Freier Fall 2

Looks interesting. I'd like to watch the original film.

The original was wonderful, one of my favorite gay themed movies, Europeans seem much more able to write compelling gay movies, for whatever reason, they are always better than American gay movies. I hope they manage to make a sequel.

Freefall was really rather brilliant. It was one of the few gay films on Netflix that didn't make me want to punch something. Less "oh we're so worthy!" and more focused on the actual story (which was anchored by excellent performances).

Pretty big budget for the new film, I must say.

Free Fall was a simple story, but I really enjoyed it, it was executed well. Plus Max Riemelt and Hanno Koffler did a great job really carrying it, and of course, they are gorgeous to look at and are happy to get naked for the camera. All in all that makes it a gem to watch.

Yeah, I see they are doing it in "stages", but the idea of crowdfunding 3 million euros for this film seems utterly absurd.

The first one can't have been much of a money spinner if they're begging for money for the sequel.

Neither Max Riemelt and Hanno Koffler has commented on his sexuality. Max has a daughter, though.

R14, did you mean Hanno? He has a daughter, but is not married to the mother. From what I have heard from acquaintances at the Braunschweig Staatstheater, Hanno is straight.

It is Max Riemelt who has a daughter. Hanno Koffler does not have any children I am aware of.

Also Stephen Lacant, the director of Free Fall, is also straight which really shocked me.

Though I guess the same is true for "Brokeback Mountain", straight director with two supposedly straight actors.

Max and Hanno had far more chemistry together than Heath and Jake ever did. They really went there for this movie.

Most gay films make me cringe. But this looks good.

It is a very good film and from the word of mouth, I am surprised it did so poorly. Both actors have a following in Germany.

Interesting r19, if that instagram commenter is right it looks like even Max Riemelt at the time had no idea that Hanno Koffler had a daughter.

So I guess they both have a daughter with an ex.

I, too, really enjoyed Freier Fall, and I also thought the two main actors had such intense chemistry. I really hope the sequel gets made.

Amazon Prime members can buy or rent it for less than the price of a movei ticket.

It's well-acted, but for a movie made 3-4 years ago, homosexual "coming out" is treated like it was back in the 90s (or even before) hugely traumatic and mystifying; and young women have no clue at all their macho, homoscocially-oriented men like dick.

Yeah so many of my favorite gay movies are non-Americans. Un Amour à taire, La Mala Educación, Yossi and Jager and Yossi, Hawaii, Contracorriente.

Sadly a lot of American gay films tend to seem like shit by comparison of what is being done abroad.

The few British gay films I've seen have been awful as well. The people are always so trashy. Lower class. Odd accents and such.

I keep the Netflix DVD account for two reasons -- no buffering issues and a lot of independent and/or European films like Free Fall are not consistently available on Netflix streaming.

Agreed. It isn't specifically a "gay movie" per se, but obviously still pretty gay and I quite enjoyed it.

Oh, God - I turned it off before we got there, thank goodness.

The first film was underwhelming. This film could have been done in the early 90's and it would have had more of an impact.

Looked online-- it seems to attract a large frau fansbase-- the same fraus who diddle themselves over the sex scenes in Queer As Folk.

R36, most movies made abroad are usually superior to US films, gay or otherwise. Anyone seen Le Rafle from France? A near masterpiece in all ways, which won all sorts of awards in Europe, but hardly anyone in US has heard of it.

The plot of Free Fall is very simple. But Hanno Koffler and Max Riemelt are gorgeous to look at and break your heart with their acting.
