Chateau Marmont

I'll be staying there next week for a couple of nights.

Is it worth the price? I'm afraid that it will be kind of dumpy and a bit sleazy, but it's kind of a notorious hotel so I wanted to stay there while in LA.

Has anyone here ever stayed there? It actually looks like it's in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It also looks like it should be an attraction at Disneyland.

I'll be pissed if I'm paying over 1000 dollars a night, and it completely sucks.

by Anonymousreply 116November 7, 2018 5:10 AM

bedbug infestation....they need to deal

by Anonymousreply 1February 11, 2017 2:34 PM

Never stayed only been for drinks/dinner a bunch of times. It's a total scene so just be prepared for that part.

by Anonymousreply 2February 11, 2017 2:34 PM

So basically, you're paying 1000 a night for the scene R2? And I guess you're also paying 1000 a night to get bedbugs, as well (according to R1).

It really does look like the Disneyland castle. Kinda tacky.

Didn't Dylan write "Puff the Magic Dragon" there in the 60's?

by Anonymousreply 4February 11, 2017 2:48 PM

R3, Read please. I said I've never stayed there. I only had dinner and drinks.

by Anonymousreply 5February 11, 2017 2:51 PM

DL Icon Lindsay Lohan was a regular!

by Anonymousreply 6February 11, 2017 2:53 PM

Angeleno here... it's a great hotel. if you're going there to run into famous movie/tv stars, you will. it is probably the most certain place in LA that you will see a celebrity. that said, $1000 a night? I hope you're getting one of the penthouse suites because as LA hotels go, the Chateau is not one of the most expensive ones. if not a penthouse you're being ripped off.

by Anonymousreply 7February 11, 2017 2:55 PM

Check out the prices for yourself, R7.

The prices quoted are the lowest for that particular day.

It's a beautiful hotel, and it's right off the Sunset Strip, so it's not exactly in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Aside from the hotel proper, there are cottages and poolside bungalows for the well-heeled traveler.

by Anonymousreply 9February 11, 2017 3:00 PM

It's not in a residential area at all. It's on Sunset Blvd, a major street, wish shops and restaurants. It's set in off the street with a lot of trees in front, so it looks like it might be residential, but it's anything but. I've visited LA a few times, and , though I never stayed there, I poked my head in for a drink. It is not as glamorous or luxurious as you'd expect, and I didn't care for the vibe. There was too much of a have and have not scene for me: the rich and the celebrities, and then those trying to act like one or to see one. It just seemed a little sad to me. I'm not sure I would ever go there again, and I doubt I would ever stay. If you're going to see the scene, though, yeah, it's where you want to be, but I didn't like the feeling of being an outsider looking in at it.

by Anonymousreply 10February 11, 2017 3:01 PM

It gets very loud at night, and traffic is a nightmare around it. It's is very underwhelming. The penthouse suites look like furnished apartments.

by Anonymousreply 11February 11, 2017 3:02 PM

yeah, well you didn't say what type of room you're staying in. BUT that said, they are very amicable with their rates, $1000 a night is a ton of money for LA. Haggle for a better price or better room at that rate. the Chateau is not a Peninsula or Four Season Hotel. FYI, it is located on what is considered one of the worst intersections in LA. get ready for long delays getting to your Chateau. I once spent 30 MINUTES going one block west on sunset from Laurel Canyon Blvd to the Chateau. And if you're going during award season, good luck my friend you will need it!

sign Hollywood player, who's seen it and done it and won't do it again.

by Anonymousreply 12February 11, 2017 3:10 PM

I had no clue about the "awards season" R12.

I was hoping to stay there on the 26th of Feb. because I have a layover in LA. No wonder they were booked for that night. It's the Academy Awards! Duh. That place will probably be nuts.

