The Pointer Sisters

Today I'm listening to a Pointer Sister's playlist. Some of the tracks include: "Goldmine", "He Turned Me Out", "Yes We Can", "Automatic", "Dare Me", "Neutron Dance", etc. I loved Ruth, June & Anita Pointer back in the day.

Such amazing vocalists with unique sounds and styles that blended together perfectly. "I'm So Excited" is still one of the best dance tunes ever!

by Anonymousreply 2March 18, 2017 7:46 PM

I loved those bitches music. I even liked Bonnie.

Very talented and underrated. RIP June Pointer.

by Anonymousreply 5March 19, 2017 12:50 AM

I liked that song with the chimes Bonnie released after leaving the group.

by Anonymousreply 6March 19, 2017 1:31 AM

I'll sing for you for a line of coke OP

Cause when we kiss, FIRE!

by Anonymousreply 8March 19, 2017 1:37 AM

Ha! Bonnie Pointer performed at our local gay bar one night and she was FUCKED UP! She preferred to let the 20 minute version of Heaven must have sent you (on cassette!) Run on and on while her dancers looked confused!

by Anonymousreply 9March 19, 2017 1:48 AM

Poor Bonnie. She bailed just as her sisters caught fire. Only one minor hit with her sibs (Yes We Can Can), then she left and boom...He's So Shy, Slow Hand, Fire, I'm So Excited, and of course...Jump.

by Anonymousreply 10March 19, 2017 1:58 AM

Their music has a unique exuberance that will make you feel good even when you feel rotten.

"I'm So Excited"

"Happiness"

"Save This Night For Love"

"Bring Your Sweet Stuff Home"

by Anonymousreply 11March 19, 2017 3:20 AM

Bonnie has finally gotten clean.

If You Wanna Get Back Your Lady was a great song and should've been a big hit for them.

by Anonymousreply 15March 19, 2017 3:56 AM

The Pointer Sisters did one of the most fun shows I've ever seen, at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas when Siegfried and Roy were on break from their usual residency there. I've loved them ever since.

by Anonymousreply 16March 19, 2017 4:12 AM

OK, the Blues Brothers show at the old Universal Amphitheater was also pretty amazing.

by Anonymousreply 17March 19, 2017 4:18 AM

I love "Goldmine" from 1986.

I love the Pointer Sisters. My (dead) friend used to say "They're so trashy". Pissed me off...

by Anonymousreply 20March 19, 2017 1:21 PM

Totally fun music.

by Anonymousreply 21March 19, 2017 1:22 PM

[quote] I loved Ruth, June & Anita Pointer back in the day.

FUCK YOU

by Anonymousreply 22March 19, 2017 2:03 PM

Bonnie was so shitty. I'm glad she left and went solo early in their career.

by Anonymousreply 23March 19, 2017 2:14 PM

Those bitches had great hair.

by Anonymousreply 24March 19, 2017 3:33 PM

I liked June (R.I.P.) Pointer's 2nd solo album "June Pointer" in 1989. Anita's solo album "Love For What It Is" was ok in 1987. I really liked the single "Overnight Success" from the album.

by Anonymousreply 25March 19, 2017 3:57 PM

June was a lesbian. Porn star Nikki Sinn said she lost her virginity to her when she was in her teens.

by Anonymousreply 26March 19, 2017 4:10 PM

r23

FUCK YOU TOO

by Anonymousreply 27March 19, 2017 4:10 PM

Does June show the beaver at 0.55?

by Anonymousreply 28March 19, 2017 4:12 PM

r26, that's the porn "June Pointer" not from the musical group. Stupid ass.

by Anonymousreply 29March 19, 2017 4:22 PM

[quote]Nikki Sinn said she lost her virginity to her

Don't be silly. A girl can't lose her virginity to another girl.

by Anonymousreply 30March 19, 2017 4:24 PM

R29 There has never been a porn star called June Pointer or a porn parody about them. It's been discussed on here before that June was a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 31March 19, 2017 4:35 PM

June looked high as a kite in this video.

by Anonymousreply 34March 19, 2017 8:19 PM

True story--the first time I ever put a dick in my mouth, "Slowhand" was playing. I was 14, but the song had been out a few years. My best friend and I had been experimenting for a year or so, but that was the first time we tried oral. Good times!

by Anonymousreply 35March 19, 2017 9:05 PM

True story, I became gay because of the POINTERS

by Anonymousreply 36March 20, 2017 12:21 AM

It was rumored early on that they were actually the Pointer Brothers.

by Anonymousreply 37March 20, 2017 2:47 AM

I love their song "Twist My Arm" from CONTACT.

by Anonymousreply 38March 20, 2017 11:29 AM

I love all of the fourties stuff they did

by Anonymousreply 39March 20, 2017 12:00 PM

I like the 40s shit they did but they mostly did the 40s look with contemporary r&b. I know their 2nd album had several 40s style songs on it though

by Anonymousreply 40March 20, 2017 12:03 PM

I l ike the song "Hot Together".

by Anonymousreply 41March 20, 2017 12:04 PM

R40, I loved it. "Salt peanuts", "little pony". So sexy

by Anonymousreply 42March 20, 2017 12:06 PM

"Salt Peanuts" and "little pony" were NOT sexy. They were stupid.

