Lemonade was brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 1May 19, 2017 5:45 PM

Scheduling my binge-watch this weekend!!

by Anonymousreply 2May 19, 2017 5:50 PM

Don't you know that taking a photo of a gay man unannounced is a hate crime?

by Anonymousreply 3May 19, 2017 6:07 PM

OMG, I forgot! Thanks for the reminder OP! I know what I'm doing for the next few days!

by Anonymousreply 4May 19, 2017 6:28 PM

Lemonading!

by Anonymousreply 5May 19, 2017 7:22 PM

I love Titus. Should I watch it at the library in his honor?

by Anonymousreply 6May 19, 2017 8:51 PM

Best theme song EVER!

by Anonymousreply 7May 19, 2017 9:36 PM

I thought the second season was weak, and I didn't make it through.

Is this season better?

by Anonymousreply 8May 19, 2017 9:43 PM

Hit and miss, R8. It doesn't top the first season, but the high points are pretty high.

by Anonymousreply 9May 19, 2017 11:13 PM

"Go Dicks!!"

by Anonymousreply 10May 19, 2017 11:16 PM

Gaylord Felcher!

by Anonymousreply 11May 20, 2017 3:10 PM

Kimmy: "I look like a hooker."

SJW: "They're called sex workers, and they're heroes."

by Anonymousreply 12May 20, 2017 6:06 PM

Is your overactive bladder acting like a gay black diva?

by Anonymousreply 13May 20, 2017 6:55 PM

They're not going to top Maya Rudolph as DL Icon Miss Warwick.

by Anonymousreply 14May 20, 2017 6:57 PM

Hello, Billy Magnussen!

by Anonymousreply 15May 20, 2017 8:40 PM

Scurvy makes an appearance.

by Anonymousreply 16May 20, 2017 8:56 PM

They've also introduced a new euphemism for gay sex: touch butts.

I would enjoy touching butts with Perry, Kimmy's new love interest played by Daveed Diggs.

by Anonymousreply 17May 20, 2017 11:05 PM

I love all the one liners but the story has become more and more... bits and pieces.

by Anonymousreply 18May 21, 2017 12:24 AM

Honestly it was just OK to me after awhile it felt tired except for Titus who is worth the price of admission.

by Anonymousreply 19May 21, 2017 12:27 AM

Has Miss Warwick issued a statement yet?

by Anonymousreply 20May 21, 2017 1:34 AM

I finished it today

TBH I think they could have gotten away with 10 episodes

13 felt stretched out, especially with the Lillian subplots

Josh Charles was a great addition and surprisingly sexy. Sorry he didn't last longer.

Billy Magnussen was bad.

by Anonymousreply 21May 21, 2017 11:07 PM

[quote]Billy Magnussen was bad.

He had to be hot. That was why he was there.

by Anonymousreply 22May 21, 2017 11:12 PM

I've only see the first couple episodes but Mikey going off to be with a guy who is more similar to himself felt realistic, Titus and Mikey never felt real to me.

[quote]Don't you know that taking a photo of a gay man unannounced is a hate crime?

That line killed me.

by Anonymousreply 23May 21, 2017 11:15 PM

The Linda subplot was straight out of DataLounge. I loved it.

by Anonymousreply 24May 22, 2017 2:25 AM

I was pissed that they broke up Mikey and Titus. Why oh why do writers always break up potential gay couples but then drag out the most mundane straight white coupling? Next season better be about Mikey and Titus getting back together and their new relationship. I was hoping Mikey would become a regular this season. Fuck you Tina Fey! Fuck you up your sorry, skinny, bony, whatever you call that thing!

by Anonymousreply 25May 22, 2017 4:17 AM

"Think happy thoughts, like a toilet where you can lay down."

by Anonymousreply 26May 22, 2017 4:21 AM

Any cute guys this episode? I liked the veteran Kimmy briefly dated from season 1 or 2. And that nerd tutor for the rich chick's son.

by Anonymousreply 27May 22, 2017 4:59 AM

The hot tutor also played one of Romney's sons in 30 Rock.

