I hate that Shriner's Hospital for Children tv add...

I'm such an evil person, aren't I???

PS: The kid who does the add really gets on my nerves.

by Anonymousreply 157January 1, 2020 11:23 PM

LOL I just told that commercial to fuck off while I was typing and it was nattering on.

by Anonymousreply 1February 15, 2017 10:59 PM

Maybe you prefer his subtraction?

by Anonymousreply 2February 15, 2017 10:59 PM

Also hate the high pitched frequency in the voices of children with fucked up adenoids, even out of wheelchairs.

by Anonymousreply 3February 15, 2017 11:02 PM

I'd be glad if they ALL died!

by Anonymousreply 4February 16, 2017 2:03 AM

OP=Marlo Thomas, ragging on the competition

by Anonymousreply 5February 16, 2017 2:22 AM

The other kids are okay, but I hate Adenoids Boy

by Anonymousreply 6February 16, 2017 10:35 PM

Everyone in this thread deserves to die in a greasefire.

by Anonymousreply 7February 16, 2017 11:06 PM

THANK YOU FOR GIVING!!!

by Anonymousreply 8February 16, 2017 11:09 PM

IS that the little fucker, R6, that talks about the "adorable blanket"? the Dwarf looking kid whose ears are down by his chin>?

by Anonymousreply 9February 16, 2017 11:10 PM

I thought pre-natal testing was supposed to take care of defective children.

by Anonymousreply 10February 16, 2017 11:11 PM

Pull up a Hellfire chair next to me, OP.

It's not just the adenoids; it's the "Oh, ain't I pwecious!" pronunciation where all the Ls and Rs are pronounced as Ws: "Swinah's Hospitaw foah Cwippawed Chiwdwen."

At least the ASPCA dogs and cats just stare at the camera all pitiful, and don't speak.

by Anonymousreply 11February 16, 2017 11:16 PM

[quote]"Swinah's Hospitaw foah Cwippawed Chiwdwen."

Mom's eyes narrowed -- "That kid is a lot older than that."

by Anonymousreply 12February 17, 2017 12:46 AM

The commercials are irritating but the hospitals are wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 13February 17, 2017 12:49 AM

[quote]Everyone in this thread deserves to die in a grease fire.

Unlikely. Shriners has a great burn unit.

by Anonymousreply 14February 17, 2017 12:51 AM

I think the kid in the wheelchair doing all the talking is really a 40 year old midget.

by Anonymousreply 15February 17, 2017 1:15 AM

Can somene link to the commercial?

by Anonymousreply 16February 17, 2017 2:23 AM

The commercial.

The young boy who writes with this feet smiles big for the camera like there's hope in the world. I watch him and try to remember what I'm complaining about in my life.

by Anonymousreply 18February 17, 2017 2:49 AM

I thought crippled children didn't like to be poster kids who did ads. Remember Jerry Lewis and MD? Those kids grew up to be bitter.

by Anonymousreply 19February 17, 2017 2:56 AM

It's an adowabuh blanket!

by Anonymousreply 20February 17, 2017 3:00 AM

I guess I'm headed to Hell too because this commercial gets on my last nerve. Kids, especially boys, do not use the word 'adorable'.

by Anonymousreply 21February 17, 2017 3:50 AM

Well you made it through, R10, so I guess not.

by Anonymousreply 22February 17, 2017 6:22 AM

I feel really bad since I just saw that commercial. I made an unkind remark earlier and I'm hoping God can forgive me.

Why don't we all get together, send in a $1 for a DL contribution?

by Anonymousreply 23February 17, 2017 6:27 AM

R17 The kid who was born without arms has a mother with the same condition, Holt-Oram syndrome. She basically had a fifty-fifty chance of having a child with the same condition. How fucked up and selfish do you have to be to do that to a child? What father agrees to go along with this? Were there really no children in the world to be adopted? Sure, the kid can write with his feet now, but what about when he gets older, much older? Will he really be so flexible and capable in his 50s? 60s? This commercial makes me want to beat my head against a wall!

by Anonymousreply 24February 17, 2017 7:33 AM

FFS R24, it's not like he was born without a brain. The only downside I can foresee is he can't flip you off.

by Anonymousreply 25February 17, 2017 7:43 AM

That kid caused Hillary to lose the election!

by Anonymousreply 26February 17, 2017 8:29 AM

I thought the same thing r24. Very selfish.

by Anonymousreply 27February 17, 2017 8:41 AM

I am shocked by this thread. How heartless are you people? Shame on you!

by Anonymousreply 28February 17, 2017 9:08 AM

As noted, the Shriner's Hospital is wonderful, but these ads join the dogpile of charities who need money and are willing to pull heartstrings to get it.

