When did John Malkovich turn into an old, gay British actor? In the 1980s, he was an actor that got the hormones racing. Now he looks like Noel Coward or John Gielgud.
It's the scarves that kill me. The kind that only affected opera singers or overweight gay starving actors wear.

He's so ugly and repulsive looking.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 2, 2017 1:57 PM |
Didn't he leave me to hook up with Catwoman?

Tempus fugit

Pointy facial hair!

But in the 1980s, he was considered hot. I remember Oprah drooling over him. Granted, maybe John was Oprah's "Tom Cruise/Rosie O'Donnell" moment, but she did go nuts over him around the time of "The Glass Menagerie" through "Dangerous Liaisons" and "Sheltering Sky" period of his career.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 2, 2017 2:05 PM |
I've always thought he was gross.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 2, 2017 2:08 PM |
OP and r7 realize that the 80s are thirty plus years ago, right? What do you think happens to people who don't die at 27, or go under the knife every year?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 2, 2017 2:13 PM |
He is really into fashion, he had his own fashion line and there was a documentary made about it. I always thought he acted a bit on the gay side but I have never heard any rumours. Maybe he will announce that he is bi soon. I never found him attractive but I always enjoyed his acting and he usually choose interesting films.

Alec Baldwin, who had the same career trajectory, went from being a hot sex symbol to being a sexy daddy. What's your point?

My initial point is that people age, particularly when they let themselves do so naturally.
My new point is that you have terrible taste.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 2, 2017 2:43 PM |
He's spent a lot of time in Europe (especially Lisbon), so he just started to look like them.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 2, 2017 2:43 PM |
He's such a sour pompous man.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 2, 2017 3:12 PM |
Some people age nicely without surgery thanks to great skin/bone structure/metabolism genes.
Great skin - Blair Underwood
Great Bone Structure - Clint Eastwood
Great metabolism - Paul Newman
Tons of surgery well done (after much drug abuse) - Robert Downey Jr, Halston, and, until recently, Calvin Klein

I always thought he is gay, however it seems that he's straight now? Does anyone know John Malkovich's orientation?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 2, 2017 3:50 PM |
I think he is so sexy, but, then, I like men like Dafoe and Jeremy Irons. Then and now.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 2, 2017 4:03 PM |
In this picture from Red 2 he looks extremely similar to Victor Meldrew (Richard Wilson) from the British sitcom One Foot in the Grave. Richard Wilson is gay (though he only admitted it recently)
If you search "Malkovich Meldrew" on Twitter, you'll see plenty of other people think Malkovich is turning into Meldrew, including Amanda Holden.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 2, 2017 4:26 PM |
Yes, OP, 'cuz actors are such a paragon of masculinity!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 2, 2017 4:26 PM |
also, i just found out he's american. I was POSITIVE he was a brit!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 2, 2017 4:27 PM |
Here's Victor Meldrew, in case you aren't familiar with him:
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 2, 2017 4:30 PM |
Meldrew the character wasn't gay though.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 2, 2017 4:32 PM |
The fashion documentary is soooo affected. My God, how self indulgent.

This is the first I've heard of Malkovich getting hormones racing.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 2, 2017 5:04 PM |
Lisbon deserves better than this.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 2, 2017 5:04 PM |
did he have work done?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 2, 2017 6:34 PM |
I had a big thing for him in the 90's- from Annie Lennox's 'Walking on Broken Glass' video in 91 or so to Man in the Iron Mask in 98. I especially thought he was hot in Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde around 95.
Then he aged out of it for me.but, yes, he was sexy for a time.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 2, 2017 6:54 PM |
I believe he's based in Paris now, been living there for quite a while. Hence the affectation.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 2, 2017 7:19 PM |
Blair Underwood is 52. He will be 53 this year. So he is not 56 years old.
John Malkovich was in BURN THIS on Broadway with Joan Allen and he was unbelievably hot wearing a wig with long hair.
Much was expected of him - people thought he would have the career of Dustin Hoffman or Al Pacino - meaning that he would flip back and forth between films and stage projects, picking up awards along the way. Even if he was not leading man category, I would have guessed him to have a John Lithgow-like career, getting great parts and awards.
I thought we would see a major return from him since he suffered big financial losses - his money was with Bernie Madoff! However he has stayed on the fringes.