How about the two weeks leading up to the AA's, R12? Is it still busy? Because I will be staying there next week. Hope it's not too bad.

by Anonymousreply 13February 11, 2017 3:18 PM

Groovey, Baby.

by Anonymousreply 14February 11, 2017 3:19 PM

That place is NOT worth 1000 a night. Gross.

by Anonymousreply 15February 11, 2017 4:09 PM

Perhaps you should email the Chateau Marmont R15, and let them know.

Because they are certainly getting away with charging that price.

by Anonymousreply 16February 11, 2017 4:18 PM

Another native Angelino with two thumbs down.

As others have said, it is possible the worst location in LA--ratchet section of Sunset, major traffic hassles, far from any freeway.

Hotel itself is pretty "meh." No pampering shit like 4SBH or Peninsula or even the hotels in SaMo (Shutters) where at least you can look out over the ocean.

TBH, the hotel thrives on people like you, OP, people who know the legend and want to see it themselves.

You may see some celebrities this weekend because Grammys, but other than that, it's a tourist trap and real celebs know tourists are there to spot them and avoid.

Younger celebs will stay at Roosevelt, older ones at 4S or BH hotel,

by Anonymousreply 24February 11, 2017 5:04 PM

If youre going to drop $1000 there, ask for suite #69.

You could spend half that at The Charlie

by Anonymousreply 25February 11, 2017 5:09 PM

The only celebrities going there are into the party / drug scene. It's practically a TMZ theme park with countless mentions of stars partying hard. I imagine there is a good chance for normal people to see some celebrity drama first hand (drunk fights between celebrities with each other or non-celebrities).

by Anonymousreply 26February 11, 2017 5:21 PM

If you want to see drunk fights between celebrities, watch Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, or similar and save the 1000 bucks.

by Anonymousreply 27February 11, 2017 5:24 PM

Try the Chateau Marmite, it's a bit cheaper.

Well, R6, that explains R1 's bedbug statement.

Is this place just famous for spotting celebrities? I'd never heard of it, thought it might be an LA version of Parliament House in Orlando.

by Anonymousreply 30February 11, 2017 6:08 PM

I'd pay a grand to see that, R26.

by Anonymousreply 31February 11, 2017 6:14 PM

No R26, that's called having a really good PR department and being the site of invite-only industry parties.

Sort of how tourists used to think they were going to see celebrities by going to Planet Hollywood or the Hard Rock back in the day.

It's mostly tourists looking to see if they can spot celebrities.

by Anonymousreply 32February 11, 2017 6:19 PM

R30, it's a very famous hotel with restaurant and bar that, in the '70s & '80s, was popular with artists, writers, comedians, rockers, and young actors because of its close proximity to the rock clubs, nightclubs, and comedy clubs on the Sunset Strip. Today there are dozens of competing hotels along the Strip. The cottages and bungalows are still popular for short-term residencies.

by Anonymousreply 35February 11, 2017 6:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 36February 11, 2017 6:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 38February 11, 2017 6:49 PM

I've stayed several times in standard rooms, couple penthouses with balconies and the bungalows. All the rooms are quite large furnished in varying styles from Depression modern, mid century , 70s glam, California all white. I have paid anywhere from $495 to $3500 a night. I was very disappointed with the bungalows , depression modern New York tenement style. You pay for the scene and service is non existent or very slow.

by Anonymousreply 41February 11, 2017 9:07 PM

I have been to Bar Marmont for drinks and appetizers many times. The food is pretty so-so. Some of the waiters/water boys are fine as FUCK. It is very scene-driven and gets fun around 11pm. You will see minor celebrities there. Pretty much every time I have seen a reality TV star or some sort of TV actor. The restarant in the hotel itself is boring to me although you can see occasional celebs there too. They do hire gorgeous male servers at that venue.

by Anonymousreply 42February 11, 2017 9:51 PM

Lindsay lingers around the cash register.

by Anonymousreply 45February 12, 2017 12:20 AM

Yes R43.

