If by hit you mean didn't reach the top ten than yes it was a hit.

Unlike REAL hits like

Happy Days, Makin' It and Theme From the Rockford Files, Miami Vice Theme.

BTW the theme from Friends is what they consider to be a "phantom number one." These are song that would've certainly went to #1 if they had been released as singles, but they weren't and at the time Billboard would not allow a song to chart unless it had been released as a single. Other phantom #1 songs include: Pinball Wizard (Elton John), More Than A Woman(Bee Gees) and Madonna's "Into The Groove" [note those songs were not released in the USA, they may have been released in other countries as singles.]

r2 sounds deranged

I never heard this song outside of the TV show, which had what, 6 episodes?

Greatest American Hero and Friends both had huge hit theme songs.

36 episodes you bitch at r4!!!!!

The theme song, "Different Worlds," performed by Maureen McGovern. peaked at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100, and spent two weeks at #1 on the Billboard adult contemporary chart. McGovern's only #1 on that chart.

The theme from the first season had a less polished sound than the second

I wanted Robert Hays in me quite deeply.

[Quote] Billboard would not allow a song to chart unless it had been released as a single.

Then how did "Beautiful Stranger" by Madonna chart? And "Into the Groove" was a single side. Both songs charted.

R8- I take it you're NOT a top.

R8 Me too. There was something so sexy about his 'everymanishness'. The theme to Hawaii 5-0 (60s/70s ) version was a huge hit in its day.

I think the theme to Laverne And Shirley was briefly a hit in 1976.
