I'm a man in decent health. I haven't been sexually active in months, and even then my crotch didn't come into contact with another man's crotch. My pubic area stinks, more than I think it should say after the gym or working all day. I don't think it can be smelled outside of my clothing, but I can smell it when rub my fingers in the area and smell them, or smell my underwear. I shower with a mild soap (Dove) and always make sure I blot the area dry with a clean towel before putting my underwear on. The smell is sort of sour and sort of yeasty. It's not particularly inflamed or itchy. Any ideas how to fight this problem? Cheryl?
Serious question about crotch odor

by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 29, 2016 11:09 PM |
You may have some sort of fungal infection - hot weather, sweat, and the moist area of your pubes can create hospitable environment for that kind of thing.
It's probably what's commonly known as jock-itch or something similar (though the flamers will diagnose you with a yeast infection - and men can get yeast infections too - not just Cheryl).
Call your doctor if it's really bothering you. Otherwise, try some of the over-the-counter medications first.

See a doctor. if possible. Prescription creams are best. I've been there, OP. Don't stress.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 29, 2016 11:21 PM |
If you wear anti-antiperspirant it might just be that because your armpit glands are blocked you are sweating more through your groin. Switch to a deodorant.

by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 29, 2016 11:31 PM |
A couple real-world ideas that will help quickly.
1. Hibiclens is a disinfecting liquid soap. Wash your crotch and surrounding areas with it, leave it on 5 minutes, rinse it off. Do this 2-3 times a week for a couple weeks. It might work after the first use. Hibiclens will also kill all the germs on your armpits so that you don't have to use deodorant. Wash your pits with it a couple times a week, leaving it on for 5 mins each time. It's available at drugstores.
2. Poor man's version of #1. Mix 1 tsp of chlorine bleach with a tablespoon of liquid soap (shampoo is good) and wash as in #1. Leave it on 5 minutes, rinse. Do this 2-3 times a week.
I suspect Dove is leaving a residue on your skin and/or not cleaning it well enough to keep odors away.

Douche with a mixture of peroxide, bleach and Lysol. Then scrub coarsely and vigorously down there with some germicidal liquid soap (the same kind they used to disinfect corpses at the funeral home) for about a couple of hours with some steel wool.
If all else fails, you could always rub battery acid onto and into your vulva.

And before you scoff just remember toothpaste is just soap for the teeth.

I went through this weird thing for maybe 6 months once, when my feet just stunk, and, I had this incredible pain inside my feet, eventually moving up almost to my knee. The pain was really terrible. It was like my bones hurt, though who knows what it was? I went to the best doctors, but they were stumped, and it went away in its own.
Funny story, I was seeing a new doctor, but it was healing at that point. The smell was mostly gone. When I told the doc of the smell, he asked me if it stunk right then. He was checking if I was delusional, ha ha.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 30, 2016 3:18 AM |
Here's something I thought was odd. I have a stack of black t shirts. They sat for a long time. Then I took them out for a trip. While they sat unmolested, the armpit area on the shirts all got discolored. It was deodorant that remained on the shirts after they were washed. Overtime, for whatever reason, the deodorant became apparent. When I washed them again, the discoloration went away.
So, even if your clothes look fine, if you've had them awhile, they might have deodorant buildup on them that doesn't wash off. Ir they might have any chemical buildup. It could be irritating. If so, replace the clothes. Particularly if they are cheap things like t shirts or briefs.

Make sure you are exfoliating well down there with a wash cloth...I cant believe how many dudes just use their hands. Skin on skin does not provide enough friction to remove the bacteria on the surface. If that is not enough, trim all your pubic hair very low. The hair holds odors.

Ditch the dove and get something with more lather and less moisturizer. Make sure you are using a cloth to seriously scrub the area when you shower. Don't neglect your ass...scrub it well and not just on the outside. After showering use a blowdryer to really dry things out completely. Don't use powder or creams unless a doctor recommends it. Most of that shit just makes it worse. I think you're being too gentle with your cleaning and dove just stinks like elderly people so replace that.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 30, 2016 8:22 AM |
R73 is correct, but don't use a wash cloth. They collect bacteria. Get a good granular scrub like apricot or sugar. Scrub well. Follow up with a tea tree anti fugal body wash.