Again--

1. Chateau Maromont frequently hosts events that are attended by celebrities

2. They have an active PR department that makes sure those photos are everywhere

3. As a result, people like OP will pay a grand a night.

But the celebs are only there for the events. They are not randomly milling about the hotel. They rarely stay there. On most nights, Flyoverstani and Chinese tourists are the only people you'll see there.

by Anonymousreply 46February 12, 2017 12:27 AM

At that price I'd rather stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

by Anonymousreply 47February 12, 2017 12:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 52February 12, 2017 1:46 AM

I would prefer to stay at a better hotel and go to the Bar Marmont or even restaurant once or twice. I live in LA and contrary to what others are saying - you DO see celebrities there. They are rarely "A list" per se, but they are stars nonetheless. Lots of beautiful people at the bar and lots of drug use (you will get offers to buy this and that quite easily). The valet is pretty pricey but you are in a hopping part of Sunset (though not a really nice part). It is a fun place - check it out. The thousands of dead butterflies pinned to the ceiling in one room. the open air roof in the other, the ridiculously fine-as-fuck, bubble butt 6'4" Adonis pouring water in the other..

by Anonymousreply 53February 12, 2017 1:51 AM

R52 I'll flash ya for a beer and a cig.

by Anonymousreply 54February 12, 2017 1:53 AM

There's a wonderful hot springs resort in CO for $1,000 a night. I'd much rather go there.

Will it be busy this weekend with the Grammy's on Sunday?

by Anonymousreply 58February 12, 2017 1:10 PM

Yes. GQ is having their Grammy party at Chateau Marmont. Red Light is having theirs just a few blocks down at Skybar. So expect Sunset to be packed with post-Grammy revellers.

by Anonymousreply 59February 12, 2017 2:35 PM

Will OP be there during the Grammys? If so, OP, we expect a full report on all drugged up, loutish, skanky and generally questionable behavior in any and all celebs hanging out at the Chateau.

by Anonymousreply 60February 12, 2017 3:31 PM

[quote] GQ is having their Grammy party at Chateau Marmont.

Bingo.

And to my earlier point at R46, there will be lots of pictures of celebrities from this party on social media and entertainment sites. So that people like OP and R53 think that the CM is swarming with them at all times.

by Anonymousreply 61February 12, 2017 3:38 PM

R61 - any "Native Angeleno" knows that you see celebrities at every turn - the Ralphs or Gelson's more often than not. To say that none of them ever frequent a well known hot spot on Sunset is ridiculous. Plenty of stars (C list at least) hang out at Bar Marmont - and very often.

by Anonymousreply 62February 13, 2017 3:34 AM

Anthony Perkins, Keanu's Reeves and Courtney Love used to live there...when you think of Sale Mineo and James Dean hanging there...you might hope to see a ghost.

by Anonymousreply 63February 13, 2017 3:57 AM

It's NOT a fucking "hot spot" R62

It's a party venue.

It's also a tourist trap. And has been a tourist trap for many years.

by Anonymousreply 64February 13, 2017 4:14 AM

R64 - give us a list of LA hot spots so that we can pick them apart too. Bar Marmont is about par with any that I can think of. There are plenty of trendy restaurants but very few bars that are all that hot these days.

by Anonymousreply 65February 13, 2017 4:20 AM

If you're looking for celebrities, you will definitely see them in the lobby, restaurant, valet and Bar Marmont, and it will be someone you don't expect to see, when you least expect to see anyone.

Mostly actors and stars from New York and Europe.

What's funny in LA is you often see big stars in the lowest key places. Juice bars in Santa Monica and such.

I love and always remember the reservations phone number for Chateau Marmont - 1-800-CHATEAU

by Anonymousreply 70February 13, 2017 5:27 AM

I stayed a night there once just because it was The Marmont. At night I hung my head out the window and if I squinted my eyes at the scene on Sunset it was 1966. The tiny Mexican bottle of Coke in the mini bar was 5.00! Later I was having a drink outside and someone was banging on the outside gate. I opened it to Andy Dick and friends.

by Anonymousreply 71February 13, 2017 5:46 AM

The Chateau Marmont has always seemed witchy to me - far too many spirits roaming around. Although I did see a YouTube interview with Sophia Loren that was filmed at the CM - it was where she lived when she first arrived in Hollywood. Her little place looked totally charming.