He's one of the three best actors working.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 3, 2017 1:11 AM |
bump
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 4, 2017 3:22 PM |
Didn't know he had a fashion line. Off to look for that documentary.

[quote] When did John Malkovich turn into an old, gay British actor? In the 1980s, he was an actor that got the hormones racing.
You answered your own question.
He was thirty-five when he did "Dangerous Liaisons"--now it's 2017 and he's 63.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 4, 2017 6:57 PM |
When people ask this question, what they're really saying is, "I remember when he was young and hot--how could so much time have passed?" As if they the people asking the question have not also aged thirty years in the meanwhile.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 4, 2017 6:58 PM |
I didn't care for him much back in the 80s, but re-watching Dangerous Liaisons last night I found him very sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 18, 2019 7:12 PM |
He posed nude in 2016. Still has an incredible body for an older man.

"How come someone who wasn't old in the 1980s is old now? What happened? Please help me solve this mystery."
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 18, 2019 7:24 PM |
He aged into his natural eccentricities.
He is a good actor, but isn't shy about doing crap/commercial projects.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 18, 2019 7:26 PM |
I didn't know Jethro was in that Death of a Salesman. He kept his looks.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 18, 2019 7:43 PM |
Some of you like the OP think that if someone was hot at 35 (which is how old Malkovich was when "Dangerous Liaisons" was released) it is inexplicable he would look different at 65 (which is how old Malkovich is now).
He is now a senior citizen. You've aged too in the meantime--I would bet you're no longer as attractive now as you were in 1989.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 18, 2019 7:53 PM |
"Incredible body for an older man"? No, that is not an "incredible" body.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 18, 2019 7:54 PM |
What about the crossed-eyes? There were always hotter men than John around. He was damned lucky to ever be considered a leading man. A filthy Republican too.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 18, 2019 8:12 PM |
I remember a [italic]Dangerous Liaisons[/italic] review referring to Malkovich's "reptilian charm." His appeal was strange, not for me, but I could see how someone might be interested.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 18, 2019 9:00 PM |
Weird looking, like Malcolm McDowell, the other nerdy "leading man."
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 18, 2019 9:04 PM |
Don't forget me, r47. I'm the new weirdo!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 18, 2019 9:05 PM |
Malkovich insists that he’s not at all political:
I’m not a political person actually, and I don’t have an ideology. And I don’t think other people really think about [my political views].5
He says he last voted for George McGovern in 1972, a Democratic candidate who lost against Richard Nixon:
I haven’t voted since McGovern lost and don’t intend to. I see no reason to.6

"In the 1980s, he was an actor that got the hormones racing."
This never happened.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 19, 2019 3:38 AM |
he has a beautiful voice, IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 19, 2019 3:52 AM |
He nearly ruined Dangerous Liaisons for me. He seemed so ridiculous playing a lady's man, I couldn't believe Glenn would fall for him. Thankfully, everything else in movie works so well, I can ignore it. The only other movie I like with him was Being John Malkovich, and he only had to be in it because his name is in the title. It could've been any celeb with their name in the title, playing the title roll. He was really irrelevant.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 19, 2019 3:58 AM |
What kind of roll, r52? Pumpernickel?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 19, 2019 4:07 AM |
I watched "Eleni" this week -- his voice was kind of annoying in that one, a dull monotone.
R52 Agree he was miscast in Dangerous Liaisons!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 19, 2019 4:14 AM |
Hilarious r53, such wit. I wish all my posts were flawless as I'm so sure all of yours have been!
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 19, 2019 4:17 AM |
OP; he looks sordid.
Sir John never looked sordid.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 19, 2019 4:26 AM |
Wasn't he in that jewel thief movie?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 19, 2019 4:28 AM |
He has Down Syndrome eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 19, 2019 4:29 AM |
I always thought he was a good actor but I never considered him sexy or good looking. And he looks the way he looks now because he GOT OLDER. It happens to actors, movies stars, too. They get old, if they're lucky.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 19, 2019 4:32 AM |
I always thought he was campy / hammy with his acting. He is ridiculous in Billions.
