It seems to me that God's the one actually actively hurting people on a whim while Satan punishes those who actively harm others. Satan never killed anyone.
What did Satan actually do that was so fucking terrible?

Uhhhh Jesus said that Satan was a murderer from the begining and the father of lies..... but now he has his Fox TV series

You might want to read the Bible yourself some day. Reading articles about what people think is in the Bible is like having MSNBC as your main source of news.

Christopher Hitchens is just rotting in the ground, R2, and so will all of us after we die. But even by the standards of the Bible, God is a murderer. He commits genocide as if it was nothing.

God is the definition of Good. If he kills, we call it justice.

Well, he is the Big Bad Boss of the Illumnati. He even outranks Empress Bey!

Wasn't Satan's sin ultimately "Pride"? Also, he's the master of lies and deception. Reminds me of someone in the news lately.

Personally I always liked this myth. From Bill Moyers incredible interviews with Joseph Campbell - which ironically cemented my atheism.
[quote] BILL MOYERS: And yet, one of my favorite stories of mythology is out of Persia, where there is the idea that Lucifer was condemned to hell because he loved God so much.
JOSEPH CAMPBELL: Yeah, and that’s a basic Muslim idea, about Iblis, that’s the Muslim name for Satan, being God’s greatest lover. Why was Satan thrown into hell? Well, the standard Story is that when God created the angels, he told them to bow to none but himself. Then he created man, whom he regarded as a higher form than the angels, and he asked the angels then to serve man. And Satan would not bow to man. Now, this is interpreted in the Christian tradition, as I recall from my boyhood instruction, as being the egotism of Satan, he would not bow to man. But in this view, he could not bow to man, because of his love for God, he could bow only to God. And then God says, “Get out of my sight.” Now, the worst of the pains of hell insofar as hell has been described is the absence of the beloved, which is God. So how does Iblis sustain the situation in hell? By the memory of the echo of God’s voice when God said, “Go to hell.” And I think that’s a great sign of love, do you agree?
BILL MOYERS: Well, it’s certainly true in life that the greatest hell one can know is to be separated from the one you love.
JOSEPH CAMPBELL: Yeah.
BILL MOYERS: That’s why I’ve liked the Persian myth for so long. Satan as God’s lover.
JOSEPH CAMPBELL: Yeah. And he is separated from God, and that’s the real pain of Satan.

So God is the abusive narcissistic single parent, Lucifer the child and man the oblivious new boyfriend.

Religion perverts the mind. What did Satan do? Whatever his creator could come up with to make Satan the bad guy in this ancient tale in order to trap his captive audience (what other entertainment did they have back then anyway?) in a frightful state of mind.

Satan / Lucifer is as real as any fictional character on TV.
Depending which reboot / version you like best you get different versions of Satan's / Lucifer's origin story.

The Bible is fiction. There is more truth in graphic novels than in the Bible, because graphic novels had fewer revisions (as in reboots) than the Bible.

There is no satan. It’s a construct of man to terrify the simpleminded into believing what they are told to believe.

He shared knowledge with humans. We're supposed to be ignorant and obedient to God for, uh, some reason. You're supposed to be afraid of God because he's powerful and he can smite you; he usually comes across as kind of a megalomaniacal dick.

R7 Kevin Smith swiped that to create his character Bartleby (Ben Affleck) in DOGMA.
One speech Bartleby gives to fellow angel Loki (Matt Damon) in a parking lot runs down these feelings. Bartleby is angered by human arrogance, that they refuse to acknowledge God’s existence much less adore him like Bartleby and the angels do.

I’m not sure why “he’s not real” is the most common response in this thread, given that Satan’s reality or lack thereof is irrelevant to OP’s question.
OP: why are we supposed to think that Magneto is evil, when he’s just trying to protect his species from a majority that’s actively trying to destroy them?
Very Intelligent DLers: haha Magneto isn’t real he’s a fictional character haha I am Very Smart.