Having said all that, it kills me what's happened to The Beverly Hills Hotel. I used to LOVE that place. So much history, and so very, very beautiful. It opened one month after the Titanic sank - that's how old it is.

I don't understand celebrity worship -

I lived in Vancouver for a long time, and there were many Hollywood actors there all the time. No one, aside from the fresh of the boat brown immigrants cared at all. Their feces stunk just like yours. Some have made comments in interviews how refreshing it was to stay/live there, they could live a normal life.

Why are Americans so obsessed with this?

by Anonymousreply 80February 13, 2017 6:38 AM

R75 Somewhere is a terrible movie and did the Chateau Marmot no favors.

by Anonymousreply 81February 13, 2017 6:43 AM

[quote]Why are Americans so obsessed with this?

We're not all obsessed with that.

If you grew up in a place where you saw celebrities all the time you're less likely to care.

If you work in the entertainment industry and are around them all the time, except for a rare exception or two, you really don't care.

I once got excited meeting my favorite writer who no one would give fuck all about except for me and that person's fans. I'd say that had more to do with their mind than anything.

If you're from the middle of bumfuck you might visit a city where you're likely to run into a celeb and freak out.

I don't think that's uncommon at all when you encounter anything new.

by Anonymousreply 82February 13, 2017 6:45 AM

I stayed in one of the reg hotel rooms for a week, rather than a suite or bungalow. My parents had a 1940s house so I like the bathroom and thrifty furniture. I went off season and booked for just under $400/night.

The mineral pool and service is open 24/7. There are these thick, plush cashmere, fleecy blankets in the room that were so great I bought one for my mother. Even though I forgot to book for dinner or the bar a few times, they always fit guests in. The food was good, especially breakfast, and the staff are professional and genial without being service. And yeah, you see a lot of celebrities.

Other than that, it is jus a boutique hotel. I will say the concierge, which is the measure of a 5-star hotel was superb, so I'd return for that, and the mineral pool, again in a second.

by Anonymousreply 83February 13, 2017 6:53 AM

R80 Why is the world obsessed with American celebrities? Check the British/European/Canadian tabloids.

by Anonymousreply 84February 13, 2017 5:44 PM

And you will see celebrities if that's what you're into.

Truth. I saw Steven Spielberg exiting a fast food joint, John Travolta greeting some female friends in an alley, and Tom Cruise jogging (with one bodyguard) at the beach near Santa Monica Pier. Though that was all in 1995 when I was still in my early teens.

"Armed with three Grammys, Chance the Rapper celebrates with lavish party at the Chateau Marmont"

Chance the Rapper newly crowned best new artist at the Grammys, along with two other wins — was a gracious host at GQ magazine's Grammy party at the Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood on Sunday night.

The “No Problem” rapper had complimentary baseball caps, ice cream and pizza at the ready at the epic bash (hosted in partnership with YouTube), good-naturedly posed for photos with fans and even hugged fans on their way out at the end of the night. Just par for the course for an artist who has consistently defied convention, building a career on positivity and artistic integrity in an industry that seldom rewards it.

By 10:30 p.m., the space looked to be at full capacity, just 30 minutes after the party officially kicked off. Chance was among the stars who turned up early, jubilantly dancing onstage, making his rounds and greeting guests who ranged from Oscar-nominated actor Don Cheadle to up-and-coming rapper Lil Yachty.

A surprise performance early in the night by rap group Migos drew a roar from the crowd during the opening strains of mega-hit "Bad and Boujee." Migos also performed its new single "T-shirt" before Chance took the stage.