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2017 7:01 AM

"EVERYBODY LEAVE."

by Anonymousreply 29May 22, 2017 8:17 AM

Andrew Ridings (the tutor) was gorgeous

And hairy based on this photo

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2017 11:07 AM

Tina only seems to hire her friends. Everybody in the cast seems to have some connection to SNL and 30 Rock. Judah Friedlander is back, Scott Adsit played the voice actor. Maya Rudolph was brill as Miss Warwick but it does seem to be the Tina's Buddies Reunion Hour

by Anonymousreply 31May 22, 2017 11:14 AM

[quote]I love Titus. Should I watch it at the library in his honor?

Girl, did you not hear him say lieberry?

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2017 11:27 AM

So, the entire season was Tina Fey working out her feelings about the election, right?

by Anonymousreply 33May 22, 2017 11:40 AM

I never liked Josh Charles and cannot understand why he had a career. Anyone remember him from Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter Is Dead. Christina Applegates character liking him was a mystery.

by Anonymousreply 34May 22, 2017 11:44 AM

I've always thought Josh Charles was cute. First fell in love with him in THREESOME , where he played gay and ended up in a ménage à trois with roommates Stephen Baldwin and Lara Flynn Boyle. I wonder what he thinks of his presently crazy, former co-stars?

by Anonymousreply 35May 22, 2017 3:01 PM

Josh Charles' father says something like, "That's what I get for having a baby with a woman -- he's half-girl!"

That one cracked me up!

by Anonymousreply 36May 22, 2017 3:02 PM

R21 are you British? You guys tend to like your seasons truncated. I mean, seriously, 6-8 episodes a season? Why not just call it a miniseries, for God's sake?

by Anonymousreply 37May 22, 2017 3:03 PM

I thought they shot this last summer? How were they able to work in so many election result jokes?

by Anonymousreply 39May 22, 2017 3:11 PM

I thought Seasons 1 & 2 were better. Too many sub plots in Season 3. Carol Kanes character has become tiresome, imo.

I have no idea how Titus doesn't burst out laughing at some of the lines he delivers.

Maya Rudolph as Warwick was hysterical, esp at the New Jersey telethon, trying to pull her gown over her head.

by Anonymousreply 40May 22, 2017 3:21 PM

The gas station bathroom episode: WTF?

My favorite was Titus singing back up on Judah Friedlanders songs.

by Anonymousreply 41May 22, 2017 3:33 PM

I thought the new season was good. Titus is a hoot.

I liked that they didn't make Kimmy win at everything (Columbia, crossing guard).

The Carol Kane story line was drawn out a bit too much. But I liked her love interest (forget his name)

by Anonymousreply 42May 22, 2017 4:45 PM

Season 1 was brilliant because there was no network interference. Season 3 could have used some network interference.

Series that run a long time have large supporting casts. This show goes through its supporting cast like tissues. Too quickly used and thrown away.

Season 3 spends too much time on the leads and they are now mostly repeating themselves.

by Anonymousreply 43May 22, 2017 4:58 PM

Whatever. I enjoyed the new season, after not particularly caring for Season 2. So I'm more than satisfied.

Oh, and Titus better win the Emmy this year.

by Anonymousreply 44May 22, 2017 6:49 PM

Is there less leaving the city this time? Hope so... I really didn't like that Orlando thing, or the going home to the reservation thing. Just too much.

by Anonymousreply 45May 22, 2017 6:58 PM

Jacqueline is too normal. Jane K is fantastic when she's playing a lunatic.

by Anonymousreply 46May 22, 2017 8:19 PM

Kimmy has a lot of forehead lines... how old is she supposed to be.

Jacqueline went to Trump U. for a year - "Go, Pricks!"

by Anonymousreply 47May 22, 2017 8:57 PM

[quote]Kimmy has a lot of forehead lines...