A few years ago, they either closed or talked about closing the burn hospital in SF because they couldn't get funds. These ads show this desperation.

by Anonymousreply 29February 17, 2017 3:20 PM

R29, do a bit of research before you comment on the desperation of these slickly produced ads. St Jude's runs ads 24/7 and they do so because they want MORE of your hard earned coin. They take in 100M a year in donations and have assets totaling 5B. They pay their CEO 1.5M in salary, his wife is on the payroll for 500K and they have a Syrian (yes, Syria) partner whose CEO is paid 650k a year. Your local burn hospital sounds like it was a true charitable institution but many are moneymaking schemes who don't have the charity's best interest at heart.

by Anonymousreply 30February 17, 2017 3:33 PM

R24, I think it may be a St. Jude's commercial, but it is a woman with a condition where she may have never walked, and was in tons of pain, but thanks to the hospital... And thanks to the hospital, her two kids can also walk! So fucking selfish.

by Anonymousreply 31February 17, 2017 4:29 PM

I am not without a heart, but I hate these mawkish, manipulative commercials with annoying children. I prefer to give my $ to animals. Like someone said above, at least the poor dogs and cats just stare at you while Sarah McLaughlin hoots in the background.

by Anonymousreply 32February 17, 2017 4:31 PM

r24 Agree. Bree Walker did the same thing. yeah she was hot and got lucky getting a good paying gig and marrying well but her kids aren't so fortunate and now they have those same hands. And Bree has gone off the fucking rails now so maybe she was not that happy either.

by Anonymousreply 33February 17, 2017 4:34 PM

I CAN CLIMB STAIRS!!!!

by Anonymousreply 34February 17, 2017 5:25 PM

What annoys me is how much money they must spend on all of this advertising.

by Anonymousreply 35February 17, 2017 6:02 PM

Op here. The little black kid who can climb stairs really makes me feel very sorry. He should have been the one doing the commercial. The ones who get on my last nerve are the ¨adorable blanket¨ one and the one whose mother was so fucking selfish as to condemn her kid to the same condition as hers. The rest are ok.

by Anonymousreply 36February 17, 2017 8:06 PM

The kid born with no arms clearly never missed what he never had. I would imagine if you ask him if he could go back in time and either be born as he is or never be born at all he'd chose to be born as he is.

by Anonymousreply 37February 17, 2017 9:00 PM

This is why they hate us.

by Anonymousreply 38February 18, 2017 12:14 AM

They say they accept all regardless of ability to pay, but they don't TREAT all unless they can get you on a program that will pay them.

by Anonymousreply 44February 18, 2017 11:47 PM

And their parents are having steaks tonight!

by Anonymousreply 45February 19, 2017 5:22 AM

R35 Wounded Warrior bugs me more because that is a complete rip off charity.

I like Alec. He's like looking at a tiny wheelchair-bound Ted Cruz.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 47February 19, 2017 7:47 AM

Here's the deal. ALL and I mean ALL of those slick commercials you see on the meso classic tv stations are produced by the same company for each charity for the same hideous amount, about 1/3 or more of what they rake in. Like an ambulance chasing lawyer. The Shriners are an elitist group of the Freemasons who are swimming in money. They do not need your help supporting their own high profile charitable institution. It's the least they can do. St. Jude's started in a truly altruistic way by Danny Thomas and with his show biz success he hit on all his contacts to donate, but now he's dead and so is old Hollywood so they've gone the professional money sucking charity commercial route. Any so called charity that has the money and profile to advertise repeatedly on TV is suspect. Give your money to local charities, they are not hard to check out on legitimacy. Google them.

by Anonymousreply 48February 19, 2017 8:26 AM

Will the Shriners give that poor no-armed kid a free vasectomy?

by Anonymousreply 49February 19, 2017 9:59 AM

I want that blanket, even if I needed to push his wheelchair into a ditch

by Anonymousreply 50February 20, 2017 6:07 PM

[quote]The kid who was born without arms has a mother with the same condition, Holt-Oram syndrome. She basically had a fifty-fifty chance of having a child with the same condition. How fucked up and selfish do you have to be to do that to a child?

