn out the past two winters. Amazing. If you are in a cold climate and can find a pair, I highly recommend them.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 26, 2017 5:48 AM |
Rockport.
I've got wide feet too. I bought these slip-ons three years ago and I've worn them all over Europe on vacations. I heard about the comfort off of Rick Steve's site. They are absolutely the most comfortable shoes I own. My feet are not so sore after walking all day in these!

Adidas ultra boost. There's nothing like it.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 26, 2017 6:39 AM |
Actually you need boots for walking
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 26, 2017 6:43 AM |
Sarah Jessica Parker shoes are comfortable - if you're sitting down.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 26, 2017 10:58 AM |
I like Merrells they have lots of styles. I wear the slip on mules but they also have more sporty type shoes.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 26, 2017 11:03 AM |
Can't believe I bought "negative heels" in the 70s.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 26, 2017 11:14 AM |
So did I, R57. I had earth shoes loafers. I found them SO comfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 26, 2017 2:03 PM |
Rockport.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 26, 2017 2:18 PM |
These are called shoes. They are slip o loafers, and French. They go on the feet, for walking. They are "good" shoes and "good walking shoes". I have pairs that are 30+ years old and going strong.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | April 26, 2017 2:35 PM |
Crocs, sorry to say. I wear them when I need to up and on my feet after a 30km hike. The ones that look like top siders are the best looking.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 26, 2017 2:48 PM |
As for walking sandals I like Teva and Keen but they are, be aware, sporty looking.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | April 26, 2017 2:49 PM |
Tevas are not comfortable. They made the skin on the soles of my feet split.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 26, 2017 3:04 PM |
If you want something casual, Van's slip-ons.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 26, 2017 4:30 PM |
Around the house and in the yard -- crocs
In summer-- croc flip flops
My GI dr wears great suits with brown crocs
Find out what foot problems you have. Flat feet? High arches? Over pronation? Hallux valgus?
I get pure stride orthotics for my dress shoes
I have sneakers with a rubber piece on the bottom that prevents me from landing all my body weight on the ball of my feet. Great relief. There are manufacturers who make shoes with this feature built in already, like Clarks Wave and New Balance rocker sole (not the same thing as those huge sketchers rocker bottoms)
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 26, 2017 4:41 PM |
No need to be sanctimonious, R60. Most of us have shoes such as you pictured, but I'm sure they're not what OP is looking for. You have 30 year old shirts with French cuffs, too. They wouldn't work either.

R1, I'm a man

Ivanka shoes?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | April 26, 2017 9:06 PM |
And yet, r67, well made leather soled shoes worked for about a century, feel great, are healthy for the feet, and look civilised.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | April 26, 2017 10:29 PM |
R66 CROCS????? GROSS.
You have to be a lesbian. Most gay men would rather be dead than wear these ugly things.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | April 26, 2017 11:23 PM |
Birkenstocks
by Anonymous | reply 72 | April 27, 2017 6:35 PM |
I love Birkenstocks, too, R72...they are my house shoe. But I don't wear them out much. I think it's too dangerous to drive in them.
I wish they would bring back the Zurich. Love the one big strap instead of the two. So much easier to slip on and off.
Have any of you ever tried to enclosed Birkenstock shoes? Are they good?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | April 27, 2017 7:29 PM |
Keens are great for wide feet
by Anonymous | reply 75 | April 27, 2017 8:01 PM |
Can someone kill me when I ask a similar question? Nice looking expensive shoes hurt, that's how it should be
by Anonymous | reply 76 | April 27, 2017 8:42 PM |
Just go to the shoe store and find the ugliest pair in the shop, these will be the most comfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | April 27, 2017 9:19 PM |
R75 Doubtful, since they don't even offer wide sizing.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 27, 2017 10:22 PM |
Merrells. Comfy straight out of the box, last forever.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 25, 2018 3:02 PM |
As R13 said, On running (On cloud). I’ve never felt so excited or obsessed about a shoe. And yes they slip on. I LOVE THESE SHOES. They actually took away my foot/arch pain I had from wearing Nike. They are lightweight, so comfortable, and just have a cool look. I would have more pairs but they’re expensive, at $130+ . I got the basic On Cloud at DSW for $100.
