The Atkol Video message board thread

What a shame. I went to the website just yesterday and saw that it's gone. Years worth of porn knowledge disappeared in an instant!

It looks like they're having server issues. I'd imagine they have their database backed up. Hopefully anyway. There was a lot of very informative postings there over it's many years.

I once loved ATKOL. Had a lot of fun chatting with the pornstars. There was really only one poster on that board I never could stand. Biggs (who mainly posted in the politics threads) was without doubt the nastiest, most hateful person I've ever come into contact with online. Well, 2nd nastiest actually. I won't mention the nastiest as i don't want to get a Beetlejuice thing going.

They've had quite a bit of problems with their server over the last year or so. Lots of extended outages. I hope they get things up and running again. If they don't, poor J. Smithson will kill himself.

Remember when some guy named Waverunner posted pics of some surfer dude and pretended to be him. And all the geriatric eldergays were swooning over every word Wavy said, until someone accidently (really by accident) discovered the guy was a fraud...

I remember about a year or so ago when ATKOL was the victim of a repeated attack from some outside entity. I can't remember but I think they said it was from some foreign group. Brought the site to a standstill 2 or 3 times for days at a time.

I used to love ATKOL back in the old days of the Internet. Lots of porn producers fighting with each other. Lots of drama.

I'm hoping it's just a server issue, too. Some of those old threads go so far back, and I remember all the arguments with the different porn producers and performers (and especially David Forest). Jeff Satkin (Atkol's owner) was a real pioneer.

Here is the link to the ATKOL Lifeboat forum. This was set up by one of the posters there initially back in 2014 during an extended outage so the stalwarts could at least find one another in the case of future outages. The lifeboat has been started back up as of 3/26. Apparently as of now none of the ATKOL posters knows anything more than anyone else knows, which is nothing.

Biggs was a cunt and a half. I also couldn't stand Terry G who was either a troll or really a redneck freak with jungle fever. Then some ultra PC types like Rym and Cutlass got on my nerves too. I stopped going to the site years ago because traffic had slowed down but also because it seemed with a screen name you were doomed with a reputation forever if you said something the 'in' crowd didn't like. So I started coming to Data Lounge, which had a bad reputation at Atkol.

Terry G was exactly what he made himself out to be. A country white boy who was infatuated with black cock. LOL

Every board where everyone must register always has at least one hall monitor. That one poster who makes sure his opinion is always known, corrects everyone on everything they say because he knows more about everything than anyone else on the board, and anyone who disagrees with him is automatically wrong. Rym was Atkol's hall monitor. I despised that officious know-it-all.

I never had a problem with Terry G. In fact i always felt sorry for him because of the abuse he suffered. We like what we like, and some of those assholes over there couldn't stand the fact that he enjoyed black culture. They showed what secret racists they really were.

I didn't mind Terry G, either, and when he'd ask for a photo of some phoine black man, I'd always oblige. I know it's not appropriate to 'fetishize' anyone, but it seems like most of us do it at one point of another. J Smithson was always a dear.

I don't understand why Terry G was such a retard and couldn't Google his own pictures of "phine" black men? He also had such a strange way of writing, I'm really convinced he was a troll. Then saint-like Rym would descend into the thread and explain to us why we should be nice to Terry even if it appears he's an old southern redneck who fetishizes black culture. It got old after a while.

Don Norman, that was another regular poster. Nice guy, but I think had a compulsive need for sympathy from people for all his problems like money, health, his weight, family, etc.

I used to love when Paul Baressi would post, and get into some trash-talking with other posters.

Don Norman worked at Capitol Video (he might still be there, as it's still in business!) in DC. Terry G was annoying in his obsessiveness. Among the porn guys, the most annoying were Jackson Phillips (who oddly didn't disclose his throuple, although he was a otherwise a self-absorbed gas bag). There was a closeted right-wing doctor from Dallas who was probably stalking c-list star Brendan Knight, who himself was a pretty good sport and good contributor. And then there was Matt Sizemore who had a meth meltdown on the site. It was a an interesting place--it's prime was probably 1997-2000ish but it occasionally was interesting after that.

I fucked the one with MS. Can't remember his name.

Late 90s is when I was most active up until around 2001 then gradually through the years lost interest.

Oh ok and here is the granddaddy of kooks on that board: laofalong. That guy is wacked. All over the place with his lefty conspiracy stuff and appears psychologically damaged from the AIDS dying years in the 80s. He constantly brings it up "the OLD Key West" and how he is going to live happily ever after in COMMUNIST (these are his emphasis) AIDS-free Laos. Good luck with that one.

