Freier Fall 2

Help make it happen! Freier Fall was such a compelling and well-crafted gay-themed movie, but it leaves you wanting more. The creators of the original are asking for 3 million euros to make the sequel.

Looks interesting. I'd like to watch the original film.

by Anonymousreply 1April 17, 2017 5:32 PM

The original was wonderful, one of my favorite gay themed movies, Europeans seem much more able to write compelling gay movies, for whatever reason, they are always better than American gay movies. I hope they manage to make a sequel.

by Anonymousreply 2April 17, 2017 5:33 PM

Freefall was really rather brilliant. It was one of the few gay films on Netflix that didn't make me want to punch something. Less "oh we're so worthy!" and more focused on the actual story (which was anchored by excellent performances).

by Anonymousreply 3April 17, 2017 5:35 PM

Excellent film!

by Anonymousreply 4April 17, 2017 5:39 PM

Agree R3!

by Anonymousreply 5April 17, 2017 5:53 PM

Pretty big budget for the new film, I must say.

by Anonymousreply 6April 17, 2017 5:59 PM

Free Fall was a simple story, but I really enjoyed it, it was executed well. Plus Max Riemelt and Hanno Koffler did a great job really carrying it, and of course, they are gorgeous to look at and are happy to get naked for the camera. All in all that makes it a gem to watch.

[quote]Pretty big budget for the new film, I must say.

Yeah, I see they are doing it in "stages", but the idea of crowdfunding 3 million euros for this film seems utterly absurd.

by Anonymousreply 7April 17, 2017 6:07 PM

The first one can't have been much of a money spinner if they're begging for money for the sequel.

Who'd want to invest in this?

by Anonymousreply 8April 17, 2017 6:26 PM

It only grossed $599,721.00? Really?

by Anonymousreply 9April 17, 2017 6:31 PM

Well it must be available free somewhere then because everybody has seen it.

by Anonymousreply 10April 17, 2017 6:46 PM

Here's the link to the contribution page. They're almost at €90,000 so far.

Do we know if the actors are gay or not?

by Anonymousreply 12April 17, 2017 7:20 PM

not

by Anonymousreply 13April 17, 2017 7:35 PM

Neither Max Riemelt and Hanno Koffler has commented on his sexuality. Max has a daughter, though.

by Anonymousreply 14April 17, 2017 7:44 PM

^ Neither Max nor Hanno...

by Anonymousreply 15April 17, 2017 7:45 PM

R14, did you mean Hanno? He has a daughter, but is not married to the mother. From what I have heard from acquaintances at the Braunschweig Staatstheater, Hanno is straight.

by Anonymousreply 16April 17, 2017 7:52 PM

Huh r14? Both Max and Hanno are straight, officially anyway.

by Anonymousreply 17April 17, 2017 8:01 PM

[quote]did you mean Hanno? He has a daughter, but is not married to the mother.

It is Max Riemelt who has a daughter. Hanno Koffler does not have any children I am aware of.

Also Stephen Lacant, the director of Free Fall, is also straight which really shocked me.

Though I guess the same is true for "Brokeback Mountain", straight director with two supposedly straight actors.

Max and Hanno had far more chemistry together than Heath and Jake ever did. They really went there for this movie.

by Anonymousreply 18April 17, 2017 8:09 PM

For R18.

It was probably marketed badly if it did so badly financially.

I've never heard of it before and it's right up my street (I think Americans say alley).

Most gay films make me cringe. But this looks good.

by Anonymousreply 20April 17, 2017 8:15 PM

It is a very good film and from the word of mouth, I am surprised it did so poorly. Both actors have a following in Germany.

by Anonymousreply 21April 17, 2017 8:18 PM

Interesting r19, if that instagram commenter is right it looks like even Max Riemelt at the time had no idea that Hanno Koffler had a daughter.

So I guess they both have a daughter with an ex.

by Anonymousreply 22April 17, 2017 8:23 PM

R6, that accounts only for ticket sales in Germany.

by Anonymousreply 23April 17, 2017 8:39 PM

^ R9. My bad.

by Anonymousreply 24April 17, 2017 8:40 PM

I, too, really enjoyed Freier Fall, and I also thought the two main actors had such intense chemistry. I really hope the sequel gets made.

by Anonymousreply 25April 17, 2017 8:58 PM

Amazon Prime members can buy or rent it for less than the price of a movei ticket.

It's well-acted, but for a movie made 3-4 years ago, homosexual "coming out" is treated like it was back in the 90s (or even before) hugely traumatic and mystifying; and young women have no clue at all their macho, homoscocially-oriented men like dick.

by Anonymousreply 26April 17, 2017 9:28 PM

Max Riemelt Makes me melt.

It was on Netflix, apparently they took it down, which is a shame as I enjoyed watching it periodically.

It was on Netflix, apparently no more, that is a shame, as it was nice to be able to rewatch it periodically.

by Anonymousreply 30April 17, 2017 10:11 PM

It's available to rent or buy on iTunes here in England - so it must be in the USA as well.

by Anonymousreply 31April 17, 2017 10:15 PM

Yup, on iTunes in the USA.

by Anonymousreply 32April 17, 2017 10:18 PM

You are right unfortunately r29, I hadn't noticed they removed it from Netflix. Pity.

by Anonymousreply 33April 18, 2017 12:50 AM

It's on Amazon. FYI, Koffler's kid has permanent brain injury from meningitis, occurred in 2015.

by Anonymousreply 34April 18, 2017 12:57 AM

What happened in the movie could still very well happen practically everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 35April 18, 2017 1:13 AM

[quote]Europeans seem much more able to write compelling gay movies, for whatever reason, they are always better than American gay movies.