They're scream lines

by Anonymousreply 48May 22, 2017 8:59 PM

[quote]Kimmy has a lot of forehead lines... how old is she supposed to be.

She had her 30th birthday in the first season.

by Anonymousreply 49May 22, 2017 9:23 PM

This was actually my favorite season and I hope Titus Burgess is picking out his Emmy outfit now

by Anonymousreply 50May 22, 2017 9:33 PM

A gay playing a gay won't win an acting award.

by Anonymousreply 51May 22, 2017 10:10 PM

R51 Oh, really?

by Anonymousreply 52May 22, 2017 10:25 PM

Daveed Diggs is my new imaginary boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 53May 22, 2017 10:28 PM

Hayes was a straight guy playing gay when he won awards. Only after the awards were in his past did he become a gay.

by Anonymousreply 54May 22, 2017 10:30 PM

Love the Orange is the New Black cameo by Black Cindy.

by Anonymousreply 55May 23, 2017 12:30 AM

R54 please! Nobody believed he was straight. At least those giving out the awards -- his peers.

by Anonymousreply 56May 23, 2017 12:32 AM

St. Albans shout-out, episode 6. Russ went there!

by Anonymousreply 57May 23, 2017 12:49 AM

Duke, not Russ.

by Anonymousreply 58May 23, 2017 12:51 AM

Daveed Diggs sucks the life out of every scene. He's the weak link in "Blackish" as well. Otherwise, the new season is pretty funny, and Titus is hilarious, And the Maya Rudoplh / Dionne Warwick episode is classic. "Wet baby corn are a singer's best friend."

by Anonymousreply 59May 23, 2017 1:04 AM

I though Daveed had great chemistry with Ellie.

by Anonymousreply 60May 23, 2017 1:13 AM

I don't care about Jacqueline's heritage or the Washington Redskins. When will this storyline end??

by Anonymousreply 61May 23, 2017 2:45 AM

Needs more Dong

by Anonymousreply 62May 23, 2017 4:06 AM

Well r61, I think it ended with the season. She succeeded in getting the name change and it looks like her relationship with Russ (and therefore the Snyder family) is basically over. I do wonder what she's going to do for love and money now?

Is Dong gone for good?

by Anonymousreply 63May 23, 2017 4:28 AM

Is she still married to Russ?

by Anonymousreply 64May 23, 2017 8:53 AM

The boobs in California are the greatest boobs around.

by Anonymousreply 65May 23, 2017 10:30 AM

The last episode implied that she was going to become a talent agent.

by Anonymousreply 66May 23, 2017 10:36 AM

Billy Magnussen is still Casey Hughes to me.

by Anonymousreply 67May 23, 2017 11:40 AM

[quote]Daveed Diggs sucks the life out of every scene.

I'm not familiar with him. This was my first exposure to him, and I thought he came off amateurish. I looked him up to see what else he was in and was surprised to learn that he'd won a Tony last year for HAMILTON. Maybe he's a better rapper/singer than actor, I thought. Can anyone recommend something else he's been in where he was good?

by Anonymousreply 68May 23, 2017 11:44 AM

I bet they're not finished with Mikey and Titus yet, and next season Titus will try to win Mikey back. Didn't Titus do a "God as my witness" speech, a la Scarlett at the end of the book?

by Anonymousreply 69May 23, 2017 11:48 AM

I like Daveed Diggs in this because he comes off so real. Everyone else is such a cartoon that he grounds it. His line about Kimmie getting into Columbia on a full scholarship when he had to work his ass off to get there was great.

by Anonymousreply 70May 23, 2017 11:48 AM

I wanted to see more of Mikey's pupazza.

And Anna Camp's Deirdre Robespierre.

by Anonymousreply 71May 23, 2017 1:21 PM

Josh Charles is hot. I would like it if his character develops a conscience while in Gitmo and then he and Jacqueline can get together for real as Russ takes his place as the corrupt favorite son in the Snyder family. Then again, Josh Charles seems to have it in his contract that he won't ever take off his shirt onscreen, that's a shame.

by Anonymousreply 72May 23, 2017 1:34 PM

He was shirtless a few times on Masters of Sex.