A fruit of the Self-Esteem Movement.

by Anonymousreply 51February 22, 2017 5:35 AM

R44, R51 et al. A woman's right to choose goes both ways. It's none of your goddamn business if she decides to bring a child into the world whom you deem unfit or unacceptable because of your narrow life views on what determines quality of life. What a bunch of self-righteous assholes in this thread. Not just this thread as you judgemental douchebags are infesting this entire site.

by Anonymousreply 52February 22, 2017 6:04 AM

R52, you fucking tool of the highest order! Think in the long term Jackass!

by Anonymousreply 53February 22, 2017 7:18 AM

I give to several charities including the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. I use Charity Navigator as a starting point and research.

Having said that, I'm hoping that helps me avoid hell since some of you evil bitches made me laugh.

Though I will say I find the little girls with no arms putting make-up on, endearing. Sweet kids.

by Anonymousreply 54February 22, 2017 7:41 AM

by Anonymousreply 69November 18, 2017 10:07 PM

Honey? Is this your thread???

My partner HATES that kid. Every time the ad comes on he yells at the screen, "Someone PLEASE push that kid down the stairs!"

I suspect that how the kid ended up in a wheelchair to begin with.

by Anonymousreply 70November 18, 2017 11:02 PM

Well r70, looks like your boyfriend wont be getting this adowable bwanket with puppies on it then!

by Anonymousreply 71November 18, 2017 11:12 PM

A relative of mine was diagnosed with a progressive fatal disease after her first 2 kids had been born. But she chose to become pregnant again & have a third baby, knowing that there was a 30% chance of that child inheriting the disease. So far, he's OK but he's only 30 & may well develop the condition in future -- one of his older siblings does show signs of it. Their mother is now dying of the incurable disease.

I've always thought the mother was selfish to take this risk with her youngest child's life. I don't know how he feels about it -- none of my business, of course.

That "adowable" little boy in the wheelchair shilling the hospital is too comfortable in front of a camera. You'd expect him to stumble over his words or visibly read from the cue cards or SOMETHING, but the smooth son-of-a-bitch just rolls on screen easy as pie and pimps himself out for the camera like he's been hosting telethons for 55 years.

He has the natural charisma of a narcissist and a sociopath. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could roll him.

by Anonymousreply 79November 21, 2017 11:04 PM

Are you all watching "That '70s Show" reruns that you're seeing these commercials?

by Anonymousreply 80November 21, 2017 11:08 PM

I mute this cloying POS commercial every it airs. I cannot STAND the kid who say "Hugging my maaaaaaaaam" in his miniature vocal fry. Shaddup, kid.

by Anonymousreply 81November 21, 2017 11:48 PM

Shriners and Shriners hospitals rock but those commercials suck.

by Anonymousreply 82November 24, 2017 2:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 95August 25, 2018 8:37 PM

damn, i knew DL had a thread on this commercial.

Now they have a new ad, i saw it yesterday, Alec has now hit puberty and he is talking like the 50 year old man he really has been all along.

really sucks he can't say adowable bwanket as cute

by Anonymousreply 96September 9, 2018 6:03 PM

This lad's voice gets me on edge, but so did my nephew's at his age... has nothing to do with chairs or being crippled. However the one that did boil my blood was the one featuring an armless mother, and her armless son. WTF? Why did she choose to even have a child? If he was unplanned why didn't she choose a termination? All this disability and no financial wherewithal to take care of her son's special needs without a guilt-trip commercial from a charitable hospital? That one takes the cake in my book.

by Anonymousreply 97September 9, 2018 6:25 PM

I forgot all about this thread! Alec was in that Christine Chubbuck movie "Christine". I guess she used to go and put on puppet shows for hospitalized kids and he played one of them.

by Anonymousreply 98September 9, 2018 6:47 PM

Have you seen the new one with the blonde girl missing an arm? It runs during practically every commercial break around midnight on CoziTV. She has fingers coming out of her shoulder! I feel bad for these kids but I don't want to see that shit when I'm watching reruns of The Nanny at 12 AM. I'll donate money, just get that bitch off my screen!

