by Anonymousreply 115August 2, 2018 6:55 AM

Right. Because this worked so well with"Ghostbusters."

by Anonymousreply 1January 30, 2017 10:35 PM

Love Cate! She's half-Texan you know.... (I'm Texan)

Not so much with Sandra, Sandy, whatever..... You will never convince me she didn't know her hubby was into Nazi stuff.

by Anonymousreply 2January 30, 2017 10:41 PM

This is going to be excellent.

by Anonymousreply 3January 30, 2017 11:42 PM

I tried to watch one of the Oceans movie with the guys and thought it was boring.

by Anonymousreply 4January 31, 2017 1:10 AM

I fucking hated the Oceans movie. I felt like I watching a video of a party that I wasn't invited to, but they liked me enough to show me a video of it. It was too self-indulgent and way too groovy for me.

by Anonymousreply 5January 31, 2017 1:20 AM

I agree with R5. I don't remember if I saw the film (don't remember which one) from start to finish but I just remember hating Brad Pitt and George Clooney. It's like they weren't even trying, bad acting (mostly with Pitt), bad writing, lazy lazy lazy. Also one of the few films where I didn't like Matt Damon.

by Anonymousreply 6January 31, 2017 1:25 AM

The first Ocean's film is great fun. The second feels as R5 described. The third is inoffensive, but doesn't capture the magic of the first. I have no strong opinions on Ocean's Eight, but the cast is strong.

by Anonymousreply 7January 31, 2017 1:31 AM

Is this about menopause?

by Anonymousreply 8January 31, 2017 1:57 AM

Sarah ("Bette Davis of America") is going to overshadow all of those bitches!

by Anonymousreply 9January 31, 2017 2:00 AM
("Bette Davis of America")

Wouldn't Bette Davis be the Bette Davis of America?

by Anonymousreply 10January 31, 2017 2:05 AM

R10 No!

by Anonymousreply 11January 31, 2017 2:08 AM

ah thanks r11.

and btw how did you make the youtube video start at the precise moment?

I want to learn that!!!

by Anonymousreply 12January 31, 2017 2:11 AM

R12 That's easy. Just pause the video, right click on the video box and select "Get video URL at current time."

by Anonymousreply 13January 31, 2017 2:16 AM

I didn't know Steve McQueen was so stupid. He's like Tony Blair of Great Britain.

by Anonymousreply 14January 31, 2017 2:19 AM

Matt Damon is supposed to have a cameo in this film. What will be his role?

by Anonymousreply 15January 31, 2017 2:24 AM

R15 George, Brad and Matt all have cameos. They play their Ocean's characters as this is a spinoff/sequel. Bullock plays Clooney's sister.

by Anonymousreply 16January 31, 2017 2:32 AM

Will there be any objectifying of men in this film?

by Anonymousreply 17January 31, 2017 2:34 AM

Richard Armitage and Damian Lewis are in it. So maybe.

by Anonymousreply 18January 31, 2017 2:36 AM

R8 Yup Should be called the "Menopausal 8" Who thought we needed another Oceans flick? The first was ok because of old time actors but the next couple were walk throughs.

by Anonymousreply 19January 31, 2017 7:39 AM

IMDB lists a ton of people in cameos--everyone from Kim Kardashian to Zayn Malik.

by Anonymousreply 20January 31, 2017 10:45 AM
Matt Damon is supposed to have a cameo in this film. What will be his role?

He plays Jan van der Boob.