The caps are at Auscaps, which I can't link to because I'm at work.

by Anonymousreply 73May 23, 2017 1:41 PM

Whether it's the actress or the character (or both) I can't stand the show because of Kimmy!

by Anonymousreply 74May 23, 2017 1:59 PM

Mikey and his Tilda-adorned truck and pupazza and his rendition of Biz Markie's "Just a ;Friend" -- I hope he becomes a series regular.

by Anonymousreply 75May 23, 2017 2:29 PM

R72 he got completely naked in THREESOME. Then again, that was 23 years ago, when gratuitous nudity was still prevalent in the '90s. Miss those days. Today, you're lucky to see any skin (especially male) in teen/college comedies.

by Anonymousreply 76May 23, 2017 3:31 PM

Random question: Does anyone know where they film the exterior of Kimmy's apartment? I can't think of a part of Manhattan that quite looks like that, but I don't know of any place in Brooklyn of Queens that that tugboat might be.

Thanks r73! I will check it out. Saw him in Threesome but it seems almost everything he's been in since has had no skin--not even during the Good Wife sex scenes. I think he's only gotten more attractive with age.

by Anonymousreply 80May 23, 2017 7:42 PM

Mercifully short appearances by Hamm and Fey make S3 an improvement over S2

by Anonymousreply 81May 23, 2017 8:04 PM

R78 how do you mean 'figures'? haha

by Anonymousreply 82May 23, 2017 8:06 PM

Meant R79, of course.

by Anonymousreply 83May 23, 2017 8:07 PM

Is Daveed Diggs one of us? He has gay voice. Has his huge black Jewish cock ever been inside Jonathan Groff's boy hole backstage during Hamilton? Dish, theatre queens.

by Anonymousreply 84May 23, 2017 8:25 PM

It's nice of Tina Fey to hire her friends but was anyone clamoring to see more Judah Freedlander?

by Anonymousreply 85May 23, 2017 8:46 PM

R84 He is straight but very gay friendly. His father is gay.

by Anonymousreply 94May 23, 2017 11:51 PM

Daveed Diggs is such a bad actor it's a shame.

by Anonymousreply 95May 24, 2017 2:38 AM

R68 even in Hamilton his acting was atrocious but it's a rap musical and he's a brilliant rapper and he's hot af.

However...he has no star quality or charisma.

by Anonymousreply 96May 24, 2017 2:41 AM

Speaking of "Hamilton," I laughed when Lillian told Titus something like, "This is payback for taking Hamilton from us!" Does anyone remember what part of black culture Lillian was appropriating, according to Titus? I've only seen each episode once, and I cant recall which specific episode it was.

I'm glad TIna Fey hires mainly Americans. I don't care if they're her friends. I'm so sick of seeing foreign actors playing Americans on American TV/movies. American actors need work, too. It isn't just big business who are taking American jobs.

by Anonymousreply 101May 24, 2017 5:29 PM

Nothing so far this season killed me quite as much as Mikey's puppet grandmother last season, but the line "It's my gay best friend, Flouncy Magoo!" is one for the ages.

by Anonymousreply 102May 25, 2017 5:09 PM

Flouncy broke up with D'fwan, both played by Titus B.

Kimmy's professor is married to a woman, both lesbian characters played by Rachel D.

