by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 15, 2017 3:20 AM |
This doesn't surprise any of us real DLers who are all too familiar with sows at the trough.
If people think that a large, fat female mammal in the house whose primary interest is being fed and whose secondary interest is being assured over and over that she is loved is unusual, they need to pay attention.
But, on the topic of the quadruped swine, the question is not whether it is possible to "housebreak" a hog (which it is, if you consider using a litter box and dribbling shit all around it as "housebroken," because hogs do not squat and aim), it is why you would live with a standard-sized hog in your house. Idiots such as R4, citing "love" and pretending to knowledge about such creatures, which are NOT pot-bellied pigs (a nuisance all their own), are too typical in today's DL.
It is obvious to anyone who is familiar with such animals that the hog is ill-suited to the flooring in that house. It is babied and emotionally stunted. A note on "two breakfasts" from the fool woman shows the motives and M.O. involved.
A pet standard hog is possible. Many children (not adults) around hog raising become attached to specific animals, and hogs are smart, sensitive, weirdly acute when worked with, and not usually violent if piglets are not involved. But even a pet hog needs to be kept outside, out of the house, in its own space, with its own shed/cover, rut space, water (ample water), and the freedom to do what hogs do. And I have witnessed previously docile adult hogs become violent when upset (they are demanding and highly emotional animals, and they are NOT domesticated). If you have seen the damage a hog's teeth can do, you would not be so droolingly approving of this.
But this crap is not cute. It is evidence of a psychiatric condition at worst and bad judgement and bad decision-making at best. And if you question this, please consult the ample literature on hoarding, emotional dependence on pets, and other relevant information. Much of it is aimed at a low intelligence and education level, so even R4 could learn something from it.

There are many breeds of hogs, just like chickens, horses, sheep, dogs, etc. You don't train a hog to use a litter box, Jesus Christ. It goes outside just like a Saint Bernard or a Great Dane would.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 15, 2017 3:41 AM |
Esther is fine, she sends her love, R9. Having followed her for a year or so on Facebook, I don't worry much about the cute gay couple, but I do worry about the dogs and other critters in the house. The guys feed her well and constantly cater to her, but jealousy could easily happen. Oh, and she lets herself out and in when she uses the 'facilities' outside, so that's apparently not much of an issue.

Pigs are smart. I grew up on a farm. When you went in and out of their pens you had to make sure you were blocking the view of how you opened the gate. Once they saw you they would know how to get out. Plus bacon is so delicious that I'm sure pigs feel it's on honor to die to put it on your table. Never trust anyone who doesn't like bacon.

I haven't looked at pigs the same after a farmer close to my hometown was eaten entirely by his pigs. Law enforcement didn't know if he died from a medical reason in their pen or if they attacked him and ate him. They ended up taking the pigs out to the University of Oregon, I believe, where they would make that determination. Creepy weird story. I didn't eat bacon for a few months after.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 15, 2017 4:31 PM |
We had a pig almost as big as this one we called Myrtle. She was very tame and very smart, and my brothers and I made the mistake of treating her as a pet.My dad kept her for about 4 years, would breed her and sell the piglets (the ones we didnt raise and eat) until one day we came home from school and there was Myrtle, hanging between 2 pine trees ,split from top to bottom. My brothers and I became hysterical, and I wouldnt touch pork again for many years. Coincidentally,Myrtle hated my father from day one and wouldnt let him near her,but I used to sit in the pen with her and play with her babies and she never tried to attack me. I think she knew my father was a bastard!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 15, 2017 4:32 PM |
On any animal you butcher the meat does become last tasty. If you wait for animals like a cow or pig do die of natural causes, into old age for them, the meat generally become inedible. Most pigs get butchered at about a year old. Ten months if you're going for more delicious bacon.

My aunt had one of these - a guy ripped her off by selling her a full size pig that was represented as a pot belly. It was crazy smart when it grew up and loved fried eggs. She could open the fridge and cupboard doors with her mouth and many times when my aunt would enter her kitchen in the morning, Wilma would have a skillet and eggs out. She couldn't cook them though because she her hooves couldn't turn the dials on the stove.

Advocate: Esther the Wonder Pig, the commercial-sized pig who became a social media smash hit when the gay men who adopted her began chronicling her adventures as she grew from what they thought was a micro-piglet into a 650-pound house pet, is getting a feature film, according to Deadline.
Since Esther’s “dads” Derek Walter and Steve Jenkins adopted her in 2012 and began posting about her in 2013, she has amassed a social media following that includes 1.4 million Facebook users and more than half a million Instagram followers. She’s also been the subject of three books including Esther The Wonder Pig, Happily Ever Esther, the vegan cookbook Esther Approved!, and Esther The Wonder Pig, a children’s book about love and family with a gay male couple at the head.

I love pigs, and i read that they are the smartest animals (with dogs and dolphins). But i also read that they are sometimes used by the mafia and serial killers to get rid of bodies. So i have mixed feelings about Esther 8i adore Cornelius, tho)

My father grew up in an Amish community. At eight he decided to ride a mama pig.. She threw him off and bit his calf. Had the scar until his death at 68.