Yeesh, r21. Though, guess we can expect her to have a manly ass.

by Anonymousreply 22January 31, 2017 2:08 PM

The writer of Ocean's Eight is highly creative, instead of Danny Ocean, Rusty and Linus - the characters are Donna Ocean, Dusty and Lisa. Mind-blowing! And they're THIEVES! But they're WOMEN!

by Anonymousreply 23January 31, 2017 2:15 PM

Wait. There's someone named Awkwafina? I'm assuming she's a rapper of some sort?

by Anonymousreply 24January 31, 2017 2:23 PM

Lets hope so R17.

by Anonymousreply 25January 31, 2017 2:28 PM

She's an Asian comedian-rapper

by Anonymousreply 26January 31, 2017 2:39 PM

The third Ocean's movie was basically just an excuse for the actors to have an extended European vacation on the studio's dime.

by Anonymousreply 27January 31, 2017 2:47 PM

Not the Rat Pack, but the Pussy Pack!

by Anonymousreply 28January 31, 2017 3:11 PM

Where is Carl Reiner?

by Anonymousreply 29January 31, 2017 3:18 PM

Awkafina? Sounds like a drag queen from the '70's.

by Anonymousreply 30January 31, 2017 7:40 PM

Which actress will be doing the mandatory dreadful Cockney accent?

by Anonymousreply 31January 31, 2017 7:45 PM

R27 Wonder where they got that idea.

by Anonymousreply 32January 31, 2017 8:00 PM
Though, guess we can expect her to have a manly ass.

Why?

by Anonymousreply 33February 1, 2017 12:43 AM
Which actress will be doing the mandatory dreadful Cockney accent?

They're bringing in Meryl for a cameo.

by Anonymousreply 34February 1, 2017 2:36 AM

Are they refugees from a plastic surgery clinic? This could be either great or awful. This is the movie where all of the cast members hate Cate Blanchett and her marriage fell apart during filming. The Met Gala heist seems very TV movie of the week but maybe it will be a good comedy. Sandra as a ripoff character named "Debbie Ocean" made me wary. Good luck menopause champions!

by Anonymousreply 35February 1, 2017 3:10 AM

I love ensemble heist movies. I'm not going to compare it to the male version. I'll just try to enjoy it on its own merit.

by Anonymousreply 36February 1, 2017 3:13 AM

They made 3 Ocean's films? I hated the one with Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 37February 1, 2017 3:15 AM

Everybody hates the one with Julia Roberts, no matter what movie it is she's in.

by Anonymousreply 38February 1, 2017 3:16 AM

Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway are the most unpopular cast members

by Anonymousreply 41February 1, 2017 4:40 AM

Not Cate but certainly AnnE, R41.

by Anonymousreply 42February 1, 2017 4:50 AM

Filming is wrapping soon and these two Oscar winners still haven’t spoken to each other outside of their acting roles. A couple of scenes had to be rewritten just to keep them away from each other.

Cate Blanchett/Anne Hathaway

by Anonymousreply 43February 1, 2017 4:52 AM

Blanchett and Bullock look like they're made of wax.

by Anonymousreply 44February 1, 2017 4:57 AM

I stumbled upon some old video of Blanchett being interviewed on YT. It reminded me that there was a time when Blanchett was actually quite normal, unaffected, spoke in non-grand manner... about ten, fifteen years ago.

by Anonymousreply 45February 1, 2017 5:03 AM

Can we all at least agree?

Ocean's 11 - Original has not stood the test of time. Ocean's Eleven - Not bad. Updated, fast-paced. Ocean's Twelve - Julia Roberts - how can you make Europe seem do dark and dreary - horrible! Ocean's Thirteen - good comeback from Twelve disaster, but labored scenes with Damon and Barkin, and the Mexican factory strike.

by Anonymousreply 46February 1, 2017 8:46 PM

I'm so excited for this, I actually like all of these actresses and Rihanna. But I have bad DL taste because I love Julia Roberts, she may be a b***** in real life but she is one of that last big movie stars. I will see any movie with Cate B.

by Anonymousreply 47February 1, 2017 8:51 PM

R47, this is Sandra's show.

by Anonymousreply 48February 1, 2017 11:10 PM

Will Frank Ocean be doing the music? Or will it be Billy?

