Do you find her iconic? I think she is.
Do you know, or like any of the songs she has sung?
You can definitely find a couple of goodies in her discography.

Your selection is very lacking.
I saw her live in Key West. She was 2+ hours late and had to be poured into a chair.

I saw Grace Jones at Afropunk last year. She was on time and electrifying. Your poll does not include her most popular or noteworthy recordings.

I love her cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire".

I saw her once at Shop n Save buying cheap garlic bologna.

Grace felt my ass up once. I waited tables at Odeon in the 80s and she was in the Dolf and an entourage. While standing in the back writing a check, I felt someone's hands feeling my ass up. Turned around and it was Grace.

No, R5, that was me in blackface.

R6 Viv: I don't care what Lucille said, you did the better Jolson's Mammy.

That bitch is like 70 years old and she can still hula hoop while singing for 15 minutes straight
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 17, 2016 5:17 PM |
Yes, r8, but should she?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 17, 2016 5:17 PM |
R9 LOL
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 17, 2016 5:26 PM |
R1, it's all a matter of taste, so your opinion is subjective. You didn't even bother writing the songs you like. How can one value your opinion this way?
I've checked most of her songs, (i really did) and these are the ones i liked. Whenever i make a music list, i'm really aware of someone's discography and never in a superficial way. Someone's discography does not include only their hits, you know...
R3 i don't like this cover much. The original is immensely better, in my opinion. But it was great that you mentioned it. So far, you are the only one who mentioned a song!

No much love for 'Seduction Surrender'? It's a cult moment!

That's the trouble...
Taking every little thing so heavily

Went down to meet Grace Jones at the office and we waited for three hours. Benjamin went out and made calls and finally tracked her down at Bergdorf’s getting a fur coat out of the Revillon cooler. She spends all her money on fur coats. She says it’s all she cares about, and that she doesn’t care about money, just furs ... She buys them and stores them all in the cooler. I was taking pictures of Grace for Vogue, and we were interviewing her for the cover of Interview. But anyway, she was really late, and we were putting her down for hours and then suddenly she appeared and it was all, ‘Oh darling!’

Oh, how I love a well-chosen Andycdote.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 17, 2016 5:53 PM |
She has very big feet. And you know what that means.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 17, 2016 5:59 PM |
My fave is 'Feel Up'.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 17, 2016 6:15 PM |
I second [R3] and [R14] and would like to add Nightclubbbing and Demolition Man.

"Slave to the rhythm" in its extended version is *everything.*
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 18, 2016 12:58 AM |
She had Dolph Lundgren in his prime.

La Vie En Rose. Dedicated to friends no longer with us.

I like Inspiration and Unlimited Capacity for Love.

Love Grace. Did anyone else read her memoir from about a year ago? It is not an easy read; it's almost as if she agreed to do it as long as not one word of it was edited. She starts out with her childhood in Jamaica and you start to think wow, this is really detailed and a bit repetative; it's just going on and on, how many more pages til the next chapter? Then it turns out the every chapter goes on. And on. And on. And on. etc. To her credit, the chapter on Studio 54 is interesting because she describes EVERY SINGLE THING she could possibly remember about Studio 54. There is also a chapter on why she is always late ("it's what people expect from me by now. It's part of my brand"). It may not go down easy, but how could one expect anything less from La Grace?

What, no "Pull Up to the Bumper"? "Private Life"? "Love Is the Drug"?
The Sly & Robbie/Compass Point era (80-82) was the best. I like her take on Tom Petty's "Breakdown" (there's also a clip of her singing it on Solid Gold, but the audio sucks). Grace is eternally cool.

OP, I applaud your taste in music. Her entire catalog is exquisite and worthy of attention.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 18, 2016 2:28 AM |
I love "Private Life: The Compass Point Sessions".
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 18, 2016 2:37 AM |
Grace Jones is small at one end, much much less smaller in the middle and then small again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine and belongs to me, and I own it and what it is, too.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 18, 2016 2:41 AM |
Grace Jones is awesome, she is everything that Gaga wants to be but does not have the "It Factor nor the multidimensional personality". Grace is pure art and her music is an example of pure art and allurement. She did not have the greatest singing voice in the world but it was negated through her charisma.

Seduction Surrender, Private Life, Libretango, La Vie En Rose, My Jamaican Guy.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 18, 2016 6:34 AM |
Walking in the Rain is my fave.
Somehow, it didn't make OP's list.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 18, 2016 7:24 AM |
Pull Up to the Bumper of course.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 18, 2016 8:12 AM |
Saw her in 2002 where she was almost an hour late but blew us all away. Love all her albums and remixes, some very weird and funky stuff there, I love the Sly & Robbie tracks, the whole Private Life and Nightclubbing albums and the Compass Point collection, and the later stuff, great videos too. "I'm Not Perfect But I'm Perfect for You"!

[quote]She had Dolph Lundgren in his prime.
Who didn't? All five minutes of that "prime" time.
How did you enjoy my performance in "Showdown in Little Tokyo"?

Grace visits Pee-Wee's Playhouse and sings "Little Drummer Boy" The best Playhouse guest ever!

Somebody had to make a new thread covering ALL of this old info!