Is Tina Fey trying to tell us something about gay couples?

by Anonymousreply 103May 25, 2017 5:26 PM

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 104May 25, 2017 5:29 PM

You're really stretching things, claiming that Titus claiming to break up with D'fwan (from another series and thus another universe) is the same thing as Dratch playing two parts. Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 105May 25, 2017 5:29 PM

Maya Rudolph was amazing. Did she used to do Dionne on SNL?

by Anonymousreply 106May 25, 2017 5:40 PM

Rachel Dratch as the two lesbians was epic.

by Anonymousreply 107May 27, 2017 5:17 PM

I found it hilarious that they made fun of the names 'Jeff' and 'Linda' because those are my aunt and uncle's names. Well, they're divorced now. Aunt Linda is a dental hygienist, though. And the name Jeff does sound odd if you think about it.

by Anonymousreply 108May 27, 2017 5:28 PM

It's also funny because Jeff is the name of Tina Fey's husband.

by Anonymousreply 109May 27, 2017 5:32 PM

I thought it was "Linda" and "Gary," not "Linda" and "Jeff."

Andrea Martin was talking about her husband "Gary."

by Anonymousreply 110May 27, 2017 5:34 PM

Jeff is the name of Mike's bro.

by Anonymousreply 111May 27, 2017 5:38 PM

I don't care about Kimmy and her shenanigans at all (college, cross guard career, relationship drama). It's usually about the seconadary characters like Titus, Jaqueline and Lilian. But in this season? I don't know, something was just off. Jaqueline was way too passionate helping others and Lillian was just too involved with the whole romance with the Whole Food's (or whatever the food chain on the series is called) to deliver some great one liners. And I don't know if that was the case in the previous seasons, but this season the show relied way too much on stunt casting (Laura Dern, Maya Rudolph, Andrea Martin, for example) to bring in the laughs.

And am I the only one who is so over Beyonce tributes?

by Anonymousreply 112May 27, 2017 5:44 PM

R110 Jeff was the catalyst for Titus and Mikey's breakup. He is the butch guy Mikey befriended while Titus was away on the Dionne Warwick cruise; Titus suspected there was something between them 'cause they were more similar than Mikey and Titus.

by Anonymousreply 113May 27, 2017 5:45 PM

[quote]I thought they shot this last summer? How were they able to work in so many election result jokes?

Ellie Kemper had a baby last summer and filming didn't start until September.

by Anonymousreply 114May 27, 2017 5:54 PM

I think what Ellie Kemper does is actually quite astounding. Kimmy is a bizarre annoying character and she manages to pull it off and still be funny and charming.

by Anonymousreply 115May 27, 2017 11:40 PM

Ugh, I want to get fucked by Scott Adsit so bad. He's single, right? There's something about him that turns me on so much. I'm not joking! In 30 Rock, there'd be many scenes where his huge bulge would be totally out of control.

The season was good, but sometimes Kimmy just seemed TOO retarded. The whole crossing guard thing was pretty weak.

Lillian is great, but sometimes her voice gets stuck in my head and drives me insane. But I love how she's a main character.

Josh Charles was so sexy. Mmm.

TItus is always amazing. Spying on the ex with two toilet paper rolls? OMFG.

The Maya Randolph thing wasn't great. Basically a 5 out of 10.

by Anonymousreply 116May 27, 2017 11:47 PM

R101 - never thought about it, but I agree.

[quote]I think what Ellie Kemper does is actually quite astounding. Kimmy is a bizarre annoying character and she manages to pull it off and still be funny and charming.

Kemper is an underrated comedy actress imo. I became a fan of hers on The Office and I thought she was was funnier than the bland Jenna Fischer.

[quote]I'm glad TIna Fey hires mainly Americans. I don't care if they're her friends. I'm so sick of seeing foreign actors playing Americans on American TV/movies. American actors need work, too. It isn't just big business who are taking American jobs.

I think the only non-American actor that has been on Kimmy Schmidt is Adam Campbell in season 1. Campbell is also on that other Fey/Carlock produced show Great News. I also don't care if Fey hires her friends or SNL alums for the guest spots. I'm mixed on foreign actors playing Americans on American shows and movies because some are great. I can also see why some people here get pissed about non-Americans moving and faking American accents for roles. Kate McKinnon is playing an Australian in that upcoming movie Rough Night and I wonder if her casting was done as a way of shoving it to Aussies and Brits who move here and land roles playing Americans.

by Anonymousreply 120May 28, 2017 3:51 AM

Brandon Andrus, who played Mikey's new boyfriend, is so handsome, but was really under-used. I understand it wasn't about him. But the guy has starred in musicals galore and is a great singer (I've seen him perform in NYC). Glad that he got the job, but I would have loved to see more of him.

