Salute to Hollywood mega-producer Scott Rudin

He could've paired up with a hot Latin boy toy like all the others, but instead he went for brains and personality. Barlow, his partner on the left, is a British scientist,

Are Rudin and Harvey Weinstein related? They're both powerful, ugly, assholes.

by Anonymousreply 1February 20, 2017 11:46 PM

Yes a big salute to this major asshole. If he were in any other profession, he would've been put in jail a long time ago.

by Anonymousreply 2February 20, 2017 11:51 PM

Why, R2?

by Anonymousreply 3February 21, 2017 12:08 AM

Pity he has no more power in Hollywood and no longer makes movies. Now the theater is stuck with him.

by Anonymousreply 4February 21, 2017 12:43 AM

A British scientist? He was a theatrical publicist in NY.

by Anonymousreply 5February 21, 2017 12:53 AM

Rudin's partner is not British nor a scientist.

R3 He's physically abusive towards employees. He's thrown things like microwaves and computer monitors at people. Luckily for them, most of his employees don't last longer than a day. Every time someone thanks him in one of their acceptance speeches, I have to wonder if they saw how black and blue everyone around Rudin was. It's really staggering how much people are willing to put up with to make it in Hollywood.

He also is rumored to be a self-hating homo and won't support other gay men. Despite being one of the biggest producers in Hollywood, he hasn't produced a project about gay men in ages. I'm not the biggest fan of Ryan Murphy, but he at least creates projects with and about gay men.

by Anonymousreply 8February 21, 2017 3:42 AM

Every Harvard graduate who endured six months or more in his office ended up with a good career in Hollywood. Rudin's name was a door-opener until he more or less switched to theater. Rudin may be an asshole, but he is quite brilliant, and VERY loyal to film people whose work he likes (and I'm not only talking actors).

by Anonymousreply 9February 21, 2017 3:57 AM

R6, per link: "John Barlow is best known as a partner of renowned American film producer Scott Rudin.... The only information about him is that his nationality is British and he is a scientist by profession."

Scott Rudin is a piece of shit who like Amy Pascal should have been fired.

by Anonymousreply 11February 22, 2017 3:15 AM

Fired from where, R11? He's his own boss.

by Anonymousreply 12February 22, 2017 3:26 AM

"Fired" as in contract ended. A studio can fire a producer. It can cease to do business with him. THAT'S how you fire someone like him..

He's as loyal as he feels like it when it suits him.

by Anonymousreply 13February 22, 2017 3:51 AM

"Yes a big salute to this major asshole."

I don't know anything about the man other than the fact that his name appears on some of the more quality "product" out there - that being said, he deserves an award just for these remarks from the Angelina Jolie-NY Post article:

"Jolie, Rudin wrote, was a “minimally talented spoiled brat” and “a camp event” less interested in high-end filmmaking than taking “a $180m ego bath.”

When Jolie said she was still “studying a few more films” to decide whether the great Ridley Scott was a suitable director, Rudin wrote: “Beyond belief. She’s studying films. Kill me please. Immediately.” He also wrote that he couldn’t deal with her “insanity and rampaging spoiled ego” and eventually walked away from the project."

by Anonymousreply 14February 22, 2017 4:35 AM

R13, he is a sought after producer; he's won't get fired by a studio, because he is good with talent and he buys rights for good material. Hollywood is not built on people being nice to each other.

by Anonymousreply 15February 22, 2017 5:08 AM
He could've paired up with a hot Latin boy toy like all the others, but instead he went for brains and personality

You really think he isn't fucking Hollywood hopefuls and Broadway chorus boys desperate for a part?

by Anonymousreply 16February 22, 2017 5:11 AM

uuuh....welcome to LA, r13. That's show business-any business, really.

Rudin is an old school producer-he can be a ruthless businessman but he also has personal taste. All the educated douchebags with their MBAs, big data or film degrees cannot replace old school execs with quick minds, deep cynicism and a good eye. They're rare but still valued. I don't agree with the way he treats subordinates, but you can't teach or manufacture the above. That's why he gets a pass-it's not just that he makes money, it's how he does it. Creative industries always tend to give bad behaviour a pass.