Yeah so many of my favorite gay movies are non-Americans. Un Amour à taire, La Mala Educación, Yossi and Jager and Yossi, Hawaii, Contracorriente.

Sadly a lot of American gay films tend to seem like shit by comparison of what is being done abroad.

by Anonymousreply 36April 18, 2017 3:53 AM

[quote]Yossi and Jager and Yossi

There was another Israeli one I saw, can't remember the name, but it was also excellent. Peculiar how they can get it right, where the Americans fail every time.

The few British gay films I've seen have been awful as well. The people are always so trashy. Lower class. Odd accents and such.

by Anonymousreply 37April 18, 2017 6:08 AM

Other recent great Israeli gay-themed flix: THE BUBBLE, WALK ON WATER, OUT IN THE DARK.

by Anonymousreply 38April 18, 2017 6:37 PM

[quote]The few British gay films I've seen have been awful as well

Well the Brits did give us "Weekend".

by Anonymousreply 39April 18, 2017 6:47 PM

You can still get Free Fall on disk from Netflix. And the three films mentioned just above by R38.

by Anonymousreply 40April 18, 2017 7:09 PM

[quote] on disk from Netflix.

What year is it?

by Anonymousreply 41April 18, 2017 7:11 PM

I keep the Netflix DVD account for two reasons -- no buffering issues and a lot of independent and/or European films like Free Fall are not consistently available on Netflix streaming.

by Anonymousreply 42April 18, 2017 7:15 PM

Walk on Water is excellent, lots of positive gay themes and a few twists and turns to keep it interesting

by Anonymousreply 43April 18, 2017 11:25 PM

[quote]The few British gay films I've seen have been awful as well

[quote]Well the Brits did give us "Weekend".

That was one of the films I was thinking of. Hated it.

The Israeli film I was thinking of that I highly recommend is "Eyes Wide Open"

I'm amazed that a Gay Israeli Arthouse film's trailer has over 307,000 views. OMG!

If you hated "Weekend", we clearly do not see eye-to-eye when it comes to movies.

by Anonymousreply 46April 18, 2017 11:42 PM

Not necessarily.

Next you tell you hate Maurice.

by Anonymousreply 48April 18, 2017 11:51 PM

[quote]Walk on Water is excellent, lots of positive gay themes and a few twists and turns to keep it interesting

Agreed. It isn't specifically a "gay movie" per se, but obviously still pretty gay and I quite enjoyed it.

by Anonymousreply 49April 18, 2017 11:54 PM

Weekend has no plot.

And the fake cum sitting on his dad bod...Bye!!!

by Anonymousreply 50April 18, 2017 11:54 PM

[quote]And the fake cum sitting on his dad bod...Bye!!!

Oh, God - I turned it off before we got there, thank goodness.

by Anonymousreply 51April 19, 2017 12:08 AM

The first film was underwhelming. This film could have been done in the early 90's and it would have had more of an impact.

by Anonymousreply 52April 19, 2017 12:18 AM

Looked online-- it seems to attract a large frau fansbase-- the same fraus who diddle themselves over the sex scenes in Queer As Folk.

by Anonymousreply 53April 19, 2017 11:26 AM

fansbase = fanbase

by Anonymousreply 54April 19, 2017 11:26 AM

Love this movie!

PS - The full film is available on YouTube or Vimeo. You just need to do an extensive search.

R36, most movies made abroad are usually superior to US films, gay or otherwise. Anyone seen Le Rafle from France? A near masterpiece in all ways, which won all sorts of awards in Europe, but hardly anyone in US has heard of it.

by Anonymousreply 56April 19, 2017 2:26 PM

Just watched the original, wow.

It's on Hulu

by Anonymousreply 57January 29, 2018 9:24 PM

The plot of Free Fall is very simple. But Hanno Koffler and Max Riemelt are gorgeous to look at and break your heart with their acting.

by Anonymousreply 58January 29, 2018 9:30 PM

This is their current plan

[quote]Our InDemand campaign on Indiegogo ends today. With your help, we were able to fund the script for Free Fall 2. Now, in January 2018, more than 50% of the script is written. This year is going to be challenging, but also very exciting. In 2018 we are going to focus on contacting sponsors and investors in order to raise more funds for Free Fall 2. Another crowdfunding campaign is planned to be launching in August 2018. In 2019 we will start filming.

Looking forward to watching the original one again

by Anonymousreply 60January 30, 2018 4:34 AM

First one was good. Max re-melted me. I hope they make the second one before his lips thin out too much.

by Anonymousreply 61January 30, 2018 9:53 PM

When you use your dong as a babymaker, I call you straight.

by Anonymousreply 62January 31, 2018 12:48 AM

Its been a while since I saw it, which was the top and which was the bottom?

by Anonymousreply 63January 31, 2018 2:09 AM

I loved it. Max Riemelt is so hot.

by Anonymousreply 64January 31, 2018 3:01 AM

Any news of the sequel?