Yeah--Loafan or some such---he seemed to gradually go off the rails and then became permanent straightjacket material.

I liked Waverunner--I figured he was a phony early on (the story didn't quite hang together) and loved reading his fangurls lap it up.

The doctor guy had trouble with basic medical concepts-----I used to mock him and kept wondering out loud if he was a doc or actually something else (janitor, x-ray tech).

Gerry T was hysterical. The Sisters who ruled the board were not amused. But he nailed it.

For some reason I thought that Terry G was black.

The archives were just full of fun stuff and fun facts and fun trivia about the business and the people in the business. I would sometimes go way, way back and be entertained for an hour rereading old threads. Zak Spears had an "Ask Me" thread that went on and on until one of the posters got a bug up his ass about some menial subject and pestered Zak about it so much that Zak finally left on his huffy bike, but he was very entertaining while he lasted. Lots of "stars" were there at one time and took the time to answer most queries that were asked, but eventually another asshole would irk them and off they went for good.

"David Forest" (RIP) could not be driven away "for love of money." He had "stars" to "publicize" and suffered the " slings and arrows" from a lot of "posters" who "couldn't stand him" or his posts.

The one story he told has stuck with me all these years later. He represented vintage gay porn star John Rutherford and would pimp him out to select customers. Came the day David found out that John had been pimping himself out, on the side, meaning that David wasn't getting his slice of the beefcake. David wrote that he and John had a terrific fight about it in David's office and they got really pissed off at each other and David was thinking about letting John go as a client and told him so. They both were stewing in their own juices with John pacing in back of David who was sitting at his desk when all of a sudden David felt something hard and huge snaking down his shoulder towards his face. The fight was over when John came in David's mouth for the thousandth time and then went out on an assignment David had set up for him..

One thing I remember so vividly is when the picture of David Forest sitting naked on a concrete patio appearing to be drugged out of his mind and being urinated on (right in the face no less) by several of his porn boys. I read the forum, but never posted. I used to buy VHS tapes from their store in Plainfield. Mostly BelAmi to get my fix of Johan, Dano, and Lukas. That was maybe 20 years ago. The people who worked in the store were interesting. Odd but interesting.

Forest was promoting the comeback of Marco Rossi and was asking absurd prices and I pointed out that it was too much and while Rossi was a nice looking guy there were thousands of others better looking who'd perform cheaper. He went on this rant about how special Rossi was and no one could do what he did and he was worth thousands more.

Of course Rossi never came back, they didn't want him at a standard rate, much less the inflated rate Forest was hoping for. Forest could not take anyone criticizing him no matter how plain and inoffensively it was put to him.

I used to order Bel Ami tapes from Atkol, R28. But that's not as much fun as going to their store.

David Forest sounds like a cokey, sleazy, nutcase pimp.

I always assume that Terry G was black, but some of his narrative didn't ring black to me. For example, his love for vintage country/western music of the 70s. Artists like Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Mel Tillis, etc. Not saying black people cant like that music, but I don't think it's typical. Oh, and he had a pack of feral cats living under his house scratching his screen door. The other part of his story was that he used a dial-up connection and got on the Internet via AOL. Something about all that just seemed a little too perfect, like it was a character that's been created.

Terry G didn't have a PC. He had that old system that I can't remember the name of where you got onto the internet through some sort of hookup to your TV. I well remember him talking about it once. Terry was just a deeply closeted (for his own safety) white guy from (I think it was either Kentucky or Arkansas) who I gathered didn't have much money and lived in a rural area. He liked what he liked and had very little contact with people outside his little town. I felt very sorry for him and the way he was treated by some. But then gay men on the internet can be the nastiest creatures who ever walked the earth.

I thought Terry G was more annoying than sympathetic. Not only would he spam the boards with music topics, he would sometimes derail other threads by bringing up someone like Ja Rule -- who would have nothing to do with anything! I seem to recall things getting better when the moderator created a new music category just for him?

I always appreciated how easy it was to get identification help on ATKOL. I mean, you could have posted, "What was the video where this rancher fucked a twink farm hand in a horse trough?," and within an hour, someone would have answered with the title and performers.

R24 Here's one of the pics of a nude David Forest right before he got pissed on. I've heard people say there was video of it but I never seen it myself.