He, like Michael Bay, is also a whipping boy for the industry. There are many, many people who are much worse than those two, but they take the fall for the industry because they are easy to genuinely dislike. Making them industry villains serves both sides.
You really think he isn't fucking Hollywood hopefuls and Broadway chorus boys desperate for a part?

If he was, there would be dozens of pics and gossip items about him doing so on Datalounge. So I doubt he is.

by Anonymousreply 18February 22, 2017 11:40 AM

Very excellent producer, but a total asshole. Wish he was more supportive of gay men, publicly.

by Anonymousreply 19February 22, 2017 12:31 PM

r19 if he's that much of an asshole, maybe that's not a good idea.

by Anonymousreply 20February 22, 2017 1:58 PM

I think he is just hiring hookers and porn stars - not Hollywood hopefuls and Broadway chorus boys (not that there is no overlap, but you know what I mean)

by Anonymousreply 21February 22, 2017 2:24 PM

r21 I think all the 1%, especially gays, have a pool of high end escorts they use. Porn stars are all hot messes and Rudin seems smart enough not to fuck where he eats, so to speak. The escorts would meet any sexual needs/fetishes, and the high end ones are usually educated and look like they could pass for 1% themselves.

by Anonymousreply 22February 22, 2017 2:36 PM

Are we sure he's not a datalounger, [R14]? Those Jolie comments sound like they could have been made on some threads here! I can at least imagine him haunting the endless DL Broadway Theater threads....

And yes, he's evil; he left his assistant on the side off the freeway during rush hour traffic in L.A. as a way of firing him, told his own mother to "fuck off" and stop calling him, and threw heavy objects (including phones) at full speed--with intent to harm--towards innumerable interns (and that was just 1/3 of the famous expose article I read about him....)

by Anonymousreply 23February 22, 2017 2:45 PM

*of the freeway (not off)

by Anonymousreply 24February 22, 2017 2:47 PM

Oh hell yes I think Rudin has posted here! The fact that he (beautifully and accurately) shit all over Angellina Jolie in an email - and OK, I know this is a big leap on my part - but to me means he is not shy about putting his own thoughts in his own name, so why wouldn't he do it anonymously?

by Anonymousreply 25February 22, 2017 3:25 PM

Why can't people in Hollywood be nice to each other?

by Anonymousreply 26August 21, 2020 7:38 PM
Very excellent producer, but a total asshole. Wish he was more supportive of gay men, publicly.

He hired Paul Rudnick to write [italic]The Addams Family[/italic] movies. Doesn't that count?

by Anonymousreply 27August 21, 2020 7:41 PM

Didn’t Jodie Foster ban him from one of her sets?

by Anonymousreply 28August 21, 2020 7:53 PM

She banned him but defended Mel Gibson? Not a good look for her.

by Anonymousreply 29August 21, 2020 7:56 PM
Why can't people in Hollywood be nice to each other?

A lot of people in our business are nice to each other, just like in any other field, you're just focusing on the assholes. Mike Schur is known for being one of the kindest showrunners working today, just to name you one.

by Anonymousreply 30August 21, 2020 8:18 PM

I worked with John Barlow back in the day and we were friends. He was a Broadway press agent before he met Scott. We worked on a few shows together. I hadn't heard much about him for many years as I assumed he stopped working because Rudin had so much money. I thought he was from MA. His family had a house near Hyannis/Dennis/Yarmouth. Maybe by chance he was born in the UK - it never came up - but he definitely didn't have an accent. And we lived and breathed theater. I can't imagine he worked in any scientific field.

by Anonymousreply 31August 21, 2020 9:29 PM

This type of asshole is unique to Hollywood. The insane behavior that is allowed in that industry is mind boggling. Truly desperate people willing to put up with it - to live some kind of “dream” that from all appearances is a nightmare.