Maya Randolph was hilarious as Dionne Warwick. the wet baby corn thing for soothing singers' voices was hilariously random, and she had one of the best lines all season: "You better have a birthmark or a library card, honey, 'cause when we die on this thing, the news is gonna say, "Grammy Award-Winner Dionne Warwick and Unknown Sneaky Fool Found Dead.'"

by Anonymousreply 125May 28, 2017 5:18 AM

Adam Campbell is totally unnecessary on Great News. Why the fuck would a British guy come to America to work at a local news station? How is he even allowed to work there?

I bet Tina didn't have oversight on that casting choice, because she will not hire non-Americans (and good for her!).

They should do a plot-line about how he's here illegally and tries to convince whatever the lead girl's name or Nicole Richie to marry him. And then he gets deported and he's off the show and the mom character can replace him, so she becomes the lead's boss and leads to even MORE drama!

I love Nicole Richie on Great News. The only reason to watch that show.

by Anonymousreply 126May 28, 2017 1:03 PM

[quote]Lillian is great, but sometimes her voice gets stuck in my head and drives me insane.

R127 - her accent? It's endearing but also like nails on a chalkboard.

by Anonymousreply 129May 28, 2017 1:38 PM

I don't think Tina Fey is heavily involved in Great News. It was Tracey Wigfield who created that show. Wigfield worked under Fey at 30 Rock for several years. I wonder if Fey suggested Horatio Sanz for Great News. She could felt sorry for him since he had some non speaking role on Modern Family.

It is usually casting directors or showrunners for basic and premium cable drama shows that hire a lot of non-Americans for roles. I remember some TV blogger used to trash HBO and AMC for hiring non-Americans for True Blood and The Walking Dead.

by Anonymousreply 130May 28, 2017 2:20 PM

[quote]Adam Campbell is totally unnecessary on Great News. Why the fuck would a British guy come to America to work at a local news station? How is he even allowed to work there?

Maybe he's not supposed to be British. His Kimmy Schmidt character was from Connecticut, but was taught to speak with a British accent to sound richer.

There were a couple of episodes of Great News that explained why Adam Campbell's character came to America.

by Anonymousreply 132May 28, 2017 2:30 PM

I also hate how American shows are becoming shorter and shorter -- I0-13 episodes per season? I liked going through the school year (September-May), knowing there was a new episode every week. We only had the summer 'til the next season. I hate having to wait nearly a year for another.

by Anonymousreply 133May 28, 2017 3:21 PM

Would you rather have 10-13 good episodes, or 22 mediocre ones?

by Anonymousreply 134May 28, 2017 3:32 PM

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 135May 28, 2017 5:04 PM

[quote]Adam Campbell is totally unnecessary on Great News. Why the fuck would a British guy come to America to work at a local news station? How is he even allowed to work there?

1. It's not a local news station, it's a national cable news network, like CNN.

2. Ever heard of Peter Jennings? Piers Morgan?

3. If you'd seen the last two episodes, you'd know that his mother (played by Christina Pickles) OWNS the network, so that's how he got the job.

by Anonymousreply 136May 28, 2017 5:06 PM

R134 granted, some shows need just 10-13, but others need more time. THiS IS US, for example, could've benefited from a few more episodes instead of 18. The season felt truncated and rushed, IMO.

by Anonymousreply 137May 28, 2017 8:05 PM

Was this Milwaukee boat house the inspiration for Lillian's tugboat? Fey lived nearby in Chicago for several years.