Wasn't the watersports clip leaked by the Kruezer guy (aka. He who shall not be named)? The guys who peed on Forest were two porn models from that era. They were featured in the clip as well being interviewed but during their piss session their faces were never shown.

I remember that Forest handed Jeff Palmer over to Kruezer when Palmer was off the rails and at the very end of his bareback porn career.

For years Forest was about to write and release a tell-all about his life including which celebrities hired the porn stars he represented. I don't think it ever materialized.

ATKOL, gosh so many memories and great threads to watch. There was one sad one though about naming porn stars you are suprised doing bareback. Even back then it grew quite fast and is probably one of the few threads that got updated with new posts quite often.

Just to show how things have changed I remember the outrage, OUTRAGE I TELL YOU, so many of the officious ATKOL posters exhibited when they saw that ATKOL was selling bareback porn. I remember posting something to the effect "if they want to stay in business they'll have to because that's the direction things are going".

This thread had been discovered by the few ATKOLers who're still posting.

I kept trying to remember, and thank you for the update, R42. I want to just offer a nice chair, and my comfortable bounty, to that sweet, kind poster named Cordell. A gentleman I wish I know in real life.

I was on that site for several years as "Buddyboy." I got turned off by some of the really mean guys like Biggs who came on later and who were so obnoxious, and left. I did make some good friends on it, some I'm still friends with today.

R41, you have to remember many of them were personally affected by the AIDS crisis during the dying years. Also, if I recall correctly didn't one of the more beloved long time posters suffer and die from AIDS and it all played out on he board?

I remember Biggs saying once that he had some medical issues and at most had about 5 years left. If that was true then he is long dead. I told him then that if I was in his shoes and knew I only had 5 years left I think I might try to treat people (even people you don't even know online) a little nicer. Strangely enough he never even responded, which I took as maybe a breakthrough since he never wasted an opportunity to attack anyone over the smallest thing. Anyone other than his 2 or 3 little fan boy butt babies who worshiped his every pronouncement, like that little pompous twit 'Iluv2rideurbigone' or however he spelled it. As Biggs' activity on the board decreased their activity on the board did too until they pretty much were all gone.

I never had any problem with Laofalong although I did recognize he was somewhat "out there". I got the feeling he might be a bit of a chicken hawk for the SE Asian boys. I guess there's nothing wrong with that as long as they're of legal age, no matter how old he is. I remember he had some serious health issues as well. I hope he made it through all that and is healthy and happy again. Any gay man who has to exist in Arkansas has my utmost sympathy.

The music topic created just for Terry G was a flop because no one wanted to specifically go into a topic that he was involved in. So he just started going back to the regular general discussion thread.

Web TV, that's what he had. Not AOL on a dial-up like I originally said. I knew it was something funky.

Terry G was just trying to do what everyone else on that (or any other) chat board wants to do. He wanted to chat. He wanted to talk about the things that interested him. But as usual when a bunch of hateful queens get together he was treated like dirt because they considered what he wanted to chat about was beneath them. I have little doubt if he had wanted to talk about Broadway musicals those nasty girls would have been all up for it.

I don't think it was the music topics necessarily, because anyone could post a Cher or Madonna thread and get lots of responses. It was more about his obsession with black thug men which people always called him out on, and his bizarre use of grammar and punctuation.

As far as his literacy was concerned everyone there knew he was an uneducated guy from the sticks. He probably never had the ability to pursue higher learning due to economic factors in his family. I never got the feeling they were rolling in money. The duplicity with many gays is disgusting. Case in point. It has been revealed that the reason ATKOL closed down was due to the death of founder Jeff Satkin. Jeff was a pioneer in the gay chat board scene. ATKOL was a major presence long before there was a Datalounge, or most other gay chat boards for that matter. The name "ATKOL" came from a line of flavored condoms Jeff introduced to the market many years ago that were marketed as "A Tasty Kind Of Love".

I can't find evidence that Jeff Satkin died, but it looks like his father died recently.

Well, according to Mike O'Neill (the former ATKOL webbie) Satkin died in early March.

I didn't realize that Jeff Slatkin had died until I read this.

I'd imagine he had backups of all the postings. The site went down occasionally over the years and when it popped back up soon afterwards all the old post were there. Those would probably be with the person who was over Slatkin's estate or maybe even Mike O'Neill, the former webmaster mentioned above.

It would probably be too expensive to relaunch the site, but it would be great if the archived posts were put up some place.

I agree. I just feel it's sad that this collected and valuable historic data just disaappears.
