Why does Ryan Gosling get no love on the DL?

He does always have a smug facial expression, but from everything I've seen he's the opposite of smug in real life. He is extremely gracious and polite to fans (he showed that in the awful "tourist bus" sequence on the Oscars).

As an actor, he does the same thing too much: he always plays variants on the same emotionally wounded type. I think he's very good playing that role but I'd like to see him play something very different for once, because he's getting boring in that part. It's clear also he likes playing that kind of part too much.

I work at the Toronto International Film Festival and one of my co-workers told me that Ryan showed up to a screening of one of his films. Not the premiere but an 8:30 a.m. screening on a Sunday to thank fans for attending the film. You just don't see many stars do that. I thought that was classy.

I recently watched the beginning of The Believer, a movie he did when he was 20. He played a Jewish neo-Nazi, and judging by the first 20 minutes he showed nuance in his acting I've rarely seen from him. I haven't seen his every film but it seems he's holding back and is not taking that many risks in his acting. He seems like a man who knows he's handsome Hollywood star and has stopped evolving as an actor a long time ago. Way before he became good enough to really be able to do that. Nowadays he's like a sloth, a slow and gentle creature, whose only passion is to have a steady and trouble-free life.

He actually reminds me of certain B list stars from the studio system. He does his work well enough since he's talented enough but his popularity is mostly based on his looks.

Obviously you never know what he's really like behind his Hollywood facade. We occasionally do get some vague gay rumors about him, and I doubt anyone would really be surprised to find out he really is bi or gay. He really does seem to be a nice guy, though.