Guests smart enough to arrive early sported the complimentary black caps emblazoned with Chance's signature 3, reminiscent of the hat worn on his now Grammy-winning rap album, "Coloring Book."

Beyond Snoop Dogg, Katy Perry and Quincy Jones, to the untrained eye it may have been easy to miss the star power in the room. Teyana Taylor, Ray J, Keke Palmer, Alfred Enoch ("How to Get Away With Murder") and Drake's father, Dennis Graham, mingled among Chance's friends, collaborators and several other members of Hollywood's young artist crowd.

By the end of the night, the lavish hotel grounds were littered with broken glass, cigarette butts and Handel’s single-serving ice cream containers, and guests lingered long after the DJ stopped spinning. By 2:30 a.m., guests were just beginning to file out of the party and into waiting Ubers as Sunday night transitioned into Monday morning.

That raucous event at R89 sounds like it would have been hell for the other guests.

Imagine paying thousands per night, to have a lobby full of people, broken glass and drunk people everywhere, and loud music blaring directly into your room until well past 3am.

Fuck that.

by Anonymousreply 90February 14, 2017 12:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 95February 15, 2017 3:49 AM

Go back on Thursday and all you'll see are hotel guests and tourists who read about the GQ party and are hoping Lil Yachty might come back.

by Anonymousreply 101November 7, 2018 1:35 AM

I stayed there once. It was a bit run-down so if the above poster is right, that is a good thing they are doing the Reno.

It does have the signature “cool” Andre Balazs vibe that some of the other, more “corporate” hotels in LA do not.

I stayed at L’Hermitage once too, much more luxurious and closer to high end shopping in Beverly Hills but it doesn’t have that unique, bohemian, celebrity vibe and mystique and cool factor that Chateau M has

by Anonymousreply 102November 7, 2018 1:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 103November 7, 2018 1:53 AM

I’ve stayed at the CM and also stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt while visiting Bar Marmont. I preferred the latter - cheaper and better rooms which still had a retro vibe. Nicer staff as well.

It's a heterosexual bathhouse.

Disgusting to even imagine what has gone on inside those walls!

I have stayed at CM about 5 years ago. I was travelling with my dog and the staff were so great regarding the pup - and actually everything. It was a fun scene. I did not hang out on the "strip" at all while I was staying there ( I was visiting my Dad who lives nearby).

Belushi died in one of the bungalows so if you want to avoid his ghost, don't stay in a bungalow.

I was BORN in LA (Good Sam) and moved to NYC about 15 years ago.

R99 LA needs a bigger finance sector with more high end escorts to make a Mandarin Oriental profitable.

I stayed in the bungalow in which Nicholas Ray held court while making Rebel without a cause. James Dean crawled in through the window to try to get the part from Ray. I slept in the same bedroom where Ray was fucking beautiful little 17 year old Natalie Wood.

Many of the furnishings in the bungalow have not changed since the 50s which I absolutely loved. The whole place is steeped in Hollywood history. I didn’t go to see celebs but I did see one — I won’t say whom because it would be indiscreet but he was an older, newly remarried actor looking very disheveled with a very attractive young woman.

The key swabs, my god. The chateau was expensive but I don’t regret a penny.

R107, I’m r109 and some people say belushi died in the bungalow I stayed in. Others insist it was the bungalow next door. I haven’t found a definitive answer. My partner is very superstitious and so I teased him a lot about the ghost which really annoyed him. The bungalows are old and the stairs to the upstairs bedroom are quite creaky, and well we did hear some mysterious sounds on occasion ....

Been there three times for events and saw Paul Rudd every time.

Actor here. I lived in one of the cottages for a few months on Warner Brothers dime. Loved it.

A tiny bottle of Coke from the mini bar was 4.00 in 1998.

R113 A tiny bottle of Coke from any hotel minibar will always be expensive. Ditto a tiny pack of Pringles, a tiny bottle of bad white wine etc...

At $1000+ per night, ask for the good bedbugs.