And the replacement they brought in for Alec (now that his voice has changed and he's gone from cute to Quasimodo) cracks me up. Kaleb is totally the Eve Harrington of disabled children.

by Anonymousreply 99January 8, 2019 8:19 PM

I have an unshakable urge to pay Kaleb to show up at my grandmother's funeral with a lollipop and a dance routine.

by Anonymousreply 108January 10, 2019 1:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 112January 10, 2019 3:33 AM

The blanket boy always reminds me of A midget Buddy Hackett.

by Anonymousreply 113January 10, 2019 3:57 AM

Thank you very much, r105 and r111. Nothing makes my day more than knowing I made somebody laugh. It's silly, but it means a lot. I guess deep down inside, I'm as soft as Alec's adowabuh blanket.

Speaking of which, would anyone else have apprehensions about wrapping themselves up in that thing? If the colonists were able to infect blankets with smallpox then can you imagine the horrors that could be embedded in the fibers of Alec's Adowabuh Afghan? You fall asleep in it and wake up the next morning with cleft lip.

by Anonymousreply 114January 10, 2019 4:05 AM

Cleft lip is a whole different campaign of commercials, isn't it, R114?

by Anonymousreply 115January 10, 2019 4:12 AM

Cleft palates is one I would donate to.

As for Shriner's, maybe the key is to give directly to your local Shriner's hospital, by-passing the shills who produce the commercials.

by Anonymousreply 116January 10, 2019 2:36 PM

Listen up, gay bitches! You want gossip about this cesspool? Light me a ciggy and I'll spill the coffee, or whatever that quaint little expression is that you drag queens love to use so much.

You know the little boy in that insipid "This is the Place..." commercial who throws the basketball with one and a half arms? "This is the place... where I make the shot!" Watch how they cut to a closeup of the basketball dropping through the hoop. Margaret in the burn unit told me that he totally didn't make the shot. He threw the ball and then one of the able-bodied adults off-camera tossed it in the hoop for him. Fucking pathetic.

The not-so-little girl in that same commercial with one and a half arms who they show riding her bike, AKA Big Bicycle Bertha? The only way they ever got her on that damn bike was by waving around a box of Tagalongs off-camera. I haven't once seen her use those expensive new limbs to do anything but change the channel to the CW and toss cheese balls into her gaping maw.

And speaking of food... Asian bitch with one and a half arms who they show cooking in the very same commercial? Her food tastes like shit. She baked a cake one time and it tasted like shit. Made me eggs for breakfast one morning. Tasted like shit. Shot a bison one time and roasted that--shit. The nurses trick Big Bicycle Bertha into eating her casseroles when they want her to throw up.

Kaleb called me a bitch one time, so I chopped up his stuffed animals and left their remains on the ceiling fans. I'm the Dakota Fanning of this motherfucking hospital and nobody is allowed to speak to me that way. My hand may be attached to my shoulder, but it can still slap bitches left and right when need be.

by Anonymousreply 124January 23, 2019 9:20 PM

He SOUNDS like DL goddess Lucille Ball! So what's the freaking problem?!

by Anonymousreply 125January 23, 2019 9:30 PM

R117 no one is stupid enough to believe what those kids in that commercial do is real. It's a commercial, meant to do one thing. To tug at the heartstrings of people enough to get them to donate money. Donations is what that hospital survives on so I don't begrudge them for making the commercials. But I will admit I don't like the way they practically whore out all those kids in that commercial. I wonder if those kids are getting paid. They should be able to do perfectly adequate commercials without trotting out the saddest kids they can find and making it look like going to that hospital turns them into super kids.

And I still say that Alex is a 45 year old dwarf.

[quote]Unlikely. Shriners has a great burn unit.

I just snorted coffee over that comeback.

by Anonymousreply 129June 15, 2019 2:06 PM

OH OP, I hate ALL children in commercials not just the Shriner Kids. That brat that screams "My mother washes the dishes before she puts them in the dishwasher" The little girl in the insurance commercial telling her father that his rates won't go up because he has Allstate insurance.