Finished the season a few days ago. I really loved it. I was a huge fan of 30 Rock so I'm happy Kimmy Schmidt is continuing that brand of frenetic, absurdist humor. I definitely want to rewatch it to pick up on things I might have missed, but a few points:

• Laura Dern was WONDERFUL! I'd hoped she would have come back near the end of the season as the whole divorce storyline wrapped up, but like a few other plots this season it never concluded. She fit into the world pretty perfectly though, and I also love seeing her.

• I missed Mikey. I liked Titus letting him go and learning to be alone, however short lived that was. Perhaps the actor couldn't film, but I loved the two of them together and would have liked to have seen that relationship grow. Maybe season 4.

• Seeing more 30 Rock alumni like Judah Friedlander, Scott Adsit, and Chris Parnell was great. Even the guy who played Tracey's fake son showed up as the choir director. Mustn't forget about Rachel Dratch in her duel role.

• You know who I thought we'd see? Lisa Kudrow as the mother! The entire second season was building up to their meeting and I'd hoped that relationship could have developed this season. For the first few episodes it felt like they had no idea what to do with Kimmy... keeping the mom in the picture, at least at the beginning, would have been nice.

If I think of more things I'll post them, but for now, get small, muchachos!

by Anonymousreply 139June 6, 2017 12:09 AM

I enjoyed it a lot, too. I love Jacqueline. I love Titus and Lillian. I like Kimmy in small doses. My only complaint was breaking up Mikey and Titus for the whole season. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this season more than season two.

Oh, I didn't care for the dull guy from Hamilton who just didn't seem to fit in with the energy of the show. Otherwise, it was great.

I had hoped she would have been back for season 3. A good storyline would have been trying to use Kimmy's kidnapping story for money purposes.

Am I the only one who really isn't a fan of Lillian? I feel the character and her subplots often drag the show down.

She was fine in small doses, but not meant to be a main character.

by Anonymousreply 143June 6, 2017 5:14 PM

R143 I agree. Lillian slows down the rest of the story, and I find myself waiting for her to leave. Less is more in her case.

by Anonymousreply 144June 6, 2017 10:18 PM

[quote]3. If you'd seen the last two episodes, you'd know that his mother (played by Christina Pickles) OWNS the network, so that's how he got the job.

She plays his grandmother and he calls her "Gran" as in granny or grandmother.

I so agree. She really was great and imo the best guest star this season. Well, apart from Rachel Dratch, of course. And Amy Sedaris is a regular and always delivers.

by Anonymousreply 146June 6, 2017 10:31 PM

I like Amy Sedaris but god damn, the woman plays the same role OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Same voice, same facial expressions, same everything. You've seen her do one character, you've seen them all. There's nothing unique about any of them. Her Kimmy Schmidt character is just Jerri Blank in nicer clothes.

by Anonymousreply 147June 8, 2017 11:07 PM

R147 I totally agree with you and think she's a not funny one-note but most gays worship her.

by Anonymousreply 148June 8, 2017 11:19 PM

Is tina fey back? She ruined the second season for me. It's like she can't help herself and has to be in her shows all the time.

by Anonymousreply 149June 8, 2017 11:24 PM

Only in one scene in one episode, r149.

I also agree about Amy Sedaris. I LOVED her as Jerri Blank, but everything else since then has been Jerri without the wig in different outfits. Maybe the accent isn't there, but the same facial ticks, the same forced overbite, the same alternating, exaggerated eye-blinking. It's disappointing. Her Mimi character is Jerri with money.

by Anonymousreply 150June 8, 2017 11:32 PM

R149 Tina only appears in one episode in season 3.

by Anonymousreply 151June 9, 2017 1:01 PM

Again, I ask since perhaps by now more people have seen the episode:

WTF was up with the awful gas station bathroom episode? Am I the only one who thought it was stupid, pointless, and unfunny?

by Anonymousreply 152June 9, 2017 5:18 PM

R152 Agreed.

by Anonymousreply 153June 9, 2017 5:24 PM

I agree, r152. It seemed like filler and didn't go anywhere. Plus, Ray Scar-otta is a drag.

by Anonymousreply 154June 9, 2017 5:38 PM

Huh, that bathroom episode was a highlight for me.

by Anonymousreply 155June 9, 2017 5:44 PM

R154 - I also thought it portrayed Titus in a really disgusting, low-class way, like some kind of animal, when they'd described how he destroyed the bathroom with shit everywhere.