Trader Joe's has a few inexpensive tea tree options for washing. I've never used them but you might want to try those products. Personally, I love dr. After using an anti-microbial soap, and trimming your hair, you can dilute some bragg's apple cider vinegar with water and spritz down there. It works as a toner to rebalance PH, and ACV can ward of bad bacteria/fungus/yeast.

by Anonymous | reply 85 | November 30, 2016 4:17 PM |
OP, if you're overweight THAT IS THE REASON! That area is all squished together most of the day, especially as you're sitting and there are lots and lots of pores down there so you're going to sweat and with all that heat buildup you're poonanny is going to smell like mungus relatively quickly.
Lose the weight and the smell will go away.

I do the usual scrub and tug and finish with a clear rinse followed by a second rinse with the baking soda and water solution. I have found that this does away with any type of oder from over heating resulting in sweating around my balls and crease areas between my legs scrotum and butt crack area. I also rinse my feet with this to limit odor from wearing athletic shoes. Very inexpensive and worth a try.

It is most likely just some offending bacteria and you want to get rid of it. Like mentioned earlier use an antibacterial soap and leave it on your skin for 5 minutes and rinse. But if your not into antibacterial soaps...... You could put some rubbing alcohol (plain 70%) on a washcloth and wipe the offending areas or your whole body. Try it once or twice everyday for about a week. You should notice a difference in a couple of days, but do it longer to make sure you resolved the issue. Make sure your clothes and sheets are washed to get rid of the bacteria. While it may be the wrong time of the year, if you can, put your mattress outside in the sun for a few hours. Another option is boric acid. Simply apply it wherever you want to keep smell away after taking a bath. Boric acid will slow down the spreading of bacteria. Using too much, however, can irritate the skin. I prefer and use the rubbing alcohol as it is cheap and easy, but do what you want. If I don't use this method every six months or so I get smells behind my ears, pits, crotch, and feet. Crotch kind of has a yeasty scent to me and this method takes care of it. Good luck!

R74 is right. Use a washcloth for exfoliation (scrub!) and a blow dryer on your crotch area after showering. Use the blow dryer until the area is "bone" dry, lol. For real though, using a only towel will still leave some dampness. Don't forget the creases at the top of your thighs. Switch to an anti-bacterial soap like "Dial". Also, washing the washcloths, bath towels and your underwear in hot water when you do laundry will kill any lingering bacteria. Sleep without underwear or pants to let the area air out for a few hours. Wash your sheets in hot water too.

use a cotton pad to apply vinegar to crotch and underarms to destroy odor causing bacteria. you may need to dilute 1 to 1 with water, if too strong. do this first before showering. brush teeth, shave have coffee etc for 15 min. then shower. no odor for 24hrs! in summer, use milk of magnesia applied with cotton ball after shower (let dry and dress), to control odor and wetness. its a great antipersperant. natural is best. I even use the apple cider vinegar on feet if I get athlete foot itch. best stuff ever. use as a toner to help with acne. it kills bacteria. use to clsan off pesticides on fruit and veggies too

OP, I had the same problem but it went away once I began changing my underwear once/week.

A friend always had a strange body odor. The culprit? Ivory soap. Your soap or body wash may be causing the odor. Spray your crotch with rubbing alcohol after you shower.

The white Dove bar soap is a very mild face soap. Switch to a deodorant soap like Dial. Or Dove's new shower gel for men.

I had the same problem about 20 years ago. I stopped using Dove soap and started exfoliating and shaving down there. Never had a problem since then.

It’s probably just old mans smell = decay.
That said, it might be ‘cancer smell’. Penile cancer gently wafting. Ask at a research institute if you can borrow one of ther cancer sniffing beagles for the weekend. If he barks once and puts his head in your lap, best just drink some bleach and kill yourself. No one wants to visit a dick cancer patient. What would they say? “Feeling up to it?”

I developed a bad case of athlete's feet several years back. I tried everything OTC manufactured for that specific ailment. None of it worked, I then tried pussy cream which did not work either. What finally cured my feet? Soaking them in a bleach/water solution every other day for a week. Have not had repeat issue since then about six years ago.

When I cut back my sugar intake and stopped eating white bread, my jock itch disappeared.
