Is Broadway hunk Charlie Williams still claiming he is bisexual?

When he was interviewed 6 years ago, he was only 22 and gave a really unconvincing explanation for why he is bi - that he had dated women in the past and you never can know what will happen in the future. Also, apparently no one is 100% gay or straight - we are bisexual according to this genius. Self-loathing gay man still clinging to that hope he can find Mrs. Right...

The odd thing is he refers to himself as gay and homosexual several times in the interview before he is asked specifically about being bi and then after explaining that he usually just says he is gay, he goes into his word salad about keeping all options open.

He did mention he was "still figuring things out" at 22 so maybe he will get over his aversion to being gay...

You seriously started a thread about a chorus boy? You couldn't post this inside the theater queen thread?

by Anonymousreply 1January 5, 2017 6:49 PM

Where's he from? It's not MEM.

by Anonymousreply 2January 5, 2017 6:52 PM

He's from pussy r2.

by Anonymousreply 3January 5, 2017 6:53 PM

R4 So everything even tangentially related to Broadway has to be buried in those ridiculously long Broadway threads? Screw that...

by Anonymousreply 4January 5, 2017 7:23 PM

Atleast he is dating fellow actor Ryan Steele...

He doesn't sound self-loathing to me. What prompted you to post this six year old article and bash the guy?

by Anonymousreply 6January 5, 2017 7:40 PM

R6 The way he defines bisexuality is so broad that it basically erases gay men - in fact, he flat out stated that there are no 100% gays or straights so every gay man could potentially find the one woman who flips some magic switch and suddenly becomes a pussyhound. This is the very definition of heterosexism and homophobia that many so called bisexual men have internalized and when you call them out on it, they scream biphobia! How convenient - its like white people complaining about "reverse discrimination"

by Anonymousreply 7January 5, 2017 9:29 PM

That's a needlessly harsh interpretation, r7. He was 22 and honest about how he's still figuring himself out. He simply sounds like a Kinsey 5, technically bisexual with an overwhelming preference for men, hence his decision to identify as gay. Being involved in Broadway Cares, doing tap dance routines to Barbra b-sides at Ali Forney benefits, characterizing his workout as gay, no, buddy, this is not heterosexism in action. If you seriously read that interview and concluded this guy is just holding out for the right girl and encouraging other gay men to do the same, you need to work on your insecurities and self-loathing because that's an absurd read.

Maybe he is bisexual. What do you want him to do, date away the straight? It's his call.

by Anonymousreply 9January 5, 2017 10:14 PM

OP - always looking to be "outraged" over something, am I right? Man up, chicken wing.

by Anonymousreply 10January 5, 2017 10:26 PM

I think he and Steele have parted

by Anonymousreply 11January 5, 2017 10:29 PM

R8 Bisexual apologists are worse than the christian right...

R9 There ain't no "straight" there to pray away...

[quote]AE: So would you consider yourself bisexual? CW: I would. I usually tell people I’m gay. But sexuality is so complex. You’re never 100% gay or 100% straight. It’s a soul thing. You fall in love with a person, not a sexuality. I know a lot of people don’t believe in bisexuality, but you have to be true to yourself. I’m just Charlie.

I have absolutely nothing against this guy but I hate when bisexuals pull this shit. If you are bisexual, own it. And before someone chimes in with the tired 'it's so hard to identify as bi, we aren't accepted by gay or straight people' I would say: #1 - So what? No one ever said coming out was easy. It's up to you to grow a backbone, no one else can do that for you. #2 - Why are you looking at gay/straight communities as your first line of support? Why are you not looking at the bisexual community? And if there is no viable, supportive bi community then that's on you guys, no one else can build that for you.

Oh, sure. Except the part where we're small in number, have no funding or institutional support, just this crazy ability to imagine people experiencing sexuality differently than we do and a consequent willingness to listen to them with an open mind.

You sound like one of those guys who'd take "the cure" if one were available. Charlie Williams sounds like a guy with a minimal sexual interest in women which he could use as a foothold to pretend he's straight if he wanted to. He doesn't want to. He was very open about that. Stop shitting on the chorus boy.

by Anonymousreply 14January 6, 2017 3:13 AM

R14 Listen with an open mind? Sure unless you are gay then you get smeared with accusations of biphobia. When the ex-gay movement started to get alot of press attention in the 90s, many of the bisexual activists refused to condemn the movement and attacked gays who refused to believe the so called ex-gays and insisted that ex-gays were just very fluid bisexuals and their decision to lead a heterosexual life MUST BE respected and affirmed over the objections of gays. Many bisexuals were also supportive of mixed orientation marriages, even those coerced by religion, because they refused to see the men as gay and insisted that these "bisexual" marriages must not be pressured to divorce.

There ain't no cure and I love being gay (unlike most bisexuals) but bisexuals could care less - most of them hate their homosexuality and live as heteronormatively as possible, except for that guilt induced down low sex that they love so much. Pity the poor wife or girlfriend who gets a disease he picks up from a trick.

R13 But when you call BS on this mamby pamby BS you get attacked by the bisexual supremicists like R14....

He's a bit full of himself. Only will give you the time of day if you can further his career.