Speaking of Jerri Blank, I think Kimmy reached her "Jerri Blank retarded moment" with that whole wanting to be a crossing guard thing.

Kimmy was supposed to be naive because she lived away from society for so long, but not fucking retarded.

I love Kemper and consider her an actual actress, not like one-note Amy Sedaris.

by Anonymousreply 156June 11, 2017 4:26 PM

Season 3 was better than season 2. It was a good idea to have Titus single again.

by Anonymousreply 157June 11, 2017 5:17 PM

Ellie Kemper does well at playing very dumb characters.

The Ray Liotta episode was so terrible. It was the most blatant display of building an episode around a very special guest star since Glee. At least the Laura Dern one was funny in a pathetic way.

by Anonymousreply 160June 13, 2017 5:16 PM

Casting Ray Liotta in that role was a huge waste. He didn't bring anything new to the role. This is another prime example of the disturbing trend of major actors taking small roles that could have better gone to a talented unknown ethnic actor for whom it could have been a big credit.

by Anonymousreply 161June 13, 2017 7:53 PM

I loved Laura Dern, Maya Randolph (as she should be known henceforth), Rachel Dratch and Anna Camp but all the regulars have become deeply tiresome. And Daveed Diggs was a huge casting mistake-zero charisma and can't act his way out of a paper bag.

Season 4 won't start shooting until next February because Tina Fey will be concentrating on Great News and the Broadway bound musical version of Mean Girls.

by Anonymousreply 162July 9, 2017 3:06 AM

I'm not a Tina Fey fan and I pretty much hated the Mean Girls movie but the original songs in 30 Rock and Kimmy are a highlight of both shows so I'll buy a ticket to the Mean Girls musical.

by Anonymousreply 163July 9, 2017 3:20 AM

"The peacock is for you!"

by Anonymousreply 164July 9, 2017 3:29 AM

Daveed Digs was TERRIBLE. Surely he's not going to have any kind of career on screen. He can't act. Take it back to Broadway, gurlina.

I love Titus, but that Lemonade take off was cringeworthy.

by Anonymousreply 165July 9, 2017 12:27 PM

Another downvote for Sedaris on this show. She amps way up and distracts me during the scenes she's in.

by Anonymousreply 166July 9, 2017 5:47 PM

Yeah, I loved Sedaris in S1 but not this one. A little Sedaris goes a long way. Same goes for Carol Kane.

by Anonymousreply 167July 9, 2017 9:19 PM

I thought the gas station episode was meant to fit into the whole arc of Titus realizing he's self-centered and trying to become a better person. All the bathroom stuff was a set-up for Titus to be humiliated in front of Mikey at the end. I agree that the plotline was too fleshed out to the point that it seemed like an awkward standalone episode though. There must have been some writer with a fondness for cop shows and heist movies who just wanted to make Kimmy a pixy-stick addict for some reason. It also doesn't really make sense to show Titus being so selfish and manipulative after his whole, "I'm still a mortal fetus, don't abort me" thing from two episodes before.

Anyway, "pubic chigger bombs".

by Anonymousreply 168July 9, 2017 10:28 PM

Love this show so much. Please give Titus Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Ellie Kemper Emmys.

by Anonymousreply 169July 9, 2017 11:17 PM

Uhhh, that ain't happening, Flouncy.

by Anonymousreply 170July 10, 2017 2:20 AM

I hope Josh Charles' character turns good while at Gitmo and ends up with Jaqueline. He's great, and it was sad when she had to break up with Russ.