by Anonymousreply 43March 20, 2017 12:07 PM

totally sexy big band jazz, you're an idiot

by Anonymousreply 44March 20, 2017 12:48 PM

it is not sexy to yell "salt peanuts" over and over so fast it sounds like you're saying "salt penis".

by Anonymousreply 45March 20, 2017 2:04 PM

I was surprised to hear from Ruth that they were all such coke-heads back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 46March 20, 2017 2:36 PM

I'm so EXCITED

by Anonymousreply 47March 20, 2017 2:59 PM

I remember when June was getting her pussy banged out by OJ bank in the day.

by Anonymousreply 48March 20, 2017 3:17 PM

*back in the day

by Anonymousreply 49March 20, 2017 3:23 PM

she was hotter than hot

by Anonymousreply 50March 20, 2017 3:24 PM

I remember being so confused when I first heard Automatic since it sounded like a dude on vocals. I was about ten at the time.

by Anonymousreply 51March 20, 2017 5:05 PM

me too r51. i thought it was a man. not some hot looking black bitch!

by Anonymousreply 52March 20, 2017 5:49 PM

What a pair of tards

by Anonymousreply 53March 20, 2017 5:51 PM

I love their music.

I mostly knew them from "He's So Shy" and their 80s stuff, but I also fell in love with their older stuff when I heard it, especially "Fairytale," which is amazing, and "Jada." Love their older stuff now.

But this one still gets me, hits my heart. It just brings back those childhood sunny summer days, that feeling of positivity and beauty and hope. It's lovely, and it brings a happy tear to my eye when I hear it.

by Anonymousreply 55March 20, 2017 8:14 PM

The Pointers admitted the "Automatic" vocals were styled after Stevie Wonder.

by Anonymousreply 56March 20, 2017 8:16 PM

r56, i thought the music was styled after Prince.

by Anonymousreply 57March 20, 2017 8:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 60March 20, 2017 10:05 PM

I like their song "sex, love or money"!

by Anonymousreply 61March 20, 2017 10:08 PM

Their manager was so loving for mixing a new egg yolk into each bowl of chow to keep those hairdos sleek and shiny!

by Anonymousreply 62March 20, 2017 10:10 PM

For years, I couldn't stand to hear "Jump" since it was SO overplayed, but I was at a party recently and it came on..I enjoyed hearing it.

by Anonymousreply 63March 20, 2017 10:26 PM

They need a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

by Anonymousreply 64March 20, 2017 10:28 PM

I love the Pointer Sisters. Although this was the beginning of the end, I even enjoyed their flop New Jack Swing album "Serious Slammin'".

duet?

Wasn't there a video where you could see one of their snatches as she got out of a bathtub?

by Anonymousreply 71March 21, 2017 2:28 PM

You can see them sing in a video

by Anonymousreply 72March 22, 2017 2:58 PM

Dayum they had some jacked-up teeth early in life. Stereotypical eating corn on the cob through a knothole.

by Anonymousreply 73March 22, 2017 3:06 PM

Take the chain off your brain

by Anonymousreply 74March 22, 2017 3:12 PM

R71 yes it's here at around :55.

It's a bit blurry but you can definitely spot some snatcheroonie as she stands up in the tub.

by Anonymousreply 79March 22, 2017 8:22 PM

but it's clean

by Anonymousreply 80March 22, 2017 11:52 PM

[quote] For years, I couldn't stand to hear "Jump" since it was SO overplayed, but I was at a party recently and it came on..I enjoyed hearing it.

It was overplayed because Procter & Gamble used it to sell Bounce fabric softener and bought ad space for it practically every show on TV watched by fraus, including but not limited to the soaps. They also used The Four Tops' "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch" to sell Duncan Hines brownies.

by Anonymousreply 81March 23, 2017 12:37 AM

A couple of them posed nude together for Penthouse or some other men's magazine. I never saw such sad looking tits, especially on the buck-toothed one.

by Anonymousreply 82March 23, 2017 12:59 AM

Love them! Ruth Pointer wrote an excellent autobiography a year or so ago. Among other marvelous things, Ruth is a sincere and true ally to the LGB(T) community.

by Anonymousreply 83March 23, 2017 2:39 AM

"Love would come and go. Mama didn't know how many cocks I sucked."

by Anonymousreply 84March 23, 2017 1:26 PM

Ruth, with a name like that, you gotta love her

by Anonymousreply 85March 23, 2017 1:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 88March 25, 2017 11:55 PM

Did June Pointer's death killed the Pointer Sisters' career?

by Anonymousreply 89March 26, 2017 1:44 PM

yeah, r89. It was over years before. June died in 2004 or 2006. Their last album was in 1993.

by Anonymousreply 90March 26, 2017 1:46 PM

Is Ruth or June the one on the right in the animal print?

by Anonymousreply 94March 27, 2017 3:09 PM

so does "Neutron Dance"

by Anonymousreply 95March 27, 2017 3:19 PM

I hated Neutron Dance. too Gospel sounding for my tastes.

by Anonymousreply 96April 2, 2017 12:53 PM

Still sounding great with a less than great sound system.
