Disney’s Maker Studios Cuts Ties With PewDiePie Over Anti-Semitic Videos
Disney’s Maker Studios has severed ties with YouTube star PewDiePie, TheWrap has learned.
PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, has been dropped by the company after videos of his featuring anti-semitic jokes were uncovered by the Wall Street Journal.
According to the report, Kjellberg posted a video on Jan. 11 featuring footage of two men laughing as they hold up a banner reading “Death to all Jews.” In addition, the paper found nine other instances of anti-semitic jokes on his channel.
Kjellberg has since defended the video as a joke that went too far after advertising on the video was pulled by YouTube’s parent company, Google.
“Although Felix has created a following by being provocative and irreverent, he clearly went too far in this case and the resulting videos are inappropriate,” Maker said in a statement provided to TheWrap.
Three of Kjellberg’s videos have since been removed, including the one posted on Jan. 11 and another posted on Jan. 22 that showed a man dressed up as Jesus Christ saying, “Hitler did absolutely nothing wrong.”
Kjellberg’s channel currently has more than 53 million subscribers. Last December, he topped Forbes’ list of the highest-paid YouTubers of 2016, having made more than $15 million.
This is not the first time the 27-year-old has come under fire for controversial jokes. He previously threatened to shut down his channel after reaching 50 million subscribers, in what turned out to be a publicity stunt.

I just read the WSJ article which prompted the Disney decision.
His followers are all under 20.
I saw a couple minutes of a few of his videos a few years ago when he started to get massive. They are about what you'd expect millions of 12-year-olds to be entertained by.

First of all HE didn't make that much money. It's his channel that made that much. He doesn't get it all.
Second the viewers are largely bots that watch and add revenue without actually doing anything for the advertiser.
Third, he makes far more money form personal appearances than his channel.

He's been thirsty for attention for a while -- about two months ago he was pretending like he was going to delete his YouTube channel and tried to turn the decision into some long, drawn-out drama.
He markets himself as being pro-women in gaming but he says sexist things and jokes about raping women to pander to his little boy base. He claimed he was evicted by a "homophobic" landlord, but he's not gay, just wanted the victim points. In fact, he's complained about two guys kissing in a show or a game.
The last time we had a thread on him, I looked him up and found several people who said that a lot of what he says in Swedish is racist.

I am baffled by R8s comment, actually. The prior 7 comments were all about who Pewds was and why he was famous from people who hadn't heard of him.
He's definitely getting thirstier--unlike a lot of other YouTubers/Viners (e.g. Cameron Dallas, who had been the topic of a popular DL thread) he has not been able to make the leap to longer-form, more mainstream entertainment.
Remember, these YT stars don't want to just be YT stars, they want to be movie stars and mainstream celebrities. But Pewd's audience is growing up, aging out and leaving him behind.
(And yeah, the anti-Semitic stuff was fucked up but seems to be more about him wanting to shock people by how out there he could be rather than an actual hatred of Jews.)

BTW, those saying he doesn't make much money from his videos are wrong. According to Forbes he earned $15M in the 12 months up until July 2016. That does include his book and his Youtube Red series. Walt Disney had always respected and admired his employer, a Jewish man named Charles Mintz. Disney responded to Mintz's treachery by creating Mickey Mouse. His "commonly acknowledged" anti-semitism was born out of this deeply embittering experience.

Total clickbait, faux outrage from SJW dimwits proving his point all along. What they failed to mention was his "SUBSCRIBE TO KEEMSTAR". Keemstar is a notorious racist Youtuber. That was an important part of the joke. While Disney doesn't have any obligation to work with him, this blatant disregard for facts is typical Millennial SJW bullshit. Pewdeepie has done genital jousting, aborted Nazi baby fetuses, crawled inside someone anus, did fake gay porn (which got him evicted), gave someone an abortion, etc, etc. It's satirical, it's nonsense. The two guys in the video faked not understanding what they were doing -- they do. They were paid $5 -- another point he was making. He got them their jobs back. The Verge had an interesting article comparing PewDiePie's tactics to Trump's.
"There is obviously a huge difference between the influence of a YouTube celebrity and the president of the United States. Only one has control over a nuclear arsenal. And PewDiePie is right when he says that his Nazi imagery and anti-Semitic content are tasteless jokes, not incitements to genocide. But there are big consequences to his actions these days. By playing coy with hate speech, PewDiePie is emboldening actual Nazis, who are celebrating. And by painting the press as liars, he is reinforcing the message of President Trump and his supporters."

PewDiePie is a self-absorbed manipulative guy. Many of his videos are about the evil people that try to take him down.
In his apology after the initial video with the joke, he said he wrote "Kill the Jews" because it was a funny meme. His attitude towards the subject gives the viewer mixed signals. I have no idea if he actually hates Jews, but he presents the subject in such way that it leaves it open. While he does that, he also presents himself as a victim and manipulates everything to suit that narrative.
Notice how he ties everything to the evil forces trying to take him down because he is a great Youtuber. He is not sincere about feeling bad over his joke that went too far. There was a reason why those Nazi groups thought he was being serious, and he avoids the subject by making it all about him as the victim of a media conspiracy