by Anonymousreply 52December 14, 2017 6:59 PM

This film will suck twice as much as Ghostbusters

by Anonymousreply 53December 14, 2017 7:15 PM

R53 Thanks, Mystic Meg.

by Anonymousreply 54December 14, 2017 7:19 PM

By the end of the caper, they'll all be on the same cycle.

by Anonymousreply 55December 14, 2017 7:37 PM

R51 That looks more like 'Kill Bill's Uma then Blanchett on the poster.

by Anonymousreply 56December 14, 2017 7:40 PM

These remakes are actually a bit condescending to women. "Wouldn't it be adorable if we remade 'Where Eagles Dare' -- and they were all GIRLS?"

It's like dressing your chihuahua in an army uniform. "Look he's a little soldier, aren't you my precious angel?"

Notice you don't see Hollywood lining up to make a male Beaches or Steel Magnolias.

by Anonymousreply 57December 14, 2017 7:41 PM

R56 Yeah, good catch! She does look like Uma from the side and with those glasses and the bangs.
These remakes are actually a bit condescending to women.

You say condescension, women say inclusion. But thanks for being offended on others' behalf. We had an all-male version and no one bitched about it, so why bitch now? Is your imagination really that limited? I bet there will be a whole lot of fist pumping going on in the theatres when this comes out. I'll never forget this one woman being on the edge of her seat at the Avengers press screening whenever Black Widow had an action scene.

Cannot wait to see this movie!

by Anonymousreply 58December 14, 2017 8:10 PM

Looks fun! I'm open minded enough to give it a shot without listening to the closet misogynists who haven't even seen it!

by Anonymousreply 59December 14, 2017 9:00 PM

Whomever did that poster should be fired, it is awful and totally unbalanced. If they thought the apostrophe after the 'n' didn't ruin things they were wrong. Back to the drawing board!

by Anonymousreply 64December 19, 2017 11:43 AM

I wonder how many fucked for their part in the film. the casting was done pre-Weinstein right.

by Anonymousreply 65December 19, 2017 11:53 AM

You live a sad life, huh, R65.

by Anonymousreply 66December 19, 2017 11:58 AM

The poster is hideous. Looks like a 20th centurySoviet propaganda flyer.

by Anonymousreply 67December 19, 2017 12:19 PM

"Every con has its pros"

"Pro" is short for prostitute. I wonder if that was intentional? Seems odd, otherwise. Let's face it, the selling point for this film isn't that it's an all female heist movie. That's been done before. The selling point is that it's an all male franchise that's been redone with women. It's a shame they couldn't envisage an all female franchise without having to tack it onto that godawful Clooney/Pitt/Damon series. It smacks of tokenism.

I'm still looking forward to it, though. I love Cate Blanchett.

by Anonymousreply 68December 19, 2017 2:00 PM

If they had a decent, twisty plot it could be fun.

I don't know which one of the Ocean's Elevens I watched with Clooney and Pitt, but it was B O R I N G !

by Anonymousreply 69December 19, 2017 2:37 PM

"because women don't deserve their own franchises or fresh ideas!!"

by Anonymousreply 70December 19, 2017 3:14 PM

This casting sucks. Jennifer Lopez or Cameron Diaz would have been perfect for this.

by Anonymousreply 71December 19, 2017 11:22 PM

And I'm glad you added "fat" to that second part because that could easily apply to two of them.

by Anonymousreply 79April 12, 2018 4:48 PM

Looks horrible. No wonder Steven Soderbergh wanted nothing to do with it. Can someone explain how Mindy keeps on getting work? Does she have dirt on somebody powerful?

by Anonymousreply 80April 12, 2018 4:48 PM

Awkwafina does seem like yesterday's news. They should've gotten Cardi B instead, judging by the number of threads about her here on DL.

by Anonymousreply 81April 12, 2018 4:49 PM

Looks fun! Looking forward to it

by Anonymousreply 82April 13, 2018 1:51 AM

Social media reactions

Ethan Alter: Had a cracking good time with #Oceans8; zippy pacing, great set-pieces and NYC photography and top-notch cast. Here's to Rachel Bloom and/or Frances McDormand joining the team for Ocean's 9.

