Singer Joe Jackson

Inspired by the Worst concert/live performance thread, there was some interesting information about Joe Jackson. Thought a thread about him might be interesting.

Anyone have interesting info about him?

What was the interesting information?

by Anonymousreply 1December 31, 2016 11:17 PM

Is he gay?

by Anonymousreply 2December 31, 2016 11:39 PM

r1 Bad plastic surgery, and talk about his boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 3December 31, 2016 11:39 PM

Sometime back in the righties he was rumored to have stopped a concert to yell at the audience for making too much noise and being a distraction to the band. Bit of a Basil Faulty complex.

by Anonymousreply 4December 31, 2016 11:42 PM

Real Men is one of my favorite songs from the 80s.

Somebody post a link to the worst concert thread. TIA!

by Anonymousreply 5December 31, 2016 11:42 PM

R4 Make that "eighties" not "righties." Damn autocorrect.

by Anonymousreply 6December 31, 2016 11:44 PM

I used to see him at the Strand all the time.

by Anonymousreply 7December 31, 2016 11:50 PM

I remember him talking about a foreskin problem and having to get circumsized as an adult.

by Anonymousreply 8January 1, 2017 12:10 AM

He dated a tranny in the 80s. Must be bi at the very least.

by Anonymousreply 9January 1, 2017 12:15 AM

Loved his song "Steppin' Out" but honestly I don't know a single other thing he has done.

Back in the 80's Joe and his band put on a very memorable concert. We went to see the opening performer. Everyone was ready to leave when Joe Jackson was about to come on stage. I convinced our crowd to stay. His was an outstanding performance. Everyone was glad we stayed for Joe Jackson too.

When I was reading the post about him on the worst concerts thread, at first I thought the poster was referring to Michael Jackson's father and I was confused about when he ever had a musical career of his own

by Anonymousreply 18January 1, 2017 2:06 AM

I've never seen him live. I used to listen to Body & Soul on my Walkman when I would go running. It really is a great album.

He did the soundtrack for the Debra Winger film Mike's Murder and then the filmmakers decided to go with John Barry's score. Both are great.

by Anonymousreply 20January 1, 2017 2:39 AM

"Look over there!.. Where?" Is She Really Going Out With Him was his biggest US hit. 1978 or 79.

Joe Jackson always reminds me of a guy I had a fling with back in college. He'd play Joe Jackson music and we'd smoke weed. He was "straight" and we used to have a really fun time over the course of a few years. Wish I knew where he is now.

by Anonymousreply 22January 1, 2017 9:33 AM

Does Joe Jackson have a partner?

by Anonymousreply 23January 1, 2017 1:41 PM

I was too, r18.

by Anonymousreply 24January 1, 2017 2:11 PM

God don’t like ugly

by Anonymousreply 25July 15, 2018 4:59 PM

He has had some horrifying plastic surgery

I love “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” Love it. And the other hits, too.

by Anonymousreply 28July 15, 2018 5:35 PM

His debut album, "Look Sharp," is great, every one of the songs.

(My favorite song on the album: "Look Sharp.")

We have a friend in common. He is-- or was, I haven't heard an update -- partnered with a eunuch. I don't know much other than that. I was a little horrified when my friend told me that, I didn't ask any questions.

by Anonymousreply 30July 15, 2018 8:32 PM

yes r29! I fucking love him too and hadn't even thought of 'Look Sharp". He has so many great songs.

by Anonymousreply 31July 15, 2018 8:49 PM

Oh and "19 Forever" was my song! "wouldn't it be a drag to be like them? they're gonna sell out every dream but I won't get fooled again, cause I'm gonna stay 19 forever..."

I saw Joe Jackson several years back at a small venue in San Francisco. Good show.

by Anonymousreply 33July 16, 2018 2:06 AM

Fantastically talented!

by Anonymousreply 34July 16, 2018 2:38 AM

He is or was bi and, I think, terribly conflicted about his sexuality.

Now 63 years old....wow

R29 "One More Time" is my JJ jam. The bass line is amazing, seriously.

I've got all Joe's hit singles although he was kind of a 1980's thing. He was kind of an odd duck.

by Anonymousreply 39July 16, 2018 10:22 PM

I've got Joe's famous Look Sharp album with the white shoes on it. He said that they really were his shoes but he's lost track of what happened to them.

He's an activist for "Smokers' Rights". That seems a little gross and creepy to me.

Always loved Steppin’ Out, but after watching some of these other videos I suddenly realized that it’s Joe Jackson who is being parodied by Dana Carvey:

I have loved Joe Jackson since I was a kid and saw "Mad At You," "Real Men" and "Breaking Us In Two" on MTV. He came through my area a couple years ago and I dropped everything and rushed to see him, cuz I only heard about it a couple hours before the show. It was amazing, moving, breathtaking. I was choked up repeatedly throughout the set.

Fast Forward (no pun intended, that's his latest album title, and name of the tour) a year. I go see him again, a few hours away in New Jersey. Different leg of the same tour. Same tour. Same band. Same songs. Same order. Same set list.

Only this time, Joe is reading the lyrics to every song off of an iPad as he sings. Every song, he touches his iPad screen to get to the next song lyric. He missed a few keyboard cues because he was scrolling down on the iPad to get to the next verse, etc. He messed up some basic lyrics on a few songs because of this multi-tasking between the iPad-ing and the keyboards and singing. He was so dependent, and it was so cringe, I came away thinking that he had developed Alzheimer's between the first and second leg of the tour. I mean, there's no explanation. It was plain weird.

That is fucking weird r47! And these songs are 30 years old. Man, I hope he's not early Alzheimer's but what a strange story!

by Anonymousreply 48July 17, 2018 3:57 AM

That Carvey bit in no way resembles him. What an odd thing to say.

by Anonymousreply 49July 17, 2018 4:15 AM

R49 - Go watch the “Is She Really Going Out with Him” video at R21 and get back to us .

You didn’t ask any questions? You should be banned from DL!

by Anonymousreply 51July 17, 2018 4:53 AM

R45 So, he's for freedom. How is that creepy and gross? You sound like a 1984, gross creep.

by Anonymousreply 52July 17, 2018 5:26 AM

He has to have been in love or he couldn’t have written “Number Two”. Great song. Saw him in Minneapolis in 89 or 90. I thought it was a good show.

by Anonymousreply 53July 17, 2018 5:37 AM

R52, there are limits to that "freedom" when those who claim it engage in an activity that directly affects other people's physical health.

by Anonymousreply 54July 17, 2018 5:57 AM

r54 why does what he's saying hurt you? he didn't say that you were through, always something breaking us in two...

by Anonymousreply 55July 17, 2018 6:08 AM

R54 Oh, get over yourself, snowflake.

by Anonymousreply 56July 17, 2018 7:20 AM