No adult wants to hear a small child tell them how to spend their money or what product to buy. What are they thinking.

by Anonymousreply 130June 15, 2019 2:17 PM

HA. Every time those commercials come on my husband says “it’s that damn wheelchair kid again!”

And it is downright creepy now that he has a mustache.

by Anonymousreply 131June 15, 2019 2:43 PM

I thought they changed him for the tiny little blonde kid.

by Anonymousreply 132June 16, 2019 6:17 PM

R117 ... I appreciate your humor.

by Anonymousreply 133June 17, 2019 12:34 AM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 134November 27, 2019 1:02 AM

Oh thank the lord you posted this OP...I thought I was the only person on earth who hates that kid. Guess we are all gonna be in hell together! At least won't be stuck there with that kid...

by Anonymousreply 135November 27, 2019 1:10 AM

My elderly father starts laughing now whenever the commercial airs because I have complained so often how adorable blanket kid annoys me so.

Classical Art Meme for your enjoyment.

I know this thread is 2 1/2 years old, but since OP felt strong enough about the poor kid in the commercial to start this topic, then yes, you are a bad person.

by Anonymousreply 137November 27, 2019 1:23 AM

Op here, there needs to be a AHS: Shriner's Hospital season starring the evil midget, you just know he keeps a tight ship in there.

by Anonymousreply 138December 2, 2019 12:49 AM

Watch (at least) this segment from 7:11 on. I watched it on CBS Sunday Morning yesterday and was snot crying.

R30, the CEO may make $1 million-plus, St Jude saves lives. Laura Walker of New York Public Radio (WNYC & WQXR) made $800,000 until her recent retirement. What did she contribute to making the world a better place, while conning listeners into thinking donations were to pay for programming?

by Anonymousreply 140December 2, 2019 10:11 PM

R32 Don't give the ASPCA or Humane Society a dime. They have millions for TV commercials. Your local shelters really need the money.

by Anonymousreply 141December 2, 2019 10:15 PM

Alec is a PLAYA

I don't hate the kids and I think St. Judes does great work, I just find the way they whore them out, especially the ones who can deliver their lines more professionally sounding that others, off putting. I don't like to see children acting like adults. It's unnatural.

by Anonymousreply 143December 10, 2019 1:40 AM

I'm sorry, I meant Shriners (at least in this regard). I think both Shriners and St. Judes do great work.

by Anonymousreply 144December 10, 2019 1:41 AM

fix this now

by Anonymousreply 145December 10, 2019 1:50 AM

I give them some money from time to time....they do wonderful humanitarian work

by Anonymousreply 146December 10, 2019 3:02 PM

Is that Patton Oswalt's son with the "adorable" blanket

by Anonymousreply 147December 11, 2019 1:48 AM

When that kid turns to the camera and says, "We love you!", it makes me want to grab my phone and my credit card.

by Anonymousreply 148December 20, 2019 6:08 PM

"I Love You" r148. PM me your # as I do take CCs over the phone

by Anonymousreply 149December 20, 2019 8:14 PM

I prefer to give my money directly to crippled children at intersections hawking chiclets. At least they are working and contributing to society, unlike armless boy doodling with his toes.

by Anonymousreply 150December 20, 2019 8:17 PM

You're doing God's work R150.

by Anonymousreply 151December 20, 2019 8:23 PM

A few weeks ago "CBS Sunday Morning" did a feature on Alex. He's 17. Parents bought him a car. We saw him driving that has extensions on the pedals for his short feet.

by Anonymousreply 152December 20, 2019 9:49 PM

There are a lot of heartless assholes on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 153December 20, 2019 10:41 PM

Kaleb and Alec totally hate each other.

by Anonymousreply 154December 21, 2019 12:39 AM

r152 Was there footage of him driving (the car)?! Because that's ALL I want for Christmas!

by Anonymousreply 155December 21, 2019 4:29 AM

[quote]It's not just the adenoids; it's the "Oh, ain't I pwecious!" pronunciation where all the Ls and Rs are pronounced as Ws: "Swinah's Hospitaw foah Cwippawed Chiwdwen."

It's like a Baba Wawa convention.

by Anonymousreply 156January 1, 2020 11:21 PM

R147 That is an insult to Patton O