Michael Blackmon: Anne Hathaway is fucking fantastic in #Oceans8.

Caroline Framke: The biggest and best heist in Ocean’s 8 is Anne Hathaway stealing the entire movie!!!

Phillip Henry: What a comeback for Anne Hathaway in my heart. She was so good. It was so fun!

Tomris Laffly: I don't really need superheroes, or lots of fancy special effects, Hollywood. Just give me a line-up of fabulous female actors in high fashion, PERFECT smoky-eyes & layers of statement necklaces, and I'll be all set. Yes, #Oceans8 is my kind of fun, glossy entertainment!

Sam Lansky: Oceans 8 is so good and fun and I hope it inspires a generation of young women to grow up and scam men for fun or vengeance

Richard Lawson: OCEAN’s 8 is funnnn

Dave Quinn: #Oceans8 is so good, it’ll make you like Anne Hathaway again (I never stopped but seriously - she’s doing GREAT work in it).

Sydney Scott: Anne Hathaway was amazing in every scene of #oceans8. THAT bitch, first of her name, queen of Genovia.

Rachel Simon: OCEAN’S 8 is very funny and good and features the best comedic Anne Hathaway performance in years.

Nigel M. Smith: Expected #Oceans8 to be a blast. Didn’t expect for Anne Hathaway to be its MVP. All the ladies are stellar but she steals every scene she’s in. She’s a hammy riot.

Adam B. Vary: Since we're all tweeting about #Oceans8 now, it's that rare movie that I quite thoroughly enjoyed and yet also wanted to be so much better.

Gwynne Watkins: Ocean's 8 is exactly the movie I wanted it to be: a breezy heist film full of banter, capital-f Fashion, and elaborate nesting-doll con jobs. I'd watch one of these every summer.

Alison Willmore: Oh, I really, really wish Steven Soderbergh had directed OCEAN’S 8. I was pretty bummed out by both the writing and directing! Cast was great!

by Anonymousreply 90May 23, 2018 4:02 PM

I'm totally ready to like an all-female Oceans 11. But I won't like it just [italic]because[/italic] it's all-female.

by Anonymousreply 91May 23, 2018 4:25 PM

R86 I love what Sandy and Cate are wearing. Mindy's face is still a mess.

by Anonymousreply 92May 23, 2018 4:30 PM

Looks like the MVP is Anne Hathaway.

by Anonymousreply 93May 23, 2018 4:44 PM

r90 Thanks for that. I'm glad it's not a turd as it would just give the MRA haters more ammo.

Still, it'll be interesting to see what the critics say about it. The review embargo lifts two weeks from now, the Tuesday before it releases.

I liked the lez vibe between Sandy and Cate.

by Anonymousreply 99June 10, 2018 3:03 PM

So, is anybody going to try that trick that Sandy did at the beginning of the movie where she swiped the items from the store and attempted to return them?

by Anonymousreply 100June 10, 2018 3:04 PM

left after the first 20 minutes

by Anonymousreply 101June 10, 2018 3:37 PM

Surprised there’s not more love/discussion of this flick! Saw it last night with friends - and we all had a ball!

There were flaws sure. Some plot holes bigger than Swiss cheese! And some of the gals seemed criminally underused at times. But overall - huge amounts of fun and energy - and it looked great!

It seems to have done well so far at the box office - in spite of some mean spirited reviews. And there’s lotsa kudos for Anne (with an E!) Hathaway for ‘stealing the show’. And while I don’t quite think she did that - she comes pretty close!

So yeah - why aren’t there more comments from you bitches? There was more going on here in the lead-up to the release than now the film is actually out!

