Is there a difference between Straight and Str8?

One is literate; the other is not.

I still remember when a clueless straight guy at work wore a t-shirt that read "2QT2BSTR8T" When the shirt was explained to him, he wore it inside out for the rest of the day.

"Str8" is like WTF or BRB-- text slang that got appropriated by Olds and the greater community at large.

Generally means the person writing it is a 19 year old femme twink or an Old trying to pass himself off as 20something. (because as I've learned on DL, all 40 year old gay men look 25.)

I say generally because sometimes people will do it so that whatever they are saying fits into a character limit

But if someone says "RU str8" on Grindr, it's a good sign you should just move on.