I have lotsa nitpicks and curious to see if otners have them too - but like I said - overall - fabulous!

One really mean spirited thing from me tho: I love Sandra Bullock. She has a genuine warmth and likeability onscreen that’s hard to resist. BUT there’s an opening scene and one near the end - where whoever styled her should be shot. Especially the opening one! With all the surgery she’s had, and the makeup and the way her hair was done - the friend sitting next to me - a woman who is also a huge Bullock fan - gasped ‘god! She looks like Michael Jackson!’ - and she really did. It was disturbing. Really harsh lighting/makeup/photography. Someone should have done something surely?

Anyway - so some more thoughts and reviews from DL kindred spirits please!

by Anonymousreply 102June 15, 2018 4:36 AM

Did anyone see that twist ending coming?

by Anonymousreply 103June 15, 2018 4:51 AM

An enjoyable ride. It's a heist movie without suspense or tension. It just plays out with glossy surfaces and nominal character development. Mindy Kaling is huge on the big screen. Has there been a featured actress that portly in recent memory?

by Anonymousreply 104June 15, 2018 5:05 AM

Dunno R104 - but thought it was great to see someone who wasn’t all skin and bone. Rhianna looked pretty voluptuous too! Just wish they were given more to do!

R103 - thought he twist was kinda bolted on. But whatever. It was fine. Tho woulda been nice if the little acrobat had also been a woman - in keeping with the theme of it all...?

I also felt like lotsa little character building scenes might have been sacrificed to keep the pacing up? I thought the pacing was great though - could quite happily have used the odd character-building scene and it wouldn’t have slowed proceedings down in the least. Odd though - I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder! I thought it moved along at a fair clip - yet read a review that said it plodded. I was like - wtf? Did you see the same film as me?

by Anonymousreply 105June 15, 2018 5:17 AM

Was this any good? If so I’ll def see it.

by Anonymousreply 106June 15, 2018 5:20 AM

It seemed that James was fluctuating an American accent.

by Anonymousreply 107June 15, 2018 5:22 AM

What was Damon’s cameo?

by Anonymousreply 108June 15, 2018 5:49 AM

R108 - gather that the Damon cameo was akin to Hitchcock making little blink-it-and-miss appearances in his own movies. BUT that for whatever reason - it ended up on the cutting room floor. Wonder if we’ll one day get a director’s cut - or a DVD version including lots of the cut scenes...

R107 - Corden was my least favorite part I think. I just was put out of the story because he’s so ubiquitous now as Corden the Tonight Show Host - and he isn’t a good enough actor to overcome that. He was JAMES CORDEN - and wtf was he doing in this story?

by Anonymousreply 109June 15, 2018 7:18 AM

I though there was some tension for sure. And I didn’t see that twist coming.

by Anonymousreply 110June 15, 2018 11:32 AM

Saw it last night and didn't care for it. Maybe I expected too much but it just felt like an extended perfume commercial. I agree with much of what r104 said:
It's a heist movie without suspense or tension. It just plays out with glossy surfaces and nominal character development.

Zero suspense or tension or humor. 'Nominal character development' is generous. You learn almost nothing about any of the characters. And I'm not an SJW but it stood out how the minority members of the 8 got the least screen time and character development. Kaling disappeared for a good chunk of the movie and I forgot she was in it. Did they have to film it without all the actresses there at the same time? There was surprisingly minimal interaction between them all and the whole production just felt very detached. Never got a sense they were a team. Could have been a fun movie but the script and execution sucked.

by Anonymousreply 111June 18, 2018 9:43 PM

Archie Panjabi should come onto the next movie Oceans 9. Hot hot hot.

by Anonymousreply 112July 31, 2018 3:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 113July 31, 2018 3:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 114August 2, 2018 6:28 AM

I loved this movie. Its not supposed to be Shakespeare but fun and hammy. Anne and Helena were great. Cate was her dykey best. Sandra was outshined in her own movie.
